- Abstract
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin film have attracted wide interest as photovoltaic, dielectric and photocatalytic material. In this study, the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method was used to fabricate TiO2 thin films because of its low-cost operation, absence of vacuum system and convenience of use. The films were sprayed from solution containing titanium(IV)isopropoxide, acetylacetone and ethanol onto microscopy glass and n-type Si(100) substrates at temperatures of 200 to 500 degC. The resulting films were annealed at 500 degC and 700 degC for 1 hour in air. In the present study, optical, structural and electrical properties of produced TiO2 thin films were investigated as a function of deposition temperature. TiO2 films deposited [?] 400 degC show optical transmittance of ca. 80% in the visible region. The band gap of TiO2 films decreased from 3.52 to 3.25 eV as the deposition temperature increased from 200 to 500 degC. As-deposited films prepared below 500 degC were amorphous, whereas crystalline anatase films were obtained at 500 degC. Further annealing at 700 degC in air led to anatase crystalline formation when films were deposited below 500 degC whereas the films deposited at 500 degC consist of anatase and rutile phases.

3. Effect of Growth Hormone Treatment on Growth Rates in Patients With Growth Hormone Deficiency, Idiopathic Short Stature, and Small for Gestational Age.

- Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to determine the response to growth hormone (GH) therapy of patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD), idiopathic short stature (ISS), and small for gestational age (SGA)., Materials and Methods: The data of the 202 children who received GH treatment were analyzed retrospectively. Laboratory parameters, puberty stages, annual growth rates, body mass index (BMI), GH side effects, target height (TH), estimated adult height (EAH), and bone age (BA) were obtained during the GH treatment period., Results: Out of 202 cases, 121 were girls (59.9%) and 81 were boys. Among these cases, 69 (34.1%) had partial growth hormone deficiency (PGHD), 43 (21.2%) had complete growth hormone deficiency (CGHD), 37 (18.3%) had ISS, and 53 (26.2%) were born SGA. The average age at the onset of treatment was 11.2±2.67 years. The height standard deviation score (SDS), height velocity, and predicted adult height (PAH) of the patients with PGHD, CGHD, and SGA values were significantly higher than ISS patients at the end of the third year of a similar dose of GH treatment. The highest growth velocity was determined in the group with CGHD, while the lowest height velocity was found in patients with ISS during three years of the treatment., Conclusion: It was determined that GH treatment is an efficient and reliable therapy method for improving short stature in patients with PGHD, CGHD, ISS, and SGA. 4. The Efficiency of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) Elastography in the Differentiation of Renal Cell Carcinoma and Oncocytoma.

- Abstract
Purpose: This study is to investigate the effectiveness of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) elastography in differentiating radiologically similar renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and oncocytoma in solid masses of the kidney., Methods: The patients with solid renal mass histopathological diagnosed after excision or tru-cat biopsy who underwent a preoperative ARFI elastography of the lesion during a 4-year period were included in this study. Preoperative shear wave velocity (SWV) values were measured in all the lesions. SWV results of RCCs and oncocytomas were compared by an independent t-test, and cut-off, sensitivity and specificity values were calculated., Results: Forty-two of the 60 patients included in the study were men (70%) and, 18 were women (30%), and the mean age was 59.7 ± 14 (27-94) years. Among 46 RCCs (76.6%), 23 and 14 oncocytomas, 5 (23.4%) were located in the right kidney (p:0.34722). Mean SWV values were found to be significantly higher in RCCs (2.87± 0.74 (0.96-4.14) m/s) than oncocytomas (1.83 ± 0.78 (0.80-3.76) m/s) (p <0.001). In the ROC analysis, a cutoff value of 2.29 m/s was found to havean 80.4% sensitivity and a 78.6% specificity for the discrimination of RCCs from oncocytomas., Conclusion: ARFI elastography measurements may be useful in distinguishing RCC and oncocytomas that may have similar solid radiological imaging features., (Copyright© Bentham Science Publishers; For any queries, please email at epub@benthamscience.net.)

5. Prevalence and Predictive Clinical Characteristics of Metabolically Healthy Obesity in Obese Children and Adolescents.

- Abstract
Background: The increasing prevalence of childhood obesity and accompanying comorbidities all over the world constitutes one of the most important public health problems of the changing world. The frequency and causes of the metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) phenotype in children is not clear., Objective: The objective is to determine the prevalence of the MHO phenotype in obese Turkish children and adolescents and to identify clinical and biochemical indicators for this phenotype., Methods: Eight hundred forty-seven obese children and adolescents, aged 3-18 years with BMI-SDS >+2 SD from the obesity outpatient clinic were included. Demographic, anthropometric, and physical examination information was collected from patient medical files. In addition, obesity-related comorbidities and results of laboratory tests were obtained. For study purposes, obese patients with no cardiometabolic risk factors were accepted as MHO, and those with ≥1 cardiometabolic risk factor were considered metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO). MHO was defined according to Damanhoury's criteria., Results: Out of 847 children (mean age 10.6±3.4 years) who met the study criteria, 289 (34.1%) were diagnosed with MHO. Being younger, prepubertal, having relatively low BMI, low waist/hip ratio, low insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index, high high-density lipoprotein, low triglyceride, low fasting insulin and glucose levels, low uric acid and low alanine transaminase (ALT) levels were associated with MHO., Conclusions: The MHO phenotype was present in just over a third of this obese pediatric cohort. 6. Comparison of developmental outcomes in children with permanent and transient congenital hypothyroidism.

- Abstract
Objectives: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is still one of the most common causes of preventable cognitive impairment in children, and its early detection and treatment prevent irreversible neurodevelopmental delay. Depending on the underlying cause, cases with CH may be transient or permanent. This study aimed to compare the developmental evaluation results of transient and permanent CH patients and to reveal any differences., Methods: A total of 118 patients with CH, who were followed up jointly in pediatric endocrinology and developmental pediatrics clinics, were included. The patients' progress was evaluated per the International Guide for Monitoring Child Development (GMCD)., Results: Of the cases, 52 (44.1%) were female, and 66 (55.9%) were male. While 20 (16.9%) cases were diagnosed with permanent CH, 98 (83.1%) were diagnosed with transient CH. According to the results of the developmental evaluation made with GMCD, the development of 101 (85.6%) children was compatible with their age, while 17 (14.4%) children had delays in at least one developmental area. All 17 patients had a delay in expressive language. Developmental delay was detected in 13 (13.3%) of those with transient CH and 4 (20%) with permanent CH., Conclusions: There is difficulty in expressive language in all cases of CH with developmental delay. No significant difference was found between the developmental evaluations of permanent and transient CH cases. The results revealed the importance of developmental follow-up, early diagnosis and interventions in those children. Context: 17α-Hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency (17OHD) is characterized by decreased sex steroids and cortisol synthesis, as well as an increased mineralocorticoid effect., Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical, biochemical, and molecular characteristics of patients with 17OHD and to discuss the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up process., Methods: Age, symptoms, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, and hormonal, biochemical, and chromosomal analysis results of 13 patients diagnosed with 17OHD between 2003 and 2022 were recorded at admission and during follow-up. Whole gene next-generation sequencing was performed for the CYP17A1 gene. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification was used to detect deletions in patients without point mutations in CYP17A1., Results: The median age at diagnosis was 14.0 (3.5-16.8) years. Nine of 13 patients (69.2%) had 46,XY karyotypes. All patients were phenotypically female and were raised as girls. The most common reasons for admission were the absence of puberty and amenorrhea (n = 8, 61.5%), followed by hypertension (n = 3, 23.0%), and family screening (n = 2, 15.3%). At the time of diagnosis, hypertension was detected in 10 (76.9%) patients, and 11 (84.6%) patients had hypokalemia., Conclusions: 17OHD should be considered in patients with pubertal delay/primary amenorrhea, hypertension, and hypokalemia. Adrenal function should be included in the clinical study of hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, after excluding Turner syndrome, in all 46,XX females. Background: Determining the nature of purely cystic hepatic lesions is essential because different kinds have different follow-ups, treatment options, and complications., Purpose: To explore the potential of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) for the differentiation of type I hydatid cysts (HC) and simple liver cysts (SLC), which have similar radiological appearances., Material and Methods: This single-center prospective study was conducted during 2016-2019. Round, homogenous, anechoic liver cysts >1 cm were classified according to at least two years of imaging follow-up, radiological features, serology, as well as puncture aspiration injection reaspiration procedure and pathology results. ADC values of 95 cysts (50 type I HCs and 45 SLCs) were calculated on DWI. The differences in ADC values were analyzed by independent t-test., Results: Of 51 patients, 28 were female, 23 were male (mean age 32.07 ± 22.95 years; age range 5-82 years). Mean diameter of 45 SLCs was 2.59 ± 1.23 cm (range 1.2-7.6 cm) and ADC
mean value was 3.03 ± 0.47 (range 2.64-5.85) while mean diameter of 50 type I HCs was 7.49 ± 2.95 cm (range 2.8-14 cm) and ADCmean value was 2.99 ± 0.29 (range 2.36-3.83). There was no statistically significant difference in ADC values between type I HCs and SLCs., Conclusion: Some studies report that ADC values of type I HCs are statistically significantly lower than those of SLCs. Others suggest no significant difference. In our study with a higher number of cases, using ADC parameters similar to those in previous studies, we did not find any statistically significant difference.- Published

9. The Effects of Exercise Prescription on Aerobic Performance and Quality of Life During the Course of Lymphoma Chemotherapy: Results of a Prospective Controlled Study.

Background and Aim: This study is designed to investigate the physical, psychological and quality of life (QoL) effects of a 16 week supervised and structured intensive aerobic and strength training during the first line chemotherapy of lymphomas., Patients and Methods: This pre-post study with two groups enrolled ≥18 years of age lymphoma patients scheduled for the first line chemotherapy. Eligible patients were assigned upon patients' preference either to control group (Group C) involving simple counselling, or intervention group (Group I) involving supervised intensive training. Baseline, interim and final evaluations were performed per protocol. Repeated measures analysis of variance was used to investigate the effect of intervention., Results: The mean age of 47 enrolled patients was 44 [standard deviation (SD) ± 17] and 27 (57.4%) of them were male. Patients in Group C (n = 19) and Group I (n = 28) had similar baseline characteristics. T
max was significantly higher in Group I (P = .03) without a significant change during the study course (P = .98). Significant increases were observed in the power of some muscle groups, irrespective of the intervention type. The mean adherence rates were 83.0% (SD ± 22.0) and 54.0% (SD ± 23.0); the discontinuation rates were 10.7% (n = 3) and 42.9% (n = 12), at interim and final evaluations, respectively., Conclusion: Both supervised and structured schemes and simple counselling, prevent further muscle wasting and lead to modest improvements in aerobic performance and muscle strength during lymphoma chemotherapy. Abstract: Hydatid cyst (HC) is a parasitic disease that is endemic particularly to the sheep-breeding regions of the world, our country included. Given their propensity to materialize most commonly in the liver, our study evaluates the value of ultrasound elastography in the differential diagnosis of simple cyst and type I HCs of the liver.The study involved a total of 73 cysts (22 simple cysts, 51 type I HCs) that were removed using the puncture aspiration injection reaspiration technique between 2016 and 2018. All measurements were made using a Siemens ACUSON S2000 (Siemens Healthcare, Erlangen, Germany) device with a 4-MHZ 4C1 convex probe, an acoustic radiation force impulse elastography procedure, and a Virtual Touch IQ option. The difference between the mean shearwave elastography (SWE) values of both groups was analyzed with an independent t test.Of the 70 patients involved in the study, 29 were female and 41 were male, with a mean ± SD age of 38.85 ± 17.62 years (range, 5-82 years). Upon the examination of the 22 simple cysts and the 51 HCs, the mean ± SD SWE values were found to be 2.6 ± 0.96 (0.96-4.25) and 2.8 ± 1.69 (0.66-4.84), respectively. No statistically significant difference was identified between the SWE values of type I HCs and simple cysts (P > 0.005).Although HCs and simple cysts had similar radiological appearances, and a relative difference was noted in the differentiation of the elastographic measurements, this difference was not statistically significant. Objective: To investigate phenotype-genotype correlations in Turkish children with glucokinase gene mutations leading to Maturity-onset diabetes in young (GCK-MODY)., Methods: Retrospective analysis of 40 patients (16 girls) aged under 18 with GCK-MODY., Results: Mean (SD) serum fasting blood glucose level was 6.79 (0.59) mmol/L and the mean (SD) HbA1c level at diagnosis was 6.3% (0.5). Sixteen different variations were detected in the GCK genes of the 40 cases; 33 missense mutations, 6 deletions, and one nonsense mutation. The birthweight of infants with deletion mutation was significantly lower than that of infants with other mutations [2460 (353.66) g vs 2944.11 (502.08) g]., Conclusion: GCK-MODY patients with deletion mutation inherited from mothers had lower birthweight and higher fasting blood glucose than those with other inherited mutations but similar HbA1c values.

12. Three-dimensional computed tomographic examination of pelvic cavity in Van Cats and its morphometric investigation.

- Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the morphometric values of the pelvic cavity, the cranial and caudal pelvic aperture by three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the images obtained by computed tomography in adult Van Cats and to show the differences between these indicators in both genders. A total of 16 adult Van Cats, eight male and eight female, were used in the study. Animals were anesthetized with ketamine-xylazine combination and were scanned by computerized tomography. Images of the pelvic cavity were obtained. Three-dimensional reconstruction of the pelvis was performed with three-dimensional modelling program. Measurements of the diameters of the pelvic cavity, the cranial and caudal pelvic aperture were calculated from these images, and statistical analyzes were performed. Three-dimensional modelling of the pelvic cavity of Van Cats were examined between males and females. The results showed that there were significant (p < .05) differences between measurement of the pelvic inclination, the medial transverse diameter, the caudal transverse diameter and the angle between ischiatic arch. In addition, the correlations between age and weight were found statistically significant (p < .05) with the dorsal transverse diameter, the intermediate transverse diameter and the caudal transverse diameter in males. On the other hand, the correlations of age were statistically significant (p < .01) with the cranial pelvic aperture and the caudal pelvic aperture in females. - Abstract
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder due to presence of mutations in the genes involved in the metabolism of steroid hormones in adrenal gland. There are two main forms of CAH, classic form and non-classic form. While classic form stands for the severe form, the non-classic form stands for the moderate and more frequent form of CAH. The enzyme deficiencies such as 21-hydroxylase, 11-beta-hydroxylase, 3-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, 17-alpha-hydroxylase deficiencies are associated with CAH. In this study, we aimed to investigate CYP21A2, CYP11B1, HSD3B2 genes which are associated with 21-hydroxylase, 11-beta-hydroxylase and 3-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzyme deficiencies, respectively, in 365 individuals by using Sanger sequencing method. We emphasized the classification of variants according their disease causing potential, and evaluated variants' frequencies including newly discovered novel variants. As a result, 32 variants of CYP21A2 including 10 novel variants, 9 variants of CYP11B1 including 3 novel variants and 6 variants of HSD3B2 including 4 novel variants were identified. The conclusions of our study showed that in Anatolia, discovery of novel variants is quite common on account of tremendous ratios of consanguineous marriages which increases the frequency of CAH. These results will contribute to the understanding of molecular pathology of the disease.

- Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of shear-wave elastography (SWE) in the differentiation of transudative and exudative pleural effusions. This monocentric study comprised 60 cases (17 transudative, 43 exudative).Transthoracic SWE was performed in 60 cases for whom to use thoracentesis for the pleural fluid analysis was planned. The mean SWE values of each patient were recorded, and the correlation between the biochemical analysis results of pleural fluid after thoracentesis and SWE findings was evaluated. The effusion SWE values and biochemical analysis results were compared. Of the 60 patients who participated in this study, 32 (53.4) were male and 28 (46.6%) were female. The mean ± SD age was 59 ± 17.09 years (range = 21-89 years). Simultaneous serum biochemical analysis was performed for the patients with PE. The mean ± SD shear-wave velocity value of the transudative fluid was calculated 2.29 ± 0.41 (1.6-2.94), whereas the mean ± SD shear-wave velocity value of the exudative pleural fluid was calculated as 3.29 ± 0.63 (2.01-4.88) (P < 0.001). The receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that sensitivity and specificity were found as 91% and 76.5%, respectively, when the cutoff value was selected as 2.52 m/s in the differentiation of the transudative and exudative effusions.Shear-wave elastography may help in the differentiation of transudative and exudative of the pleural effusions.

15. TiO 2 thin films by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis as photocatalytic material for air purification.

- Abstract
In this study, we showed that the TiO
2 thin films deposited onto window glass are practicable for air purification and self-cleaning applications. TiO2 films were deposited onto window glass by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. Different deposition temperatures were used in the range of 250-450°C. The structural, morphological, optical properties and surface chemical composition were investigated to understand probable factors affecting photocatalytic performance and wettability of the TiO2 thin films. The TiO2 thin films were smooth, compacted and adhered adequately on the substrate with a thickness in the range of 100-240 nm. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that all the TiO2 thin films consisted of anatase phase structure with the mean crystallite size in the range of 13-35 nm. The optical measurements showed that the deposited films were highly transparent (approx. 85%). The wettability test results showed that the TiO2 thin films sprayed at 350°C and 450°C and annealed at 500°C for 1 h were superhydrophilic. The photocatalytic activity of the films was tested for the degradation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in multi-section plug-flow reactor. - Abstract
In this study, the effectiveness of transthoracic ultrasound elastography in the benign and malign distinction of subpleural/pleural solid lesions was investigated.Between July 2015 and December 2016, 33 consecutive patients with subpleural solid lesions detected via computed tomography (CT) of the thorax were identified and prospectively included in this study. The average for each lesion's shear wave velocity (SWV) value was detected, and benign and malignant lesions' SWV values are statistically compared. The CT and pathology results were used as a reference to compare these values. A receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to determine the cutoff value for benign/malignant neoplasms.The 33 patients (10 female, 23 male) included in the study had a mean age of 56.2 ± 15.40 years (range, 17-84 years), and the mean SWV value of the lesions in 13 (39%) cases evaluated benign after a CT scan, histopathological examination, or both 2.18 ± 0.49 m/s. The mean SWV value of the lesions which were histopathologically diagnosed as malign in 23 (61%) cases was 3.50 ± 0.69 m/s. (P < 0.001). When the cutoff value was set as 2.47 m/s for the SVW value, sensitivity and specificity were determined to be 97.7%.The present study has shown that transthoracic ultrasound shear wave elastography can be an effective radiological examination method in the benign and malign differentiation of subpleural lesions and has the potential for use in the routine clinical application of transthoracic ultrasound elastography, a noninvasive method for evaluating the malignancy potentials of such lesions.

- Abstract
Background: Uterine lipoleiomyoma is a rare and specific type of leiomyoma., Case Report: A 60-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with abdominal pain. Her pelvic ultrasound demonstrated a normal- sized uterus with a well- circumscribed, heterogeneous mass located in the anterior corpus. A pelvic MRI revealed a mass including hyperintense areas on T1-weighted images and hypointense on fat-suppressed T1-weighted images, compatible with lipoleiomyoma., Conclusions: Uterine lipoleiomyomas are often misdiagnosed pre-operatively and it is important to distinguish leiomyomas from other tumors for prevention from supererogatory surgery. Imaging plays an important role for the exact differentiation.

- Abstract
To evaluate the role of c-jun and c-myc proto-oncogenes in normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic endometrium in relation to estrogen receptor (ER) status and to investigate whether these genes can be related to other histopathological features of endometrial carcinoma, 32 endometrial carcinomas, 38 endometrial hyperplasias and 22 cyclic endometria (10 proliferative and 12 secretory) were evaluated histologically. Endometrial hyperplasia cases were classified as simple and complex hyperplasia without atypia, and atypical hyperplasia. Endometrial carcinoma cases were subtyped according to the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists. Modified FIGO system was used for both grading and staging. Immunohistochemical examination was performed using antibodies to ER-alpha, c-myc and c-jun with streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase technique. The mean percentage of ER-alpha positive cells changed cyclically during the menstrual cycle, and it was the highest (96%) and the lowest (31.6%) in proliferative and carcinomatous endometrium, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between proliferative and secretory phases and proliferative and carcinomatous endometrium in relation to ER-alpha staining (p<0.05). There was also a statistically significant difference with respect to ERalpha reactivity between secretory phase and each hyperplastic group, as well as between the carcinoma group and each hyperplastic group (p<0.05). Although not significant, the mean percentage of c-myc expressing cells in the carcinoma group was higher (15.3%) than that of proliferative phase and hyperplastic groups. The mean percentage of c-jun positive cells in proliferative endometrium was slightly higher than in secretory endometrium, and it was the highest in atypical hyperplastic endometrium (28.3%), but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. In carcinoma cases, a positive correlation was observed between c-jun positivity and tumor grade (p=0.027, r=0.3908), but such a correlation with c-myc was not found. A positive correlation was detected between ER-alpha and c-myc expression (p=0.038, r=0.3686). A progressive loss of ER seems to be correlated with increasing malignant transformation. C-myc expression might play a role in the development of endometrial carcinoma via ER. The association between c-jun and ER appears to be lost in endometrial carcinoma. The relationship between c-myc, c-jun and ER appears to be altered in endometrial carcinoma compared to that of menstrual endometrium.
