1. Exploring 3D Face Reconstruction and Fusion Methods for Face Verification: A Case-Study in Video Surveillance

Abstract

3D face reconstruction (3DFR) algorithms are based on specific assumptions tailored to distinct application scenarios. These assumptions limit their use when acquisition conditions, such as the subject's distance from the camera or the camera's characteristics, are different than expected, as typically happens in video surveillance. Additionally, 3DFR algorithms follow various strategies to address the reconstruction of a 3D shape from 2D data, such as statistical model fitting, photometric stereo, or deep learning. In the present study, we explore the application of three 3DFR algorithms representative of the SOTA, employing each one as the template set generator for a face verification system. The scores provided by each system are combined by score-level fusion. We show that the complementarity induced by different 3DFR algorithms improves performance when tests are conducted at never-seen-before distances from the camera and camera characteristics (cross-distance and cross-camera settings), thus encouraging further investigations on multiple 3DFR-based approaches., Comment: Accepted at T-CAP - Towards a Complete Analysis of People: Fine-grained Understanding for Real-World Applications, workshop in conjunction with the 18th European Conference on Computer Vision ECCV 2024

Abstract

3D face reconstruction algorithms from images and videos are applied to many fields, from plastic surgery to the entertainment sector, thanks to their advantageous features. However, when looking at forensic applications, 3D face reconstruction must observe strict requirements that still make its possible role in bringing evidence to a lawsuit unclear. An extensive investigation of the constraints, potential, and limits of its application in forensics is still missing. Shedding some light on this matter is the goal of the present survey, which starts by clarifying the relation between forensic applications and biometrics, with a focus on face recognition. Therefore, it provides an analysis of the achievements of 3D face reconstruction algorithms from surveillance videos and mugshot images and discusses the current obstacles that separate 3D face reconstruction from an active role in forensic applications. Abstract

To our knowledge, no previous work adopted this relation to make the point on the state of the art. Therefore, we analyzed the achievements of 3D face reconstruction algorithms from surveillance videos and mugshot images and discussed the current obstacles that separate 3D face reconstruction from an active role in forensic applications.

Abstract

Tento článek obsahuje popis vývoje zařízení s metodikou pro transluminaci plicní tkáně s cílem nalezení solitárních plicních uzlů s minimalizací zátěže pro pacienta. Zařízení na prosvětlování plicní tkáně je založeno na infračerveném světle a bronchoskopu (či trokaru), který umožňuje přenos infračerveného záření po průsvitu tkání do kamery. První pokusy byly provedeny na vepřových plicích ex vivo, pokračovali jsme přes vepřové plíce in vivo, nyní se plánuje testování na pacientech.

17. Thermal Imaging Detection System: A Case Study for Indoor Environments

Abstract

Currently, there is an increasing need for reliable mechanisms for automatically detecting and localizing people—from performing a people-flow analysis in museums and controlling smart homes to guarding hazardous areas like railway platforms. A method for detecting people using FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal cameras and Raspberry Pi 3B+ computers was developed. The method creates a control and capture library for the Lepton 3.5 and a new person-detection technique that uses the state-of-the-art YOLO (You Only Look Once) real-time object detector based on deep neural networks. A thermal unit with an automated configuration using Ansible encapsulated in a custom 3D-printed enclosure was used. The unit has applications in simple thermal detection based on the modeling of complex scenes with polygonal boundaries and multiple thermal camera monitoring. An easily deployable person-detection and -localization system based on thermal imaging that supports multiple cameras and can serve as an input for other systems that take actions by knowing the positions of people in monitored environments was created. The thermal detection system was tested on a people-flow analysis performed in the Czech National Museum in Prague. The contribution of the presented method is the development of a small and simple detection system that is easily mountable with wide indoor as well as outdoor applications. The novelty of the system is in the utilization of the YOLO model for thermal data., V současné době je zvýšený zájem o vhodné mechnismy pro automatickou detekci pohybu lidí, od zobrazení pohybu návštěvníků muzea a automatickou kontrolu smart domů až k systémům monitorujícím nebezpečné lokality jako jsou např. železniční nástupiště. Byla stanovena metoda využívající FLIR Lepton 3.5 kamery a Raspberry Pi 3B+. Tato metoda vytváří kontrolní soubor pro Lepton 3.5. Nová metoda využívá YOLO (You Only Look Once) detektor na základě neuronových sítí. Jednotka s automatickou konfigurací využívá Ansible . Tato jednotka má využití pro jednoduchou termo detekci založenou na zobrazování pomocí termo kamery. Tento systém byl testován prostřednictvím detekce pohybu návštěvníků Národního muzea v Praze. Příspěvkem této metody je vývoj jednoduchého detekčního systému využívající YOLO model, který je využitelný pro budovy i venkovní instalalce.

Abstract

Zimmermann-Laband syndrome is a rare genetic disorder. Patients show multiple phenotypic abnormalities, including skeletal abnormalities of fingers and toes and hypoplasia or aplasia of nails. We studied a pair of monozygotic twins with this syndrome, confirmed at the molecular level, and performed a dermatoglyphic analysis. The analysis showed unusually simple patterning on all fingertips of both individuals: all patterns were arches. There were additional anomalies on the palms. The observed anomalies most likely ref lect disharmony in the development of mesodermal structures of the hand caused by the syndrome. Because dermatoglyphs are complex traits, more research is warranted to unravel the relationship between involved genes and palmar patterns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
