Water bodies are highly pollution-prone areas in which mercury (Hg) is considered as a major menace to aquatic organisms. However, the information about the toxicity of mercuric chloride (HgCl2) in a vital organ such as the liver of fish is still inadequate. This study aimed to assess the impact of mercuric chloride (HgCl2) exposure on the liver of Channa punctata fish over 15, 30, and 45 days, at two different concentrations (0.039 mg/L and 0.078 mg/L). Mercury is known to be a significant threat to aquatic life, and yet, information regarding its effects on fish liver remains limited. The results of this study demonstrate that exposure to HgCl2 significantly increases oxidative stress markers, such as lipid peroxidation (LPO) and protein carbonyls (PC), as well as the levels of serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) in the fish. Additionally, the transcriptional and protein analysis of specific genes and molecules associated with necroptosis and inflammation, such as ABCG2, TNF α, Caspase 3, RIPK 3, IL-1β, Caspase-1, IL-18, and RIPK1, confirm the occurrence of necroptosis and inflammation in the liver. Histopathological and ultrastructural examinations of the liver tissue further reveal a significant presence of liver steatosis. Interestingly, the upregulation of PPARα suggests that the fish's body is actively responding to counteract the effects of liver steatosis. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of oxidative stress, biochemical changes, gene expression, protein profiles, and histological findings in the liver tissue of fish exposed to mercury pollution in freshwater environments. By using a recently formulated Legendre transform approach to the thermodynamics of charged systems, we explore the general form of the screening length in the Voorn–Overbeek-type theories, which remains valid also in the cases where the entropy of the charged component(s) is not given by the ideal gas form as in the Debye–Hückel theory. The screening length consistent with the non-electrostatic terms in the free energy ansatz for the Flory–Huggins and Voorn–Overbeek type theories, derived from the local curvature properties of the Legendre transform, has distinctly different behavior than the often invoked standard Debye screening length, though it reduces to it in some special cases. We have used the density functional theory of freezing to study the liquid crystalline phase behavior of a system of highly elongated ellipsoidal conjugated oligomers dispersed in three different solvents namely chloroform, toluene and their equimolar mixture. The molecules are assumed to interact via solvent-implicit coarse-grained Gay–Berne potential. Pair correlation functions needed as input in the density functional theory have been calculated using the Percus–Yevick (PY) integral equation theory. Considering the isotropic and nematic phases, we have calculated the isotropic–nematic phase transition parameters and presented the temperature–density and pressure–temperature phase diagrams. Different solvent conditions are found not only to affect the transition parameters but also determine the capability of oligomers to form nematic phase in various thermodynamic conditions. Density functional theory (DFT) of freezing is used to study the isotropic–nematic, isotropic–smectic A and nematic–smectic A phase transitions in a system of large, semi-flexible conjugated oligomers parameterised within Gay–Berne (GB) potential. The pair correlation functions of the isotropic fluid, used as structural inputs in the DFT, are calculated by solving the Percus–Yevick integral equation theory. Large number of spherical harmonic coefficients of each orientation-dependent functions has been considered to ensure the numerical accuracy at different densities and temperatures for the system of these model GB ellipsoids having large aspect ratio (length-to-breadth ratio). We found that the system of GB ellipsoids parameterised for conjugated oligomers shows stable isotropic, nematic and smectic A phases. At low temperatures, on increasing the density, isotropic fluid makes a direct transition to smectic A phase. Nematic phase get stabilised in between the isotropic and smectic A phases on increasing the temperature. Using the transition parameter obtained through the DFT, we have plotted the temperature–density and pressure–temperature phase diagrams which are found to be qualitatively similar to the one obtained in simulations for the systems with low aspect ratio GB particles. Background & Objective: To know the student's opinion about the current tutorial classes held in department of pharmacology of HIMS Methodology: The study was conducted on 250, second professional students of HIMS attending pharmacology department. A validated questionnaire of 15 questions was prepared. Each question had 3-5 options and lastly about their suggestions and comments. Students were briefed about the study before giving them the feedback form. They were given sufficient time to fill the form and were asked not to reveal their identity for unbiased opinion. Results: 97% of students agreed that tutorial helps them in understanding the topic better. Majority of students (68%) will attend tutorial classes even if attendance is not compulsory. When asked about the environment during the tutorial, 72% of the respondents said that it is strict but interactive. Majority of students were in favour that tutorial's topic should run parallel with lecture topic and should be taken by postgraduate students only. When asked about the structure of tutorial, majority of students (52%) felt that discussing whole topic will help them most. Many students suggested that tutorials should be well planned, organized and cover difficult topics in pharmacology i.e General, ANS and CNS. Conclusion: Teaching is a novel teaching technique which enhances interest among students. With some modifications and suggestions we can enhance the effectiveness of our current tutorials.
