Abstract

Modulation of protein abundance using tag-Targeted Protein Degrader (tTPD) systems targeting FKBP12F36V (dTAGs) or HaloTag7 (HaloPROTACs) are powerful approaches for preclinical target validation. Interchanging tags and tag-targeting degraders is important to achieve efficient substrate degradation, yet limited degrader/tag pairs are available and side-by-side comparisons have not been performed. To expand the tTPD repertoire we developed catalytic NanoLuc-targeting PROTACs (NanoTACs) to hijack the CRL4CRBN complex and degrade NanoLuc tagged substrates, enabling rapid luminescence-based degradation screening. To benchmark NanoTACs against existing tTPD systems we use an interchangeable reporter system to comparatively test optimal degrader/tag pairs. Overall, we find the dTAG system exhibits superior degradation. To align tag-induced degradation with physiology we demonstrate that NanoTACs limit MLKL-driven necroptosis. In this work we extend the tTPD platform to include NanoTACs adding flexibility to tTPD studies, and benchmark each tTPD system to highlight the importance of comparing each system against each substrate.

Abstract

International audience; The objective of this paper is to study the performance of human reidentification based on multi-shot SURF and to assess its degradation according to the angular difference between the test and reference video scene view angles. In this context, we propose a new automatic statistical method of acceptance and rejection of SURF correspondence based on the likelihood ratio of two GMMs learned on the reference set and modeling the distribution of distances resulting from matching sequences associated with the same person and with different persons respectively. The experimental results show that our approach compares favorably with the state of the art and achieves a good performance.

Abstract

International audience; Most elderly people monitoring systems include the detection of abnormal situations, in particular distress situations, as one of their main goals. In order to reach this objective, many solutions end up combining several modalities such as video tracking, fall detection and sound recognition, so as to increase the reliability of the system. In this work we focus on daily sound recognition as it is one of the most promising modalities. We make a comparison of two standard methods used for speaker recognition and verification: Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) and Support Vector Machines (SVM). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the combination of GMM and SVM in order to classify sound data sequences when compared to systems based on GMM.

Abstract

International audience; Face recognition finds its place in a large number of applications. They occur in different contexts related to security, entertainment or Internet applications. Reliable face recognition is still a great challenge to computer vision and pattern recognition researchers, and new algorithms need to be evaluated on relevant databases. The publicly available IV2 database allows monomodal and multimodal experiments using face data. Known variabilities, that are critical for the performance of the biometric systems (such as pose, expression, illumination and quality) are present. The face and subface data that are acquired in this database are: 2D audio-video talking-face sequences, 2D stereoscopic data acquired with two pairs of synchronized cameras, 3D facial data acquired with a laser scanner, and iris images acquired with a portable infrared camera. The IV2 database is designed for monomodal and multimodal experiments. The quality of the acquired data is of great importance. Therefore as a first step, and in order to better evaluate the quality of the data, a first internal evaluation was conducted. Only a small amount of the total acquired data was used for this evaluation: 2D still images, 3D scans and iris images. First results show the interest of this database. In parallel to the research algorithms, open-source reference systems were also run for baseline comparisons.

Abstract

n this paper is presented an example of the use of fractal approaches in the field of online handwriting processing. The adaptation of the box counting method to the computation of online handwriting fractal dimension is presented. The influence of different parameters is studied. This allows understanding why the value of the proposed parameter is invariant towards the tablet or the speed or the writing size. The study of the transforms that have been chosen in REMUS software allows seeing that they match quite well the quantitative results obtained with fractal methods. Then, a posteriori, in a theoretical way, this confirms the value of the methods involved.

Abstract

In this chapter, we first provide an overview of the existing main approaches, databases, evaluation campaigns and the remaining challenges in online handwritten signature verification. We then propose a new benchmarking framework for online signature verification by introducing the concepts of “Reference Systems”, “Reference Databases” and associated “Reference Protocols.” Finally, we present the results of several approaches within the proposed evaluation framework. Among them are also present the best approaches within the first international Signature Verification Competition held in 2004 (SVC’2004), Dynamic Time Warping and Hidden Markov Models. All these systems are evaluated first within the benchmarking framework and also with other relevant protocols. Experiments are also reported on two different databases (BIOMET and MCYT) showing the impact of time variability for online signature verification. The two reference systems presented in this chapter are also used and evaluated in the BMEC’2007 evaluation campaign, presented in Chap11. ©Springer 2009

Abstract

Automatically verifying the identity of a person by means of biometrics (e.g. face and fingerprint) is an important application in our to-day activities such as accessing banking services and security control in airports. To increase the system reliability, several biometric devices are often used. Such a combined system is known as a multimodal biometric system. This paper reports a benchmarking study carried out within the framework of the BioSecure DS2 (Access Control) evaluation campaign organized by the University of Surrey, involving face, fingerprint, and iris biometrics for person authentication, targeting the application of physical access control in a medium-size establishment with some 500 persons.

Abstract

In this paper, we present an integrated research study in On-line Signature Verification undertaken by several teams that participate in the BioSecure Network of Excellence. This integrated work, started during the First BioSecure Residential Workshop, has as main objective the development of an On-line Signature Verification evaluation platform. As a first step, four On-line Signature Verification Systems based on different approaches are evaluated and compared following the same experimental protocol on MCYT signature database, which is the largest existing on-line western signature database publicly available with 16 500 signatures from 330 clients. A particular focus of work documented in this paper is multi-algorithmic fusion in order to study the complementarity of the approaches involved. To this end, a simple fusion method based on the Mean Rule is used after a normalization phase.
