Accessible Summary What is known on the subject? What does this paper adds to existing knowledge? What are the implications for practice? Introduction Aim Method Results Discussion Implications for Practice Family resilience is an important determinant of family caregivers' coping with difficulties of life and stress effectively. Family resilience factors contribute to the family's adaptation to difficulties. From the perspective of the individual living with schizophrenia and family, family resilience focuses not on the losses experienced but on the strengths. Many factors such as routines, positive cognitions, intra‐family communication, family support and love as a healing force that contribute to family resilience were identified from the common perspective of the individual diagnosed with schizophrenia‐family caregiver dyads. The climate of love within the family is an important strength both for the patient diagnosed with schizophrenia and for the family caregivers. Mutual support between family members, their listening to each other and sharing experiences with each other during this disease process are therapeutic for both parties and make them resilient. Family resilience factors should be considered in planning psychosocial interventions to be applied to individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and family caregivers. The clinical use of psychosocial support interventions in family resilience which help both the individual diagnosed with schizophrenia and the family caregivers to gain a positive perspective, to improve their problem‐solving skills, and to support each other within the family should be expanded. Displaying approaches aimed at increasing the climate of love and strengthening correct communication techniques within the family towards both the individual diagnosed with schizophrenia and the family caregiver should be supported. Psychiatric nurses' focusing on family resilience from a systemic perspective in chronic mental illnesses such as schizophrenia strengthens the patient and the family. This perspective focuses on functional dimensions and protects mental health despite existing problems. Family resilience is one of the important concepts that should be addressed in chronic mental illnesses. This study was aimed at investigating family resilience experiences from the perspective of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia‐family caregiver dyads. The study was conducted in the Adult Psychiatry inpatient and outpatient unit of a university hospital in a province in western Turkey using the phenomenological method. By using the purposeful sampling method, 20 participants were selected in the study. Of them, 10 were family caregivers and 10 were patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. The results of the study were analysed with a dyadic approach within the framework of key processes of Walsh family resilience model. The directed content analysis method was used to analyse the data obtained from the study. COREQ checklist was used to report the research. After the analysis, the following five main themes emerged: positive cognitions, routines, family support, intra‐family communication and love as a healing force.Family resilience is a structure shaped by the relationship between family members. The factors that contribute to the individual diagnosed with schizophrenia‐caregiver dyads' ability to overcome difficulties in family resilience are discussed in line with the relevant literature.Intervention programs should be implemented to create an environment of love by improving relationships and communication in the family, improving problem solving and increasing support resources. Objectives: Short-term internet-based and online group cognitive behavioral therapy practices affect young people's and women's attempts to cope with their emotional eating (EE) and uncontrolled eating (UE) behaviors in the long term. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an online- guided self-help group program (GSH) on healthy female nursing students' EE and UE behaviors. Methods: This quasi-experimental study without a control group which has the pre-test, post-test, and 6-month follow-up design was carried out with 24 3rd- and 4th-year young female nursing students studying at a Faculty of Nursing between March 2021 and June 2021. The data were collected using three-factor eating questionnaire (TFEQ) and an emotional eater questionnaire (EEQ). The online group GSH consists of six online group sessions. Results: In the study, the mean scores the students obtained from the data collection tools in terms of such variables as thinking that they eat fast, weighing status, feeling negative about their weight, and being satisfied with their body image changed for the better significantly right after the online group GSH (p<0.05). The mean scores the students obtained from sub-dimensions of the TFEQ (χ²=15.205, p<0.001; χ²=31.224, p<0.001) and from the EEQ (χ²=21.622, p<0.001) decreased right after and 6 months after the online group GSH. Conclusion: In this study, the online group GSH conducted with female nursing students affected their coping with EE and UE behaviors positively. This suggests that self-help interventions can be implemented to improve the eating behaviors of female. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Eating behavior in women may be affected by several factors, such as their environment, body image, and mood, and a deterioration in healthy eating behaviors can lead to overeating, stress or emotional disorders, obesity, and other health concerns. This case study examined the results of a guided self-help program (GSHP) designed to address emotional eating behavior in a non-obese woman. The outcomes indicated that a 12-session GSHP reduced the patient's emotional eating behavior. To our knowledge, this is the first such study. The results cannot be generalized to a wider population as they are applicable to only 1 case; therefore, additional research using GSHP with larger samples are needed. Nonetheless, the findings were encouraging and psychiatric nurses should consider implementing GSHP techniques to help regulate emotional eating behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of this study was to adapt the stigma subdimension of the Family Interview Schedule (FIS) developed for a World Health Organization study for use with a Turkish population and to conduct a validity and reliability assessment of the instrument. Methods: The study sample consisted of 141 family members who presented at the Adult Psychiatry Inpatient and Outpatient Unit of a university hospital and the Izmir Schizophrenia Solidarity Association between May 2019 and November 2020 who met the sampling criteria. The inclusion criteria were age >18 years, literacy, family member of a patient with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or a mood disorder. Internal consistency analysis and test-retest analysis were performed to assess reliability, and validity was evaluated using language validity analysis, content validity analysis, and exploratory factor analysis. Results: The content validity index of the stigma section of the FIS was 0.96, and a Cronbach alpha level of 0.81 was determined. The Spearman correlation coefficient of test-retest reliability between 2 measurements was 0.86. Conclusion: The results of the present study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the stigma section of the FIS created is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used to assess the stigma experiences of family members of people with chronic mental illness in Turkey. Objectives: In the study, it was aimed to determine the views of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia with work experience about working life. Methods: The study has a descriptive qualitative design, one of the qualitative research methods. The study data were collected from 11 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia through semi-structured interviews. For the selection of the individuals in the sample, the purposeful sampling method was used. Individuals with a history of at least 24 months of illness (schizophrenia), without hearing impairment, having worked or still working at a full or part-time job, and being diagnosed with schizophrenia, being in remission for at least 1 year were included in the study. The content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. Results: Four main themes were obtained at the end of the study: Working Life as a Part of Life, Facilitators, Barriers and Suggestions/Expectations. Conclusion: For individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, working is a part of life and is of importance. On the other hand, while there are facilitators that enable individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia to be included in the working life, there are obstacles that make their working life difficult and keeping them away from working life. Mental health professionals' awareness of working life, which is an important area in the recovery of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and their visibility in the society, is of importance. Integration of the results obtained from the study into the content of psychosocial intervention programs created by mental health professionals for individuals with chronic mental illnesses and their making plans for the creation of an employment environment are of great importance. - Abstract
Purpose: This study was aimed at investigating the psychometric properties of the Family Crisis Oriented Personal Evaluation Scale (F-COPES) for Turkish society, which assesses the coping skills of caregivers of individuals with chronic mental illnesses.Design and Methods: The study was conducted with 153 family caregivers in the inpatient and outpatient units and u0130zmir Schizophrenia Solidarity Association. For the language validity, translation-back translation method was performed. For the content validity, expert opinions were obtained, for the construct validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed. For the reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient was calculated and the test-retest reliability analysis was performed. Findings: The content validity index of the scale was 0.96. Factor loadings of the subscales ranged between 0.32 and 0.70 for the acquiring social support subscale, between 0.44 and 0.74 for the reframing subscale, between 0.54 and 0.74 for the seeking spiritual support subscale, and between 0.33 and 0.70 for the mobilizing to acquire and accept help subscale (Figure 1). The model fit indexes were as follows: u03c72 = 327.269, df = 201, u03c72 / df = 1.62, RMSA = 0.064, CFI = 0.84, IFI = 0.84, GFI = 0.84 (Table 1). The Cronbachu2019s alpha reliability coefficient for the overall scale was 0.82 (Figure 2).Practice Implications: The results of the present study show that the levels of psychometric properties of F-COPES in Turkish society are acceptable. It is thought that it would be useful to use the F-COPES in the assessment of coping behaviors of individuals who give care to patients with a chronic mental illness and in studies to be conducted with caregivers of patients with chronic mental illness. It is also recommended to develop scales aimed at assessing familiesu2019 strategies to cope with the chronic mental illness in Turkish culture.

MENTAL illness , *META-analysis , *INDIVIDUAL needs , *PSYCHOLOGICAL distress - Abstract
This systematic review was undertaken to assess the needs of individuals with chronic mental illness and the investigations in the last decade that have identified the factors that affected them. The systematic review of the literature was conducted using the keywords "Pubmed", "Google Scholar", "Science Direct", "Medline", "Ebsco", "Cochrane". The studies were evaluated within the inclusion and exclusion criteria. As a result of the literature reviewed, between 2008 and 2018, 20 studies with patients with chronic mental disorders were included in the review. Nineteen of the investigated studies are descriptive and one is randomized controlled experimental work. The sample size of the studies studied is between 35 and 588. Psychosocial needs such as social and close relationships, physical health status, disease status and treatment information, daytime activities and psychological distress were mostly unmet. It was determined that the needs of the patients were affected by sociodemographic characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, disease diagnosis, disease duration and number of hospitalizations. In addition, it was found that the needs of patients were affected by socio-economic status and functionality and symptom severity. In this systematic review, it is seen that patients need many areas and socio-demographic and economic factors and disease characteristics affect the requirements. The planning and implementation of interventions to meet the needs of individuals with chronic mental disorders is important for the survival of individuals in community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The study aimed to adapt the Camberwell Assessment of Need Short Appraisal Schedule/Self-Rated version (CANSAS/CANSAS-P) to Turkish, and to test its validity and reliability on individuals with severe mental disorder. Methods: The sample consisted of 111 individuals with severe mental disorders who were receiving care at five separate Community Mental Health Centers in Izmir. The CANSAS was applied by the Researcher and an Observer to evaluate the participants, while the CANSAS-P was completed by the participants. Results: The content validity index of CANSAS and CANSAS-P was found to be 0.84. Results from the exploratory factor analysis showed that the compliance values of the CANSAS and CANSAS-P were 0.68 and 0.65, respectively. From the confirmatory factor analysis of the scales, the compliance indices were found to be acceptable at 0.075 and 0.054. In the CANSAS compliance analysis conducted to determine the level of agreement between the independent observers the total Kappa value was 0.621. In the parallel form reliability testing, two of the need levels were found to vary between 0.431 and 0.936. Conclusion: From the results, this study concludes that CANSAS and CANSAS-P are valid and reliable tools for conducting assessments of individuals with severe mental disorders in Turkey. The CANSAS is administered by a mental health team, while CANSAS-P is completed by the individual with chronic mental impairment, making them both important tools for identifying the views of both the specialist and the individual. It is believed that with these tools, a cooperative service mentality can be formed in planning treatment and care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to investigate the studies conducted with the families of chronic psychiatric patients in Turkey and determine the characteristics and scope of future studies. In order to map out the recent studies conducted with the families of psychiatric patients in Turkey national and international databases were reviewed and eventually 26 studies were found to be suitable for inclusion. Of 26 studies reviewed, 7 studies were experimental and 19 studies were designed as descriptive in which certain reference points were defined such as mental health conditions of the family, family burden, quality of life, functionality, expressed emotions and their needs for education. On the other hand, the experimental studies mostly focused on the effects of various psychoeducation intervention programs particularly designed for care givers on patients and families. It was concluded that there is an obvious insufficiency in the number studies and researches on defining stress management levels and burdens of the families of chronic psychiatric patients as well as intervention programs specially designed for such families.

People with mental disorders often manifest their extraordinary characters through their speech and behavior, which in turn creates reactionary attitudes in society. In the same manner, health professionals, as members of the society, can express negative attitudes towards psychiatry patients. Since they provide health services and serve as "consultants" and "role models" for the well-being of people, their discriminating and stigmatizing attitudes may also preclude the involvement of these patients in medical care. Therefore, attitude researches today primarily focus on to analyze the attitudes of health professionals. While a majority of the studies include psychiatrists, general practitioners, specialists and medical students, only a limited number of studies refer to staff nurses and nursing students. The review of literature in this study, therefore, was limited with the researches carried out in the last decade. The aim of this study was to analyze the attitude researches focused on the attitudes of health professionals, especially those of nursing and nursing students in Turkey, and to clarify the similarities and differences with relevant studies. The results of the review illustrated that the attitudes of health professionals towards psychiatry patients and psychiatric disorders have not changed for the last ten years and remained fundamentally discriminating and refusing. The medical curricula in Turkey should be redesigned so as to raise awareness in the course contents of medicine and nursing schools against the negative attitudes during both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Moreover, a more inclusive review of the factors that may have influenced the attitudes towards mental illnesses should be carried out and specially designed education and research programs should be implemented., Ruh sağlığında belirgin bozukluğu olan insanlar toplum içerisinde çoğunlukla farklı olduklarını konuşma ve hareketleri ile ortaya koyarken, bu farklılık toplumda onlarla ilgili bazı tutumların oluşmasına neden olmaktadır.

Ailelerin yaşadıkları güçlüklerin tanımlanması ve etkili müdahalelerin uygulanması önemlidir, Most schizophrenia patients live with their families and therefore the mental illnesses adversely affects family members as well as the patients. Family members often experience a number of challenges in providing care. They have been reported to have certain emotional difficulties such as anxiety, depression, shame, sense of guilt, fear, helplessness, uneasiness, distress, despair, anger and sense of loss. Family members have to cope with such complications on their own in most cases. However, in some cases, family members may fail to deal with such emotional strains and experience psychological problems. It is considered to be highly important to identify challenges anddifficulties that family members may encounter and implement effective measures.

Purpose: To examine the effect of motivational interview (MI) on treatment adherence and insight of the patients diagnosed with schizophrenia at a hospital in Turkey. Design and Methods: Individuals with schizophrenia, who match with the sample characteristics, were assigned to intervention (20) and control groups (20) according to the randomization schedule. Personal Information Form, Self‐Reported Measure of Medication Adherence, and Schedule for Assessing the Three Components of Insight were used. Findings: Group‐wise examinations showed that mean scores of "three component scales of insight" yielded statistically significant difference for the intervention group. Analysis of the Treatment Adherence Scale Mean Scores showed a significant difference for interval mean scores of the intervention group. Practice Implications: Both the pyschiatric patients and the health institutions can benefit from increased levels of treatment adherence and insight by the adoption of the MI methods starting with a patient's first registration to a psychiatric outpatient clinic. Implications for Nursing Practice: MI can be included during any of the patient visits to establish treatment collaboration with psychiatric patients at psychiatric facilities, outpatient clinics, and community mental health centers. - Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare burden on caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis and caregivers of those with chronic psychosis. The study sample consisted of 39 caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis and 40 caregivers of patients with chronic psychosis. The Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) was used for data collection. The average caregiver burden in caregivers of patients with chronic psychosis was significantly higher than that in caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis. With regard to the subscales of CBI, there was a significantly higher level of burden in terms of time dependence, development, physical burden, and social burden in caregivers of patients with chronic psychosis than in caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis, while no such difference could be detected for the emotional burden. The absence of a difference in emotional burden suggests that caregivers of first episode psychosis may be going through an intense emotional experience, placing them in a high-risk status, despite an average caregiving experience duration of 11 months. Family interventions targeting the caregivers of patients with chronic psychosis or patients with first episode psychosis should be planned in accordance with the specific needs of these caregiver groups. It is also recommended to conduct programs involving the concurrent participation of the caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis and caregivers of patients with chronic psychosis and interventional programs such as "early psychosis support" for the caregivers of patients with first episode psychosis. Objectives: This descriptive study was conducted to determine the views of the patients' relatives and health professionals on the implementation of patient accompaniment in the psychiatry clinic. Methods: The study was performed in the psychiatry clinic of a university hospital in Izmir. The sample consisted of 41 patient companions and 19 health personnel. The research data was collected through a questionnaire developed by using the relevant literature and expert opinions, and for the analysis of the data, number and percentage distribution was used. Results: The most of the companions, (54%) were female and 56% were parents. The most of the health professionals were physician (63.2%) and all of them considered patient accompaniment as a necessary practice. The patients' relatives expressed negative opinions that there was not enough space to rest in the clinic (27%), and that they were not able to sleep comfortably (36.6%). While all of the employees reported that patients' having a companion reduces the burden of the team in the care of at-risk patients, half of them (52.6%) stated that the practice adversely affected patients' functionality and routine applications performed by the employees. Health professionals indicated that the difficulties suffered by the companions were the lack of space to sleep or rest in the clinic environment (68.4%) and that the companions had trouble in coping with the disease and disease process and in approaching the patient (52.6%). Conclusion: Both the patient's relatives and medical staff working in the psychiatry clinic considered that accompaniment was necessary especially for patients who needed care and who were at risk to harm themselves and/ or others. It is recommended that the responsibilities undertaken and the problems suffered by the companions should be taken into account and the necessary arrangements regarding their rest and sleep requirements should be made. PSYCHOTHERAPY patients , *DESCRIPTIVE statistics , *EXPERIMENTAL design , *MENTAL health , *PSYCHOEDUCATION - Abstract
On the other hand, the experimental studies mostly focused on the effects of various psychoeducation intervention programs particularly designed for care.givers on patients and families. It was concluded that there is an obvious insufficiency in the number studies and researches on defining stress management levels and burdens of the families of chronic psychiatric patients as well as intervention programs specially designed for such families. Particularly designed invervention programs and studies are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Schizophrenia is one of the most important chronic disease that decreases life quality and functions which give rise to numerous personal and economic problems in the world. Problems attributed to dopaminergic system lead to lack of motivation and have the patients encounter difficulties in fulfilling their daily personal and social roles. Motivational interviewing can be used at psychiatric clinics, out-patient clinics, and community mental health centers such as establishing collaboration with chronic mental challenged patients, promoting patient self-care, and helping patients develop healthy life style behaviors. It is of important for the psychiatric and mental health nurses, who care schizophrenia diagnosed patients, to establish a therapeutic collaboration via Motivational interviewing method in order to access the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors related to the problematic areas of the patients., Şizofreni kronik ruhsal bir bozukluk olarak yaşam kalitesi ve işlevlerde azalmaya neden olan ve tüm dünyada büyük oranda kişisel ve ekonomik sorunlara yol açan en önemli sağlık sorunlarından biridir. Dopaminerjik sistemden kaynaklanan sorunlar nedeniyle hastalarda motivasyon yetersizliği ortaya çıkmakta ve hastaların günlük yaşamda bireysel ve toplumsal rollerini yerine getirmesinde zorluk yaşamasına neden olmaktadır. Motivasyonel görüşme yöntemi psikiyatri klinikleri, psikiyatri poliklinikleri ve toplum ruh sağlığı birimlerinde kronik psikiyatri hastaları ile tedavi işbirliğinin sağlanması, özbakımın sürdürülmesi ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışlarının kazanılması ve sürdürülmesinde kullanılabilir. Şizofreni tanılı bireylerle çalışan psikiyatri hemşirelerinin, motivasyonel görüşme yöntemi ile terapötik birliktelik kurabilmesi, hastaların sorun yaşadıkları alanla ilgili iç ve dış motivasyon kaynaklarını değerlendirebilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır.

Schizophrenia,family to family support,experience ,Şizofreni,aileden aileye destek,deneyim - Abstract
Bu derlemede Doktora tezi kapsamında geliştirilen şizofreni hastasına bakım verenlere uygulanan “Aileden Aileye Destek Programı” hazırlık aşaması ve uygulama aşamasında yaşanılan deneyimler paylaşılmaktadır., Schizophrenia is known to adversely affect the daily lives of family as well as the patients. Families often live together with the patients alone in their houses. They are obviously deprived of any kind of support and guidance about how to cope with the challenges they have with the patient at home. The caregivers of schizophrenia patients also require information and support about the course of the illness just like the patients. However, health professionals often fail to cover such needs of support for a variety of reasons, which currently inspired to initiate support programs, including “The Family to Family Support Program”. This review presents the results of a doctoral dissertation and aims to share the experiences of devising and implementing “the Family to Family Program”, a specially designed program to provide support to the care givers of schizophrenia patients.

MEDICAL science education , *NURSES' attitudes , *MENTAL health , *MEDICAL personnel , *MENTAL illness , *MEDICAL care , *NURSING schools - Abstract
People with mental disorders often manifest their extraordinary characters through their speech and behavior, which in turn creates reactionary attitudes in society. In the same manner, health professionals, as members of the society, can express negative attitudes towards psychiatry patients. Since they provide health services and serve as "consultants" and "role models" for the wellbeing of people, their discriminating and stigmatizing attitudes may also preclude the involvement of these patients in medical care. Moreover, a more inclusive review of the factors that may have influenced the attitudes towards mental illnesses should be carried out and specially designed education and research programs should be implemented.
