The tablet project was undertaken in 2013 to explore the creation of an assessment to reveal English language learners' (ELLs') language capabilities in content area classes such as science. Such assessments could ideally be useful in multiple phases of the instructional process by providing information to learners, teachers, and other stakeholders because the technologies allow for efficiencies of task presentation, response gathering, scoring, storing data, and returning results. With the goal of understanding the development costs required to achieve such benefits, the project used an evidence-centered design (ECD) framework to create a prototype assessment for ELL middle school students. In addition to describing the ECD process, the report describes how the project mandate helped to focus the complex processes of ECD and how the activities of ECD came into play in sketching plans for the validity argument. The ECD process of domain analysis uncovered perspectives on tablet use in middle schools as well as theoretical perspectives for conceptualizing the tablet users' abilities and learning. Findings included a range of uses of mobile technologies in middle school classrooms in 2013, with little uniformity in practices. Based on analysis of common elements in tablet-based communication and learning, a framework for characterizing the relevant strategies and abilities was developed. Findings served in the domain modeling process of defining task design patterns, which in turn provided the basis for planning the conceptual assessment framework (CAF). The CAF also drew upon domain analysis findings, which suggested the concepts required for defining a student model (what is to be inferred about the test taker), an evidence model (the basis for making the inference), and the task model (the features of tasks required for eliciting relevant performance). The assessment implementation process produced a working prototype that served in usability testing and gathering feedback from middle school teachers. The report describes how ECD guides the design of tablet-based formative assessment tasks that take into account the constructs to be measured and the learning that should result from test taking. The evaluation of the project is undertaken in view of the goal of ECD to design test tasks in a manner that serves in the argument for their use. Success is therefore evaluated in part by an analysis of the quality of content it supplied for an interpretation/use argument for the assessment. Overall, the project highlights include (a) the demonstration of how a mandate delimits the ECD processes; (b) the construct framework encompassing both the linguistic and nonlinguistic resources used to create meaning in a digital environment; (c) the approach used for analysis of a domain with emerging, shifting, and variously used technologies; and (d) the use of an interpretation/use argument in the appraisal of an ECD test design.

Introduction: Accurate prediction of birth weight is crucial for both fetuses and mothers. Low birth weight (birth weight < 2500g) and high birth weight (birth weight > 4000g) can lead to high perinatal mortality rates, various complications, and both short -term and longterm health outcomes such as chronic diseases. This article aims to propose a machine-learning solution to enhance the accuracy of birth weight prediction and assist clinicians in identifying potential risks before birth. Materials and Methods: Seven hundred thirty different fetuses between weeks 15-40 were analyzed using clinical data. Nine different regression models from supervised machine learning methods, including logistic regression, support vector machine, decision t ree, elastic net regressor, lasso regressor, ridge regressor, artificial neural network, random forest, and k-nearest neighbors algorithms, were employed to predict fetal birth weights based on gestational week, maternal age, gender, and ultrasound measurements, including bipari etal diameter, abdominal circumference, and femur length. Results: Our study revealed that abdominal circumference was the most influential parameter, while gender had the least impact. The performance of the nine different algorithms in birth weight prediction was compared, and the elastic net regressor algorithm exhibited the best predictive performance. The proposed model yielded a prediction result with an average absolute error percentage of 8.87% and an average error of ±284g. A new formula for the newborn weight prediction model was developed using the elasti c net regressor machine learning method. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that the model created with the elastic net regressor algorithm can predict birth weight at any gestational age between weeks 15-40. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The sternal foramen is a defect associated with incomplete fusion of neonatal sternal cartilage. These variations are frequently observed and usually asymptomatic. The clinical importance of sternal foramen is that if its existence is unknow n, can complicate invasive procedures and be confused with pathologies. Materials and Methods: Computed Tomography images of 500 patients were analyzed retrospectively. The sternal foramen's diameters were measured and adjacent organs were recognized. The foramen's distance from the sternum's upper and lower edges, midline, xiphoid's lowest point, and incisura jugularis were measured. Results: 54 foramen sternales were detected in 48(9.6%) patients. When the organs adjacent to foramen sternale were examined, 36(67%) heart, 7(13%) lungs, 5(9%) liver, 2(4%) diaphragm, 1(2%) stomach, 3(5%) were both heart and lung. The mean distance of th e highest point of foramen from the midsagittal line to incisura jugularis was 157.6±23.9 mm in men and 119.9±15.51 mm i n women. There was a statistically significant difference. The position of 38 male patients’ foramen with respect to the line connecting nipples was investigated, and it was determined that the highest point of foramen was on the line in 1 patient and below in 37 patients. Conclusion: Although the sternal foramen is an asymptomatic defect, it can confused with pathologies and may cause life -threatening complications during invasive procedures. Aim: Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS) is an autosomal recessive DNA repair disorder which is characterized by immunodeficiency and increased risk of lymphoproliferative malignancy. Case: We observed an increase in the rate of chromosomal rearrangements in the cultured cells following an incidental radiograph for craniosynostosis in a newborn who was followed up due to microcephaly. We identified a homozygous deletion of c.657_661delACAAA/p.Lys219fs (rs587776650) in the NBN gene through whole exome sequencing. Conclusion: It is crucial to thoroughly examine the clinical features of newborns with microcephaly and consider chromosomal instability syndromes just like Nijmegen breakage syndrome. Not overlooking radiosensitivity, which is a characteristic feature of this syndrome, is a vital condition to the patient's survival time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
