- Abstract
Make dosage calculations easier to master with dimensional analysis. Dosage calculations can be intimidating, but they don't need to be. Dimensional analysis is an easy, systematic approach that shows you how to master simple to complex calculations with consistency and accuracy and reduce medication errors to ensure that drugs are administered safely and documented correctly. Dimensional analysis, which can be used on virtually every dosage calculation problem, eliminates the need to use other methods or perform lengthy, multi-step calculations. It's a method of problem-solving that organizes data in a manner that is easy to understand and apply.

20. Pharmacokinetic Principles of Dosing Adjustments : Understanding the Basics
- Author
-
Ronald D. Schoenwald and Ronald D. Schoenwald
- Subjects
- Pharmacokinetics, Drugs--Dosage
- Abstract
This book has evolved over the last twenty years from a cumulative effort to develop a professional course in pharmacokinetics that would assist future practitioners in therapeutic decision making. As practicing pharmacists become more involved with patient advising, it becomes apparent that clinicians will be required to make dosing adjustments for certain drugs. This will become increasingly more likely as pharmacy practitioners have access to patient information that requires careful attention to dose and dosing interval, which in turn correlates to various pharmacokinetic parameters such as half-life and the volume of distribution of drugs.Although many handbooks are available on this subject, they do not devote more than a brief chapter to the concepts behind the dosing adjustment approach. Pharmacokinetic Principles of Dosing Adjustments provides the concepts used to formulate approaches. Equations that appear in various chapters are developed, not through lengthy derivations, but by more of an intuitive approach. The equations are presented in their conceptual form, rather than a separate convenient form applicable to each clinic situation. This method is used to demonstrate how you can apply the initial conditions to the properties of the drug, patient and/or route of administration, rather than memorizing each variation of the basic equation. The author defines pertinent pharmacokinetic terms as well as kinetic processes and classical modeling relevant to dosing adjustments. Examples are included within each chapter that emphasize an understanding of the concepts.Pharmacokinetic Principles of Dosing Adjustments was written for practitioners who operate in a setting that requires careful consideration to dosing parameters and, in particular, with patients that require constant monitoring of therapeutic outcomes including dosing adjustments. Based on the introductory course in pharmacokinetics taught by Dr. Schoenwald for the past twenty years, this book is intended as a review and resource for practicing pharmacists.

- Drugs--Dosage, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical arithmetic, Dimensional analysis
- Abstract
Dosage calculation can be very challenging and intimidating for students, however, veteran author, Anna Curren breaks down this subject using the dimensional analysis method which reduces all calculations into a single, easy-to-solve equation. This takes the fear-factor out of manual math altogether. Many students have raved about how previous editions of this text helped them through their medical math course and succeed in clinical practice. The Sixth Edition of Dimensional Analysis for Meds: Refocusing on Essential Metric Calculations has been streamlined to present only the essential information. The first chapter begins with an overview of the metric system; as Curren states, 98% of all calculations involve metric measures. The text is structured to feature content in small instructional steps followed by assessments to reinforce what has been learned. To prevent annual hospital drug dose errors, the latest drug dosage abbreviations and metric notations are included.

• Shows how Amanita microdoses offered help and healing for a broad range of conditions, including hormonal dysfunction, allergies, gingivitis, heartburn, eczema, psoriasis, depression, epilepsy, hypertension, insomnia, and migraine • Reveals how Amanita microdoses are effective for pain relief and for interrupting addictions to alcohol, opiates, nicotine, caffeine, and other narcotics • Details how to safely identify, prepare, and preserve Amanita muscaria, including recipes for tincture, tea, oil, and ointment as well as proper microdose amounts Exploring the results of the first international study on the medicinal effects of microdosing with Amanita muscaria, the psychoactive fly agaric mushroom, Baba Masha, M.D., documents how more than 3,000 volunteers experienced positive outcomes for a broad range of health conditions as well as enhanced creativity and sports performance. Masha discovered that Amanita microdoses offered help and healing for hormonal dysfunction, low libido, allergies, asthma, swelling, gingivitis, nail fungus, digestive issues, and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis as well as recovery from stroke and cardiac arrest. She found beneficial effects on depression, epilepsy, hypertension, insomnia, and low appetite and shows how Amanita microdoses are quite effective for pain relief, including in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, menstrual pain, and migraine. The author also reveals how Amanita microdoses can interrupt addictions to alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, opiates, and other narcotics. The author details how to safely identify, harvest, prepare, and preserve Amanita muscaria, and she includes recipes for tincture, tea, oil, and ointment as well as proper microdose amounts. She shares more than 780 personal Amanita microdose reports from study participants, detailing the positive, negative, and neutral effects they experienced, and she also shares some Amanita large-dose trip reports, cautioning against this practice because of the mushroom's strong dissociative properties, including amnesia. Revealing the vast healing potential of this ancient mushroom ally, Masha's study shows not only how Amanita can help with many health conditions but also how it activates the ability to feel the value and the significance of your own life experience.

To promote effectiveness and minimize possible toxicity, the dosage of certain medications must be adjusted in persons with compromised kidney function. Failure to enjoin appropriate dosage adjustments in patients with abnormal or rapidly changing kidney function continues to lead to reports of drug toxicity involving a broad array of renally eliminated medications. This updated edition captures nearly 200 new drugs that have been approved by the FDA since the initial publication of Renal Pharmacotherapy. It also covers new evidence that has emerged regarding the need to adjust dosage of certain older medications that are eliminated by the kidneys. Additionally, it presents new data that are being continuously derived in the areas of patient-specific dose individualization for drugs of all types.Comprehensive, convenient, and evidence-based, this reference closes several identified knowledge gaps and will continue to be the leading collection of dosage recommendations for patients with compromised kidney function.
