SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus emerged in the world at the end of 2019. The introduction of a number of restrictions had a significant effect on numerous aspects of human life with particular influence being exerted on pregnant women and their sense of security. The study aimed to assess the level of anxiety and its main determinants in women in the third trimester of pregnancy during the coronavirus pandemic. The study technique included the present purposely designed questionnaire, Labor Anxiety Questionnaire (KLPII), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The study was conducted in a group of 315 women in the third trimester of pregnancy. A total of 258 women (81.9%) completed the questionnaire in May 2020, and 57 of them (18.1%) completed it in October 2020. The overall analysis of the Labor Anxiety Questionnaire and the STAI inventory revealed a high level of anxiety, particularly situational anxiety, in pregnant women during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The age and financial status of the women were the factors which contributed to the intensification of tokophobia. Women interviewed in October 2020 were characterized by higher tokophobia levels compared to the respondents included in May 2020. It seems justified to in-crease the vigilance in the diagnostics of possible mental disorders in the perinatal period during pandemic.

Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of life of women with pelvic organ prolapse during the postmenopausal period. Material and methodology. The study group consisted of 45 patients of the Department of Gynecology and Oncology at the University Hospital in Cracow The study was conducted as a diagnostic survey using the following survey techniques: author's questionnaire and the Short Form of Health Status Questionnaire (SF-36v2). Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the mode of delivery and the course of lactation in primiparas in early postpartum period. Material and methods. The research was conducted amongst 200 primiparas including 100 after vaginal delivery and 100 after cesarean section. The study was conducted with the method of diagnostic survey with the author’s original questionnaire as a research tool. Results. The women after vaginal delivery initiate breastfeeding earlier and more often find it successful (p < 0.001). Almost all the primiparas after cesarean delivery formula-fed their newborns (p < 0.001) and they started supplementary formula feeding earlier in comparison to women who had vaginal delivery (p < 0.001). Problem-free breastfeeding was declared by 15% of the respondents after vaginal delivery and 4% of those who had a cesarean section. Conclusions. The mode of delivery influences the lactation process. The primiparas after cesarean delivery had problems with breastfeeding more often than those after vaginal birth.

Introduction. Excessive or inefficient body weight in pregnant women is a serious obstetric problem, associated with an increased risk of complications for the mother and child. Excessive birth weight of an infant carries the risk of emergency obstetric conditions, in turn, low birth weight of an infant may pose a risk of developmental disorders. Objectives. To evaluate the impact of nutritional condition of mothers on anthropometric parameters value of newborns. Material and methods. The study included 247 women and their newborns. The diagnostic survey method was applied. An original questionnaire was used and anthropometric measurements of women and newborns were taken. Results and Conclusions. Statistically significant differences were found in birth weight of newborns depending on the nutritional condition of women prior to pregnancy. The children of mothers with insufficient bodyweight had a significantly lower birth weight (p = 0.0079) than the children of mothers with normal weight, excessive weight and obesity. It was also demonstrated that the children of mothers with insufficient body weight had significantly lower (p < 0.0001) head circumference than the children of mothers with normal weight, excessive weight and obesity. The research revealed a correlation between maternal body mass index and neonatal anthropometric parameters. Mothers with insufficient weight gave birth to children with a significantly lower birth weight than the children of mothers with normal weight, excessive weight and obesity. Mothers with excessive weight and obesity gave birth to infants with significantly higher birth weight than mothers with normal or insufficient weight before pregnancy. Introduction. Miscarriage is a serious medical, social and family problem. It is defined as a premature pregnancy termination before 22nd week and it relates to about 10-15% of recognized pregnancies. Its symptoms usually include painless bleeding from uterus and medium force contraction. With preservative treatment the symptoms disappear and the pregnancy continues to the correct termination. Possible termination methods are limited by potential threats to pregnancy. Chances for success are very high, as long as professional medical assistance is provided. Aim. Determination of the relationship between socio-demographic factors and the factors accompanying treatment for pregnancy subsistence among women hospitalized due to miscarriage threat. Material and Methodology. Medical documentation of 145 pregnant women hospitalized due to miscarriage threat in Radom Specialist Hospital between January and March 2014. Statistical analysis was performed with Statistica 10 PL software. Confidence level was assumed at p≤0.05. Results. T Hospitalization and medical treatment effectiveness for pregnancy subsistence was at 87.6 %. It was statistically proven that the highest impact was exercised by medications applied (p=0.000), bed regime (p=0.040) and a week of pregnancy continuation. Its continuation between 8-16 weeks proved to be the most favorable from among examined pregnant women with threatened pregnancies, for its subsistence (p=0.014). Conclusion. Pharmacotherapy and rest therapy used during hospitalization had favorable influence upon pregnancy subsistence. There was a positive correlation between pregnancy subsistence, folic acid supplementation, correct BMI and the week when miscarriage occurred. No other examined parameters had any impact on pregnancy subsistence in the researched population whatsoever.

Introduction. An increase in the number of women with eating disorders such as excessive weight, obesity, or malnutrition has been observed. Pregnancy and childbirth affect the subjective perception of women’s quality of life. Aim of study. Assessment of womens’s quality of life in pregnancy, puerperium and lactation period, depending on the nutritional condition prior to pregnancy. Material and methods. The research included 247 women. The survey was conducted three times: postnatally, six weeks and six months after childbirth. The diagnostic survey method was used, the tools being a standardized questionnaire SF-36v1 (Quality of Life SF-36v1), an original questionnaire and anthropometric measurements of body weight and height, serving to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). Results and conclusions. The study revealed better quality of life in women six weeks and six months after childbirth, compared to the postnatal period. Statistically significant differences were shown in the following scales: Physical functioning (PF) (p < 0.0001), Role limitations due to physical health problems (RP) (p < 0.0001), Body pain (BP) (p < 0.0001), General health perception (GH) (p < 0.0001), Vitality, energy or fatigue (VT) (p = 0.0002) Social functioning (SF) (p < 0.0001), Role limitations due to emotional problems (RE) (p < 0.0001), and in Physical Component Sumary (PCS domain) (p < 0.0001). In the studied group the quality of life was improved in subsequent periods of the surveys. It has been shown that the women with inefficient weight before pregnancy had a significantly higher quality of life indicators compared to women with normal weight, excessive weight and obesity.
