Conducting research among hard-to-reach populations is a difficult endeavor because some of their characteristics are known to be associated with survey nonresponse and panel attrition. In the case of the Parchemins study, which followed undocumented migrants over their process of regularization and during the first years of regularized life in Geneva, we underscore the difficulties in recruiting and keeping respondents who come from such a hard-to-reach population. Factors hindering their participation include the fear of being denounced as undocumented, missing time due to high workload, health issues, or language problems. Using unique data from the recruitment and the follow-up processes, we demonstrate that investing high resources and time is particularly beneficial to reach such a population and to reduce attrition over successive data collection waves. In addition, we present the strategies adopted to draw a convenient sample from our targeted population, which mainly relies on generating trust. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Coherently with the life course perspective that studies individual life trajectories embedded in sociohistorical changes, this chapter offers a synthesis on the long-term dynamics of vulnerabilities in old age that are associated with a deficit of reserves. In a first time, we investigate how economic, social and health reserves have been unevenly constructed across long lives. The impact of social stratification in the early stage of life, the institutionalization of the life courses and the process of accumulating (dis)advantages are confronted. In a second time, we show how the results of those life course dynamics, the unequal distribution of reserves older adults have to cope with aging, changed during the last 40 years. Undeniable progresses also resulted in new inequalities, or the accentuation of older ones. Third, challenging the classical perspectives of political economy of ageing and social gerontology, we show that depletion is not a linear process but that social inequalities and life accidents play a role. Moreover, coping mechanisms are considered since they tend to be based on reserves’ activation while preserving a level of reserves, for further ageing challenges.

This paper consists of an annotated translation of “Halid Majid el achicharrado”, written by the Argentinian Roberto Arlt. One places this short story in the author's creative project, presenting its similarities and its particularities in relation to the rest of his work. Then it seeks to understand the literarization of orality in that short story, relating it to its narrative structure and its stylistic characteristics. From this, it exposes the translator's choices, based on the classification of orality marks proposed by Britto (2012). Finally, the translator's decisions are discussed and the complete translation of the short story is provided.

Introduction: Undocumented migrants are at high risk of adverse consequences during crises because of a lack of access to essential securities and sources of support. This study aims to describe the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the health and living circumstances of precarious migrants in Switzerland and to assess whether those undergoing legal status regularization fared better than undocumented migrants. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional mixed methods study was conducted during the COVID-19 lockdown in April–May 2020. Undocumented and recently regularized migrants taking part in an ongoing cohort study were asked to respond to an online questionnaire. A subsample was selected to undergo semi-directed phone interviews. Results: Overall, 117 of the 379 (30.9%) cohort study participants responded to the questionnaire. Seventeen interviews were conducted. Migrants faced cumulative and rapidly progressive difficulties in essential life domains. As a consequence, they showed high prevalence of exposure to COVID-19, poor mental health along with frequent avoidance of health care. Moreover, the loss of working hours and the related income overlapped with frequent food and housing insecurity. Around one participant in four had experienced hunger. Despite these unmet needs, half of the participants had not sought external assistance for reasons that differ by legal status. Both groups felt that seeking assistance might represent a threat for the renewal or a future application for a residency permit. While documented migrants were less severely affected in some domains by having accumulated more reserves previously, they also frequently renounced to sources of support. Conclusions: The cumulated difficulties faced by migrants in this period of crisis and their limited search for assistance highlight the need to implement trust-building strategies to bridge the access gap to sources of support along with policies protecting them against the rapid loss of income, the risk of losing their residency permit and the exposure to multi-fold insecurities.

International audience; INTRODUCTION: Migrants without residency permit, known as undocumented, tend to live in precarious conditions and be exposed to an accumulation of adverse determinants of health. Only scarce evidence exists on the social, economic and living conditions-related factors influencing their health status and well-being. No study has assessed the impact of legal status regularisation. The Parchemins study is the first prospective, mixed-methods study aiming at measuring the impact on health and well-being of a regularisation policy on undocumented migrants in Europe.METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Parchemins study will compare self-rated health and satisfaction with life in a group of adult undocumented migrants who qualify for applying for a residency permit (intervention group) with a group of undocumented migrants who lack one or more eligibility criteria for regularisation (control group) in Geneva Canton, Switzerland. Asylum seekers are not included in this study. The total sample will include 400 participants. Data collection will consist of standardised questionnaires complemented by semidirected interviews in a subsample (n=38) of migrants qualifying for regularisation. The baseline data will be collected just before or during the regularisation, and participants will subsequently be followed up yearly for 3 years. The quantitative part will explore variables about health (ie, health status, occupational health, health-seeking behaviours, access to care, healthcare utilisation), well-being (measured by satisfaction with different dimensions of life), living conditions (ie, employment, accommodation, social support) and economic situation (income, expenditures). Several confounders including sociodemographic characteristics and migration history will be collected. The qualitative part will explore longitudinally the experience of change in legal status at individual and family levels.ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Geneva, Switzerland. All participants provided informed consent. Results will be shared with undocumented migrants and disseminated in scientific journals and conferences. Fully anonymised data will be available to researchers.

- Abstract
This article examines the nature of symbolism in Argentine cinema by way of the films made by Eliseo Subiela during the redemocratization period. Based on Durandian Myth-Criticism, we interpret symbolical redundancies in Hombre mirando al sudeste (1987), Últimas imágenes del naufragio (1989), No te mueras sin decirme adónde vas (1995), El lado oscuro del corazón (1992), Despabílate amor (1996) y Pequeños milagros (1997), and infer that the corpus reveals aspects of the concrete reality from which the symbols emerge, highlights the anguish resulting from the awareness of the passing of time, and preserves the polyvalence of symbolic universes. We conclude that the return to mythical reality may be related to the need to find meaning after the horror of dictatorship., Neste ensaio estudamos o grau de abertura simbólica da cinematografia argentina através das películas que Eliseo Subiela realizou no período de redemocratização. [EN] While the baby boom is well known, even beyond the scientific community, there is no consensus about its explanation. New avenues for research have recently emerged, using a qualitative or a quantitative approach. In this paper, we present a research design that articulates data, data collection and analyses. We use a sample of life calendars collected among Swiss residents aged 65 and over, which have been complemented with life histories for a sub-sample. Asking older adults to tell the story of their life necessarily implies information gaps (involuntary or voluntary), mistakes or approximations. We discuss the implications in terms of data quality, data validation and representativeness of the sample. The life course approach offers the framework needed to deal with the complexity of individual trajectories, to locate biographies in their evolving context, and to integrate objective and subjective material. Two statistical perspectives (exploratory and confirmatory) have been applied and combined with the individual assessment of their life trajectories., [FR] Alors que le baby-boom est connu bien au-delà de la communauté scientifique, ses causes ne font toujours pas consensus parmi les chercheurs. In this dissertation, we study the enchantment of Eliseo Subiela‟s cinematographic and advertising audiovisual aesthetics in order to ascertain the idea of reality that they collaborate to build. We intend to understand cinematographic aesthetics proposals that move away from realisms in the period of re-democratization of Argentina, assuming that this distance was result of an approximation between cinematographic and advertising fields. We initially considered the concepts of disenchantment and re-enchantment of the world in order to understand enchantment differences between these communicational fields, resorting to Max Weber, Antônio Flávio Pierucci, Wolfgang Schluchter, Jürgen Habermas, David Morgan, Jesus Martín-Barbero, Alkis Kontos and Rudy Albino de Assunção. The contact with scholars of imaginary – such as Gilbert Durand, Mircea Eliade and Carl Gustav Jung – came to dispel the antagonism that permeated the two sociological concepts. From this, we adopt the imaginary as heuristic and we choose to use the term enchantment, understanding that humans always come into contact with the world through images and they are unable to get rid of magic. We develop a reflection on values and symbolic tendencies that permeate technical images and cinematographic and advertising fields. For this, we mobilized image theorists – such as Vilém Flusser, Jacques Aumont, Arlindo Machado, Hans Belting and Régis Debray; researchers of general and Argentine advertising – such as Jean Baudrillard, Malena Contrera, Raúl Eguizábal and Orlando Aprile; and scholars of general and Argentine cinema – such as Jacques Aumont, Edgar Morin, Claudio España, Ricardo Manetti, Alberto Ciria and José Luis Visconti. We draw inspiration from Durand's mythocritique to elaborate a method of interpretation specific to the case studied. We interpret symbolically perceived redundancies in a corpus of 30 commercials and six films directed by Subiela. We realize that Subiela‟s cinematography shows openness to symbolic universe, revealing aspects of concrete reality that have given rise to certain symbols. The commercials of this Argentine director, although in many cases they have similar symbolic tendencies to those of films, they are more closed to the imaginary, hiding the origin of symbols and cutting of its multivalence. We point out that return to mythic reality through Subiela's cinematography can be related to the need to find meaning after the horror experienced during the years leading up to re-democratization.

- Abstract
This paper seeks to understand how certain fascist characteristics, thought in a micropolitical level, permeate the interactions that occur amongthe various members of the Jury Court. For this, it describes the semioticinteractions that constituted the Jury’s Court Semiosphere in three sessions ofthe Jury’s Court of Judicial District of Porto Alegre, in order to ascertain howthese characteristics are translated and tensioned in the relations that areestablished between nucleus and periphery of this semiosphere. The paper isbased on the observational method of Antonio Carlos Gil as technical meansof obtaining data, that resulted in a descriptive research, according to CleberCristiano Pradanov and Ernani Cesar de Freitas. The analysis is based onSemiotics of Culture concepts, mainly addressed by Iúri Lotman and IreneMachado, concerning to the codifications being in several areas of culture. There are also references to reflections of Umberto Eco, on different types offascism, and Roland Barthes, on political and fascist aspects of language. It also explores the relations between fascism and power based on Deleuze,Guattari, and Michel Foucault. The focus of the work is directed towardsa reading of the translations and the tensions that occurred in those trials. It discusses the dynamics established among members of the Jury’s Courtfocusing on the structurality of language, perceiving a strong power dispute thatis manifested in the fascist characteristics that permeate those relations. It isnoted that micropolitical actions against power are limited by semiosphere highcodification and description level, which establish a practically insurmountableborder between nucleus and periphery. This reveals that micropolitical leveltends to reproduce what is established macro politically., Este artigo visa entender como certas características fascistas, pensadas a nível micropolítico, permeiam as interações que ocorrem entre os diversos integrantes do Tribunal do Júri.

- Abstract
Introduction: Migrants without residency permit, known as undocumented, tend to live in precarious conditions and be exposed to an accumulation of adverse determinants of health. Only scarce evidence exists on the social, economic and living conditions-related factors influencing their health status and well-being. No study has assessed the impact of legal status regularisation. The Parchemins study is the first prospective, mixed-methods study aiming at measuring the impact on health and well-being of a regularisation policy on undocumented migrants in Europe., Methods and Analysis: The Parchemins study will compare self-rated health and satisfaction with life in a group of adult undocumented migrants who qualify for applying for a residency permit (intervention group) with a group of undocumented migrants who lack one or more eligibility criteria for regularisation (control group) in Geneva Canton, Switzerland. The qualitative part will explore longitudinally the experience of change in legal status at individual and family levels., Ethics and Dissemination: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Geneva, Switzerland. All participants provided informed consent. Results will be shared with undocumented migrants and disseminated in scientific journals and conferences. Fully anonymised data will be available to researchers., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2019. Re-use permitted under CC BY-NC.
