Harold Ralph Lewis was born in Chicago on 7 June 1931 and died on 25 March 2002. An emeritus professor of physics, Ralph worked on thermonuclear fusion. He also focused on application of computers to plasma physics and developed Hamiltonian methods. Besides his active professional career, he had a lifelong interest in classical and jazz music. He was an accomplished clarinetist.
