Triple primary malignancies are rare, involving the occurrence of three distinct, unrelated cancers in a single patient, requiring a personalized, multidisciplinary treatment approach. A 69-year-old male was diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), lung adenocarcinoma, and papillary thyroid carcinoma. After amputation for DFSP, following staging and genetic evaluation, a multidisciplinary tumor board designed a tailored treatment plan, adjuvant chemotherapy for lung adenocarcinoma while monitor regularly the thyroid carcinoma via ultrasound. This case highlights the extreme rarity of this triple primary cancers combination and emphasizes the need for individualized treatment planning. Each cancer's unique characteristics, prognosis, and potential interactions must be considered, alongside the patient's overall health and treatment tolerability, to optimize outcomes in such complex cases.

This paper introduces a novel sliding mode control (SMC) design utilizing a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) Sliding Surface (SS) for frequency regulation in multi-area electrical power systems (EPSs) with hydropower turbines, accounting for random load conditions, parameter variations, and matched uncertainties. The global system stability of this new approach is mathematically analyzed using Lyapunov theory alongside a novel Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) technique. A robust strategy is employed through the reaching law method to ensure that frequency deviations converge to zero, even under varying load demands. Despite the presence of parameter variations and random load conditions, the control objectives remain achievable, highlighting the robustness of the proposed method. Moreover, this strategy results in lower overshoot, quicker response times, and reduced chattering effects compared to current traditional SMCs including Proportional-Integral (PI), double PI (DPI), and Proportional-Derivative (PD) sliding surfaces, demonstrating its advantages. Finally, the effectiveness of the suggested scheme is further verified based on three-area EPSs with matched uncertainties, indicating that the proposed scheme achieves stable and robust performance, further confirming its superiority through simulation results.

ABSTRACT Wind speed variables play an important role in exploiting wind power. However, they are fluctuating and random. Therefore, understanding their characteristics and properties is necessary to improve exploitation efficiency. This research investigates various wind speed distribution models, both parametric and nonparametric, to estimate wind speed probability density (WSPD). The distribution models are implemented on various wind speed datasets with distribution characteristics of varying complexity. The assessment of goodness of fit includes statistical tests including Cramér‐von Mises (CvM), Anderson‐Darling (A‐D), Kolmogorov‐Smirnov (K‐S), and chi‐square (χ2), along with indices correlated as mean absolute percent error (MAPE). The study highlights that the adaptive bandwidth kernel density estimation (AKDE) distribution model based on the nearest neighbor estimation (NNE) has superior goodness of fit performance. Wind turbine power curves are applied to calculate and compare expected, distribution‐based, and empirical power output. In addition, the difference between the power output estimated from the AKDE distribution and the estimate from the empirical wind speed is almost zero, so this estimated power is reliable and can be used as a reference for planning or evaluating wind farm efficiency.

AbstractThis study analyzes the effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) on wage inequality in Vietnam by utilizing panel data from 63 provinces over the period 2010–2018. The spatial autocorrelation model is used in the study. Empirical results from the spatial econometric model reveal that FDI tends to increase wage inequality in localities and has direct and spatial effects. Economic growth has led to a reduction in the wage inequality between skilled and unskilled labor. The increase in the proportion of the skilled labor force reduces wage inequality in provinces with high human capital and developed education systems. The study results imply that the policy on attracting and utilizing FDI needs to be aligned with training and human capital development to ensure sustainable development. It is also necessary to emphasize professional training for the workforce to attract FDI.

The study aims to investigate the factors shape digital entrepreneurial intention based on the application of the Social Cognitive Career theory. A sample of 345 engineering students and the structural equation modeling method are used to provides a better understanding of the factors (attitude toward digital entrepreneurship, digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy, digital entrepreneurial knowledge, and digital entrepreneurial education) that motivate engineering students to engage in digital entrepreneurship. The results indicate that attitude toward digital entrepreneurship significantly and positively impacts the digital entrepreneurship intention. Additionally, digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy plays a crucial role in fostering a positive attitude toward digital entrepreneurship. The study highlights the importance of digital entrepreneurial knowledge, which positively affects both self-efficacy and attitude toward digital entrepreneurship. The finding emphasizes the significance of digital entrepreneurial education in enhancing knowledge and digital entrepreneurial self-efficacy. The results are anticipated to offer both theoretical and practical insights into the factors encouraging digital entrepreneurial intentions.

ABSTRACTMost speech processing models begin with feature extraction and then pass the feature vector to the primary processing model. The solution's performance mainly depends on the quality of the feature representation and the model architecture. Much research focuses on designing robust deep network architecture and ignoring feature representation's important role during the deep neural network era. This work aims to exploit a new approach to design a speech signal representation in the time-frequency domain via Linear Chirplet Transform (LCT). The proposed method provides a feature vector sensitive to the frequency change inside human speech with a solid mathematical foundation. This is a potential direction for many applications. The experimental results show the improvement of the feature based on LCT compared to MFCC or Fourier Transform. In both speaker gender recognition, dialect recognition, and speech recognition, LCT significantly improved compared with MFCC and other features. This result also implies that the feature based on LCT is independent of language, so it can be used in various applications.

Mapping the boundaries of subsurface geological structures constitutes a fundamental aspect of interpreting gravity data. Various methods relying on gravity derivatives have been introduced to delineate these boundaries. However, these approaches are not without their limitations, often leading to the generation of false edges or resulting in divergent outcomes. This article introduces a novel method that utilizes the power law approach and balanced total horizontal derivative for mapping gravity data edges. To assess the robustness of the proposed technique, we conducted tests on model examples and applied it to a real case study in northwest Vietnam. The results demonstrate that our method can accurately and clearly map edges in comparison to existing methodologies, while also preventing the generation of spurious edges in the output maps.

The pathogenesis and prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) may be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Findings on the relationship of polymorphisms in various genes encoding the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system with coronary artery lesions and mortality in AMI patients are inconsistent. The aim of this study was to determine whether the AGTR1 A1166C genetic polymorphism affects coronary artery lesions and 1-year mortality in post-AMI patients. Patients with their first AMI admitted to Cho Ray Hospital, Vietnam, from January 2020 to August 2021 were enrolled in this prospective clinical study. All participants underwent invasive coronary angiography and were identified as having the genotypes of AGTR1 A1166C by way of a polymerase chain reaction method. All patients were followed up for all-cause mortality 12 months after AMI. The association of the AGTR1 A1166C polymorphism with coronary artery lesions and 1-year mortality was evaluated using logistic regression and Cox regression analysis, respectively. Five hundred and thirty-one AMI patients were recruited. The mean age was 63.9 ± 11.6 years, and 71.6% of the patients were male. There were no significant differences in the location and number of diseased coronary artery branches between the AA and AC+CC genotypes. The AC and CC genotypes were independently associated with ≥ 90% diameter stenosis of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery (odds ratio = 1.940; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.059-3.552, p = 0.032). The 1-year all-cause mortality rate difference between patients with the AC and CC genotypes versus those with the AA genotype was not statistically significant (hazard ratio = 1.000, 95% CI: 0.429-2.328, p = 1.000). The AGTR1 A1166C genetic polymorphism is associated with very severe luminal stenosis of the LAD but not with mortality in AMI patients.

Metformin is a cornerstone medication in the management of type 2 diabetes. Metformin is safe, effective, and inexpensive; however, it is associated with vitamin B12 deficiency. This study set out to evaluate the rate of vitamin B12 deficiency in Vietnamese patients with type 2 diabetes who were treated with metformin and to investigate factors associated with vitamin B12 deficiency. This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted in Vinmec Central Park Hospital from February to June 2023. The clinical and paraclinical characteristics of the participants were recorded, and the levels of vitamin B12 and folate were measured. The rate of vitamin B12 deficiency in patients treated with metformin was found to be 18.6%. Further, the duration of diabetes, duration of metformin use, metformin dose, and hemoglobin levels were statistically associated with vitamin B12 deficiency with OR (95% CI) = 1.12 (1.03-1.19), 1.01 (1.00-1.02), 1.002 (1.001-1.002), 0.74 (0.55-0.99), respectively. After adjusting for covariates, a metformin dose greater than the median dose remained the only parameter associated with vitamin B12 deficiency, with OR (95% CI) = 4.10 (1.62-10.36). Moreover, when combining both long-term use of metformin and a metformin dose greater than the median dose, the OR increased to 5.25 (95% CI: 2.11-13.15). These results demonstrate that vitamin B12 deficiency in patients treated with metformin is quite prevalent in Vietnam and that those with long-term use of metformin (48 months or more) and high metformin dose (1000 mg/day or more) are at high risk of experiencing this adverse effect and so require screening.

Abstract Background Radiofrequency catheter ablation is the preferred treatment choice for ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) originating from right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) in symptomatic patients and is usually performed under fluoroscopy guidance. Zero‐fluoroscopy (ZF) ablations using 3D mapping system applied for treatment of various types of arrhythmias are trending and practiced in many centers around the world, but rarely done in Vietnam. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of zero‐fluoroscopy ablation of RVOT VAs, compared with fluoroscopy‐guided ablation without a 3D electroanatomic mapping (EAM) system. Methods and Results We conducted a nonrandomized, prospective single‐center study including 114 patients with RVOT VAs that had electrocardiographic features of typical left bundle branch block, inferior axis QRS morphology, and a precordial transition ≥ V3, from May 2020 to July 2022. The patients were assigned (without randomization) to two different approaches of either zero‐fluoroscopy ablation under the guidance of the Ensite system (ZF group) or fluoroscopy‐guided ablation without a 3D EAM (fluoroscopy group) in a 1:1 ratio. After a follow‐up time of 5.0 ± 4.9 months and 6.9 ± 9.3 months in the ZF and fluoroscopy groups, respectively, the results showed a higher success rate in the fluoroscopy group than in the complete ZF group (87.3% vs 86.8%), although the difference was not statistically significant. No major complication was noted in both the groups. Conclusion ZF ablation for RVOT VAs can be done safely and effectively using the 3D electroanatomic mapping system. The results of ZF approach are comparable to that of the fluoroscopy‐guided approach without a 3D EAM system.

Abstract This article presents a comprehensive review of current Magnetic Imaging Techniques (MIT), specifically Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) methods as well as their impacts and potential in biomedical applications. The paper particularly focuses on several perspectives of MPI and MRI techniques including technical considerations, advantages, limitations, applications, future trends. Surprisingly, there are not many review articles that focused on MPI and MRI. This review will give a complete overview of present technology, perspectives, and potential future developments for MPI and MRI. MIT has become an essential and integral part of medical diagnosis in many large medical clinics and hospitals. This area is rapidly developing and evolving to meet the huge demands in medical diagnosis and prevention. MPI and MRI are promising technologies that provide reliable and effective diagnosis for many diseases including cancer. MIT uses non‐invasive scanning to obtain a detailed image of the body's tissues or organs without the necessity for surgery. These techniques allow us to detect symptoms of serious diseases at an early stage. Early detection also gives patients the chance to get the right care before their illnesses advance to a late, incurable stage, potentially saving many lives.

AbstractThis paper investigates the inflation-hedging ability of gold in Vietnam from 2011 to 2022. In order to assess how government management has affected the domestic gold market, two local gold prices (SJC and 9999) were employed. The non-linear autoregressive distributed lags (NARDL) approach is applied to analyze the short- and long-run asymmetry between CPI and gold prices. The result reveals that the relationships between CPI and gold prices are non-linear (asymmetric) and gold can only hedge against inflation in the short run. Additionally, the global gold price fluctuations, combined with limited supply, have created a supply shock, causing domestic enterprises to proactively widen the bid-ask spread in both types of gold to mitigate risks, indirectly exacerbating the local-global price disparities.

A high-order optimal disturbance observer (HOODO) is introduced to precisely estimate the aerodynamic torque and the variable wind speed; and consequently calculate the optimal speed of the generator without measuring the wind speed. As the immeasurable wind speed is varying fast, the aerodynamic torque, which is considered as a disturbance, is also changed fast, then the conventional assumption that the disturbance is slowly-varying (i.e., its first-time derivative is zero), is not applicable. The proposed HOODO design considers the fast and stochastic characteristics of the wind speed by relaxing aforementioned conventional assumption. Moreover, via the linear optimal control theory, the parameters of the HOODO are tuned systematically by proper selection of the elements of the diagonal weighting matrices. In this study, a compromise between the observer’s convergence rate and the ability to Gaussian noise suppression is also considered. This helps to solve the difficulties of many existing observers regarding the gain selection algorithms. Also in the article, for the first time, a control scheme is considered in combination with the proposed HOODO and the LQ controller. To maximize a power captured from the wind, a linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) is utilized to maintain the angular speed of the generator at the optimal speed reference. A stability analysis of the designed control scheme is also discussed. Comparative results of the HOODO under different orders as well as other observers are given to prove the effectiveness of the introduced estimation method. The obtained simulation results reveal that the HOODO has a superior estimation of disturbance. All the simulations are carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink software.

BackgroundThe severity of coronary artery disease is a prognostic factor for major adverse cardiovascular events in patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction. ACE I/D polymorphism is one of the genetic factors that may affect the severity of coronary artery disease. This study aimed to investigate the association between ACE I/D genotypes and the severity of coronary artery disease in patients with acute myocardial infarction.Materials and methodsA single-center, prospective, observational study was conducted at the Department of Cardiology and Department of Interventional Cardiology, Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from January 2020 to June 2021. All participants diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction underwent contrast-enhanced coronary angiography. The severity of coronary artery disease was determined by Gensini score. ACE I/D genotypes were identified in all subjects by using the polymerase chain reaction method.ResultsA total of 522 patients diagnosed with first acute myocardial infarction were recruited. The patients' median Gensini score was 34.3. The II, ID, and DD genotype rates of ACE I/D polymorphism were 48.9%, 36.4%, and 14.7%, respectively. After adjusting for confounding factors, multivariable linear regression analysis showed that the ACE DD genotype was independently associated with a higher Gensini score compared with the II or ID genotypes.ConclusionThe DD genotype of the ACE I/D polymorphism was associated with the severity of coronary artery disease in Vietnamese patients diagnosed with first acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract Background Genetic factors play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, no comprehensive study has described genetic alterations in Vietnamese patients diagnosed with PD. This study aimed to identify genetic causes and their association with clinical phenotypes in a Vietnamese PD cohort. Methods A total of 83 patients with early‐onset PD (disease onset before the age of 50) were recruited for genetic analysis using a combination of multiplex ligation‐dependent probe amplification and next‐generation sequencing for a panel of 20 PD‐associated genes. Results It was found that 37 out of 83 patients carried genetic alterations, with 24 pathogenic/likely pathogenic/risk variants and 25 variants of uncertain significance. The pathogenic/likely pathogenic/risk variants were mostly detected in LRRK2, PRKN, and GBA, while the variants of uncertain significance were identified in 12 different genes that were studied. The most common genetic alteration was LRRK2 c.4883G>C (p.Arg1628Pro), and patients with PD carrying this variant were found to have a distinct phenotype. Participants carrying pathogenic/likely pathogenic/risk variants had a significantly higher rate of a family history of PD. Conclusion These results provide a further understanding of genetic alterations associated with PD in a South‐East Asian population.

Introduction: Polysaccharide and alcohol extracts of Anoectochilus formosanus Hayata have attracted great attention as they exhibit noteworthy properties such as prebiotic and anti-hyperglycemic effects. However, the antioxidant and wound-healing activities of the polysaccharide extract as well as the antibacterial and cytotoxic effects of the ethanol extracts have not been thoroughly uncovered. Therefore, our study investigated these bioactivities of the two extracts prepared from Anoectochilus formosanus to broaden understandings of medical benefits of the plant. Methods: The monosaccharide composition was analyzed by HPAEC-PAD. The antioxidant and wound-healing activities of the polysaccharide extract were evaluated by ABTS and scratch assays, respectively. The broth dilution method was used to determine the antibacterial ability of the ethanol extract. Additionally, the cytotoxic and mechanistic effects of this extract against hepatocellular carcinoma HUH-7 cells was assessed by MTT assay, qRT-PCR and Western blotting methods. Results: The polysaccharide extract possessed an effective free radical scavenging ability in an ABTS assay (IC50 = 44.92 μg/ml). The extract also ameliorated wound recovery in a fibroblast scratch assay. Meanwhile, the ethanol extract was able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (MIC = 2500 μg/ml), Bacillus cereus (MIC = 2500 μg/ml), Escherichia coli (MIC = 2500 μg/ml), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC = 1250 μg/ml). Additionally, it repressed the viability of HUH-7 cells (IC50 = 53.44 μg/ml), possibly through upregulating the expression of caspase 3 (CASP3), CASP8, and CASP9 at both mRNA and protein levels. Conclusion: The polysaccharide extract of A. formosanus exhibited the antioxidant and wound-healing properties whereas the ethanol extract showed the antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity against HUH-7 cells. These findings specify notable biological effects of the two extracts which could be of potential use in human healthcare.
