Abstract

Objetivos: Descrever um caso de Leucemia Mieloide Crônica (LMC) que apresentou hepatite por Imatinibe e discutir a monitorização e conduta terapêutica. M aterial e métodos: Relato do caso de um paciente com LMC em fase crônica que desenvolveu hepatotoxicidade pelo Imatinibe, com recidiva após reintrodução do medicamento com dose reduzida. Análise do prontuário e pesquisa sobre o tema na base científica EMBASE. Resultados: Homem, 52 anos, sem comorbidades, assintomático, diagnosticado com LMC em fevereiro 2022, Sokal baixo risco, foi tratado com Hidroxiureia até junho, quando iniciou inibidor de tirosina quinase (TKI) Imatinibe 400 mg/dia. O hemograma mostrava anemia discreta e exames bioquímicos normais. Evoluiu com câimbras, artralgias e náuseas, que foram controlados. Em dezembro relatou piora das náuseas. Estava corado, anictérico e afebril e não apresentava adenomegalias ou hepatoesplenomegalia. Os exames mostraram hemograma normal, com provas de função hepática alteradas: TGO 109U/L, TGP 328U/L, GamaGT 37U/L, bilirrubinas normais. O Imatinibe foi suspenso e após ser afastada a possibilidade de hepatites virais, foi prescrita Prednisona 20 mg/dia. A resposta molecular não chegou a ser avaliada. A Ultra-sonografia abdominal mostrou esteatose hepática. O paciente negou uso de bebida alcoólica ou de outro medicamento, exceto bromoprida e permaneceu assintomático, em remissão hematológica até junho de 2023 quando, já com a função hepática normal, reiniciou Imatinibe na dose de 300 mg/dia. Após 45 dias foram observadas elevação das transaminases, com TGP mais de 20 vezes acima do normal: TGO 362U/L, TGP 841U/L, GamaGT 84U/L, Bilirrubinas normais. O Imatinibe foi suspenso novamente e foi reiniciada a Prednisona. Discussão: O Imatinibe foi a primeira droga da classe dos TKI, para o tratamento da LMC, capaz de bloquear o produto do gen de fusão BCR-ABL e sua ação oncogênica, mudando a história natural da doença. A medicação, de uso contínuo, causa diversos efeitos colaterais, como a hepatotoxicidade, que costuma ser assintomática, transitória e geralmente observada no primeiro ano de tratamento, entretanto há relatos de casos graves com falência hepática e morte. Quando ocorre toxicidade pelo uso do Imatinibe é necessário monitorar a função hepática e afastar outras causas como interações medicamentosas que elevam o nível sérico de medicamentos, a exemplo do Paracetamol, abuso de álcool e reativação da hepatite B. A decisão de reiniciar o Imatinibe ou de trocar por um TKI de nova geração é uma questão difícil e pouco discutida na literatura. Uma meta-análise recente indicou que Nilotinibe, Ponatinibe e Bosutinibe estão associados com risco mais alto que o Imatinibe de causar lesão hepática, ao contrário do Dasatinibe. A escolha do TKI de segunda linha dependerá não só do potencial de hepatotoxicidade da droga, mas do perfil de efeitos adversos esperados, das comorbidades dos pacientes, da existência de mutações do BCR-ABL e da resposta molecular alcançada. Conclusão: Não há consenso na conduta a ser adotada nos casos de hepatotoxicidade grave aos TKI e estratégias de monitorização da função hepática, descontinuação da medicação, redução da dose, tratamento com corticosteroides e/ou troca para TKI de segunda ou terceira geração devem ser individualizadas.

Abstract

We report the discovery of GRB 221009A, the highest flux gamma-ray burst (GRB) ever observed by the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (Fermi-GBM). This GRB has continuous prompt emission lasting more than 600 s, which smoothly transitions to afterglow emission visible in the Fermi-GBM energy range (8 keV–40 MeV), and total energetics higher than any other burst in the Fermi-GBM sample. By using a variety of new and existing analysis techniques we probe the spectral and temporal evolution of GRB 221009A. We find no emission prior to the Fermi-GBM trigger time ( t _0 ; 2022 October 9 at 13:16:59.99 UTC), indicating that this is the time of prompt emission onset. The triggering pulse exhibits distinct spectral and temporal properties suggestive of the thermal, photospheric emission of shock breakout, with significant emission up to ∼15 MeV. We characterize the onset of external shock at t _0 + 600 s and find evidence of a plateau region in the early-afterglow phase, which transitions to a slope consistent with Swift-XRT afterglow measurements. We place the total energetics of GRB 221009A in context with the rest of the Fermi-GBM sample and find that this GRB has the highest total isotropic-equivalent energy ( E _γ _,iso = 1.0 × 10 ^55 erg) and second highest isotropic-equivalent luminosity ( L _γ _,iso = 9.9 × 10 ^53 erg s ^–1 ) based on its redshift of z = 0.151. These extreme energetics are what allowed us to observe the continuously emitting central engine of Fermi-GBM from the beginning of the prompt emission phase through the onset of early afterglow.

Abstract

We present 294 pulsars found in GeV data from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Another 33 millisecond pulsars (MSPs) discovered in deep radio searches of LAT sources will likely reveal pulsations once phase-connected rotation ephemerides are achieved. A further dozen optical and/or X-ray binary systems colocated with LAT sources also likely harbor gamma-ray MSPs. This catalog thus reports roughly 340 gamma-ray pulsars and candidates, 10% of all known pulsars, compared to ≤11 known before Fermi. Half of the gamma-ray pulsars are young. Of these, the half that are undetected in radio have a broader Galactic latitude distribution than the young radio-loud pulsars. The others are MSPs, with six undetected in radio. Overall, ≥236 are bright enough above 50 MeV to fit the pulse profile, the energy spectrum, or both. For the common two-peaked profiles, the gamma-ray peak closest to the magnetic pole crossing generally has a softer spectrum. The spectral energy distributions tend to narrow as the spindown power $\dot{E}$ decreases to its observed minimum near 10 ^33 erg s ^−1 , approaching the shape for synchrotron radiation from monoenergetic electrons. We calculate gamma-ray luminosities when distances are available. Our all-sky gamma-ray sensitivity map is useful for population syntheses. The electronic catalog version provides gamma-ray pulsar ephemerides, properties, and fit results to guide and be compared with modeling results.

Abstract

The Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) lightcurve repository (LCR) is a publicly available, continually updated library of gamma-ray lightcurves of variable Fermi-LAT sources generated over multiple timescales. The Fermi-LAT LCR aims to provide publication-quality lightcurves binned on timescales of 3, 7, and 30 days for 1525 sources deemed variable in the source catalog of the first 10 yr of Fermi-LAT observations. The repository consists of lightcurves generated through full likelihood analyses that model the sources and the surrounding region, providing fluxes and photon indices for each time bin. The LCR is intended as a resource for the time-domain and multimessenger communities by allowing users to search LAT data quickly to identify correlated variability and flaring emission episodes from gamma-ray sources. We describe the sample selection and analysis employed by the LCR and provide an overview of the associated data access portal.

Abstract

We measured separate cosmic-ray electron and positron spectra with the Fermi Large Area Telescope. Because the instrument does not have an onboard magnet, we distinguish the two species by exploiting the Earth's shadow, which is offset in opposite directions for opposite charges due to the Earth's magnetic field. We estimate and subtract the cosmic-ray proton background using two different methods that produce consistent results. We report the electron-only spectrum, the positron-only spectrum, and the positron fraction between 20 GeV and 200 GeV. We confirm that the fraction rises with energy in the 20-100 GeV range. The three new spectral points between 100 and 200 GeV are consistent with a fraction that is continuing to rise with energy., Comment: 5 figures, 1 table, revtex 4.1, updated to match PRL published version

Abstract

The fourth catalog of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope Large Area Telescope (4LAC) between 2008 August 4 and 2016 August 2 contains $2863$ objects located at high Galactic latitudes (| b| > 10^9). It includes 85% more sources than the previous 3LAC catalog based on 4 yr of data. AGNs represent at least 79% of the high-latitude sources in the fourth Fermi-Large Area Telescope Source Catalog (4FGL), which covers the energy range from 50 MeV to 1 TeV. In addition, 344 gamma-ray AGNs are found at low Galactic latitudes. Most of the 4LAC AGNs are blazars (98%), while the remainder are other types of AGNs. The blazar population consists of 24% Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs), 38% BL Lac-type objects, and 38% blazar candidates of unknown types (BCUs). On average, FSRQs display softer spectra and stronger variability in the gamma-ray band than BL Lacs do, confirming previous findings. All AGNs detected by ground-based atmospheric Cerenkov telescopes are also found in the 4LAC.

Abstract

We present the fourth Fermi Large Area Telescope catalog (4FGL) of gamma-ray sources. Based on the first eight years of science data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope mission in the energy range from 50 MeV to 1 TeV, it is the deepest yet in this energy range. Relative to the 3FGL catalog, the 4FGL catalog has twice as much exposure as well as a number of analysis improvements, including an updated model for the Galactic diffuse gamma-ray emission, and two sets of light curves (one-year and two-month intervals). The 4FGL catalog includes 5064 sources above 4 sigma significance, for which we provide localization and spectral properties. Seventy-five sources are modeled explicitly as spatially extended, and overall, 358 sources are considered as identified based on angular extent, periodicity, or correlated variability observed at other wavelengths. For 1336 sources, we have not found plausible counterparts at other wavelengths. More than 3130 of the identified or associated sources are active galaxies of the blazar class, and 239 are pulsars.

Abstract

We report on the observations of gamma-ray burst (GRB) 190114C by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. The prompt gamma-ray emission was detected by the Fermi GRB Monitor (GBM), the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), and the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) and the long-lived afterglow emission was subsequently observed by the GBM, LAT, Swift X-ray Telescope (XRT), and Swift UV Optical Telescope. The early-time observations reveal multiple emission components that evolve independently, with a delayed power-law component that exhibits significant spectral attenuation above 40 MeV in the first few seconds of the burst. This power-law component transitions to a harder spectrum that is consistent with the afterglow emission observed by the XRT at later times. This afterglow component is clearly identifiable in the GBM and BAT light curves as a slowly fading emission component on which the rest of the prompt emission is superimposed. As a result, we are able to observe the transition from internal-shock- to external-shock-dominated emission. We find that the temporal and spectral evolution of the broadband afterglow emission can be well modeled as synchrotron emission from a forward shock propagating into a wind-like circumstellar environment. We estimate the initial bulk Lorentz factor using the observed high-energy spectral cutoff. Considering the onset of the afterglow component, we constrain the deceleration radius at which this forward shock begins to radiate in order to estimate the maximum synchrotron energy as a function of time. We find that even in the LAT energy range, there exist high-energy photons that are in tension with the theoretical maximum energy that can be achieved through synchrotron emission from a shock. These violations of the maximum synchrotron energy are further compounded by the detection of very high-energy (VHE) emission above 300 GeV by MAGIC concurrent with our observations. We conclude that the observations of VHE photons from GRB 190114C necessitates either an additional emission mechanism at very high energies that is hidden in the synchrotron component in the LAT energy range, an acceleration mechanism that imparts energy to the particles at a rate that is faster than the electron synchrotron energy-loss rate, or revisions of the fundamental assumptions used in estimating the maximum photon energy attainable through the synchrotron process.

The Fermi-LAT LCR aims to provide publication-quality lightcurves binned on timescales of 3, 7, and 30 days for 1525 sources deemed variable in the source catalog of the first 10 yr of Fermi-LAT observations. The repository consists of lightcurves generated through full likelihood analyses that model the sources and the surrounding region, providing fluxes and photon indices for each time bin. The LCR is intended as a resource for the time-domain and multimessenger communities by allowing users to search LAT data quickly to identify correlated variability and flaring emission episodes from gamma-ray sources. We describe the sample selection and analysis employed by the LCR and provide an overview of the associated data access portal, M.N. and J.V. acknowledge that the material is based upon work supported by NASA under award number 80GSFC21M0002. Abstract

A deep survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud at ~0.1-100TeV photon energies with the Cherenkov Telescope Array is planned. We assess the detection prospects based on a model for the emission of the galaxy, comprising the four known TeV emitters, mock populations of sources, and interstellar emission on galactic scales. We also assess the detectability of 30 Doradus and SN 1987A, and the constraints that can be derived on the nature of dark matter. The survey will allow for fine spectral studies of N157B, N132D, LMC P3, and 30 Doradus C, and half a dozen other sources should be revealed, mainly pulsar-powered objects. The remnant from SN 1987A could be detected if it produces cosmic-ray nuclei with a flat power-law spectrum at high energies, or with a steeper index 2.3-2.4 pending a flux increase by a factor >3-4 over ~2015-2035. Large-scale interstellar emission remains mostly out of reach of the survey if its >10GeV spectrum has a soft photon index ~2.7, but degree-scale 0.1-10TeV pion-decay emission could be detected if the cosmic-ray spectrum hardens above >100GeV. The 30 Doradus star-forming region is detectable if acceleration efficiency is on the order of 1-10% of the mechanical luminosity and diffusion is suppressed by two orders of magnitude within, Accepted for publication in MNRAS. Abstract

The HAWC Collaboration released the 2HWC catalogue of TeV sources, in which 19 show no association with any known high-energy (HE; E ≳ 10 GeV) or very-high-energy (VHE; E ≳ 300 GeV) sources. This catalogue motivated follow-up studies by both the Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) and Fermi-LAT (Large Area Telescope) observatories with the aim of investigating gamma-ray emission over a broad energy band. In this paper, we report the results from the first joint work between High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC), MAGIC, and Fermi-LAT on three unassociated HAWC sources: 2HWC J2006+341, 2HWC J1907+084*, and 2HWC J1852+013*. Although no significant detection was found in the HE and VHE regimes, this investigation shows that a minimum 1° extension (at 95 per cent confidence level) and harder spectrum in the GeV than the one extrapolated from HAWC results are required in the case of 2HWC J1852+013*, whilst a simply minimum extension of 0.16° (at 95 per cent confidence level) can already explain the scenario proposed by HAWC for the remaining sources. Moreover, the hypothesis that these sources are pulsar wind nebulae is also investigated in detail.

Abstract

We use joint observations by the Neil Gehrels Swift X-ray Telescope (XRT) and the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) of gamma-ray burst (GRB) afterglows to investigate the nature of the long-lived high-energy emission observed by Fermi LAT. Joint broadband spectral modeling of XRT and LAT data reveal that LAT non-detections of bright X-ray afterglows are consistent with a cooling break in the inferred electron synchrotron spectrum below the LAT and/or XRT energy ranges. Such a break is sufficient to suppress the high-energy emission so as to be below the LAT detection threshold. By contrast, LAT-detected bursts are best fit by a synchrotron spectrum with a cooling break that lies either between or above the XRT and LAT energy ranges. We speculate that the primary difference between GRBs with LAT afterglow detections and the non-detected population may be in the type of circumstellar environment in which these bursts occur, with late-time LAT detections preferentially selecting GRBs that occur in low wind-like circumburst density profiles. Furthermore, we find no evidence of high-energy emission in the LAT-detected population significantly in excess of the flux expected from the electron synchrotron spectrum fit to the observed X-ray emission. The lack of excess emission at high energies could be due to a shocked external medium in which the energy density in the magnetic field is stronger than or comparable to that of the relativistic electrons behind the shock, precluding the production of a dominant synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) component in the LAT energy range. Alternatively, the peak of the SSC emission could be beyond the 0.1–100 GeV energy range considered for this analysis.

Abstract

Very-high Energy (VHE) gamma-ray astroparticle physics is a relatively young field, and observations over the past decade have surprisingly revealed almost two hundred VHE emitters which appear to act as cosmic particle accelerators. These sources are an important component of the Universe, influencing the evolution of stars and galaxies. At the same time, they also act as a probe of physics in the most extreme environments known - such as in supernova explosions, and around or after the merging of black holes and neutron stars. However, the existing experiments have provided exciting glimpses, but often falling short of supplying the full answer. A deeper understanding of the TeV sky requires a significant improvement in sensitivity at TeV energies, a wider energy coverage from tens of GeV to hundreds of TeV and a much better angular and energy resolution with respect to the currently running facilities. The next generation gamma-ray observatory, the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), is the answer to this need. In this talk I will present this upcoming observatory from its design to the construction, and its potential science exploitation. CTAO will allow the entire astronomical community to explore a new discovery space that will likely lead to paradigm-changing breakthroughs. In particular, CTA has an unprecedented sensitivity to short (sub-minute) timescale phenomena, placing it as a key instrument in the future of multi-messenger and multi-wavelength time domain astronomy. Abstract

RESUMEN El síndrome de Edwards o síndrome de trisomía 18 es un trastorno cromosómico autosómico que se caracteriza por la presencia de un cromosoma 18 extra, con rasgos clínicos distintivos. Se presenta un caso con diagnóstico prenatal basados en la ecografía morfológica obstétrica que condujeron a la realización ecocardiografía fetal donde resalta la displasia de la válvula pulmonar con doble lesión y la comunicación interventricular. Posteriormente se realiza cordocentesis para realización del cariotipo y asesoramiento genético. ABSTRACT Edwards’ syndrome, or trisomy 18 syndrome, is an autosomal chromosomal disorder characterized by the presence of an extra chromosome 18, with distinctive clinical features. We present a case with a prenatal diagnosis based on obstetrical morphological ultrasound that led to the performance of a fetal echocardiography with findings of a pulmonary valve dysplasia with double injury and interventricular communication. Subsequently, cordocentesis is performed for karyotyping and genetic counseling.

24. Postsurgical Paracicatricial Cutaneous Satellitosis of Giant Cell Tumour of the Tendon Sheath, Localized Type

Abstract

Tenosynovial giant cell tumour (localized type) is a tumour of tendon sheaths and interphalangeal joints, affecting the digits and arising from the synovium. It is characterized by a proliferation of mononuclear cells and osteoclast-like polykaryocytes. Its propagation to the skin is an exceptional event, which can take place either in localized form in the fingertips (localized type) or in the rare diffuse form called giant cell tumour of the tendon sheath (diffuse type). We report here a case of giant cell tumour with cutaneous satellites, which appeared close to and around the surgical scar following the excision of the primary lesion, in a 9-year-old boy. In the cutaneous satellites, a few signs of transformation could be observed, consisting of the lack of stroma and pronounced cellularity characterized by sheets of rounded synovial-like cells admixed with multinucleated giant cells and xanthoma cells. No relapse was observed 1 year after a plastic surgery procedure (complete replacement of the involved skin). Diffuse lesions usually represent a diagnostic problem in comparison with their localized counterparts. The malignant transformation of an originally typical tenosynovial giant cell tumour is a rare but well-documented event. Our case seems to represent a typical example because the pronounced cellularity might wrongly lead to a diagnosis of malignancy.

Abstract

Since 2012 August Voyager 1 has been observing the local interstellar energy spectra of Galactic cosmic-ray nuclei down to 3 MeV nuc(−1) and electrons down to 2.7 MeV. The H and He spectra have the same energy dependence between 3 and 346 MeV nuc(−1), with a broad maximum in the 10–50 MeV nuc(−1) range and a H/He ratio of 12.2 ± 0.9. The peak H intensity is ~15 times that observed at 1 AU, and the observed local interstellar gradient of 3–346 MeV H is −0.009 ± 0.055% AU(−1), consistent with models having no local interstellar gradient. The energy spectrum of electrons (e(−) + e(+)) with 2.7–74 MeV is consistent with E(−1.30±0.05) and exceeds the H intensity at energies below ~50 MeV. Propagation model fits to the observed spectra indicate that the energy density of cosmic-ray nuclei with >3 MeV nuc(−1) and electrons with >3 MeV is 0.83–1.02 eV cm(−3) and the ionization rate of atomic H is in the range of 1.51–1.64 × 10(−17) s(−1). This rate is a factor >10 lower than the ionization rate in diffuse interstellar clouds, suggesting significant spatial inhomogeneity in low-energy cosmic rays or the presence of a suprathermal tail on the energy spectrum at much lower energies. The propagation model fits also provide improved estimates of the elemental abundances in the source of Galactic cosmic rays.

Abstract

Purpose: to study the possible association of CT-derived quantitative Epicardial Adipose Tissue (EAT) and glycemia at the admission, with severe outcomes in patients with COVID-19.Methods: 229 patients consecutively hospitalized for COVID-19 from March 1st to June 30th2020 were studied.Non contrast chest CT scans, to confirm diagnosis of pneumonia, were performed. EAT volume (cm3) and attenuation (Hounsfield units) were measured using a CT post-processing software. The primary outcome was acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or in-hospital death.Results: The primary outcome occurred in 56,8% patients. Fasting blood glucose was significantly higher in the group ARDS/death than in the group with better prognosis [114 (98-144) vs 101 (91-118) mg/dl, p=0,001]. EAT volume was higher in patients with vs without the primary outcome [103 (69,25;129,75) vs 78,95 (50,7;100,25) cm3, p Conclusions: Our findings suggest that both blood glucose and EAT, measurable and modifiable targets, could allow the early identification of subjects at greater risk of developing severe complications.

Abstract

The Large Area Telescope (LAT), the primary instrument for the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi) mission, is an imaging, wide field-of-view, high-energy gamma-ray telescope, covering the energy range from 30 MeV to more than 300 GeV. We describe the performance of the instrument at the 10-year milestone. LAT performance remains well within the specifications defined during the planning phase, validating the design choices and supporting the compelling case to extend the duration of the Fermi mission. The details provided here will be useful when designing the next generation of high-energy gamma-ray observatories., 60 pages, 28 figures. Published in ApJS

Abstract

In studying the interstellar medium (ISM) and Galactic cosmic rays (CRs), uncertainty of the interstellar gas density has always been an issue. To overcome this difficulty, we used a component decomposition of the 21-cm HI line emission and used the resulting gas maps in an analysis of $\gamma$-ray data obtained by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) for the MBM~53, 54, and 55 molecular clouds and the Pegasus loop. We decomposed the ISM gas into intermediate-velocity clouds, narrow-line and optically thick HI, broad-line and optically thin HI, CO-bright H2, and CO-dark H2 using detailed correlations with the HI line profiles from the HI4PI survey, the Planck dust-emission model, and the Fermi-LAT $\gamma$-ray data. We found the fractions of optical depth correction to the HI column density and CO-dark H2 to be nearly equal. We fitted the CR spectra directly measured at/near the Earth and the measured $\gamma$-ray emissivity spectrum simultaneously. We obtained a spectral break in the interstellar proton spectrum at ${\sim}$7~GeV, and found the $\gamma$-ray emissivity normalization agrees with the AMS-02 proton spectrum within 10\%, relaxing the tension with the CR spectra previously claimed., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ

Abstract

We present the first Fermi - Large Area Telescope (LAT) solar flare catalog covering the 24 th solar cycle. This catalog contains 45 Fermi -LAT solar flares (FLSFs) with emission in the gamma-ray energy band (30 MeV - 10 GeV) detected with a significance greater than 5 sigma over the years 2010-2018. A subsample containing 37 of these flares exhibit delayed emission beyond the prompt-impulsive hard X-ray phase with 21 flares showing delayed emission lasting more than two hours. No prompt-impulsive emission is detected in four of these flares. We also present in this catalog the observations of GeV emission from 3 flares originating from Active Regions located behind the limb (BTL) of the visible solar disk. We report the light curves, spectra, best proton index and localization (when possible) for all the FLSFs. The gamma-ray spectra is consistent with the decay of pions produced by >300 MeV protons. This work contains the largest sample of high-energy gamma-ray flares ever reported and provides the unique opportunity to perform population studies on the different phases of the flare and thus allowing to open a new window in solar physics.

Abstract

Massive black holes at the centers of galaxies can launch powerful wide-angle winds that, if sustained over time, can unbind the gas from the stellar bulges of galaxies. These winds may be responsible for the observed scaling relation between the masses of the central black holes and the velocity dispersion of stars in galactic bulges. Propagating through the galaxy, the wind should interact with the interstellar medium creating a strong shock, similar to those observed in supernovae explosions, which is able to accelerate charged particles to high energies. In this work we use data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope to search for the γ-ray emission from galaxies with an ultrafast outflow (UFO): a fast (v ∼ 0.1 c), highly ionized outflow, detected in absorption at hard X-rays in several nearby active galactic nuclei (AGN). Adopting a sensitive stacking analysis we are able to detect the average γ-ray emission from these galaxies and exclude that it is due to processes other than UFOs. Moreover, our analysis shows that the γ-ray luminosity scales with the AGN bolometric luminosity and that these outflows transfer ∼0.04% of their mechanical power to γ-rays. Interpreting the observed γ-ray emission as produced by cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated at the shock front, we find that the γ-ray emission may attest to the onset of the wind-host interaction and that these outflows can energize charged particles up to the transition region between galactic and extragalactic CRs., Ajello, M., et al., M.A. and C.K. acknowledge support from NSF and NASA through grants AST-1715256, 80NSSC21K1915, and 80NSSC18K1718. A.; Zech, A.; Zechlin, H.; Zhdanov, V., I; Zivec, M., The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA), the new-generation ground-based observatory for γ astronomy, provides unique capabilities to address significant open questions in astrophysics, cosmology, and fundamental physics. We study some of the salient areas of γ cosmology that can be explored as part of the Key Science Projects of CTA, through simulated observations of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and of their relativistic jets. Observations of AGN with CTA will enable a measurement of γ absorption on the extragalactic background light with a statistical uncertainty below 15% up to a redshift z=2 and to constrain or detect γ halos up to intergalactic-magnetic-field strengths of at least 0.3 pG . Extragalactic observations with CTA also show promising potential to probe physics beyond the Standard Model. The best limits on Lorentz invariance violation from γ astronomy will be improved by a factor of at least two to three. Abstract

O projeto proposto visa mostrar aos alunos de ensino medio, da rede publica de Campinas, algumas das pesquisas realizadas pelo INCT-Bioanalitica e orientar os estudantes no desenvolvimento de mini projetos inseridos nas diferentes linhas de pesquisa dos professores envolvidos. Alem disso, incentivar os alunos a investigar os assuntos propostos, de tal forma que aprendam na pratica diversos conceitos quimicos e que as experiencias revelem o ambiente da universidade e da pesquisa. Esse trabalho apresenta alguns dos experimentos conduzidos, em particular, procedimentos de escala de pH, formacao de espelho de prata e eletroforese capilar de vitaminas.

Abstract

The fourth catalog of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope Large Area Telescope (4LAC) between 2008 August 4 and 2016 August 2 contains 2863 objects located at high Galactic latitudes (|b| > 10°). It includes 85% more sources than the previous 3LAC catalog based on 4 yr of data. AGNs represent at least 79% of the high-latitude sources in the fourth Fermi-Large Area Telescope Source Catalog (4FGL), which covers the energy range from 50 MeV to 1 TeV. In addition, 344 gamma-ray AGNs are found at low Galactic latitudes. Most of the 4LAC AGNs are blazars (98%), while the remainder are other types of AGNs. The blazar population consists of 24% Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs), 38% BL Lac-type objects, and 38% blazar candidates of unknown types (BCUs). On average, FSRQs display softer spectra and stronger variability in the gamma-ray band than BLQLacs do, confirming previous findings. Abstract

La susceptibilidad magnética (SM) es una propiedad que determina el grado de magnetización de un material de acuerdo con su composición, dado su potencial en el diagnóstico de suelos agrícolas. Con el objetivo de evaluar la aplicabilidad de este atributo en el análisis físico de suelos, se determinó su correlación con algunas propiedades físicas en suelos del Valle del Cauca. Se realizaron muestreos en dos lotes de caña de azúcar (Chondular y Santa Rosa), de 55 y 98 hectáreas, respectivamente. Los datos se analizaron por estadísticos descriptivos, así como por matriz de correlación espacial y Pearson entre SM y las propiedades físicas del suelo, a través de un software de sistemas de información geográfica. Abstract

Chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods are alternatives to increase oil production in mature reservoirs. However, the presence of EOR chemicals in the produced water may impact the separation of gas-water systems in oil platforms. The present work aims to evaluate the impact of polymers, surfactants, inorganic salts, and their interactions on gas holdup in a 32.1-cm-diameter semi-batch bubble column over a range of superficial gas velocities ranging from 0 to 19 cm/s. It has been confirmed through physical-chemical analysis that synthetic produced water containing salts, polymers and organic surfactants is non-Newtonian with low surface tension. Results have shown that both salt and surfactants increase gas holdup regardless of superficial gas velocity, while the effect of polymers depends on superficial gas velocity. This work also innovates by showing how interactions between EOR chemicals and salinity affect transition gas holdup and superficial gas velocity between different flow regimes. Overall results shed some light on how the chemical composition of EOR effluents affect gas holdup and flow regime as a function of a wide range of superficial gas velocities and therefore contributes to the development of gas-liquid systems.
