Abstract

We explore the bound neutrons decay into invisible particles (e.g., $n\rightarrow 3 \nu$ or $nn \rightarrow 2 \nu$) in the JUNO liquid scintillator detector. The invisible decay includes two decay modes: $ n \rightarrow { inv} $ and $ nn \rightarrow { inv} $. The invisible decays of $s$-shell neutrons in $^{12}{\rm C}$ will leave a highly excited residual nucleus. Subsequently, some de-excitation modes of the excited residual nuclei can produce a time- and space-correlated triple coincidence signal in the JUNO detector. Based on a full Monte Carlo simulation informed with the latest available data, we estimate all backgrounds, including inverse beta decay events of the reactor antineutrino $\bar{\nu}_e$, natural radioactivity, cosmogenic isotopes and neutral current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos. Pulse shape discrimination and multivariate analysis techniques are employed to further suppress backgrounds. With two years of exposure, JUNO is expected to give an order of magnitude improvement compared to the current best limits. After 10 years of data taking, the JUNO expected sensitivities at a 90% confidence level are $\tau/B( n \rightarrow { inv} ) > 5.0 \times 10^{31} \, {\rm yr}$ and $\tau/B( nn \rightarrow { inv} ) > 1.4 \times 10^{32} \, {\rm yr}$., Comment: 28 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables

5. Deflection and gravitational lensing with finite distance effect in the strong deflection limit in stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes

Abstract

We study the deflection and gravitational lensing (GL) of both timelike and null signals in the equatorial plane of arbitrary stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes in the strong deflection limit. Our approach employs a perturbative method to show that both the deflection angle and the total travel time take quasi-series forms $\displaystyle \sum_{n=0}\left[ C_n\ln (1-b_c/b)+D_n\right] (1-b_c/b)^n$, with the coefficients $C_n$ and $D_n$ incorporating the signal velocity and finite distance effect of the source and detector. This new deflection angle allows us to establish an accurate GL equation from which the apparent angles of the relativistic images and their time delays are found. These results are applied to the Kerr and the rotating Kalb-Ramond (KR) spacetimes to investigate the effect of the spacetime spin in both spacetimes, and the effective charge parameter and a transition parameter in the rotating KR spacetime on various observables. 13. Deflection of charged massive particles by a four-dimensional charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole

Abstract

Based on the Jacobi metric method, this paper studies the deflection of a charged massive particle by a novel four-dimensional charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole. We focus on the weak field approximation and consider the deflection angle with finite distance effects. To this end, we use a geometric and topological method, which is to apply the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to the Jacobi space to calculate the deflection angle. We find that the deflection angle contains a pure gravitational contribution $\delta_g$, a pure electrostatic $\delta_c$ and a gravitational-electrostatic coupling term $\delta_{gc}$. We also show that the electrostatic contribution $\delta_c$ can also be computed by the Jacobi metric method using the GB theorem to a charge in a Minkowski flat spacetime background. We find that the deflection angle increases(decreases) if the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $\alpha$ is negative(positive). 16. Perturbative deflection angles of timelike rays

Abstract

Geodesics of both lightrays and timelike particles with nonzero mass are deflected in a gravitational field. In this work we apply the perturbative method developed in Ref. \cite{Jia:2020dap} to compute the deflection angle of both null and timelike rays in the weak field limit for four spacetimes. We obtained the deflection angles for the Bardeen spacetime to the eleventh order of $m/b$ where $m$ is the ADM mass and $b$ is the impact parameter, and for the Hayward, Janis-Newman-Winicour and Einstein-Born-Infeld spacetimes to the ninth, seventh and eleventh order respectively. The effect of the impact parameter $b$, velocity $v$ and spacetime parameters on the deflection angle are analyzed in each of the four spacetimes. It is found that in general, the perturbative deflection angle depends on and only on the asymptotic behavior of the metric functions, and in an order-correlated way. Moreover, it is shown that although these deflection angles are calculated in the large $b/m$ limit, their minimal valid $b$ can be as small as a few $m$'s as long as the order is high enough. At these impact parameters, the deflection angle itself is also found large. As velocity decreases, the deflection angle in all spacetime studied increases. For a given $b$, if the spacetime parameters allows a critical velocity $v_c$, then the perturbative deflection angle will deviate from its true value as $v$ decreases to $v_c$. It is also found that if the variation of spacetime parameters can only change the spacetime qualitatively at small but not large radius, then these spacetime parameter will not cause a qualitative change of the deflection angle, although its value is still quantitatively affected. 17. Facile synthesis of g-C3N4 nanosheets for effective degradation of organic pollutants via ball milling

Abstract

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has attracted extensive research interest in pollutants remediation. However, the photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4 was significantly limited by its small specific surface area. In this work, a green, high-energy ball milling method was used to fabricate g-C3N4 nanosheets. The structure, morphology, and optical properties of the prepared g-C3N4 nanosheets were characterized. The effect of ball milling parameters on the photocatalytic performance evaluated by Rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline (TC) was investigated systemically. Among the tested samples, the g-C3N4 sample milled with a 4 mL isopropanol solution at a rotation speed of 420 rpm, ball-to-powder weight ratio of 10:1, and milling time of 24 h exhibited the highest RhB degradation efficiency of 91.4% and TC degradation efficiency of 70.2%. The enhanced photocatalytic activity after ball milling was ascribed to the increase in specific surface area and efficient separation of electron–hole pairs. The trapping experiment indicated that holes and superoxide radicals were the main active species in the degradation reaction. Moreover, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of organic pollutants on g-C3N4 nanosheets was also discussed in detail.

Abstract

To achieve the goal of 'carbon neutrality', it is of great significance to accelerate the process of dismantling high-carbon and high-pollution thin-walled cylinder structures such as chimneys and so on. A 183 m ultra-high coaxial thin-walled steel-inner-cylinder reinforced concrete chimney (UCTS-RCC) was successfully demolished for the first time. To successfully dismantle the UCTS-RCC by controlled blasting demolition technology, the necessary structural mechanics theoretical analysis and the critical blasting designs rationality verification were carried out. Based on the equilibrium equation of force and bending moment, a theoretical model of incision angle selection was established to determine the incision design of the steel inner cylinder (SIC). The stability of SIC under the designed incision parameters was verified based on FEM statics analysis. The cutting experimental on the target steel plate was completed with a linear shaped cutter to obtain the cutting effect. The cutting process and the overall collapse process of the UCTS-RCC were simulated by LS-DYNA. Based on the fixed axis rotation differential equation, the synchronous toppling theoretical model were established to study the motion of the UCTS-RCC. The results showed that the maximum stress at the position of the directional window and the stresses of the remaining supports were less than the yield limit of Q235B steel after that several pretreatment windows were carried out, the SIC could maintain the stability of remaining structures. The cutting experimental results of the target steel plate using linear shaped cutter were basically consistent with the cutting simulation and the cutting effect satisfied the design requirements of instantaneous cutting separation of the supports. According to the obvious difference of material properties between Q235B steel and reinforced concrete, the ignition delay time of the SIC was set 2 s earlier than that of the RCC. According to the synchronous collapse simulations, it could be known that the ignition delay time setting was reasonable and the collapse motion state of the UCTS-RCC was approximately fixed axis rotation, which was in line with the established synchronous toppling theory model. The SIC and RCC finally successfully collapsed synchronously. The blasting scheme and the rationality verification methods were applied successfully in this project, which was of great significance to provide a reliable reference for such ultra-high thin-walled cylinder complex structural chimney.

Abstract

Simple Summary: The Apis mellifera sinisxinyuan is a kind of western honeybee with strong cold hardiness. However, the cold tolerance mechanism of A. m. sinisxinyuan is still not clear. Here, we analyzed the supercooling point and transcriptome data of A. m. sinisxinyuan treated with different temperatures and speculated that honeybees increase their energy to resist cold stress through signaling transduction, hormone regulation, oxidative phosphorylation, and other processes to shivering thermogenesis and regulate their carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. This study provides insight into the cold tolerance mechanisms of honeybees. Honeybees are important pollinators worldwide that are closely related to agricultural production and ecological balance. The biological activities and geographical distribution of honeybees are strongly influenced by temperature. However, there is not much research on the cold tolerance of honeybees. The Apis mellifera sinisxinyuan, a kind of western honeybee, exhibits strong cold hardiness. Here, we determined that short-term temperature treatment could regulate the honeybee's cold tolerance ability by measuring the supercooling point of A. m. sinisxinyuan treated with different temperatures. Transcriptome data were analyzed between the treated and untreated honeybees. A total of 189 differentially expressed genes were identified. Among them, Abra, Pla1, rGC, Hr38, and Maf were differentially expressed in all comparisons. GO and KEGG analysis showed that the DEGs were enriched in molecular functions related to disease, signal transduction, metabolism, and the endocrine system's function. The main components involved were ribosomes, nucleosomes, proteases, and phosphokinases, among others. This study explored the formation and regulation mechanism of cold tolerance in honeybees, not only providing a theoretical basis for cultivating honeybees with excellent traits but also promoting research and practice on insect stress tolerance. Abstract

Applying hyperspectral remote sensing technology to the prediction of soil moisture content (SMC) during the growth stage of soybean emerges as an effective approach, imperative for advancing the development of modern precision agriculture. This investigation focuses on SMC during the flowering stage under varying nitrogen application levels and film mulching treatments. The soybean canopy's original hyperspectral data, acquired at the flowering stage, underwent 0–2-order differential transformation (with a step size of 0.5). Five spectral indices exhibiting the highest correlation with SMC were identified as optimal inputs. Three machine learning methods, namely support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), and back propagation neural network (BPNN), were employed to formulate the SMC prediction model. The results indicate the following: (1) The correlation between the optimal spectral index of each order, obtained after fractional differential transformation, and SMC significantly improved compared to the original hyperspectral reflectance data. The average correlation coefficient between each spectral index and SMC under the 1.5-order treatment was 0.380% higher than that of the original spectral index, with mNDI showing the highest correlation coefficient at 0.766. (2) In instances of utilizing the same modeling method with different input variables, the SMC prediction model's accuracy follows the order: 1.5 order > 2.0 order > 1.0 order > 0.5 order > original order. Conversely, with consistent input variables and a change in the modeling method, the accuracy order becomes RF > SVM > BPNN. When comprehensively assessing model evaluation indicators, the 1.5-order differential method and RF method emerge as the preferred order differential method and model construction method, respectively. The R2 for the optimal SMC estimation model in the modeling set and validation set were 0.912 and 0.792, RMSEs were 0.005 and 0.004, and MREs were 2.390% and 2.380%, respectively. This study lays the groundwork for future applications of hyperspectral remote sensing technology in developing soil moisture content estimation models for various crop growth stages and sparks discussions on enhancing the accuracy of these different soil moisture content estimation models. Abstract

In public use of a large display, it is a usual phenomenon that multiple users individually participate in respective tasks on a common device. Previous studies have categorized such activity as independent interaction that involves little group engagement. However, by investigating how users approach, participate in, and interact with large displays, we found that parallel use is affected by group factors such as group size and between-user relationship. To gain a thorough understanding of individual and group behaviors, as well as parallel interaction task performance, one 70-inch display-based information searching task and experiment was conducted, in which a mobile eye movement tracking headset and a motion sensing RGB-depth sensor were simultaneously applied. The results showed that (1) a larger group size had a negative influence on the group users’ concentration on the task, perceived usability, and user experience; (2) a close relationship between users contributed to occasional collaborations, which was found to improve the users’ task completion time efficiency and their satisfaction on the large display user experience. This study proves that an integrated application of eye movement tracking and motion sensing is capable of understanding individual and group users’ behaviors simultaneously, and thus is a valid and reliable scheme in monitoring public activities that can be widely used in public large display systems.

36. Potassium ions and cyano group modified g-C3N4for effective generation of H2O2through two-electron oxygen reduction

Abstract

Potassium ions (K+) doped graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was prepared by a thermal etching method using potassium hydroxide (KOH) as an ion source. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed that the generation of the cyano group was detected while introducing K+. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, the sample with a K+doping amount of 10% showed the highest hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) generation rate of 2,140.2 µmol h−1g−1. The apparent quantum yield (AQY) at 400 nm and the solar-to-chemical conversion (SCC) are 4.35% and 1.23%, respectively. K+acted as a bridge between g-C3N4layers, which enhanced charge transfer efficiency. Meanwhile, the cyano group enhanced the adsorption capacity of protons (H+) and promoted the yield of H2O2. The catalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic stability based on four-cycle experiments. In addition, a mechanism study showed that superoxide radicals (·O2−) were the most important active species in the reaction system. Photocatalytic production of H2O2was achieved through consecutive single-electron steps. This study deepens the understanding of the oxygen reduction reaction process and opens up a new venue for improving H2O2generation.

Abstract

A non-enzymatic glucose sensing nanocomposite comprised of CoFe2O4 nanosheets grown on Reduced Graphene Oxide (CoFe2O4@rGO) has been triumphantly prepared by a facile co-precipitation process. The characterisation results reveal that the CoFe2O4 nanosheets are vertically grown on the rGO substrate and form a porous network structure. Next, Electrochemical workstation is applied to study the glucose detection performance of the CoFe2O4@rGO. The sensing tests exhibit that when the volume ratio of anhydrous ethanol and deionised water is 10 ml: 30 ml, the fabricated CoFe2O4@rGO has better glucose detection performance. Its linear detection ranges from 0.5 mM – 10 mM and 10 mM – 35 mM, and the sensitivity reaches 50.5 μAmM−1cm−2 and 143.6 μAmM−1cm−2 respectively, which is significantly better than the previously reported non-enzyme glucose sensing materials.
