In this paper, a modified three-phase synchronous reluctance motor model based on stator-fluxes and rotor-fluxes in synchronously rotating reference frame is presented. Being a nonlinear system, three-phase synchronous reluctance motor state estimation is carried out using extended Kalman filter. Additionally, parameter sensitivity analysis is performed to convey which parameter is critical in case of actual motor and model parameters mismatch. Extensive simulation studies are performed under different machine operating conditions and machine model uncertainties. The simulation studies are verified on a 5.5 kW synchronous reluctance motor using MATLAB software. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by simulation results.

When a fault occurs in the Radial Distribution System, it may take some time to repair the faulted section, and there is no supply to the rest of the sections which are connected to the faulted section until it is repaired. Therefore, the problem of service restoration is an important task in distribution systems. Service must be restored to out-of-service areas by connecting the isolated sections to the other feeders. This can be done by changing the status of the switches between the zones. The generalized algorithms for the problem of service restoration in distribution systems during a fault at a particular zone were developed using Breadth-First Search are tested on a practical test distribution system. The effectiveness of the proposed Breadth-First search method in terms of computational burden is the efficacy of the presented strategy.

In this paper, a topology is formed by series-connected numbers of the suggested basic unit. In order to generate all (even and odd) voltage levels, two units are connected with two different operating frequencies. Phase disposition-based sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique with different carrier arrangement is preferred to get the driving pulses of the switches in stage generation part to achieve different level of the output. Finally, the performance of the topology is verified by comparing the simulation results with experimental results. As a result, it is confirmed that the authors topology is better compared to traditional topology in view point of size, reliability, and efficiency.

Outcome-based education (OBE) is nothing but education based on the results. It's an approach that concentrates and organizes an education system in order to know, value, and be capable of achieving the desired skill level, which is essential for each learner. OBE helps in assessing the learners in different way rather than traditional evaluation of giving grades/ranks. Assessment is an important method for evaluating a student's progress after a learning process. A substantial effort was made to define the different elements that constitute a good program evaluation process from the observable study results at the level of courses and programmes by mapping and analysis information. Assessment tools are required to know how well programs and courses are listening for students. Based on the course, the assessment may be the formative or summative to assess the learning of the learners. OBE is the widely accepted method in measuring the learner's outcome.

Now-a-days Usage of Multilevel Inverters application is very wide in the industrial applications. Keeping in view of industrial applications, a multi-level inverter with a solar PV array is designed in this paper to deliver power to the Alternating Current based load. A step-up converter is used at the input side of the three-phase multilevel inverter, which delivers the energy for the three-phase load, to regulate the output voltage of the solar Photovoltaic panel. The multilevel inverter utilizes 9 switching devices with five level sources in accordance to the usage of the level of sources in recent topologies. However, the advantage of this topology is that it uses fewer semiconductor switches than current topologies. Eventually, the paper includes the results of the modelling in the MATLAB and the experimental implementation of the proposed topology.

In this article different multi-level inverter (MLI) configuration is introduced by a decreased quantity of power elements. At the output side the MLI topology generates the seven level voltage waveform with minimum number of components. The said topology configuration requires less dc voltage and power semiconductor switches. It also reduces the voltage block on switches, which reduces the inverter topology complexity and costs. Such capabilities were discovered by contrasting the topology to traditional topologies from the above perspectives. Testing were carried out to demonstrate the efficacy of the generalized MLI topology in both simulation and hardware, and the findings are presented for better understanding.

Consequently, desires for new teaching methods and learning approaches should be created in the arena. The objective of this chapter is to incorporate various teaching learning methods, educational tools to improve the learning experience of students, and also to fulfil the teaching experience of faculty. The purpose of this research is also to explore the effects of innovative teaching learning strategies based on the performance of student grades. The experiment has been carried out on two courses of electrical and electronics engineering. There are no commendable measures to evaluate the learning outcomes of the student hourly basis in traditional pedagogy. Therefore, this chapter proposed various pedagogical approaches that help to achieve the desirable things.

Multilevel inverter plays a crucial role in industrial applications. The performance of cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI) with reduced switch count is analyzed in this paper. If the switches have been increased the switching loss and THD will increase. The preferred topology is simulated for seven level and fifteen level by considering isolated DC source and PV. The reduced % THD is identified compare to other topologies. Four switches continuously working at fundamental switching frequency is considered as one of the advantage of the topology.

In recent years multilevel inverters have been extensively worn in high voltage and high power applications for their unique performance. Reliability of the power electronic equipment is very essential to make sure that inverter operation should be stable and it is most important to detect and locate the faults as speedily as possible. This paper deals with open switch-fault finding method in a multilevel inverter using wavelet transformation tool. A fault diagnosis procedure is proposed and executed using MATLAB.

In the modern industrial drive system, power electronic converters are employed not only to control the electromechanical energy conversion process, but also facilitate energy efficiency and continued automation. In the drive system, induction motor (IM) is a preferred energy conversion device because of its inherent features. Nowadays, power converters using MLI’s playing vital role in the energy conversion process also multilevel configuration allow raising the power-handling capability of the system. Thus, in this paper fifteen level cascaded MLI fed closed loop V/f controlled IM drive is developed and its performance indicators have been analyzed for multicarrier carrier PWM strategy executed using MATLAB/Simulink.

The performances of multilevel inverters (MLIs) are of high competence when compared to the conventional two-level inverters due to reduced harmonic distortions, lower electromagnetic interference, and higher dc link voltages. However, the increased number of components, complex PWM control, and voltage-balancing problem, component failure in the circuit are some of the disadvantages. The topology preferred in this chapter provides a dc voltage in the shape of a staircase which approximates the rectified shape of a commanded sinusoidal wave to the bridge inverter, which in turn alternates the polarity to produce an AC voltage with lesser total harmonic distortion. This topology requires fewer components and hence it leads to a reduction of overall cost and complexity particularly for higher output voltage levels. The component fault diagnostic procedure is developed using wavelets transform tool. Finally, the experimental prototype is developed and validated with the simulation results for different loading conditions.

Many wound rotor induction motor models are available in the literature. In this paper, a modified extended wound rotor induction motor model using reference frame theory is presented. State estimation of the proposed WRIM model is carried out using discrete-time extended Kalman filter (DTEKF). Rotor current sensors are required for state estimation which are usually present in all WRIM applications. Analytical simulations are carried out for a 3.7 kW four-pole wound rotor induction motor using MATLAB scientific environment-version R2016a. The results show the advantage of the proposed state estimation in realistic applications from the rotor prospective.
