The holographic light-front QCD framework provides a unified nonperturbative description of the hadron mass spectrum, form factors and quark distributions. In this article we extend holographic QCD in order to describe the gluonic distribution in both the proton and pion from the coupling of the metric fluctuations induced by the spin-two Pomeron with the energy momentum tensor in anti--de Sitter space, together with constraints imposed by the Veneziano model{\color{blue},} without additional free parameters. Supersymmetric Light Front Holographic QCD is a holographic theory, which not only describes the spectroscopy of mesons and baryons, but also predicts the existence and spectroscopy of tetraquarks. A discussion of the limitations of the theory is also presented., Comment: one reference added

The topical workshop {\it Strong QCD from Hadron Structure Experiments} took place at Jefferson Lab from Nov. 6-9, 2019. Impressive progress in relating hadron structure observables to the strong QCD mechanisms has been achieved from the {\it ab initio} QCD description of hadron structure in a diverse array of methods in order to expose emergent phenomena via quasi-particle formation. The wealth of experimental data and the advances in hadron structure theory make it possible to gain insight into strong interaction dynamics in the regime of large quark-gluon coupling (the strong QCD regime), which will address the most challenging problems of the Standard Model on the nature of the dominant part of hadron mass, quark-gluon confinement, and the emergence of the ground and excited state hadrons, as well as atomic nuclei, from QCD. This workshop aimed to develop plans and to facilitate the future synergistic efforts between experimentalists, phenomenologists, and theorists working on studies of hadron spectroscopy and structure with the goal to connect the properties of hadrons and atomic nuclei available from data to the strong QCD dynamics underlying their emergence from QCD. The aim of these lectures is to convey a working knowledge of Light Front Holographic QCD and Supersymmetric Light Front Holographic QCD. We first give an overview of holographic QCD in general and then concentrate on the application of the holographic methods on QCD quantized in the light front form. We show how the implementation of the supersymmetric algebra fixes the interaction and how one can obtain hadron mass spectra with the minimal number of parameters. We also treat propagators and compare the holographic approach with other non-perturbative methods. In the last chapter we describe the application of Light Front Holographic QCD to electromagnetic form factors.

A primary question in hadron physics is how the mass scale for hadrons consisting of light quarks, such as the proton, emerges from the QCD Lagrangian even in the limit of zero quark mass. If one requires the effective action which underlies the QCD Lagrangian to remain conformally invariant and extends the formalism of de Alfaro, Fubini and Furlan to light-front Hamiltonian theory, then a unique, color-confining potential with a mass parameter $\kappa$ emerges. The actual value of the parameter $\kappa$ is not set by the model - only ratios of hadron masses and other hadronic mass scales are predicted. The result is a nonperturbative, relativistic light-front quantum mechanical wave equation, the Light-Front Schr\"odinger Equation which incorporates color confinement and other essential spectroscopic and dynamical features of hadron physics, including a massless pion for zero quark mass and linear Regge trajectories with the identical slope in the radial quantum number $n$ and orbital angular momentum $L$. The same light-front equations for mesons with spin $J$ also can be derived from the holographic mapping to QCD (3+1) at fixed light-front time from the soft-wall model modification of AdS$_5$ space with a specific dilaton profile. Light-front holography thus provides a precise relation between the bound-state amplitudes in the fifth dimension of AdS space and the boost-invariant light-front wavefunctions describing the internal structure of hadrons in physical space-time. One can also extend the analysis to baryons using superconformal algebra - $2 \times 2$ supersymmetric representations of the conformal group. The resulting fermionic LF bound-state equations predict striking similarities between the meson and baryon spectra. The energy dependence of the cross sections for electromagnetic diffractive processes can be well described by a single power, $W^\delta$. For $J/\psi$ photoproduction this holds in the range from 20 GeV to 2 TeV. This feature is most easily explained by a single pole in the angular momentum plane which depends on the scale of the process, at least in a certain range of values of the momentum transfer. It is shown that this assumption allows a unified description of all electromagnetic elastic diffractive processes. We test the hypothesis that diffractive scattering in the perturbative and non-perturbative domain is determined by the exchange of a single pomeron with a scale dependent trajectory. Present data on diffractive vector meson production are well compatible with this model and recent results for $J/\psi$ photoproduction at LHC strongly support it. We study universality in the electroproduction of vector mesons using a unified nonperturbative approach which has already proved to reproduce extremely well the available experimental data. In this framework, after the extraction of factors that are specific of each vector meson, we arrive at a reduced integrated elastic cross section which is universal. We discuss various aspects of vector meson production, first analysing the interplay between perturbative and nonperturbative aspects of the QCD calculation. Using a general method adapted to incorporate both perturbative and nonpertubative aspects, we show that nonperturbative effects are important for all experimentally available values of the photon virtuality Q2. We compare the huge amount of experimental information now available with our theoretical results obtained using a specific nonperturbative model without free parameters, showing that quite simple features are able to explain the data., Comment: 19 pages

In contrast to theoretical expectations, experimental results at sqrt(s)=200 GeV for the reaction gamma p --> pi0 X show no evidence for odderon exchange. The upper limit on the cross section is an order of magnitude smaller than the theoretical estimate. It is argued that chiral symmetry leads to a large suppression, taking the thoeretical estimates well below the data. Two additional arguments are presented which may decrease the theoretical estimate further. The calculations are more sensitive to the assumptions made in evaluating the hadronic scattering amplitude than in the processes considered previously and lattice gauge calculations indicate that the odderon intercept may be appreciably lower than usually assumed. These two latter effects are particularly relevant for the reactions gamma p --> f2(1270)X and gamma p --> a2(1320)X for which the data upper limits are also below the theoretical predictions, but not so dramatically as for gamma p --> pi0 X., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

A nonperturbative calculation of elastic electroproduction of the J/psi meson is presented and compared to the experimental data. Our model describes well the observed dependences of the cross sections on the photon virtuality Q2 and on the energy, and the measured ratio R of longitudinal to transverse cross sections., Comment: Five *.eps figures

We present a nonperturbative QCD calculation of elastic $J/\psi$ meson production in photon-proton scattering at high energies. Using light cone wave functions of the photon and vector mesons, and the framework of the model of the stochastic QCD vacuum, we calculate the differential and integrated elastic cross sections for $\gamma p \goto J/\psi p $ . With an energy dependence following the two-pomeron model we are able to give a consistent description of the integrated cross sections and the differential cross sections at low $|t|$ in the range from 20 GeV up to the highest HERA energies. We discuss different approaches to introduce saturation and find no specific effects up to energies presently available. We compute the chromo-field distributions of static color-dipoles in the fundamental and adjoint representation of SU(Nc) in the loop-loop correlation model and find Casimir scaling in agreement with recent lattice results. Our model combines perturbative gluon exchange with the non-perturbative stochastic vacuum model which leads to confinement of the color-charges in the dipole via a string of color-fields. We compute the energy stored in the confining string and use low-energy theorems to show consistency with the static quark-antiquark potential. We generalize Meggiolaro's analytic continuation from parton-parton to gauge-invariant dipole-dipole scattering and obtain a Euclidean approach to high-energy scattering that allows us in principle to calculate S-matrix elements directly in lattice simulations of QCD. We apply this approach and compute the S-matrix element for high-energy dipole-dipole scattering with the presented Euclidean loop-loop correlation model. The result confirms the analytic continuation of the gluon field strength correlator used in all earlier applications of the stochastic vacuum model to high-energy scattering., Comment: 65 pages, 13 figures, extended and revised version to be published in Phys. We summarize the different features which show that QCD spectral sum rule analyses of the scalar two- and three-point functions do not favour the $\bar uu+\bar dd$ interpretation of the broad and low mass $\sigma (0.6)$ and emphasize that a measurement of the $D_s$ semileptonic decays into $\pi\pi$ can reveal in a model-independent way its eventual gluon component $\sigma_B$. The analysis also implies that one expects an observation of the $K\bar K$ final states from the $\sigma_B$ which may compete (if phase space allowed) with the one from a low mass $\bar ss$ state assumed in the literature to be the SU(3) partner of the observed $\sigma (0.6)$ if the latter is a $\bar uu+\bar dd$ state, Comment: 6 pages latex file. 4 fig.eps

We present the perturbative and non-perturbative QCD structure of the dipole-dipole scattering amplitude in momentum space. The perturbative contribution is described by two-gluon exchange and the non-perturbative contribution by the stochastic vacuum model which leads to confinement of the quark and antiquark in the dipole via a string of color fields. This QCD string gives important non-perturbative contributions to high-energy reactions. A new structure different from the perturbative dipole factors is found in the string-string scattering amplitude. The string can be represented as an integral over stringless dipoles with a given dipole number density. This decomposition of the QCD string into dipoles allows us to calculate the unintegrated gluon distribution of hadrons and photons from the dipole-hadron and dipole-photon cross section via kT-factorization., Comment: 43 pages, 14 figures

The (lns)**2 behaviour of total cross-sections, first obtained by Heisenberg 50 years ago, receives now increased interest both on phenomenological and theoretical levels. In this paper we present a modification of the Heisenberg's model in connection with the presence of glueballs and we show that it leads to a realistic description of all existing hadron total cross-section data., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Semileptonic decays of D-mesons into scalar hadronic states are investigated. Two extreme cases are considered: a) the meson decays directly into an uncorrelated scalar state of two two mesons and b) the decay proceeds via resonance formation. We present a model based on a dipole picture with a hard and a soft pomeron in which large dipoles couple to the soft pomeron and small dipoles couple to the hard pomeron. The parameters in the model are fixed by proton-proton scattering and the proton structure function. The model is then applied successfully to the proton charm structure function, the proton longitudinal structure function, J/psi photoproduction, deep virtual Compton scattering, the real photon-proton total cross section, the real photon-photon cross section, and the photon structure function. Differences between our predictions and data on charm production in real photon-photon interactions and the virtual gamma-gamma cross section are discussed., Comment: 30 pages, 18 figures

We examine diffractive proton-proton scattering p p -> p X and photo- and electroproduction of \rho^0 mesons \gamma^(*) p -> \rho^0 X, where X denotes a proton or a final state, into which the proton can go by diffractive dissociation. Using a functional integral approach we derive the scattering amplitudes, which are governed by the expectation values of light-like Wegner-Wilson loops, which are then evaluated using the model of the stochastic vacuum. For the proton, we assume a quark-diquark structure. From the scattering amplitudes we calculate total and differential cross sections for high centre of mass energy and small momentum transfer and compare with experiments. Predictions for deep Virtual Compton Scattering are obtained in a two-component dipole model of diffraction. The model automatically includes hard and soft components and implicitly allows for ``hadronic'' contributions via large dipoles. This review is aimed to demonstrate the basics and use of formalism of gauge-invariant nonlocal correlators in nonabelian gauge theories. Many phenomenologically interesting nonperturbative aspects of gluodynamics and QCD can be described in terms of correlators of the nonabelian field strength tensors. It is explained how the properties of correlator ensemble encode the structure of QCD vacuum and determine different nonperturbative observables. It is argued that in gluodynamics and QCD the dominant role is played by the lowest nontrivial two-point correlator (Gaussian dominance). Lattice measurements of field correlators are discussed. Important for the formalism theoretical tools, such as nonabelian Stokes theorem, background perturbation theory, cluster expansion, as well as phenomenological applications to the heavy quarkonium dynamics and QCD phase transition are reviewed., Comment: LaTeX, 77 pages, 7 eps-figures

Taking the gauge invariant quark correlator as an example, in this work we perform a direct comparison of lattice QCD simulations with the QCD sum rule approach. The quark correlator is first investigated in the framework of QCD sum rules and the correlation length of the quark field is calculated. Comparing the phenomenological part of the sum rule with previous measurements of the quark correlator on the lattice, we are able to obtain an independent result for the correlation length. From a fit of the lattice data to the operator product expansion, the quark condensate and the mixed quark-gluon condensate can be extracted., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures, JHEP style

In this work an extension of the Gaussian model of the stochastic vacuum is presented. It consists of including higher cumulants than just the second one in the cluster expansion in QCD. The influence of nonabelian fourth cumulants on the potential of a static quark-antiquarkpair is examined and the formation of flux tubes between a static $q\bar{q}$-pair is investigated. It is found that the fourth cumulants can contribute to chromomagnetic flux tubes. Furthermore the contribution of fourth cumulants to the total cross section of soft high energy hadron-hadron scattering is examined and it is found that the fourth cumulants do not change the general picture obtained in the Gaussian model., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

We calculate high-energy photoproduction of the tensor meson $f_2(1270)$ by odderon and photon exchange in the reaction $\gamma + {\rm{p}} \to f_2(1270) + {\rm{X}}$, where X is either the nucleon or the sum of the N(1520) and N(1535) baryon resonances. Odderon exchange dominates except at very small transverse momentum, and we find a cross section of about 20 nb at a centre-of-mass energy of 20 GeV. This result is compared with what is currently known experimentally about $f_2$ photoproduction. We conclude that odderon exchange is not ruled out by present data. On the contrary, an odderon-induced cross section of the above magnitude may help to explain a puzzling result observed by the E687 experiment., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures

The interaction of the partonic fluctuation of the virtual photon in deep inelastic scattering with soft color fields describing the hadron is treated in an eikonal approximation. It is known that, in this approach, the small-x limit of the leading-order gluon distribution xg(x,Q^2) is a constant characterizing the averaged local field strength in the target. Matching the next-to-leading order calculation in this semiclassical framework with the one-loop parton model result, we obtain the next-to-leading order contribution to xg(x,Q^2). It shows a ln(1/x) enhancement at small x and is sensitive to the large distance structure of the target. The final expression is a simple integral over non-Abelian eikonal factors measuring the target color field. We derive a quantitative relation between the short-distance cutoff of this integral and the scale of the gluon distribution function in the MS-bar scheme. The total hadronic gamma*gamma* cross sections at high energy are calculated as a function of energy and photon virtuality in a model combining Regge exchange, the quark box diagram (a fixed pole in Regge language) and soft and hard pomeron exchanges evaluated in the context of dipole-dipole scattering. Good agreement is obtained with the data for the real gamma-gamma cross section and for the real photon structure function. However the model prediction for the gamma* gamma* cross section is too small. This is attributed to an incorrect extrapolation of the Q^2 dependence of the hard pomeron adopted here. Parametrising it independently shows that the hard part of the cross section can be well represented by a simple Regge pole with intercept ~ 1.3., Comment: 21 pages, 5 figures

QCD sum rules for the determination of form factors of $\Lambda_b$ and $\Lambda_c$ semileptonic decays are investigated. With a form for the baryonic current appropriate for the limits of the heavy quark symmetries, the different tensor structures occurring in the two- and three-point functions are separately studied, and in each case general relations are written for the form factors. Particular attention is given to the treatment of the kinematical region ascribed to the continuum. The $t$-dependence of the form factors and the decay rates are numerically evaluated and compared to experimental information., Comment: 45 pages, 14 figures

We investigate the reaction $e p \to e PS X$ where PS denotes a pseudoscalar meson $\pi^0, \eta, \eta'$, or $\eta_c$ and X either a proton or resonance or continuum states into which the proton can go by diffractive excitation. At high energies photon and odderon exchange contribute to the reaction. The photon exchange contribution is evaluated exactly using data for the total virtual photon-proton absorption cross section. The odderon exchange contribution is calculated in nonperturbative QCD, using functional integral techniques and the model of the stochastic vacuum. For the proton we assume a quark-diquark structure as suggested by the small odderon amplitude in $pp$ and $p \bar{p}$ forward scattering. We show that odderon exchange leads to a much larger inelastic than elastic PS production cross section. Observation of our reaction at HERA would establish the soft odderon as an exchange object on an equal footing with the soft pomeron and would give us valuable insight into both the nucleon structure and the mechanism of high energy diffractive scattering., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures

The gauge invariant two-point correlator for the gluon field strength tensor is analysed by means of the QCD sum rule method. To this end, we make use of a relation of this correlator to a two-point function for a quark-gluon hybrid in the limit of the quark mass going to infinity. Cross sections for the reactions gamma^(*) gamma^(*) --> hadrons and gamma^(*) gamma^(*) --> 2 vector mesons are calculated as functions of energy (sqrt(s) > 20 GeV) and photon virtualities. Good agreement with experiment is obtained for the total hadronic cross section and, after allowing for a valence-quark contribution from the hadronic part of the photon, with the photon structure function at small x. The cross section for vector meson production are shown to be experimentally accessible for moderate values of Q^2. We calculate diffractive photo- and leptoproduction of $\rho$-, $\rho'$- and $\rho''$-mesons. The incoming photon dissociates into a $q\bar{q}$-dipole which scatters on the nucleon and transforms into a vector meson state. The scattering amplitude is calculated in non-perturbative QCD with the model of the stochastic vacuum. Assuming that the physical $\rho'$- and $\rho''$-mesons are mixed states of an active 2S-excitation and some residual hybrid state which cannot be produced diffractively in lowest order QCD, we obtain good agreement with the data, especially the markedly different spectrum in the $\pi^+\pi^-$-invariant mass for photoproduction and $e^+e^-$-annihilation., Comment: 28 pages, LaTeX2e, 16 ps/eps figures included, accepted for publication in Eur.Phys.J.C; revised v2: one reference added, one typo corrected

We investigate contributions to diffractive scattering, which are odd under C- and P-parity. Comparison of p-$\bar p$ and p-p scattering indicates that these odderon contributions are very small and we show how a diquark clustering in the proton can explain this effect. A good probe for the odderon exchange is the photo- and electroproduction of pseudo-scalar mesons. We concentrate on the pi^0 and show that the quasi elastic pi^0-production is again strongly suppressed for a diquark structure of the proton whereas the cross sections for diffractive proton dissociation are larger by orders of magnitude and rather independent of the proton structure., Comment: 18 pages, LaTex2e, graphicx package, 14 eps figures included

We establish a relation between the two-point field strength correlator in QCD and the dual field propagator of an effective dual Abelian Higgs model describing the infrared behaviour of QCD. We find an analytic approximation to the dual field propagator without sources and in presence of quark sources. In the latter situation we also obtain an expression for the static $q \bar{q}$ potential. Our derivation sheds some light on the dominance and phenomenological relevance of the two-point field strength correlator., Comment: 28 pages, 1 figure, RevTeX

We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark effective theory. For the semileptonic $\La_c$ decay we obtain a reasonable agreement with experiment. We select sum rules from which one can extract directly reliable limits on the size of the chiral symmetry breaking light quark condensate $<\bar\psi\psi>$. Combined results from the nucleon and $B^*-B$ mass-splitting sum rules give a result compatible with the standard value: $<\bar\psi\psi> (1 GeV) \simeq (-229 MeV)^3$, through the determinations of the quark-gluon mixed condensate. The vector form factor of the $D\rar K^*l\nu$ semi-leptonic decay leads to the range $0.6\leq <\bar\psi\psi> (-229 MeV)^3 \leq 1.5$. The upper limit combined with the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner (GMOR) relation implies the interesting lower bound on the sum of light quark masses:$(m_u+m_d) (1 GeV) \geq$ 9.4 MeV, which combined with the ratio of light quark masses from chiral perturbation theory leads to $m_s (1 GeV) \geq (121\pm 12)$ MeV. The lower limit combined with the positivity of the $m_q^2$ contribution to the GMOR relation leads to the upper bound : $(m_u+m_d) (1 GeV) \leq$ 15.7 MeV, which is independent on the nature of chiral symmetry breaking., Comment: Minor modifications and corrections. The corelation masses of the 3-dimensional SU(2)-Higgs-model are calculated from the bound state Green's function. For a heavy-light and a light-light system the results are reported. We determine the diffractive scattering amplitude of a color-dipole on a nucleon using a non-perturbative model of QCD which contains only parameters taken from low-energy physics. This allows to relate specific features of the confinement mechanisms with diffractive electro-production processes and structure functions. One of the challenging aspects of electroproduction at high-energy is the understanding of the transition from real photons to virtual photons in the GeV^2 region. We study inclusive electroproduction on the proton at small x_B using a nonperturbative dipole-proton cross section calculated from the gauge invariant gluon field correlators as input. By quark-hadron duality, we construct a photon light cone wave function which links the ``hadronic'' behavior at small Q^2 to the ``perturbative'' behavior at large Q^2. It contains quark masses which implement the transition from constituent quarks at low Q^2 to current quarks at high Q^2. Our calculation gives a good description of the structure function at fixed energy for Q^2<=10 GeV^2. Indications for a chiral transition may already have been seen in the photon-proton cross section., Comment: 28 pages, LaTeX, epsf

The effective action describing the long range fluctuations in the high temperature phase of the electroweak standard theory is a strongly coupled SU(2)-Higgs-model in three dimensions. We outline in detail a model in which the spatial correlation scales in this phase are calculated as inverse relativistic bound state masses. Selection rules for these states are derived. The correlation masses are calculated by evaluating the bound state Green's function. The scalar-scalar-potential and its influence on the masses is investigated. We present a nonperturbative QCD calculation of diffractive vector meson production in virtual photon nucleon scattering at high energy. We use the nonperturbative model of the stochastic QCD vacuum which yields linear confinement and makes specific predictions for the dependence of high-energy scattering cross sections on the hadron size. Using light cone wave functions of the photon and vector mesons, we calculate electroproduction cross sections for $\rho$, $\omega$, $\phi$ and $J/\psi$. We emphasize the behavior of specific observables such as the ratio of longitudinal to transverse production cross section and the t-dependence of the differential cross section., Comment: 28 pages LaTeX type and 17 Postscript figures uuencoded, uses epsfig. If the pomeron is generated by a two gluon exchange there is no a priori reason for a drastic suppression of three gluon exchange with negative parity and charge parity. This would lead to an unacceptably large difference between $p\,p$ and $p\, \bar{p}$ scattering. To leading order in $\alpha_s$, we evaluate the leading and non-leading $1/M_b$ corrections to the $B^*B\pi$ and $B^*B\gamma$ couplings using QCD spectral moment sum rules in the full theory. We find that, for large $M_b$ and contrary to the heavy-to-light $B\rar \pi(\rho) l\bar \nu$ form factors, which are dominated by the $soft$ light quark vacuum condensate, these couplings are governed by the $hard$ perturbative graph, like other heavy-to-heavy transitions. We also find that for the $B^{*}\rar B\gamma$, the $1/M_b$ correction is mainly due to the perturbative and light quark condensate contributions originating from the graphs involving the heavy quark part of the electromagnetic current, which are essential for explaining the large charge dependence in the observed $D^{*-}\rar D^-\gamma$ and $D^{*0}\rar D^0\gamma$ decays. Our $best$ numerical predictions {\it without any free parameters} for the $B^*$-meson are: $g_{B^{*-}B^0\pi^-}\simeq 14\pm 4$, $\Gamma_{B^{*-}\rar B^-\gamma}\simeq (0.10\pm 0.03)$ keV and the large charge dependence of the ratio: ${\Gamma_{B^{*-}\rar B^- \gamma}}/ {\Gamma_{B^{*0}\rar B^0 \gamma}}\simeq 2.5~$. For the $D^*$-meson, we find: $\Gamma_{D^{*-}\rar D^0\pi^-}\simeq 1.54\Gamma_{D^{*0}\rar D^0\pi^0} \simeq (8\pm 5)$ keV, $\Gamma_{D^{*-}\rar D^-\gamma}\simeq (0.09^{+0.40}_{-0.07} )$ keV and $\Gamma_{D^{*0}\rar D^0\gamma}\simeq (3.7\pm 1.2)$ keV, where the branching ratios agree within the errors with the present data, while the total widths $\Gamma_{D^{*0}\rar all} \simeq (11\pm 4)$ keV and $\Gamma_{D^{*-}\rar all}\simeq (12\pm 7)$ keV are much smaller than the present experimental upper limits., Comment: published version to appear in Phys. The high temperature phase of the electroweak standard theory is described by a strongly coupled SU(2)-Higgs-model in three dimensions. As in the Abbott-Farhi-model Higgs and W-boson are low lying bound states. Using a method by Simonov based on the Feynman-Schwinger representation of correlators we calculate the masses of these states.
