Background: Informed end-of-life decision-making requires a high level of death literacy. We still know little about the general population's level of knowledge and its determinants. Aim: To assess knowledge of the general population regarding the legal status and definitions of various end-of-life practices, and to compare the level of knowledge according to individual characteristics known to influence death literacy. Design: A self-administered questionnaire featuring two evolving vignettes was used to assess participants' knowledge relating to the legal status of various end-of-life practices and whether these practices are Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD), which is legal in Canada. The questionnaire also assessed participants' individual characteristics such as their experience as caregivers for someone who received palliative care, their perception of health, and their financial situation. Setting/participants: Participants were community-based community-based Canadian adults able to read French or English. Results: In total, 27% of the participants associated the description of care withholding with MAiD, 39% incorrectly associated the description of continuous palliative sedation with MAiD, and 34% incorrectly indicated that the described intervention was illegal. Having cared for someone who received palliative care, at a younger age, a higher level of education, and having participated in advance care planning were associated with better knowledge regarding end-of-life practices. Conclusion: Gaps in knowledge about end-of-life practices exist in the general population, they are associated with different individual characteristics and may limit citizens' capacity to engage in informed end-of-life decision-making. Background: Human activities have significantly contributed to a persistent climate change trend, posing substantial threats to human health. Nurses regularly interact with patients experiencing the consequences of climate change, making their engagement in addressing this issue crucial. Nonetheless, our understanding of nurses' viewpoints regarding climate change remains limited. Aim: This scoping review aims to identify practicing nurses' and nursing students' perceptions of climate change. Design: To fulfil this objective, a documentary search strategy was developed using an iterative process. Methods: The search strategy was tested in four bibliographic databases, as well as in the grey literature. A 2‐stage selection process was conducted, and relevant data were extracted from selected articles for analysis. Results: Twenty‐two scientific articles and 11 documents from nursing associations were selected. The findings suggest that while many nurses and nursing students are concerned about climate change and its effects on their patients' health, their role in addressing the climate crisis is not well understood. Many barriers such as having a heavy workload and the lack of support hindered their ability to adjust their practice in response to the changing climate. Furthermore, many expressed a need for trainings on climate change issues. Conclusions: These results raise a great and urgent demand for these professionals to receive appropriate training to cope with climatic threats to health. Future research should focus on the development of nursing climate leadership, and healthcare organizations should support nursing initiatives and help raise nurses' awareness regarding climate change. Traditionally, food system governance has been executed at provincial, national, or supranational levels, but recently, there has been an increasing trend of local areas coordinating initiatives to influence their own food systems. They are distinguished by their focus on the principles of food democracy, especially in terms of citizen participation. Although initiatives to boost citizen collaboration in local food systems are on the rise, achieving active citizen involvement can prove challenging. This study aims to understand citizen engagement and participation in local food systems at the regional, municipal, or neighborhood levels. A narrative literature review was performed, covering academic and gray literature and using descriptive statistics and semi-inductive thematic analysis. The analysis identified five categories of local food system citizen participation programs, i.e., governance committees that include citizens, citizen working groups, participatory research, participatory workshops, and citizen forums and assemblies. The review highlighted factors that influence the operation and perceived success of citizen participation initiatives. Findings underscore the importance of creating citizen participation mechanisms that are inclusive, transparent, and adaptable. Proper organization and facilitation by a dedicated local organization ensure the success of citizen engagement initiatives. The identified categories and factors can guide policymakers in designing effective local food system initiatives that enhance meaningful citizen involvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The knowledge translation movement in health has led to the production of vast amounts of knowledge tools aimed at broadening clinicians' evidence base and improving the quality and efficacy of their practices. However important, these tools, largely oriented towards biomedical and technological aspects of care, are of limited potential for addressing the complex interactions between patients' socio-economic contexts and their health. Yet health professionals frequently lack the sensitivity, knowledge and ability to incorporate approaches to poverty within their practices; this is partly due to their limited understanding of the lived experience of poverty and of the complexity of barriers underprivileged people face to achieve and maintain health. In a context of persisting social inequalities in oral health, the Montreal-based Listening to Others multi-stakeholder partnership has been engaged in developing health professional education on poverty since 2006. In this article, we describe and reflect on how service users representing the Québec antipoverty coalition, academics from University of Montreal and McGill University, representatives of Québec dental regulatory bodies and artists collaborated to produce an educational film on poverty. Project partners' specific contributions to the film script are highlighted, emphasizing their potential to enrich the health professional educator's practice knowledge base. In doing so, this article provides an explicit and concrete example of how participatory processes can support co-learning and knowledge co-production through engagement with the arts. The overall aim is to demonstrate how participatory research can enhance knowledge translation by producing educational tools that promote critical reflection and address complexity.

In 1984, in Toronto, the Healthy Cities idea was coined, soon adopted by the World Health Organization to launch, in 1986, a major international initiative. Since then, over 10, 000 municipalities worldwide have jumped in, including small rural villages, which led the movement to be called Healthy Communities in Canada. Four action principles at the core of the movement can influence the fight against poverty in rural areas: intersectorality, participation, empowerment, and municipal commitment. This article describes a collective case study involving four rural municipalities that are members of the Québec Network of Healthy Communities. This qualitative study paid detailed attention to understand how these initiatives embraced fighting poverty. Five factors to be considered emerged if rural municipalities in the Healthy Communities networks and beyond them want to address poverty concretely. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
