Given the crucial role that environmental accounting plays in sustainable development, this study investigates the relationship between climate change disclosure performance (CCDP) and financial distress as well as the moderating impact of litigation, the existence of a risk committee, the employment of Big4 auditing firms and the level of audit fees. Utilising a sample of the top 300 Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)‐listed non‐financial firms over the period 2008–2019 and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis with fixed effects, it is found that higher levels of CCDP are related to lower levels of financial distress. Additionally, the significant association between CCDP and financial distress is manifested in firms with low litigation risk, firms with a risk committee, firms that employ Big4 auditing firms and firms that incur a higher level of audit fees. Additional tests that mitigate self‐selection and endogeneity, such as propensity score matching (PSM) and the system generalised method of moments (GMM), show that our findings are robust. Finally, our findings shed light on managers' strategic behaviour in relation to the consideration of, and transparency around, climate change risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study examines the relationship between family power and corporate investment efficiency in Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) countries. Family power in firms is manifested in how much decision-making power is concentrated in the hands of family members who are active either on the board of directors, or as executives of a firm. Using a unique measure of “family power,” we contribute to a growing interest in the role of family influence in the GCC emerging markets, where firms and business practices are typically controlled by families. We find that increased family power reduces firms’ level of under- and over-investment. We assert that this relation arises because firms are able to exhibit high levels of family power through socioemotional wealth preservation in reducing both management agency costs and earnings management.

- Abstract
We re-test the intuition that investors and traders could be preoccupied with the upcoming weekend and pay less attention to Friday corporate announcements in the continuous disclosure environment of Australia. The market reaction to Friday announcements in the US, except for earnings announcements, disappears after correcting for selection bias. However, there is no evidence of investor inattention to Friday announcements in Australia, indicating that a continuous disclosure environment improves disclosure timeliness and market efficiency. The investor attention theory is significantly challenged in a unique natural setting where the potential selection bias to delay material information release to Fridays is eliminated.

- Abstract
We investigate the relationship between firm whistleblower governance and audit pricing of Australian listed financial firms over the 2008–2018 period. Consistent with agency and organisational justice theoretical tenets, we find that firms that exhibit stronger whistleblower governance incur lower audit fees. We find that the negative association between strength in whistleblower governance and firms' audit fees is more pronounced for firms that are exposed to increased litigation risk, and for firms having an anti-fraud policy. Our results are robust to endogeneity tests including difference-in-difference (DID), two-stage least squares (2SLS) and propensity score matching (PSM) analyses.

- Abstract
We investigate whether acquiring firms make more profitable acquisitions when target firms’ financial statements are more comparable with their industry peers. We replicate the original sample of Chen et al. (2018) and extend their sample to the most recent year. We find that acquiring firms experience higher announcement returns, higher acquisition synergies and better post-acquisition operating performance when acquiring targets with higher financial statement comparability. Our results are robust to the newly constructed measure of financial statement comparability, suggesting that comparable accounting information indeed facilitates the efficiency of capital allocation.

- Abstract
We investigate whether directors with multiple outside board directorships are related to corporate financial strategy across firm life cycle stages. Using a large sample of firms from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, we find that when the number of directors with multiple board seats increases, firms' level of cash holdings rises, capital expenditure declines, selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses increase, and firm performance decreases. We further demonstrate how the relationship varies across different stages of their life cycle. Our findings have significant implications for policy makers, regulators and stockholders in GCC countries and in other emerging markets.

- Abstract
We compare acquiring firms’ CEO pay with that of the highest-paid non-CEO director and investigate the influence of CEO pay disparity on takeover premiums and bidder performance. Based on a takeover sample of Australian listed targets and bidders during the 2002–2015 period, we find that takeover premiums are significantly higher if the deals are processed by acquiring firms with higher CEO pay disparity. Although these firms do not receive favourable immediate market responses to their takeover announcements, they outperform in the long run. We find no evidence that offering a large takeover premium harms shareholders’ wealth. Overall, our findings largely support efficient contracting theory in the Australian M&A context.

- Abstract
We investigate the association between the voluntary formation of a board investment committee (IC) and corporate cash holdings for a large sample of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) firms over the 2005–2013 period. We provide evidence that the existence of a specialized IC increases corporate cash holdings. We also find that several IC characteristics, i.e., member experience, independence, number of meetings, and committee size, are associated with an increase in firms’ cash holdings. Furthermore, the local and foreign institutional ownership of GCC firms moderates the IC-cash holdings relationship. These results remain robust to alternative specifications of cash holdings and endogeneity tests. We contribute to the literature on firms’ incentives to hold cash and to the literature on governance in emerging market contexts.

TAVI ,aortic stenosis - Abstract
Background: Today, degenerative aortic valve stenosis, also called aortic stenosis (AS), is the most prevalent disease of the heart valves in the Western world, and the prevalence is expected to increase with the aging population. The introduction of TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) was introduced in 2002. It has changed the management of AS fundamentally. TAVI has been established as the preferred therapeutic option for patients with severe AS who are inoperable or has a high surgical risk. Objective: The aim of the study is to give an overview on the development of TAVI, its implementation as a therapy of patients with AS, and present how the procedure has changed the indications and prognosis for this group of patients. Methods: We conducted a non-systematic search in literature in databases, registries, guidelines and books. This was supplemented with interviews with cardiologists and thoracic surgeons. Results: The search resulted in the use of 48 articles and 11 studies. Studies has shown that TAVI is non-inferior to SAVR in intermediate-risk patients. Various limitations of TAVI where found, like valve durability and function, paravalvular leak, interference in the conducting system, and differences in morbidity and mortality. Conclusions: This literature search indicates the use of TAVI in high-risk patients is supported by robust data from multiple randomized clinical trials. Ongoing trials will hopefully provide important information of the use of TAVI in intermediate-risk-, low-risk- and younger patients, and in patients with bicuspid AS. Literature indicates that we are moving in a direction of broader indications for the use of TAVI as therapy of AS.

- Abstract
CEOs are increasingly being granted options as part of their compensation packages. However, despite all of the research conducted on executive compensation, there has been little investigation into the impact of CEO stock option grants on firm performance. In addition, many previous studies have found conflicting results on the impact of equity-based compensation on performance. Our study incorporates the competitive strategy adopted by the firm into its analysis. We document that a firm’s strategy impacts the level of stock options granted to the CEO. We also found that, after controlling for a firm’s competitive strategy, the relationship between CEO stock options and firm performance is stronger than when the sample is considered on a pooled basis.

- Abstract
This paper analyses the influence of market optimism and CEO relative compensation on takeover premiums and bidder performance. Consistent with the US and UK studies, the findings reveal that bid premiums are significantly higher if the deal initiated in high market optimism. The correlation between market optimism and bidder announcement returns is significantly positive, while its association with one year and two-year post announcement returns are in an inverse direction. We evidence the insignificant difference between bid premiums offered by CEOs who are paid a high relative compensation compared with that of deals undertaken by CEOs with low relative compensation. CEOs with high relative pay experience lower short-term returns around announcement and enjoys higher returns in one year, which is in sharp contrast to other markets. In the two years’ time, the outperforming effects become marginal and insignificant. Regarding the interaction between market optimism and CEO relative compensation, higher bid premiums are observed when CEOs with high relative pay take action in high optimism market, whereas higher short-term returns and lower long-term returns are presented if CEOs with low relative compensation process a deal in a strong market. The findings support a combination of neoclassical theory, misvaluation theory, and efficient contracting to be applied in the Australian context.

- Abstract
The “Wall Street Rule” (WSR), a form of monitoring by institutional investors, has been viewed as a “cut-and-run” strategy adopted to express dissatisfaction with a company’s management. In this study, we show that WSR, far from being a passive protest, is in fact a potent weapon to improve corporate governance. We present empirical evidence that WSR is positively associated with board monitoring when the firm is endowed with an outsider-dominated board. This suggests that WSR improves stock price informativeness, providing the board with an additional source of information so that it may monitor the company more effectively.

SUPERCOOLED liquids ,DIELECTRIC relaxation - Abstract
We have measured the dielectric relaxation of several molecular organic supercooled liquids, ααβ-tris-naphthylbenzene (C[sub 36]H[sub 24] and C[sub 36]H[sub 10]D[sub 14]), squalane, and decahydroisoquinoline. The dynamics is studied in the frequency range 10[sup -2]-10[sup 7] Hz, equivalent to temperatures between T[sub g] and approximately 1.2 × T[sub g]. For the very low dielectric loss materials, a resolution of tan δ≈3 × 10[sup -5] is required in order to observe the details of the relaxation behavior. Characteristic quantities like fragility, relaxation time dispersion, time-temperature superposition, and the slow JohariGoldstein type β relaxation are among the properties discussed.
