The history of educational technology is replete with stories of mostly White men who have conducted some of the leading innovations in the field. The stories of educational technologists from minority backgrounds have largely gone untold, perhaps giving the false impression that such individuals were not involved in this field. This article recounts the stories of several leading African American innovators. These individuals did cutting-edge work and worked with well-known researchers from the 1960s to the present day, but their work has largely gone unnoticed by educational technology researchers and developers. These narratives provoke us to reconsider the meaning, scope, and purpose of educational technology as they collectively describe how the desire of a few individuals to use technology to educate and empower the underserved was intertwined with the African American struggle for civil rights.

Purpose: One of the issues faced by the managers of production and commercial organizations, which generally requires making challenging decisions with high risk and fast, is removing the product. Removal of a product for various reasons such as its life cycle status, entry of similar products and loss of market, lack of technical and economic justification for continuing its production and supply or the decision to enter newer products, product diversity, competition, activities of companies in the innovative environment. The weakness of the product is placed on the agenda of an organization. This research aims to "investigate the factors that determine the decision-making speed in the process (adoption and implementation) of the decision to remove the product in the cosmetics industry.Methodology: This was applied research using a descriptive-analytical design, and a survey method; the study was causal in nature. The questionnaire validity using validity and factorAnalysis and reliability was approved by reported of total Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0/834). The study population included the managers and administrators of Zarrin Cellulose Saveh Company in 2016. Suitable descriptive and inferential statistics, and SPSS and PLS, were used for data analysis.Findings: The findings suggest that structural-temporal characteristics, decision-specific factors and environmental have a significant effect on the speed of Product Elimination Decision-Making (PEDM) process. The PEDM decentralization at the tactical level, centralization of PEDM power, polychronicity, and environmental turbulence have a positive and significant effect on the speed of PEDM process. The polychronicity reinforces the positive effect of decentralization at the tactical level on the speed of PEDM process. The product significance in the company's image and history and environmental complexity has a negative and significant effect on its speed. The speed of PE decision process for products in their birth and growth stage is more than those in their maturity and decline stage. The environmental complexity weakens the positive effect of polychronicity on the speed of PEDM process. Environmental turbulence weakens the negative effect of environmental complexity on the PE decision-reaching speed, but has no effects on the PE implementation speed.Originality/Value: The output of this research is to determine the effective factors in the speed of decision-making in the process (adoption and implementation) of the product removal decision in the cosmetics industry.

Objective: Knowledge management is the process and the collection of methods relating to creating, organizing, sharing, using and managing the knowledge and information of an organization. knowledge management Contains maintaining information in a knowledgebase where it is easy to access. Also, it refers to a multidisciplinary approach to achieve organizational goals by Optimal use of knowledge. Much organisational effort has been put into knowledge management initiatives and information technologies can provide a potent means for organizations to manage their Organizational information and experiences. Creating, gathering, organizing and disseminating organizational information is one of the main activities of knowledge management. The current research was conducted with the aim of applying knowledge management in promoting and improving the educational status of managers and employees of Islamic Azad University, Bandar Abbas branch. Methodology: This research is of an applied type, which was carried out in a survey and descriptive manner. The statistical population includes all managers and employees of Islamic Azad University, Bandar Abbas branch, according to Cochran's formula, 15 managers, 93 female employees and 107 male employees were considered as samples. The sampling method in both groups of managers and employees was random-stratified. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. In this research, descriptive methods were used to analyze the data obtained from the questionnaires. At the descriptive level, using characteristics such as abundance was dealt with the analysis of the characteristics of the society and Kolmogorov-Smirnov's normal test were used to examine the hypotheses, binomial test. Findings: The findings showed that knowledge management is effective in promoting and improving the educational status of managers and employees of Islamic Azad University, Bandar Abbas branch. Also, creating knowledge with an average of 40.09, absorbing knowledge with an average of 26.74, and organizing knowledge with an average of 36.81 have a confirming role in promoting and improving the educational status of managers and employees of Islamic Azad University, Bandar Abbas Branch. Conclusion: Information sharing, collection of professional experiences, organizational interaction at different levels of the university along with creativity of methods and application of information systems play an important role in the development of knowledge management system. Better understanding of knowledge management by employees and specialists, holding knowledge management training courses and workshops, using a comprehensive knowledge management measurement system, creating a knowledge base to organize organizational information, launching a system of suggestions to strengthen the educational process and benefit from organizational experiences, using technologies Up-to-date for optimal management of organizational information and continuous assessment of knowledge management status is one of the suggestions of this research.

Purpose: The libraries of medical sciences universities have much more diverse goals and services than can be publically conceived, so providing services related to information resources is one of the most important challenges facing these organizations.Method: The present study is an applied research based on its purpose and descriptive-analytical as regards method. The study utilized the semi-structured interview method to obtain the factors affecting the provision of health information resources services. Sampling was conducted based on a purposeful method and experts’ viewpoints. The sampling was carried out the fuzzy Delphi technique which aimed to provide a solution for the issues. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to check the factors obtained from 62 central libraries of medical sciences.Findings: In general, six types of services were determined as health information resource services in specific central libraries, including tools for exploring the online book registration network, selection tools, interlibrary loan, free educational tools, additional book publishing tests, and content evaluation. Additionally, eight factors were identified, including providing services of specialized bibliographic review by librarians, consultation services to users, dissemination and provision of selective information services on Persian and Non-Persian sources, overcoming the weaknesses of librarians without library education, increasing the diversity of medical sciences library services, utilizing new technologies to compensate for deficiencies and lack of resources, improving the social function of the library as a social institution, and offering various electronic services such as databases and digital resources. These identified factors were found to influence the provision of health information resources.Conclusion: Various factors may affect the provision of health information resources services in universities of medical sciences, most importantly improvement of the social functions of libraries.

Purpose: Information literacy involves a range of skills such as recognizing information needs, understanding information production and value, and using information to generate new knowledge ethically. It is essential for individuals to locate, evaluate, and utilize information effectively to become lifelong learners. This research aims to investigate how education influences the information literacy abilities of out-of-school children in accessing digital libraries and databases.Methodology: This study utilized a Semi-experimental research design and survey method. Initial theoretical studies were conducted, and five information literacy standards were compared to develop a new pattern. The population consisted of 195 dropouts from two schools - Moshtaq in Kerman and Arslan Boys in Rafsanjan. The sample size of 120 individuals was selected using a simple random method, with 100 students completing the questionnaire. Survey data was analyzed before and after information literacy training over one semester using a checklist with five components and 15 indicators. Reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha, which yielded a value of 0.851.Findings: The study revealed that digital libraries and databases were available to a favorable extent, with a 2.935 percent availability rate. Prior to training, students showed a 2.125 percent proficiency in locating information in digital resources, which improved to 2.45 percent post-training. Additionally, students demonstrated an average skill level of 2.38 in utilizing full-text databases within digital libraries. Conclusion: The research underscored the importance of education in enhancing information literacy skills, particularly in the areas of information retrieval and selection, database usage, and critical evaluation of online sources. Recommendations included teaching students how to identify reliable information sources, conduct effective information searches, and utilize various search operators for refining search results.Value: The novelty of the research lies in its examination of the Impact of Education on Information Literacy Skills of Dropout Students in Utilizing Digital Libraries and Databases through a Semi-experimental research design.

An important part of research is situating one's work in a body of existing literature, thereby connecting to existing ideas. Despite this, the various kinds of relationships that might exist among academic literature do not appear to have been formally studied. Here I present a graphical representation of academic work in terms of entities and relations, drawing on structure-mapping theory (used in the study of analogies). I then use this representation to present a typology of operations that could relate two pieces of academic work. I illustrate the various types of relationships with examples from medicine, physics, psychology, history and philosophy of science, machine learning, education, and neuroscience. The resulting typology not only gives insights into the relationships that might exist between static publications, but also the rich process whereby an ongoing research project evolves through interactions with the research literature.

Baker et al. (2021) recently proposed using a philosophical framework to classify learning analytics research in terms of four paradigms. Here I build on their theme of reflecting on philosophical differences in different approaches to learning analytics. I first present two limitations of their classification, which raise questions for how to best classify different approaches in learning analytics. In an attempt to resolve these questions, I draw upon the bias-variance tradeoff from machine learning and show how different learning analytics approaches can be viewed in terms of their positions on the tradeoff. However, I claim that this is not enough, as we must also be attuned to the underlying epistemologies behind different approaches. I claim a constructivist epistemology for learning analytics has been missing, which could, in part, explain Baker et al.'s (2021) observation that constructivist work has been relatively absent in established learning analytics research communities. Drawing on prior work from different fields, I present a sketch of what a constructivist data science philosophy might look like and how it could help advance learning analytics. Sitting at the nexus of the learning sciences and machine learning, the field of learning analytics is in a unique position to theorize about philosophy and epistemology; this paper encourages us to pursue more work in such a direction.

Clerkships are defining experiences for medical students in which students integrate basic science knowledge with clinical information as they gain experience in diagnosing and treating patients in a variety of clinical settings. Among the basic sciences, there is broad agreement that anatomy is foundational for medical practice. Unfortunately, there are longstanding concerns that student knowledge of anatomy is below the expectations of clerkship directors and clinical faculty. Most allopathic medical schools require eight "core" clerkships: internal medicine (IM), pediatrics (PD), general surgery (GS), obstetrics and gynecology (OB), psychiatry (PS), family medicine (FM), neurology (NU), and emergency medicine (EM). A targeted needs assessment was conducted to determine the anatomy considered important for each core clerkship based on the perspective of clinicians teaching in those clerkships. A total of 525 clinical faculty were surveyed at 24 United States allopathic medical schools. Participants rated 97 anatomical structure groups across all body regions on a 1-4 Likert-type scale (1 = not important, 4 = essential). Non-parametric ANOVAs determined if differences existed between clerkships. Combining all responses, 91% of anatomical structure groups were classified as "essential" or "more important." Clinicians in FM, EM, and GS rated anatomical structures in most body regions significantly higher than at least one other clerkship (p = 0.006). This study provides an evidence-base of anatomy content that should be considered important for each core clerkship and may assist in the development and/or revision of preclinical curricula to support the clinical training of medical students.

When the Learning Sciences emerged in 1991, there was an ethos of studying learning in humans and machines in conjunction with one another. This ethos reflected three decades of prior work on the interdisciplinary study of learning; however, in the three decades since the emergence of the Learning Sciences, it seems to have largely disappeared. I begin by describing the ethos that was prevalent in 1991 using quotations from the inaugural editorial of the "Journal of the Learning Sciences." I then describe how this ethos was prevalent decades before the Learning Sciences in four distinct approaches to cognitive science research, which I call the "Four C's"--cognitivism, constructivism, cybernetics, and connectionism. I suggest three reasons why the Learning Sciences moved away from the use of artificial intelligence as a central tool for thinking about learning, noting that these reasons do not suggest a fundamental incompatibility between the two. I end by discussing how Learning Scientists might once again embrace artificial intelligence and computational modeling and use them as tools for gaining insight into the constructivist, situated, and socio-cultural nature of learning.

Objectives: There are so many names to refer to the discipline that investigates alternative futures. futures studies, foresight, futures literacy, futures thinking, anticipation, futurism, futurology, and many others. Future studies that can also be referred to as future science seeks to analyze resources, models, and reasons of a subject's change or stability in order to develop and expand the scope of foresight, and consider different options and possibilities. Also, futures study of postulating possible, probable, and preferable futures and the worldviews that underlie them. It can be considered as a branch of the social sciences and parallel to the field of history. Futurology is the systematic, interdisciplinary and holistic study of social, technological advancement, and other environmental trends. This research aims to future-studying in public libraries and its role in their development and progress with an emphasis on the libraries covered by Iran Public Libraries Foundation. Methodology:It is among future research methods, scenario planning, road map, Landscape, modeling, simulation and Delphi. The method of research in this research is surveying and descriptive using interview and questionnaire through Delphi approach. A questionnaire was first used to collect data, and then face-to-face interviews were used with 11 people for some issues and to complete the opinions. The questionnaire was distributed among the statistical population of the research in three periods. Regarding determining the validity of the research tool, the problems in the questionnaire were identified and resolved by using the opinion of a number of experts in the field of information science. Sampling was done based on the structure of the Delphi method and data analysis was done. The reliability of the research tool was determined by Cronbach's alpha test at 0.810. Findings: Using the gained results from interviewee's findings, a series of elements which are effective on library and especially development are extracted such as: internet, digitalization, updating the library system, using librarians and experts, economic conditions, virtual reference services, serials and open access, Mass media and social networks, and Mobile phone technology. The experts believed that the presence of librarians, both now and in the future, is important and that professional librarians should also be used. Conclusion: By analyzing technological evolutions in libraries, we conclude that in future libraries, materials and informational contents in library are going toward decreasing the volume and weight. From consequence of interviewees' ideas as well as variation trend in type of libraries' resources, it can be predicted that paper resources will remain persistent beside electronic resources and each of the resources will keep its own certain users. Mostly, in this period, printed or digital resources will coexist and the libraries will be conducted based on two-type materials. For comprehensive development in public libraries, it is necessary to pay attention to all the mentioned components.

Cloud computing is one of the most important topics in knowledge-based companies. Small and medium-sized enterprises with a low budget and few human resources are one of the major groups tending to use cloud computing to benefit from this technology. Several components affect the adoption of cloud in these companies, which should be evaluated before making the decision. This study aimed to identify these components and determine how much each component impacts the adoption of cloud in small and medium-sized companies. Accordingly, based on the diffusion of innovation theory and technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework as well as the previous studies, a conceptual model with twelve components was presented. Data were collected via a questionnaire using the descriptive survey method from 59 knowledge-based companies of Kerman Science and Technology Park. In this study, the “need” factor was selected as the desired state and “use” as the current state; then, the mean of the other components was compared with the mean of these two factors. The results of this study showed that based on the gap between the desired state and the current state, the employees’ knowledge of cloud computing, compatibility, complexity, and security and privacy require more attention. Innovation factors, decision makers’ knowledge of cloud computing, benefits, and costs have a better position than other components. Finally, factors effective in the compliance of knowledge-based companies of Kerman Science and Technology Park with cloud computing were ranked using the Vikor method. The need factor (information need), decision makers’ innovation, and benefits were ranked first to third, respectively, and the complexity factor was ranked last among the indicators. Therefore, identifying the current state (not using cloud computing based on the needs or not matching with cloud) and the desired state (using cloud computing based on the needs or matching with the cloud) in knowledge-based companies, based on the criteria or factors whose usefulness was investigated in this study, can be an important step in joining these companies into the cloud, and thus bringing the benefits of this new technology to knowledge-based companies.

Purpose: The main purpose of this research is to assess the feasibility of using VSAT satellites in the information services of university libraries.Method: The research method is a survey using the TOPSIS model, which indicates that the optimal method of providing the Internet is the method that has the greatest distance from negative factors and the least distance from positive factors. The opinions of user organizations, i.e. academic libraries and information centers, have been examined to clarify the necessity of using this method as well as its characteristics and advantages compared to other ways of providing the Internet.Findings: The findings show that VSAT satellite internet can have better conditions for providing services compared to other services such as ADSL, optical fiber, Wi-Fi and Wi-MAX. Also, their assessment determined that VSAT satellite internet is currently the best way to provide internet based on the criteria of service, support, cost, trust and quality, and ranks second in criteria such as security, confidentiality and service. In conclusion, the priority of solutions to provide library internet using TOPSIS analysis is: VSAT service; Optical fiber; ADSL service; Wi-Max services and wireless services.Conclusion: The results indicate that the VSAT satellite network, with advantages in the use of Internet services by libraries, plays an important role in improving the quality of these services.

In addition to providing a set of techniques to analyze educational data, I claim that data science as a field can provide broader insights to education research. In particular, I show how the bias-variance tradeoff from machine learning can be formally generalized to be applicable to several prominent educational debates, including debates around learning theories (cognitivist vs. situativist and constructivist theories) and pedagogy (direct instruction vs. discovery learning). I then look to see how various data science techniques that have been proposed to navigate the bias-variance tradeoff can yield insights for productively navigating these educational debates going forward.

This paper proposes a robust H ∞ -LMI-based primary controller using the Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) modeling for an AC islanded Micro-Grid (IMG). The proposed controller can regulate the frequency and voltage of the IMG under various scenarios, such as load changes, faults, and reconfigurations. Unlike most previous studies that neglected the nonlinearity and uncertainty of the system, this paper represents the system dynamics as a polytopic LPV model in the novel primary control structure. The proposed method computes a state-feedback control by solving the corresponding Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) based on H ∞ performance and stability criteria. The robust primary control is applied to a test IMG in the SIM-POWER environment of MATLAB and evaluated under different scenarios. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method in maintaining the stability of the frequency and voltage of the IMG.
