Abstract

Since its discovery, numerous studies have shown the role of the microbiota in well‐being and disease. The gut microbiota represents an essential factor that plays a multidirectional role that affects not just the gut but also other parts of the body, including the brain, endocrine system, humoral system, immune system, and metabolic pathways, as well as host‐microbiome interactions. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature using the desktop research methodology, this review elucidates the mechanisms by which gut microbiota dysbiosis contributes to metabolic dysfunction, including obesity, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, atherosclerosis, hyperuricemia, and hyperglycaemia. Furthermore, it examines the bidirectional communication pathways between gut microbiota and host metabolism, highlighting the role of microbial‐derived metabolites, immune modulation, and gut barrier integrity in shaping metabolic homeostasis. Importantly, the review identifies promising therapeutic strategies targeting the gut microbiota as potential interventions for metabolic syndrome, including probiotics, prebiotics, symbiotics, dietary modifications, and faecal microbiota transplantation. By delineating the bidirectional interactions between gut microbiota and metabolic syndrome, the review not only advances our understanding of disease pathophysiology but also underscores the potential for innovative microbiota‐based interventions to mitigate the global burden of metabolic syndrome and its associated complications. Abstract

Beer is an age-old alcoholic, recreational beverage popular worldwide. It is produced by the process of brewing which involves the enzymatic fermentation of the mixture of water, starch, and hops by yeast in a specific condition. Production of beer from cereal grains involved several steps including grain treatment, malting, mashing, lautering, filtration, fermentation, maturation, finishing, and packaging. The brewing process has a marked effect on the quality, taste, aroma, consistency and alcoholic content. Several types of beers with distinct characteristics can be produced by varying the brewing conditions and yeast flora. Apart from psychoactive affects beer can have several medicinal benefits when consumed in moderation. This review presents a detailed understanding of the several steps for enhancing the brewing process for commercial beer production with desirable quality and flavour. The review also highlights current research progress in the innovative methods and techniques adapted for the cost-effective production of beer, including key advances, potential applications and limitations. Therefore, keeping in view the demands of beer in human daily life, there is an extensive need to commercialize these processes by developing and optimizing novel strategies for cost-effective beer production. Two species of Ceratosporella collected on leaf litter of Mohru Oak Quercus floribunda in Uttarakhand, India, are described herein and compared with closely allied species. They are Ceratosporella deviata and Ceratosporella cheiroidea. Among them, C. cheiroidea is newly recorded from India. 45. Enhanced Biodecolorization of Synthetic Textile Dyes by NTG Mutagenesis

Abstract

Decolorization potential of different dyes, namely Procion Red Yellow, Acid Yellow-9, Direct Orange-102 and Crystal Violet, by two NTG-induced mutants as well as a wild type of Pseudomonas fluorescenswas studied. The mutant M1possessed significantly better potential as compared to the wild type in the case of all the studied dyes. However, in the case of the mutant M2, there was a decrease in the decolorization of all the dyes. The decrease in decolorization was found to be increased with increasing concentration of the dyes.

Abstract

In the present study we performed a comparative phytochemical analysis of the immunomodulating activities of the methanol leaf extract of Gymnema sylvestre (MLEGS) in Swiss albino mice. The phytochemical screening conducted on MLEGS revealed the presence of several phytoconstituents, including saponins, alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, tannins, and flavonoids. Immunomodulatory activities were determined by hemagglutination antibody (HA) titer and delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) tests for determining specific and non-specific immune responses. Flow cytometric techniques were performed for the estimation of B lymphocytes (CD3 and CD19) and Th2 cytokines (IL-2, IFN-γ and IL-4). The response produced by oral administration of MLEGS elicited a significant reduction in a dose-related manner in the primary and secondary antibody response and DTH response. The response produced by oral administration of MLEGS elicited significant reduction in a dose-related manner in the primary and secondary antibody and DTH responses, with maximum reduction observed at 200 mg/kg-body wt. The maximal reductions in the production of CD3, CD19, IL-2, IFN-γ and IL-4 were 31.59, 32.12, 29.51, 32.45 and 33.53%, respectively, at 200 mg/kg body weight. This study demonstrates that G. sylvestre exerts immunosuppressive effects on the components of the immune system of mice, and points to its significant immunomodulatory potential.
