Abstract Objective Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) often exhibits suboptimal treatment response despite early diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to analyze Early Rheumatoid Arthritis (ERA) synovial biopsies through histology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to identify predictive factors for treatment response to Methotrexate (MTX). Methods 140 ERA patients from the UCLouvain Arthritis Cohort underwent synovial biopsy and were monitored after initiating Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drug (DMARD) therapy. Objectives To investigate if patients with early rheumatoid arthritis responding insufficiently to initial methotrexate (MTX) and bridging glucocorticoids (GCs) could benefit from early but temporary etanercept introduction as a second remission-induction attempt.Methods CareRA2020 (NCT03649061) was a 2-year, open-label, multicentre, pragmatic randomised controlled trial. Treatment-naïve patients started MTX and GC bridging (COBRA-Slim: CS). Passive cooling of photovoltaics (PV) using phase change materials (PCM) may be extremely effective owing to their enormous implicit specific heat. However, the low rate of heat transfer, high solar radiation, and ambient temperature drop its efficiency by 0.45%/ᵒC. Only such a small fraction of solar irradiance is turned into electrical energy by PV cells; most of the irradiation is transformed into heat; hence, cells start operating above ambient temperature. Therefore, the exterior heat of photovoltaic panels is controlled by applying artificial cooling to enhance their efficiency. The current research aims on the significant benefits of using PCM to reduce panel surface temperature in terms of boosting energy efficiency and maintaining thermal comfort. This study demonstrates a successful design of PV controlled-temperature module using phase change materials for hot climate, especially for south Asian regions. The surface temperature of solar panels has been reduced using computational analysis and experimental study on paraffin wax. In this work, Paraffin wax used, which reduced the panel surface temperature by 5-7ᵒC, generating a 29% increase of the modified PV panel relative efficiency compared to its standard value.

Objectives To assess the safety and efficacy of upadacitinib versus adalimumab from SELECT-COMPARE over 5 years.Methods Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and inadequate response to methotrexate were randomised to receive upadacitinib 15 mg once daily, placebo or adalimumab 40 mg every other week, all with concomitant methotrexate. By week 26, patients with insufficient response to randomised treatment were rescued; patients remaining on placebo switched to upadacitinib. Patients completing the 48-week double-blind period could enter a long-term extension. Safety and efficacy were assessed through week 264, with radiographic progression analysed through week 192. Safety was assessed by treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs). Efficacy was analysed by randomised group (non-responder imputation (NRI)) or treatment sequence (as observed).Results Rates of TEAEs were generally similar with upadacitinib versus adalimumab, although numerically higher rates of herpes zoster, lymphopenia, creatine phosphokinase elevation, hepatic disorder and non-melanoma skin cancer were reported with upadacitinib. Abstract Introduction This study sought to analyze the benefit of an early induction therapy with a biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARD) during the first year of treatment with a 5-year follow-up in early rheumatoid arthritis (ERA). Methods We included ERA patients from the UCLouvain Brussels cohort who met the American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) 2010 classification criteria and were naïve to DMARDs. ERA patients were divided into two groups according to whether they received an induction bDMARD therapy or a standard therapy with methotrexate (MTX). Clinical response after the induction treatment at 6 and 12 months followed by a MTX maintenance therapy at 36 and 60 months was evaluated. Results Data from 470 ERA patients were collected, 189 received a bDMARD and 281 initiated MTX alone. In the bDMARD group, disease activity and HAQ were higher at baseline. A total of 391 patients were followed up to 5 years. We then divided each group into two subgroups according to the last treatment they received at 5 years: bDMARD > MTX (n = 95), bDMARD > bDMARD (n = 59); MTX > MTX (n = 134), MTX > bDMARD (n = 103). During the induction, we observed a clinical response with a large number of patients achieving DAS28-CRP remission. According to a treat-to-target (T2T) approach, remission rate was stable on MTX monotherapy or rescued by the addition or prolongation of a bDMARD. Interestingly, bDMARD followed by a MTX maintenance therapy experienced a stable and sustained DAS28-CRP remission rate in 53% of the ERA patients at year 5. Conclusions Long-term remission is an achievable goal in ERA. Our results suggest that a bDMARD induction therapy followed by MTX maintenance therapy could be an interesting option.

To address the increasing energy demand, replacing conventional energy systems with non-conventional resources like solar power generation is crucial. Photovoltaic (PV) panels play a significant role in harnessing solar energy and converting it into electrical power. However, the solar cells’ temperature dramatically influences the panel’s performance, particularly in hot climates. In this study, a detailed mathematical model is developed and conducted simulations using three different phase change materials (PCMs)—RT21, RT35, and RT44—integrated with PV panels in various climate conditions worldwide during the summer season. An optimization model is also created using MATLAB and a genetic algorithm to identify the most suitable PCM for specific climate zones. The findings revealed that incorporating PCM resulted in a surface temperature reduction of PV panels, leading to a 6% increase in efficiency and a 16% boost in electrical output. Specifically, when using a PCM with a melting point of 21°C, the maximum cell temperature during summer operation decreased from 65°C to 38°C. Similar temperature reductions were observed when using PCMs with melting points of 35°C and 44°C. Current analysis demonstrates that the correct selection of a phase change material can decrease panel temperature by approximately 39% in June. Furthermore, PCM with a melting point of 21°C exhibited the best outcomes in terms of maximum electrical performance, efficiency, and PV cell temperature reduction.

Abstract Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a heterogeneous disease with established poor prognostic factors such as seropositivity, joint damage, and high disease activity at an early, treatment-naïve stage of disease. However, few studies have examined if specific joint locations are correlated with these factors in such a population. This analysis explored the potential correlation of individual swollen and erosive joints with other disease characteristics at baseline and with remission rates in a post-hoc analysis of the Phase III randomized AGREE study. Methods Methotrexate (MTX)-naïve, erosive, RF- and/or ACPA-positive early RA patients (N = 509) were retrospectively evaluated. Baseline joint swelling was analyzed for large and small joints. Baseline erosions were analyzed for wrist, MCP1–5, IP1, PIP2–5 and MTP1–5. Remission rates were assessed after 6 months of treatment with abatacept (ABA) + MTX (N = 256) or MTX (N = 253). The following statistical tests were used: Chi-Square or Fisher’s exact test (categorical variables); Student’s t-test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test (continuous variables); continuity-corrected Chi-square test (efficacy remission endpoints). Background: Although biological therapies have transformed the outlook for those with rheumatoid arthritis, there is a lack of any meaningful response in approximately 40% of patients. The role of B cells in rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis is well recognised and is supported by the clinical efficacy of the B-cell-depleting agent rituximab (MabThera, F. Hoffman La-Roche Ltd, Basel, Switzerland). Rituximab is licensed for use in rheumatoid arthritis following failure of conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs and tumour necrosis factor inhibitor therapy. However, over 50% of patients show low/absent synovial B-cell infiltration, suggesting that, in these patients, inflammation is driven by alternative cell types. This prompted us to test the hypothesis that, in synovial biopsy B-cell-poor patients, tocilizumab (RoActemra, F. Hoffman La-Roche Ltd, Basel, Switzerland) (targeting interleukin 6) is superior to rituximab (targeting CD20+/B cells). Background There is a lack of data on SARS-CoV-2 vaccination safety in children and young people (CYP) with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs). Current vaccination guidance is based on data from adults with RMDs or CYP without RMDs.Objectives To describe the safety of SARS-COV-2 vaccination in adolescents with inflammatory RMDs and adults with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).Methods We described patient characteristics, flares and adverse events (AEs) in adolescent cases under 18 with inflammatory RMDs and adult cases aged 18 or above with JIA submitted to the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology COVAX registry.Results A total of 110 cases were reported to the registry. Thirty-six adolescent cases were reported from four countries, most with JIA (42%). Over half (56%) reported early reactogenic-like AEs. One mild polyarthralgia flare and one serious AE of special interest (malaise) were reported. No CYP reported SARS-CoV-2 infection postvaccination.Seventy-four adult JIA cases were reported from 11 countries. Almost two-thirds (62%) reported early reactogenic-like AEs and two flares were reported (mild polyarthralgia and moderate uveitis). No serious AEs of special interest were reported among adults with JIA. Three female patients aged 20–30 years were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 postvaccination; all fully recovered.Conclusions This is an important contribution to research on SARS-CoV-2 vaccine safety in adolescents with RMDs and adults with JIA. It is important to note the low frequency of disease flares, serious AEs and SARS-CoV-2 reinfection seen in both populations, although the dataset is limited by its size.

Abstract Background A subcutaneous (SC) formulation of infliximab biosimilar CT-P13 is approved in Europe for the treatment of adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It may offer improved efficacy versus intravenous (IV) infliximab formulations. Methods A network meta-regression was conducted using individual patient data from two randomised trials in patients with RA, which compared CT-P13 SC with CT-P13 IV, and CT-P13 IV with reference infliximab IV. In this analysis, CT-P13 SC was compared with CT-P13 IV, reference infliximab IV and pooled data for both reference infliximab IV and CT-P13 IV. Outcomes included changes from baseline in 28-joint Disease Activity Score based on C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP), Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI) and Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI), and rates of remission, low disease activity or clinically meaningful improvement in functional disability per Health Assessment Questionnaire–Disability Index (HAQ-DI). Results The two studies enrolled 949 patients with RA; pooled data for 840 and 751 patients were evaluable at weeks 30 and 54, respectively. Abstract Baricitinib is an oral selective inhibitor of Janus kinase (JAK)1 and JAK2 that has proved effective and well tolerated in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in an extensive programme of clinical studies of patients with moderate-to-severe disease. In a phase 2b dose-ranging study of baricitinib in combination with traditional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in RA patients, magnetic resonance imaging showed that baricitinib 2 mg or 4 mg once daily provided dose-dependent suppression of synovitis, osteitis, erosion and cartilage loss at weeks 12 and 24 versus placebo. These findings correlated with clinical outcomes and were confirmed in three phase 3 studies (RA-BEGIN, RA-BEAM and RA-BUILD) using X-rays to assess structural joint damage. In patients naïve to DMARDs (RA-BEGIN study), baricitinib 4 mg once daily as monotherapy or combined with methotrexate produced smaller mean changes in structural joint damage than methotrexate monotherapy at week 24. Differences versus methotrexate were statistically significant for combined therapy. In patients responding inadequately to methotrexate (RA-BEAM study), baricitinib 4 mg plus background methotrexate significantly inhibited structural joint damage at week 24 versus placebo, and the results were comparable to those observed with adalimumab plus background methotrexate. In patients responding inadequately to conventional synthetic DMARDs (csDMARDs; RA-BUILD study), baricitinib 4 mg again significantly inhibited radiographic progression compared with placebo at week 24. Benefits were also observed with baricitinib 2 mg once daily, but the effects of baricitinib 4 mg were more robust. The positive effects of baricitinib 4 mg on radiographic progression continued over 1 and 2 years in the long-term extension study RA-BEYOND, with similar effects to adalimumab and significantly greater effects than placebo. Findings from the phase 3 studies of patients with RA were supported by preclinical studies, which showed that baricitinib has an osteoprotective effect, increasing mineralisation in bone-forming cells. In conclusion, baricitinib 4 mg once daily inhibits radiographic joint damage progression in patients with moderate-to-severe RA who are naïve to DMARDs or respond inadequately to csDMARDs, including methotrexate, and the beneficial effects are similar to those observed with adalimumab.

Abstract Background/purpose Studies have demonstrated that rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients who achieve low disease activity or remission are able to taper biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs). The aim of this study was to evaluate the proportion of patients in whom bDMARDs can be tapered in daily practice and to analyse the characteristics of these patients. Other objectives were to analyse which bDMARDs are more suitable for dose reduction and the cost savings. Results Data from 332 eligible RA patients from our Brussels UCLouvain cohort were retrospectively analysed; 140 patients (42.1%) received a tapered regimen, and 192 received stable doses of bDMARDs. The age at diagnosis (43.1 vs 38.7 years, p = 0.04), health assessment questionnaire (HAQ) score (1.3 vs 1.5, p = 0.048), RF positivity rate (83.3 vs 72.9%, p = 0.04) and disease duration at the time of bDMARD introduction (9.7 vs 12.1 years, p = 0.034) were significantly different between the reduced-dose and stable-dose groups. Interestingly, relatively more patients receiving a tapered dose were treated with a combination of bDMARDs and methotrexate (MTX) (86.7% vs 73.8%, p = 0.005). In our cohort, anti-TNF agents were the most commonly prescribed medications (68%). Only 15 patients experienced a flare during follow-up. Adalimumab, etanercept and rituximab were the most common bDMARDs in the reduced-dose group and were associated with the most important reductions in annual cost. Conclusion In daily practice, tapering bDMARDs in RA patients who have achieved low disease activity or remission is an achievable goal in a large proportion of patients, thereby reducing potential side effects and annual drug-associated costs. The combination of bDMARDs with MTX could improve the success of dose reduction attempts. Abstract Background Serum protein glycosylation is an area of investigation in inflammatory arthritic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Indeed, some studies highlighted abnormalities of protein glycosylation in RA. Considering the numerous types of enzymes, monosaccharides and glycosidic linkages, glycosylation is one of the most complex post translational modifications. By this work, we started with a preliminary screening of glycoproteins in serum from RA patients and controls. Methods In order to isolate glycoproteins from serum, lectin wheat germ agglutinin was used and quantitative differences between patients and controls were investigated by LC–MS/MS. Consequently, we focused our attention on two glycoproteins found in this explorative phase: corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP). The subsequent validation with immunoassays was widened to a larger number of early RA (ERA) patients (n = 90) and well-matched healthy controls (n = 90). Results We observed a significant reduction of CBG and LBP glycosylation in ERA patients compared with healthy controls. Further, after 12 months of treatment, glycosylated CBG and LBP levels increased both to values comparable to those of controls. In addition, these changes were correlated with clinical parameters. Conclusions This study enables to observe that glycosylation changes of CBG and LBP are related to RA disease activity and its response to treatment.

The use of efficient treatment with a treat-to-target strategy combined with early detection of the disease completely changed the imaging presentation and outcome of newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become the reference technique in clinical research to detect and quantify inflammatory involvement of the soft tissues (synovitis and tenosynovitis) and bone marrow (osteitis) along with structural damages of the bone (erosions) in hands of patients with RA. Three-point Dixon MRI may be a valuable alternative to the currently recommended sequences as it yields effective fat signal suppression, high imaging quality and reproducible assessment of disease activity.

Nowadays, in the study of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), more and more interest is directed towards an earlier effective therapeutic intervention and the determination of companion markers for predicting response to therapy with the goal to prevent progressive joint damage, deformities, and functional disability. With the present work, we aimed at quantifying in a cohort of early RA (ERA) patients naïve to DMARD therapy, proteins whose increase was previously found associated with RA: serum amyloid A (A-SAA) and alarmins. Five A-SAA variants (SAA1α, SAA1β, SAA1γ, SAA2α, and SAA2β) but also S100A8 and S100A9 proteins were simultaneously quantified in plasma applying a method based on single targeted bottom-up proteomics LC-MS/MS. First, we compared their expression between ERA (n = 100) and healthy subjects (n = 100), then we focused on their trend by monitoring ERA patients naïve to DMARD treatment, 1 year after starting therapy. Only SAA1α and SAA2α levels were increased in ERA patients, and SAA2α appears to mostly mediate the pathological role of A-SAA. Levels of these variants, together with SAA1β, only decreased under biologic DMARD treatment but not under methotrexate monotherapy. This study highlights the importance to better understand the modulation of expression of these variants in ERA in order to subsequently better characterize their biological function. On the other hand, alarmin expression increased in ERA compared to controls but remained elevated after 12 months of methotrexate or biologic treatment. The work overcomes the concept of considering these proteins as biomarkers for diagnosis, demonstrating that SAA1α, SAA1β, and SAA2α variants but also S100A8 and S100A9 do not respond to all early treatment in ERA and should be rather considered as companion markers useful to improve the follow-up of treatment response and remission state. Moreover, it suggests that earlier use of biologics in addition to methotrexate may be worth considering.

ObjectivesOur goal was to assess for the histological and transcriptomic effects of abatacept on RA synovia, and to compare them with previously published data from four other DMARDs: tocilizumab, rituximab, methotrexate, and adalimumab.MethodsSynovial tissue was obtained using ultrasound-guided biopsy from affected joints of 14 patients, before and 16 weeks after treatment with subcutaneous abatacept 125 mg weekly. Paraffin-sections were stained and scored for CD3+, CD20+, and CD68+ cell infiltration. Transcriptional profiling was performed using GeneChip Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 arrays (Affymetrix) and analyzed on Genespring GX (Agilent). Pathway analyses were performed on Genespring GX, Metascape, and EnrichR.ResultsGene expression analysis identified 304 transcripts modulated by abatacept in synovial tissue. Downregulated genes were significantly enriched for immune processes, strongly overlapping with our findings on other therapies. Data were pooled across these studies, revealing that genes downregulated by DMARDs are significantly enriched for both T-cell and myeloid leukocyte activation pathways. Interestingly, DMARDs seem to have coordinate effects on the two pathways, with a stronger impact in good responders to therapy as compared to moderate and non-responders.ConclusionWe provide evidence that the effects of five DMARDs on the RA synovium culminate in the same pathways. This confirms previous studies suggesting the existence of common mediators downstream of DMARDs, independent of their primary targets.

Abstract Background The aim of this global collaboration was to develop a consensual set of items for the analysis of synovial biopsies in clinical practice and translational research through the EULAR Synovitis Study Group (ESSG) and OMERACT Synovial Tissue Biopsy Group. Methods Participants were consulted through a modified Delphi method. Three sequential rounds occurred over 12 months. Members were sent a written questionnaire containing items divided into two parts. Items were identified and formulated based on a scoping review. The first part of the questionnaire referred to synovial biopsies in clinical practice including five subsections, and the second part to translational research with six subsections. Every participant was asked to score each item on a 5-point Likert scale. Items with a median score above 3.5 and a ≥ 70% agreement were selected for the next round. The last round was conducted orally at EULAR in June 2017. Results Twenty-seven participants from 19 centers were contacted by email. Twenty participants from 17 centers answered. Response rates for next rounds were 100%. For the first part relating to clinical practice, 20/44 items (45.5%) were selected. For the second part relating to translational research, 18/43 items (41.9%) were selected for the final set. Conclusions We herein propose a consensual set of analysis items to be used for synovial biopsies conducted in clinical practice and translational research.

ObjectivesWe explored histological and transcriptomic profiles of paired synovial biopsies from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, in order to assess homogeneity in synovial tissue at the individual level.MethodsSynovial biopsies were performed simultaneously in one small and one large joint per patient using needle-arthroscopy for the knee and ultrasound-guided biopsy for the hand or wrist. Synovium from individuals with osteoarthritis was used as controls. Paraffin-embedded samples were stained for CD3, CD20, and CD68. Total RNA was hybridized on high-density microarrays. TCRB variable sequences were obtained from synovial and blood RNA samples.ResultsTwenty paired biopsies from 10 RA patients with active disease were analyzed. Semi-quantification of histological markers showed a positive correlation for synovial hyperplasia, inflammatory infiltrates and CD3-positive T cells between pairs. Pairwise comparison of transcriptomic profiles showed similar expression of RA-related molecular pathways (TCR signaling, T cell costimulation and response to TNFα). T cells clonotypes were enriched in all but one joints compared to blood, regardless of the magnitude of T cell infiltration. Enriched clonotypes were shared between pairs (23–100%), but this was less the case in pairs of joints displaying weaker T cell signatures and more pronounced germinal center-like transcriptomic profiles.ConclusionCellular and molecular alterations in RA synovitis are similar between small and large joints from the same patient. Interindividual differences in magnitude of T cell infiltrates and distribution of enriched T cell clonotypes support the concept of distinct synovial pathotypes in RA that are associated with systemic versus local antigen-driven activation of T cells.

Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disorder with a global prevalence of approximately 0.5–1%. Patients with RA are at an increased risk of developing comorbidities (eg, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes and depression). Despite this, there are limited recommendations for the management and implementation of associated comorbidities. This study aimed to identify good practice interventions in the care of RA and associated comorbidities.Methods A combination of primary research (180+ interviews with specialists across 12 European rheumatology centres) and secondary research (literature review of existing publications and guidelines/recommendations) were used to identify challenges in management and corresponding good practice interventions. Findings were prioritised and reviewed by a group of 18 rheumatology experts including rheumatologists, comorbidity experts, a patient representative and a highly specialised nurse.Results Challenges throughout the patient pathway (including delays in diagnosis and referral, shortage of rheumatologists, limited awareness of primary care professionals) and 18 good practice interventions were identified in the study. The expert group segmented and prioritised interventions according to three distinct stages of the disease: (1) suspected RA, (2) recent diagnosis of RA and (3) established RA. Examples of good practice interventions included enabling self-management (self-monitoring and disease management support, for example, lifestyle adaptations); early arthritis clinic; rapid access to care (online referral, triage, ultrasound-guided diagnosis); dedicated comorbidity specialists; enhanced communication with primary care (hotline, education sessions); and integrating patient registries into daily clinical practice.Conclusion Learning from implementation of good practice interventions in centres across Europe provides an opportunity to more widely improved care for patients with RA and associated comorbidities.

Tras la descolonización, Francia logró mantener relaciones estrechas con sus antiguas colonias del África subsahariana a través de acuerdos de cooperación económicos, culturales y militares. Gracias a éstos y a la permanencia de sus fuerzas militares en el continente, se impuso como el “protector” de los nuevos Estados, en el marco de la Guerra Fría, aun si para la ejecución de esta política no solía contar con el respaldo de sus socios europeos. Sin embargo, las críticas recibidas, en particular después del genocidio en Ruanda de 1994, incitaron a los dirigentes franceses a movilizar las herramientas nacientes de política exterior y de seguridad europea (pesc) para relegitimar su acción en África. Esta “europeización” de la política africana de Francia llevó al despliegue de misiones civiles y militares de la Unión Europea, si bien ello no bastó para restarle autonomía a los intereses franceses en África y borrar las divergencias con sus socios europeos.

Inventé par le géographe français Onésime Reclus en 1880 pour définir l'espace de diffusion de la langue française au niveau mondial, le mot francophonie refait surface en novembre 1962 à l’occasion d’un numéro spécial de la Revue Esprit consacré au « Français langue vivante ». À partir de 1964, le président du Sénégal, Léopold Sédar Senghor, propose même la création d’une organisation intergouvernementale de la Francophonie. Malgré le soutien de ses homologues africains, Senghor se heurte à l'opposition de la France. Tout en reconnaissant l'existence d'une « réalité francophone », de Gaulle refuse de remettre en cause la politique franco-africaine fondée sur le bilatéralisme au profit de l'édification d'un projet de Francophonie multilatérale. Au cours des années suivantes, la position de la France va toutefois s’infléchir et permettre la création en 1970 d’une première organisation intergouvernementale : l'Agence de Coopération culturelle et technique (ACCT) qui voit le jour à l'issue de deux conférences à Niamey en 1969 et 1970. Si cette évolution n’aurait pas eu lieu sans l’insistance de Léopold Sédar Senghor et le soutien de ses homologues de l’Organisation commune africaine et malgache (OCAM), cet article a pour objet de démontrer que c’est avant tout les enjeux liés à la relation avec le Québec qui ont conduit la diplomatie française à endosser le projet de création d'une Francophonie intergouvernementale. Dans la première partie, nous verrons que la volonté du gouvernement du Québec de fonder sa personnalité extérieure sur une union linguistique a conduit le gouvernement français à adopter une attitude plus positive face aux initiatives sur la Francophonie. Dans la deuxième partie, nous verrons que tout en s'appuyant sur l'existence d'un « lobby du Québec » et sur le Secrétariat général aux Affaires africaines et malgaches (SGAAM), le général de Gaulle a souhaité conserver la haute main sur la politique française de la Francophonie en veillant à la fois au maintien de la priorité québécoise et à la préservation des intérêts de sa politique africaine.

Abstract The fascial system is a three-dimensional continuum of connective tissues present everywhere throughout the body, from the head to the toes and from the skin to the bone. The current article aims to review the normal anatomy of the fasciae of the musculoskeletal system with macroscopic and microscopic correlations and to describe their appearance at MRI in normal subjects and in patients with autoimmune diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Key Points • The fascial system is a three-dimensional continuum of connective tissues. • It is present everywhere throughout the body, from the head to the toes and from the skin to the bone. • The normal fascial system is barely visible at MRI. • MR patterns of fascial involvement in autoimmune diseases reflect the complex anatomy of the fasciae of the musculoskeletal system.
