This manuscript introduces BITTSy, the Behavioral Infant & Toddler Testing System. This software system is capable of running the headturn preference procedure, preferential looking, conditioned headturn, and visual fixation/habituation procedures. It uses only commercial-off-theshelf (COTS) hardware to implement the procedures in an affordable and space-efficient setup. The software package, example protocols and data sets, and manual are freely available and downloadable from go.umd.edu/BITTSy, making this entire set of procedures available to resource-limited labs. Researchers can easily use BITTSy at multiple sites in a uniform manner, resulting in a standardized, powerful research tool that can enhance cross-site research collaborations.

Since 2007, the Oncofertility Consortium Annual Conference has brought together a diverse network of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and professional levels to disseminate emerging basic and clinical research findings in fertility preservation. This network also developed enduring educational materials to accelerate the pace and quality of field-wide scientific communication. Between 2007 and 2019, the Oncofertility Consortium Annual Conference was held as an in-person event in Chicago, IL. The conference attracted approximately 250 attendees each year representing 20 countries around the world. In 2020, however, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted this paradigm and precluded an in-person meeting. Nevertheless, there remained an undeniable demand for the oncofertility community to convene. To maintain the momentum of the field, the Oncofertility Consortium hosted a day-long virtual meeting on March 5, 2021, with the theme of "Oncofertility Around the Globe" to highlight the diversity of clinical care and translational research that is ongoing around the world in this discipline. This virtual meeting was hosted using the vFairs ® conference platform and allowed over 700 people to participate, many of whom were first-time conference attendees. The agenda featured concurrent sessions from presenters in six continents which provided attendees a complete overview of the field and furthered our mission to create a global community of oncofertility practice. This paper provides a synopsis of talks delivered at this event and highlights the new advances and frontiers in the fields of oncofertility and fertility preservation around the globe from clinical practice and patient-centered efforts to translational research.

Despite advances in diagnostic imaging, a specific pathoanatomical source of low back pain can remain elusive in up to 85% of individuals. Best practice guidelines recommend that clinicians conduct a focused physical examination to help to identify patients with non-specific low back pain and an evidence-based course of clinical management. The use of sensitive and specific clinical methods to assess the lumbar spine, sacroiliac and hip joints is critical for effective physical examination. Psychosocial factors also play an important role in the evaluation of individuals with low back pain, but are not included in this narrative review of physical examination methods. Physical examination of the lumbar spine, sacroiliac and hip joints is presented, organized around patient position for efficient and effective clinical assessment. An exploratory study was undertaken to demonstrate the potential for using a fluidized bed riser system for the dry separation of fine particles. The experimental system consisted of a constant-diameter riser, two different operational heights, optional internal rings and one specific test mixture. Good separation efficiencies were obtained with a modest mass flux through the system. Further research is required to optimize the separation process and bring the concept to commercial viability.

Although pulse combustion has been successfully utilized in various commercial applications, one potential application yet to reach the market is the pressure gain gas turbine (PGGT). A PGGT would incorporate a pulse combustor rather than the typical steady-flow combustor to increase system efficiency and decrease pollutant emissions. The distinctive advantage of pulse combustion is its ability to achieve a stagnation pressure gain from inlet to exit. A primary concern with pressure gain combustion development, however, is the lack of understanding as to how a combustor should be designed to achieve a pressure gain. While significant progress has been made in understanding the fundamental controlling physics of pulse combustor operation, little research has been aimed at understanding and predicting whether a given system will produce pressure gain. The following paper proposes a simple framework which helps to explain how a pulse combustor achieves a stagnation pressure gain from inlet to exit. The premise behind the framework is that pressure gain can be achieved by closely approximating a constant volume combustion process, and a constant volume combustion process is closely approximated by matching the resonant and operating frequencies of the system. The framework is primarily based upon results from a one-dimensional method-of-characteristics model.

An experimental system was constructed and used to obtain data necessary for the evaluation and improvement of a mathematical model for a crossflow coal gasification system. These experimental data were consistent with those of similar gasification processes. The evaluation of the mathematical model indicated the proper trends in the crossflow gasification process; however, the predictions from the model and the data were not at the desired level of agreement. Employing a sensitivity analysis, appropriate correction factors to the heat transfer and chemical kinetics correlations were determined. The addition of these correction factors was necessary to account for the variation in the reactivity of the feedstock. These correction factors were found to produce heat transfer and chemical kinetics expressions which are within the scatter of currently accepted experimental data for these quantities. A 56 year old, right handed African-American man with past history of left knee osteoarthritis, remote intravenous drug use, remote alcoholism, and seropositivity for hepatitis C was admitted to a local hospital for fatigue, chest pain, 13.6 kg weight loss, night sweats, and vision loss. On examination, a loud systolic murmur was present. An electrocardiogram (ECG) displayed T wave alternans and a transoesophageal echocardiogram revealed severe mitral regurgitation with mitral valve vegetations, ruptured chordae tendineae, and left ventricular ejection fraction of 75%. He was diagnosed as having endocarditis and cytomegalovirus endophthalmitis, and was treated with ceftriaxone, vancomycin, ganciclovir, foscarnet, aspirin, metoprolol, lisinopril, nifedipine, and intravenous esmolol. He developed fever (39.3°C) and his mental status declined. A head computed tomography (CT) scan showed left occipital haemorrhage. His left leg became cold and pale with an ankle:brachial index of 0.4. Blood cultures grew yeast. Amphotericin B was started and he was transferred to our hospital for further care. Upon arrival his temperature was 36.4°C, pulse was 80 beats per minute and regular, respiratory rate was 25 per minute, and blood pressure was 106/76 mm Hg on the right and 160/83 mm Hg on the left. Although a number of innovative vocational rehabilitation (VR) demonstration projects have been completed with MS populations, there remains a lack of clarity as to a profile of these VR participants. An effort is made in this article to carefully describe the demographic and occupational characteristics of people with MS seeking vocational services at intake, as well as their self-perceived psychosocial functioning across a range of pertinent measures. The issue of "program dropouts" in VR services for people with MS is also addressed. Implications for better understanding participants with MS within the VR process and improved nuances in service delivery are then discussed.

Allegations of child sexual abuse naturally raise the ire of the populace at large, as well as the fears and apprehensions of those who may be falsely accused as perpetrators. Within this emotionally charged and litigious climate, the memory functions of children have become a matter of acute interest for those professionals involved in the ensuing investigations and legal proceedings. This is especially true, given that the child witness, approaching a court of law, is likely to encounter numerous circumstances that will invite memory distortion. These circumstances include interviews by concerned adults and protective service workers, as well as cross-examination by a defense attorney. Well-intentioned efforts may be replete with leading questions or subtle inferences that may distort episodic memory. The present paper will discuss developmental aspects of long-term memory functions in children, events, and cognitive processes that may contribute to memory distortion, and recommendations for improving procedures related to the investigations of alleged child sexual abuse.

The performance of high-temperature slagging coal-utilization systems depend on the collection of coal ash on the reactor surfaces and the flow of the slag out of the reactor through a slag-tap hole. In order to develop an analytical model for flow of the slag on a reactor wall, existing data for slag viscosity were reviewed in light of new emerging-process conditions. A Bingham model was selected for viscosity and the flow characteristics along a reactor wall are developed.

Numbers of predatory insects (lady beetles, primarily Hippodamia spp.; green lacewings, Chrysopa spp.; nabids, Nobis spp.; soft-winged flower beetles, Collops spp.; hooded beetles, Notoxus monodon F.; big-eyed bugs, Georcoris spp.), spiders (unidentified), and fleahoppers, Pseudatomoscelis seriatus (Reuter) were determined weekly in cotton grown under 3 insect control schemes. Numbers of fruits damaged by the Heliothis complex (the bollworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), and the tobacco budworm, H. virescens F.) and by the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis Boheman were also determined. The 3 control schemes used were (1) strip-planted with grain sorghum, (2) solid-planted, insecticide treatments according to OSU Agriculture Extension Service recommendations, and (3) solid-planted, no insecticide treatments. Significantly greater numbers of predators occurred in the strip-planted plots. Overall differences in fleahopper numbers and fruit damage by the Heliothis complex were insignificant. Damage by the boll weevil was negligible. Yield per acre in the stripplanted test was higher at P=0.10 than in either of the other tests. In addition, an avg. 5308 lbs/acre of grain sorghum was produced in the strip planted plots.

Calcium homeostasis is described in terms of controlled, disturbing, and controlling signals. Plasma calcium concentration [( Ca]p) and bone calcium mass (Mb) are the two main controlled signals. Disturbing signals include calcium intake (Vi) and clearance of plasma calcium to feces ( Clf ), bone (Clo+), placenta (Clp), and milk ( Clm ). Clo+ is a disturbing signal for [Ca]p and a controlling signal for Mb. Homeostasis is maintained by input control. Fractional renal calcium reabsorption (alpha r) decreases when calcium entry into plasma is excessive, but usually calcium entry rate (VT) responds effectively to small changes in [Ca]p associated with changes in disturbing signals. With increases in Vi, both fractional calcium absorption (alpha d) and fraction of bone calcium removed (lambda b) decrease to maintain VT at an appropriate level. As Clo+ declines with advancing age, [Ca]p rises slightly but VT decreases: a 1% change in [Ca]p would lead to a 13% change in VT. In heavily lactating cows, this response of VT may be enhanced. Parturient hypocalcemia may be the result of delayed negative feedback responses of lambda b (1 wk) and alpha d (1 day). Positive feedback between [Ca]p and gut motility may lead to transient suppression of VT during hypocalcemia, despite high plasma parathyroid hormone and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 concentrations. Parturient paresis is an example of a disordered accelerative response in a complex control system amenable to a variety of physiologically rational management procedures.

PARAESOPHAGEAL hiatus hernia is a congenital defect that is usually found only in adults. Its incidence in general is fairly low, while in infants or the newborn it is extremely low. The paradox of finding an adult type of diaphragmatic hernia in a newborn infant is unique. We are reporting such a case. REPORT OF A CASE I. S., a full-term white girl, was born on Dec. 8, 1951. She appeared normal at birth, but later, when feedings were begun, regurgitation with slight cyanosis was noticed at every attempt to swallow. Physical examination revealed good ventilation of both lungs. The heart tones were clear, and the abdomen was soft.
