In this study, triaminoguanidine complexes grafted onto activated carbon (AC-TAG-Fe and AC-TAG-Co) were designed and investigated for their catalytic effect on the thermolysis of a double base propellant consisting of nitrocellulose (NC) and diethylene glycol dinitrate (DEGDN). The successful synthesis of transition metal complexes with triaminoguanidine and their subsequent grafting onto activated carbon were confirmed using various analytical techniques, including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Thermal characterization using Thermogravimetric Analysis and Differential Scanning Calorimetry provided valuable insights into the thermal properties and reactivity of the elaborated NC/DEGDN-based composites. Importantly, the addition of various additives resulted in notable improvements in both the enthalpy of reaction and density. Isoconversional kinetic studies revealed that the incorporation of TAG-Fe and TAG-Co complexes reduced the apparent activation energy of the NC/DEGDN composite from 137.4 kJ/mol to 135.4 kJ/mol and 114.8 kJ/mol, respectively, suggesting their catalytic effect. Furthermore, it is found that the addition of activated carbon (AC) resulted in an increase in activation energy to 154 kJ/mol, whereas grafting TAG-Fe and TAG-Co complexes onto AC as a catalytic support subsequently reduced activation energy to 119 kJ/mol and 112 kJ/mol, respectively. The transition metal complexes of triaminoguanidine (TAGwhere M = Cobalt (Co) or Iron (Fe)) have been prepared. The catalytic effect of these complexes on the thermolysis of energetic composite based on nitrocellulose and diethylene glycol dinitrate? has been investigated. Extensive characterization of the resulting energetic composites was carried out sing scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Isoconversional kinetic analysis was performed to determine the Arrhenius parameters associated with the thermolysis of the elaborated energetic formulations. It is found that TAG-M complexes have strong catalytic effect on the thermokinetic decomposition of NC/DEGDN by decreasing the apparent activation energy and significantly increased the total heat release. The models that govern the decomposition processes are also studied, and it is revealed that different react io n processes are accomplished by introduction metal complexes of triaminoguanidine. In this study, a core-shell structure of MgAl-CuO nanothermite coated with ammonium perchlorate (KClO4@MgAl-CuO) has been successfully prepared by a solvent/non-solvent synthetic method, and its catalytic influence on the thermo-kinetic behavior of nitrated cellulose (NC)/diethylene glycol dinitrate (DEGDN) composite has been studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) combined with three isoconversional kinetic models. Beforehand, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) findings showed that the prepared KClO4@MgAl-CuO particles were uniformly distributed within the NC/DEGDN matrix. Moreover, the obtained DSC thermograms indicated that the thermolysis of the developed NC/DEGDN composite was shifted to a lower temperature after the incorporation of the coated nanothermite. Additionally, a significant decrease in the activation energy (from approximately 136 to 94 kJ/mol) was also observed, demonstrating that the presence of the KClO4@MgAl-CuO nanothermite catalyzed the decomposition of NC/DEGDN propellant. Therefore, this study could serve as a reference for future research on the coated metastable intermolecular composites and their effects on double-base propellants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
