Abstract

Spontaneously broken symmetry in the ground state of Bi-based topological materials can lead to promising Topological superconductors, such as Cu-Bi2Se3, Sr-Bi2Se3 and Nb-Bi2Se3. In recent studies, coexistence of multiple Fermi surface features and superconductivity was found in Nb-Bi2Se3. However, the resultant mutliple Fermi surface--charge density wave has not been experimentally reported yet. In this paper, we report possible evidence of co-occurence of a charge density wave (CDW) ground state and a superconducting (SC) ground state in Nb intercalated Bi2Se3. An intercalation induced Periodic Lattice Distortion appears to help stabilize the CDW state, possibly assisting in the formation of 1D chains and rendering electronic and phonon anisotropy to this intriguing system.

Abstract

Hexagonally deformed Fermi surfaces and strong nesting, found in topological insulators (TIs) such as $Bi_2Se_3$ and $Bi_2Te_3$, have led to several predictions of the existence of Density Wave order in these systems. Recent evidence for strong Fermi surface nesting in superconducting $Cu-Bi_2Se_3$ and $Nb-Bi_2Se_3$ has further led to speculation about the importance of charge order in the context of unconventional superconductivity. Here, we report the first observation of a novel anomaly in $Bi_2Se_3$ at 140K, which may be associated with a Charge Density Wave (CDW)-like transition. This transition was identified from both structural and electronic measurements, where: a) a periodic lattice distortion at above room temperature was characterized as a diffuse charge order in $Bi_2Se_3$ between \vec{k} and \vec{k}\pm\mathrm{\Delta}\vec{k} from electron diffraction; and b) an opening of energy gap signatured with metal-to-insulator like transition at 140K was identified from resistivity vs temperature measurement. This is further corroborated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies of the spin-lattice relaxation ( $\frac{1}{T_1}$) rate of the $^{209}Bi$ nucleus, which also displays a transition at 140K associated with an opening of an energy gap of ~8meV. Additionally, we also observe another anomaly in $\frac{1}{T_1}$ near 200K, which appears to display anisotropy with the direction of the applied magnetic field., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

High pressure Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is known to uncover behavior of matter at extreme conditions. However, significant maintenance demands, space requirements and high costs of superconducting magnets render its application unfeasible for regular modern high pressure laboratories. Here, we present a table-top NMR system based on permanent Halbach magnet arrays with dimensions of 25 cm diameter and 4 cm height. At the highest field of 1013 mT, 1H-NMR spectra of Ice VII have been recorded at 25 GPa and ambient temperature. The table-top NMR system can be used together with double sided laser heating set-ups. Feasibility of high-pressure high-temperature NMR was demonstrated by collecting 1H-NMR spectra of H2O at 25 GPa and 1063(50) K. We found that the change in signal intensity in laser-heated NMR diamond anvil cell yields a convenient way for temperature measurements.

10. Emotional Intelligence of Instructors and the Quality of Their Instructional Performance

Abstract

Quality of instructional performance is the key skill needed for every teaching faculty for achieving the level of pedigree in the present educational scenario. However, the truth is that there are minimal studies to analyze the competency linking emotional intelligence to quality of instructional performance. Therefore the present attempt is to study the role of E.I. among University Instructors and analyze their quality of instructional performance. A sample of 110 Professors participated in the survey from different Universities in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain. Emotional Quotient Inventory scale was developed to measure the EQ of Instructors. Statistical technique like "t" test and ANOVA was used to find the test mean difference between two groups and more than two groups. The result revealed that emotional intelligence and self-efficacy had very significant relationship towards their work attitude followed by their performance.

Abstract

A new diamond anvil cell experimental approach has been implemented at the European x-ray Free Electron Laser, combining pulsed laser heating with MHz x-ray diffraction. Here, we use this setup to determine liquidus temperatures under extreme conditions, based on the determination of time-resolved crystallization. The focus is on a Fe-Si-O ternary system, relevant for planetary cores. This time-resolved diagnostic is complemented by a finite-element model, reproducing temporal temperature profiles measured experimentally using streaked optical pyrometry. This model calculates the temperature and strain fields by including (i) pressure and temperature dependencies of material properties, and (ii) the heat-induced thermal stress, including feedback effect on material parameter variations. Making our model more realistic, these improvements are critical as they give 7000 K temperature differences compared to previous models. Laser intensities are determined by seeking minimal deviation between measured and modeled temperatures. Combining models and streak optical pyrometry data extends temperature determination below detection limit. The presented approach can be used to infer the liquidus temperature by the appearance of SiO 2 diffraction spots. In addition, temperatures obtained by the model agree with crystallization temperatures reported for Fe–Si alloys. Our model reproduces the planetary relevant experimental conditions, providing temperature, pressure, and volume conditions. Those predictions are then used to determine liquidus temperatures at experimental timescales where chemical migration is limited. This synergy of novel time-resolved experiments and finite-element modeling pushes further the interpretation capabilities in diamond anvil cell experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Journal of synchrotron radiation 30(4), 671 - 685 (2023). doi:10.1107/S1600577523003910, An experimental platform for dynamic diamond anvil cell (dDAC) research hasbeen developed at the High Energy Density (HED) Instrument at the EuropeanX-ray Free Electron Laser (European XFEL). Advantage was taken of the highrepetition rate of the European XFEL (up to 4.5 MHz) to collect pulse-resolvedMHz X-ray diffraction data from samples as they are dynamically compressed atintermediate strain rates ( 10 3 s1), where up to 352 diffraction images can becollected from a single pulse train. The set-up employs piezo-driven dDACscapable of compressing samples in 340 ms, compatible with the maximumlength of the pulse train (550 ms). Results from rapid compression experimentson a wide range of sample systems with different X-ray scattering powers arepresented. Abstract

Food is rooted in human evolution. The form of food and the communication system both have been ever-evolving parallel with society and culture. Thus food and communication are near related to social customs and cultural practices. Due to the growing interest in gastronomy globally, food is now considered a significant source for exploring a geographical area's cultural characteristics. Like other civilizations and cultures, food and culture in India go hand in hand, which we can see in expressions of diverse Indian languages. Hindi, though a modern Indian language, however, is deeply rooted in the cultural past. Therefore, the tradition of cultural perception and social practice is active as a background of Hindi expressions. In this study, I have tried to explore Hindi food expressions' cultural aspects essential in making meaning. I have also tried to explain that, historically, how food and communication are related to each other. Without knowing the cultural message, it isn't easy to receive the meaning of an expression in totality. I believe this study will be useful for Hindi foreign language education.

Abstract

COVID pandemic is a wake-up call to encourage 'Internationalisation at Home' (IAH) by designing the existing course curriculum or introducing new courses for scaffolding the global workforce, academic advancement, and exchange of research and ideas. This paper proposes that introducing an International Literature course in Indian Higher Education (IHE) curricula would effectively internationalise IHE at home. Incorporating an International Literature course is an important prerequisite for promoting learning to live together with harmony among the world's diverse cultures and collectively find solutions to the socio-economic challenges. It is high time to re-think our roles, responsibilities, and actions at the local, national, and global levels. It is believed that the proposed course will make easy connecting with diverse cultures of the world and nurture critical thinking for the global good and hence will foster 'Internationalisation at Home'. Literature is the only cultural product knitted with the language of that cultural space that encapsulates cultural practice and reflects social perception comprehensively. Without understanding the rich cultural, social, religious, ethnic, and linguistic diversity and heritage of the world, the concept of VasudhaivaKutumbakam (the world is one family) cannot be understood in its entirety. The literature of one language alone would not suffice to cover the whole range of the world's socio-cultural diversity and heritage. Therefore, this paper investigates the scope for incorporating international literature course (translated in English or the home language) and suggests a few creative ways for linguistic and socio-cultural edification and intercultural competence.
