Abstract Background Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a sudden and often reversible condition characterized by rapid kidney function reduction, posing significant risks to coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. This study focuses on developing accurate predictive models to improve the early detection and prognosis of AKI in CAD patients. Methods We used Electronic Health Records (EHRs) from a nationwide CAD registry including 54 429 patients. Initially, univariate analysis identified potential predictors. Subsequently, a stepwise multivariate logistic model integrated clinical significance and data distribution. To refine predictor selection, we applied a random forest algorithm. The top 10 variables, including admission to the surgical department, EGFR, hemoglobin, and others, were incorporated into a logistic regression-based prediction model. Model performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC) and calibration analysis, and a nomogram was developed for practical application. Results During hospitalization, 2,112 (3.88%) patients in the overall population of both the development and validation groups experienced AKI within 30 days. The final prediction model exhibited strong discrimination with an AUC of 0.867 (95% CI: 0.858 to 0.876) and well calibration capability in both the development and validation groups. Key predictors included surgical department admission, eGFR, hemoglobin, chronic kidney disease history, male sex, white blood cell count, age, left ventricular ejection fraction, acute myocardial infarction at admission, and congestive heart failure history. Bootstrap resampling confirmed model stability (Harrell's optimism-correct AUC = 0.866). The nomogram provided a practical tool for AKI risk assessment. Conclusion This study introduced a refined AKI risk prediction model for CAD patients. This model showed adaptability to subgroups and held the potential for early AKI alerts and personalized interventions, thereby enhancing patient care.

Background Vocal cord polyps are commonly encountered in the otorhinolaryngology department. The risk of anesthesia is high in patients with large vocal cord polyps. Awake intubation with appropriate airway tools provides a favorable safety profile. Case We present the case of a 60-year-old male patient who had been suffering from a large vocal cord polyp for 16 years. Electronic laryngoscopy revealed that the vocal cord polyp was approximately 1.5 cm in diameter. The polyp had a pedicle and demonstrated synchronous motion with respiratory excursion. It covered almost the entire glottic area during inspiration and moved away from the glottis during expiration. A Disposcope endoscope was used for awake tracheal intubation, and the surgery was completed successfully. Conclusions The Disposcope endoscope can be a useful option for awake orotracheal intubation in cases of anticipated difficult intubation and difficult facemask ventilation.

ABSTRACTHorizontal gene transfer (HGT) is the process through which genetic information is transferred between different genomes and that played a crucial role in bacterial evolution. HGT can enable bacteria to rapidly acquire antibiotic resistance and bacteria that have acquired resistance is spreading within the microbiome. Conventional methods of characterizing HGT patterns include short-read metagenomic sequencing (short-reads mNGS), long-read sequencing, and single-cell sequencing. These approaches present several limitations, such as short-read fragments, high amounts of input DNA, and sequencing costs, respectively. Here, we attempt to circumvent present limitations to detect HGT by developing a metagenomics co-barcode sequencing workflow (MECOS) and applying it to the human and mouse gut microbiomes. In addition to that, we have over 10-fold increased contig length compared to short-reads mNGS; we also obtained exceeding 30 million paired reads with co-barcode information. Applying the novel bioinformatic pipeline, we integrated this co-barcoding information and the context information from long reads, and observed over 50-fold HGT events after we corrected the potential wrong HGT events. Specifically, we detected approximately 3,000 HGT blocks in individual samples, encompassing ~6,000 genes and ~100 taxonomic groups, including loci conferring tetracycline resistance through ribosomal protection. MECOS provides a valuable tool for investigating HGT and advance our understanding on the evolution of natural microbial communities within hosts.IMPORTANCEIn this study, to better identify horizontal gene transfer (HGT) in individual samples, we introduce a new co-barcoding sequencing system called metagenomics co-barcoding sequencing (MECOS), which has three significant improvements: (i) long DNA fragment extraction, (ii) a special transposome insertion, (iii) hybridization of DNA to barcode beads, and (4) an integrated bioinformatic pipeline. Our results indicate the presence of approximately 3,000 HGT blocks, involving roughly 6,000 genes and 100 taxonomic groups in individual samples. MECOS is a useful tool for investigating HGT and the evolution of natural microbial communities within hosts, thereby advancing our understanding of microbial ecology and evolution.

The proton exchange membrane fuel cell gas control has been one key point in fuel cell management systems. The complexity and coupling of the air management system make it difficult to achieve precise air intake adjustment. In this paper, an accurate joint control method for the air flow and pressure regulation is proposed. The nonlinear mathematical model of the air management system is developed to describe the output characteristic and state change. Based on this, the feedback linearization method is proposed to obtain the direct correspondence between control variables and controlled variables. In addition, to solve the problem that the controlled variables cannot be measured directly, an extended state observer is applied to estimate the stack cathode pressure. The sliding mode predictive control method is proposed to control the oxygen excess ratio and cathode pressure simultaneously. The relative order of the system is used to design the sliding mode surface, and the corresponding predictive model is proposed. The results obtained by simulation experiments show that pressure and mass flow have little effect on each other through decoupling. The proposed algorithm has been verified to have high precision, fast response, and robustness through comparative experiments.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the obesity preventing or relieving effect of insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) from Pleurotus eryngii through its modulations on intestinal microbiota. The IDF was extracted and structurally characterized through FTIR, X-Ray and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The mice for in vivo experiments were divided into obesity preventing group (feeding high-fat diet while gavage IDF simultaneously) and obesity relieving group (IDF intervention after the establishment of the obese model) to evaluate its hypolipidemic effect. Results: The yield of P. eryngii IDF extracts was 56.49% (on P. eryngii dry weight base) with IDF content of 85.15% in the extracts. The in vivo results showed that the body weight of the obesity-preventing groups was still increasing after intervention with IDF, but the growth rate was lowered, and the abnormal lipid metabolism and inflammation syndromes were alleviated; the acetic acid content of the medium and low dose dietary fiber intervention groups was significantly higher than that of the normal group, and the structure of the intestinal flora was improved. The mice weight from the obesity-relieving group decreased significantly. The abnormal lipid metabolism and inflammation were alleviated. In conclusion, The IDF intervention decreased the abnormal lipid metabolism and inflammation in both obesity-preventing and relieving experiments. The intestinal flora structure was obviously improved. P. eryngii IDF is a good candidate as hypolipidemic agent.

Abstract Background There has been controversy about how obesity affects the clinical prognosis for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), and the relationship between obesity and outcomes in critically ill patients with AF remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between obesity and short- and medium-term mortality in critically ill patients with AF. Methods The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database was used to conduct a retrospective cohort analysis on 9282 critically ill patients with AF. Patients were categorized into four groups based on their body mass index (BMI) values: underweight, normal-weight, overweight, and obese. The outcomes of this study were 30-day, 90-day, and 1-year all-cause mortality. Cox proportional-hazards models and restricted cubic spline analyses were performed to investigate the association between BMI and mortality. Results For 30-day mortality, after adjustment for all confounding factors, the hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) for the underweight, overweight, and obese categories were 1.58 (1.21, 2.07), 0.82 (0.72, 0.93), and 0.79 (0.68, 0.91), respectively, compared to the normal-weight category. Using multivariable-adjusted restricted cubic spline analysis, an “L-shaped” correlation was observed between BMI and 30-day mortality. Abstract Background This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the association between red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RAR) and in-hospital mortality in patients with sepsis and atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods Data were obtained from the Medical Information Mart for the Intensive Care Database IV database version 1.0. Multivariate Cox regression models, curve-fitting, and Kaplan–Meier analyses were performed to determine the correlation between RAR and in-hospital mortality in patients with sepsis and AF. Results This study included 3042 patients with sepsis and AF. Confounding variables were adjusted for in the Multivariable Cox regression analysis models. The development of power batteries has driven the popularity of electric vehicles (EVs). For EV, charging management directly affects battery pack performance and vehicle portability. In this paper, a multi-stage constant current charging mode considering the temperature rise, health loss, and charging time is proposed. Based on the equivalent circuit model, thermal model and aging empirical model of the battery, the objective function of charging optimization is constructed. The solution is solved by with different optimization algorithms. A comparative analysis of the different solutions on the Pareto front is performed, and the optimization results show that the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) results are significantly better than the non-dominated sorting moth flame optimization (NSMFO). Finally, comparing the optimization results with the conventional constant current (CC) charging method shows that the charging optimization algorithm proposed in this work is able to reduce health loss and temperature rise. Although, there is a mutually binding relationship between charging time, temperature rise and health loss. However, the best charging optimization can be obtained on the Pareto front according to different charging requirements.

Introduction In the Chinese healthcare system, where there is overcrowding in hospitals, especially in tertiary care centres, adoption of same-day discharge (SDD) post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) could potentially lead to significant savings of healthcare resources and costs. This study is a non-inferiority trial examining whether post-PCI SDD is feasible in China. The primary hypothesis is that patient outcomes in post-urgent PCI SDD patients are non-inferior to regular discharge patients.Methods and analysis Post-Urgent PCI Same-DaY is an investigator-initiated multicentre randomised unblinded clinical non-inferiority trial, with 1:1 centralised randomisation to the SDD or usual care (UC) group. Based on sample size calculations, 1296 patients from at least three hospitals, with mild to moderate myocardial infarction, will be included, and acute coronary syndrome patients will be excluded. All patients will receive UC while patients assigned to the SDD group will be discharged on the same day or within 12 hours post-PCI. The primary outcome is major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events 30 days after discharge. The secondary outcomes are all-cause mortality, bleeding and access site complications. The outcome rates will be compared between groups with the absolute risk difference with a 95% CI.Ethics and dissemination The study protocol V.2.0 has been approved on 21 January 2022 by the Ethics Committee of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University (approval number: 2021 KLSD No. 23). Engineered cementitious composites (ECC) is an ultra-durable construction material owing to its high tensile ductility and intrinsic crack width control. Here, a high-early-strength ECC (HE-ECC) was developed using calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement with high-volume fly ash to facilitate rapid and sustainable repair application. Two water-to-binder ratios (0.25 and 0.35) and four fly ash dosages (50–80 wt% by binder mass) were investigated, and PVA fiber was added at 1.5 vol%. The composite mechanical properties were analyzed in association with the early hydration process. At 1 day, the HE-ECC was found to attain a tensile strain capacity of 3–4% while maintaining an ultimate tensile strength of 2–5 MPa. Most groups can maintain a tensile strain capacity over 3% at 28 days with an ultimate tensile strength of 3.1–5.4 MPa. The environmental impacts for producing HE-ECC can be reduced significantly, accounting for ∼38.7% less energy and ∼44.6% less carbon emission compared to conventional ECC. The satisfying early age mechanical performance makes it applicable for many constructions and the high sustainability of HE-ECC makes it promising to reduce environmental impacts substantially.

Quantitative seismic methods are crucial for understanding shale gas reservoirs. This study introduces a dynamic adaptive rock physics model (DARPM) designed to systematically quantify the relationship between physical parameters and elastic parameters within shale formations. The DARPM uniquely adapts to changes in formation dip angle, allowing adaptive reservoir property assessment. An innovative adaptive rock physics inversion methodology is subsequently proposed to compute values for reservoir physical and seismic anisotropy parameters. This is achieved using well log data and building upon the foundation laid by the established DARPM. We introduce the RPM-FCNN (rock physics model—fully connected neural network) framework, seamlessly integrating the DARPM with the corresponding inversion results into a comprehensive model. This framework facilitates a quantitative analysis of the nonlinear relationship between elastic and reservoir physical parameters. Utilizing the trained RPM-FCNN framework, the spatial distribution of reservoir and seismic anisotropic characteristics can be precisely characterized. Within this framework, the organic matter mixture aspect ratio indicates the continuity of organic matter, while the organic matter porosity reveals the maturity of organic matter. Simultaneously, seismic anisotropy characteristics signify the degree of stratification within the reservoirs. This method, therefore, establishes a robust foundation for identifying favorable areas within shale gas reservoirs.

To better understand the latest developments in global science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education research, this study collected STEM education research materials to sort out the development of STEM education as a whole, so as to get a clearer path and trend of STEM education development. This study conducted a visualization and quantitative analysis of the literature on STEM education research in Science Citation Index Extended (SCI-E) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) using the CiteSpace (5.8.R3) tool. First, the basic information of STEM education was analyzed in terms of annual publication volume, authors, countries, and research institutions. Secondly, the main fields, basic contents and research hotspots of this research were analyzed by keyword co-occurrence and keyword time zone mapping. Finally, the research frontiers and development trends are presented through co-citation clustering and high-frequency keyword bursts. The research hotspots are focused on engineering education, teachers’ professional development, and gender differences. The research frontiers are mainly related to teacher professional development, 21st century skills, early childhood creativity, and gender differences. This study systematically analyzes the latest developments in global STEM education research, which is beneficial for readers to understand the full picture of STEM education research so that researchers can conduct more in-depth studies and promote better development of STEM education. The number of analyzed literature is limited. We only analyzed articles from SSCI and SCI-E databases, and the articles were written in English. In addition, we only analyzed the literature and lacked empirical studies on the findings of the literature.

As chatter vibration in the roll grinding process is the largest limitation in the surface quality of the machined roll. In this paper, the bistability analysis and chatter suppression are performed for further discussion of patterns of the grinding chatter to reduce the cost of enterprises. A new three degrees of freedom dynamic model with both the regenerative effect and nonlinear stiffness of grindstone indicated by Duffing oscillator is presented, and its availability is validated by the experiment. By means of the DDE-BIFTOOL, a numerical calculation package, the effect of process parameters on grinding stability is studied extensively, proving that a large grinding width worsens the stability in roll grinding and the parameters located in unsafe areas should be avoided for a stable grinding operation in practice. In addition, the control techniques involving both the nonlinear velocity feedback and the chaos perturbation are proposed for the suppression of chatter vibration in grinding operation to decrease the amplitude of its vibration. The results show that these techniques give a significant performance for reducing the amplitude of chatter vibration, namely, the stability of the grinding process is augmented, which gives a new idea for firms in chatter suppression.

BackgroundSepsis remains the leading cause of postoperative death in elderly patients and is defined as organ dysfunction with proven or suspected infection according to Sepsis-3 criteria. To better avoid potential non-linear associations between the risk factors, we firstly used a tree-based analytic methods to explore the putative risk factors of geriatric sepsis based on the criteria in the study.MethodsData of 7,302 surgical patients aged ≥ 65 years at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2015 to September 2020 were collected. An analytic method that combined tree-based analysis with the method of Mantel-Haenszel and logistic regression was adopted to assess the association between 17 putative risk factors and postoperative sepsis defined by the Sepsis-3 guideline by controlling 16 potential confounding factors.ResultsAmong the 16 potential covariates, six major confounders were statistically identified by the tree-based model, including cerebrovascular diseases, preoperative infusion of red blood cells, pneumonia, age ≥ 75, malignant tumor and diabetes. Our analysis indicated that emergency surgery increases the risk of postoperative sepsis in elderly patients by more than six times. The type of surgery is also a crucial risk factor for sepsis, particularly transplantation and neurosurgery. Other risk factors were duration of surgery > 120 min, administration of steroids, hypoalbuminemia, elevated creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, hematocrit, platelets, glucose, white blood cell count, abnormal neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and elevated hsCRP-to-albumin ratio.ConclusionsOur study uses an effective method to explore some risk factors for postoperative sepsis in elderly by adjusting many potential confounders and it can provide information for intervention design.

ABSTRACT Populus euphratica Oliv. has a high tolerance for drought, salinity, and alkalinity. The main purpose of this study is to explore the effects of environments of different salinity intensities on endophytic community structure and the possible roles of endophytes in the tolerance of host plants. The characterization of endogenous bacteria in diversity has been investigated by using the Illumina high-throughput sequencing technique. The research showed that endophytic bacteria of P. euphratica in an extremely saline environment had low species diversity, especially in sap tissue. The dominant phyla in all groups were Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes. Notably, Firmicutes (relative abundance >5%) was a different dominant phylum in the samples from the high-saline environment compared with the relatively low-saline-environment group. The linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) analysis found that there were significant differences in different saline environments of Cytophagaceae (family), Rhodobacteraceae (family), and Rhodobacterales (order). These results indicated that the composition of the endogenous bacterial community was related to the growth environment of host plants. The predictive analysis of KEGG pathways and enzymes showed that the abundance of some enzymes and metabolic pathways of endophytes of P. euphratica increased with the increase of soil salinity, and most of the enzymes were related to energy metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism. These findings suggested that the endogenous bacteria of the host plant had different expression mechanisms under different degrees of stress, and this mechanism was very obvious in the distribution of endophytes, while the function of the endogenous bacteria needs to be further explored. IMPORTANCE Euphrates poplar (Populus euphratica Oliv.), as the only tree species that grows in the desert, has tenacious vitality with the characteristics of cold tolerance, drought tolerance, salt-alkali tolerance, and wind-sand resistance. P. euphratica has a long growth cycle and a high growth rate, which can break wind, fix sand, green the environment, and protect farmland, making it an important afforestation tree species in arid and semiarid areas. The area of P. euphratica in Xinjiang accounts for 91.1% of its area in China. Studying the endophytic bacteria of P. euphratica can give people a systematic understanding of it and the adaptability of the endogenous flora to the host and special environments. In this study, by analyzing the endophytic bacteria of P. euphratica in different saline-alkali regions of Xinjiang, it was found that the bacteria in different tissues of P. euphratica changed with the change of soil salinity. Especially in the sap tissue of P. euphratica under extremely high salinity, the diversity of endogenous bacteria was significantly lower than that in other tissues. These differential bacteria under different salinities were mostly related to the stress resistance of themselves and the host. Not only that, we also selected a strain of Bacillus with high stress resistance from the tissues of P. euphratica, which can survive under the extreme conditions of 10% NaCl and pH 11. We obtained a genome completion map of this strain, named it Bacillus haynesii P19 (GenBank accession no. PRJNA648288), and tried to use it for fermentation but in a different work, so as to develop it into a promising industrial fermentation chassis bacterium. Therefore, this study was of great significance for the understanding of endophytic bacteria in P. euphratica and the acquisition of extremophilic microbial resources.

The Hippo pathway regulates cancer biology in many aspects and the crosstalk with other pathways complicates its role. Accumulated evidence has shown that the bidirectional interactions between tumor cells and tumor microenvironment (TME) are the premises of tumor occurrence, development, and metastasis. The relationship among different components of the TME constitutes a three-dimensional network. We point out the core position of the Hippo pathway in this network and discuss how the regulatory inputs cause the chain reaction of the network. We also discuss the important role of Hippo-TME involvement in cancer treatment.

The signal-induced proliferation-associated 1-like 3 (SIPA1L3) gene that encodes a putative Rap GTPase-activating protein (RapGAP) has been associated with congenital cataract and eye development abnormalities. However, our current understanding of the mutation spectrum of SIPA1L3 associated with eye defects is limited. By using whole-exome sequencing plus Sanger sequencing validation, we identified a novel heterozygous c.1871A > G (p.Lys624Arg) variation within the predicted RapGAP domain of SIPA1L3 in the proband with isolated juvenile-onset cataracts from a three-generation Chinese family. In this family, the proband's father and grandmother were also heterozygous for the c.1871A > G variation and affected by cataracts varying in morphology, severity, and age of onset. Sequence alignment shows that the Lys 624 residue of SIPA1L3 is conserved across the species. Based on the resolved structure of Rap1–Rap1GAP complex, homology modeling implies that the Lys 624 residue is structurally homologous to the Lys 194 of Rap1GAP, a highly conserved lysine residue that is involved in the interface between Rap1 and Rap1GAP and critical for the affinity to Rap·GTP. We reasoned that arginine substitution of lysine 624 might have an impact on the SIPA1L3-Rap·GTP interaction, thereby affecting the regulatory function of SIPA1L3 on Rap signaling. Collectively, our finding expands the mutation spectrum of SIPA1L3 and provides new clues to the molecular mechanisms of SIPA1L3-related cataracts. Further investigations are warranted to validate the functional alteration of the p.Lys624Arg variant of SIPA1L3.

Human microbiota influence the response of malignancies to treatment with immune checkpoint blockade; however, their impact on other forms of immunotherapy is poorly understood. This study explored the effect of blood microbiota on clinical efficacy, represented by progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), of combined chemotherapy and adoptive cellular therapy (ACT) in advanced colon cancer patients. Plasma was collected from colorectal cancer patients (CRC) treated with either chemotherapy alone (oxaliplatin and capecitabine) (XELOX CT alone group, n = 19), or ACT with a mixed dendritic cell/cytokine-induced killer cell product (DC-CIK) + XELOX (ICT group, n = 20). Circulating microbiota analysis was performed by PCR amplification and next-generation sequencing of variable regions V3~V4 of bacterial 16S rRNA genes. The association of the blood microbial diversity with clinical response to the therapy as measured by RECIST1.1 and OS was evaluated. The baseline Chao index of blood microbial diversity predicted prolonged PFS and OS of DC/CIK immunotherapy. More diverse blood microbiota that included Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Enterococcus were identified among responders to DC/CIK compared with non-responders. The plasma bacterial DNA copy number is inversely correlated with the CD3−/CD16+/CD56+ NK cells in circulation and decreased following DC-CIK; however, the Chao index of plasma microbiota significantly increased after administration of the DC-CIK product and this subsequent change was correlated with the number of CD3−/CD16+/CD56+ and CD8+/CD28+ cells infused. The diversity of the blood microbiome is a promising predictive marker for clinical responses to chemotherapy combined with DC-CIK. Cellular immunotherapy can affect the plasma microbiota’s diversity in a manner favorable to clinical responses.

Abstract There is large uncertainty in the future regional sea level change under anthropogenic climate change. Our study presents and uses a novel design of ocean general circulation model (OGCM) experiments to investigate the ocean's response to surface buoyancy and momentum flux perturbations without atmosphere‐ocean feedbacks (e.g., without surface restoring or bulk formulae), as part of the Flux‐Anomaly‐Forced Model Intercomparison Project (FAFMIP). In an ensemble of OGCMs forced with identical surface flux perturbations, simulated dynamic sea level (DSL) and ocean heat content (OHC) change demonstrate considerable disagreement. In the North Atlantic, the disagreement in DSL and OHC change between models is mainly due to differences in the residual (resolved and eddy) circulation change, with a large spread in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) weakening (20–50%). In the western North Pacific, OHC change is similar among the OGCM ensemble, but the contributing physical processes differ. For the Southern Ocean, isopycnal and diapycnal mixing change dominate the spread in OHC change. In addition, a component of the atmosphere‐ocean feedbacks are quantified by comparing coupled, atmosphere‐ocean GCM (AOGCM) and OGCM FAFMIP experiments with consistent ocean models. We find that there is 10% more AMOC weakening in AOGCMs relative to OGCMs, since the extratropical North Atlantic SST cooling due to heat redistribution amplifies the surface heat flux perturbation. This component of the atmosphere‐ocean feedbacks enhances the pattern of North Atlantic OHC and DSL change, with relatively stronger increases and decreases in the tropics and extratropics, respectively.

The constant current condition and the dynamic stress test (DST) condition were carried out to analyze the battery discharging and charging features. The datasets were achieved at room temperature, in April, 2016. The shared data contributes to clarify the battery pack state-of-charge (SOC) and the battery inconsistency, which is also shown in the article of “An on-line estimation of battery pack parameters and state-of-charge using dual filters based on pack model” (X. Zhang, Y. Wang, D. Yang, et al., 2016) [1].

OBJECTIVE: Adiponectin receptor 1 (encoded by ADIPOR1) is one of the major adiponectin receptors, and plays an important role in glucose and lipid metabolism. However, few studies have reported simultaneous associations between ADIPOR1 variants and type 2 diabetes (T2D), coronary artery disease (CAD) and T2D with CAD. Based on the "common soil" hypothesis, we investigated whether ADIPOR1 polymorphisms contributed to the etiology of T2D, CAD, or T2D with CAD in a Northern Han Chinese population. METHODS: Our multi-disease comparison study enrolled 657 subjects, including 165 with T2D, 173 with CAD, 174 with both T2D and CAD (T2D+CAD), and 145 local healthy controls. Six ADIPOR1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped and their association with disease risk was analyzed. RESULTS: Multi-case-control comparison identified two ADIPOR1 variants: rs3737884-G, which was simultaneously associated with an increased risk of T2D, CAD, and T2D+CAD (P-value range, 9.80×10(-5)-6.30×10(-4); odds ratio (OR) range: 1.96-2.42) and 16850797-C, which was separately associated with T2D and T2D+CAD (P-value range: 0.007-0.014; OR range: 1.71-1.77). The risk genotypes of both rs3737884 and 16850797 were consistently associated with common metabolic phenotypes in all three diseases (P-value range: 4.81×10(-42)-0.001). We observed an increase in the genetic dose-dependent cumulative risk with increasing risk allele numbers in T2D, CAD and T2D+CAD (P trend from 1.35×10(-5)-0.002). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that ADIPOR1 risk polymorphisms are a strong candidate for the "common soil" hypothesis and could partially contribute to disease susceptibility to T2D, CAD, and T2D with CAD in the Northern Han Chinese population.

Supercapacitors have become promising energy storage devices owing to their high power density and fast charging capability. Herein, we synthesized GaN nanowires coated with MoS2 nanosheets on graphite paper by chemical vapor deposition and explored their electrochemical properties. Both GaN nanowire and MoS2-coated GaN composite nanowire electrodes exhibit Faradaic behaviors from redox reactions. The MoS2-coated GaN composite nanowire electrodes show enhanced electrochemical activities with a capacity of 173.4 mC cm-2 at 1 mA cm-2. Thin MoS2 nanosheets are quasi-perpendicularly grown onto the GaN nanowire surface, which prevents their aggregation. The coupling of MoS2 nanosheets with GaN nanowire enables a high surface area and provides channels to facilitate ion diffusion. In this work, we demonstrate the GaN-MoS2 composite nanowires as potential flexible battery-type electrode materials in wearable electronics and sustainable energy applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
