Abstract

Experimental data illustrates how thermoelastic temperature data can be used to establish point-to-point strain components. This is accomplished by applying the apparent influences of thermal conduction on the cyclic surface temperature changes which occur when a composite material experiences oscillating stress. The adiabatic heat produced in the various plies can be established by monitoring the variations in cyclic surface temperature for various loading frequencies.

6. Analysis of thermal conduction effects on thermoelastic temperature measurements for composite materials

Abstract

The effects of thermal conduction on the surface temperature changes for composite materials are studied. Experiments are performed wherein composite material specimens are subjected to surface stress fields using a servohydraulic testing machine. The temperature measurements are obtained by means of an infrared detectors. A mathematical model is then developed to analyze the thermal conduction within the materials. The results show very good agreement with experimental data for a composite material specimen, with and without a surface layer epoxy.

Abstract

A modified genetic algorithm is proposed for aircraft structure identification mathematical models. The algorithm was applied to an aerospace airtrainer CT4 tailplane which features a traditional aluminum structure with two ribs, spars and a riveted skin. The algorithm proved to be efficient in determining the structural properties of aircraft components in a finite element model.
