The authors found that for native people living on reservations in Saskatchewan, the average income and education level was higher than for native people (referred to in the article as first nations) living in urban areas. Additionally, a high school diploma resulted in higher income than a trade certificate.

The usefulness of differential games to economics is considered in the study. Quantitative techniques in economic analysis and developments in policy preparation have to be taken into consideration. Their historical context is presented. Differential games applied to macroeconomics are also presented. The validity of using differential games in economic models is also analyzed.

Issues are discussed concerning global warming and structural stability, focusing on input substitutability.

This note synthesizes the discussion on the role of Cournot and Bertrand in the analysis of duopoly by drawing on the history of the debate. We conclude that while Bertrand presented a critique of the mathematical economics of Cournot and stimulated the analysis of strategic choice in game theory, he did not present a duopoly model with price as a strategic variable, as opposed to Cournot's model with quantity. The model derives an equation of the value of forests from a dynamicoptimizing framework. This equation gives the marginal social opportunity cost (MSOC) value of the forests, with value added as the numeraire. However, the shadow price is subject to the restrictive complementary slackness condition, which yields a zero shadow price whenevera constraint in not fully binding. To overcome this problem, we assume that value-added is valued at par only when there is no externality. In this formulation the shadow price is a cardinal index of the relative scarcity of the forests. The econometric estimates of the shadow price of the forests and the resulting MSOC value of forests per hectare are obtained by a time trend model Model 2) and an ARIMA model(Model 3). We regard the ARIMA model estimates to more representative of current conditions, and the estimated shadow price of the forests (in 1990) is a premium of the order of 25 to 32 percent. The corresponding MSOC value of a hectare of forest is between $350 to $412 in 1986 constant dollars. Naturally the estimates are subject to the limitations of the data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In forest management, actual applications of an integrated approach in forest management are not very frequent. Integrated forest management generally involves taking into account the totality of interactions of various sub-systems-social, economic, and ecological- within the biosphere, together with integration of goals set for such management. Several obstacles are identified in this paper to a successful integration of various sub-systems. Philosophical differences with respect to the rights of various members of these systems, fragmented andunidisciplinary training, lack of scientific knowledge regarding theimpact of one sub-system on the other, as well as lack of information on users and their goals, are some of the major obstacles. Lack of consensus when preferences of various users of the forest are heterogeneous further adds to the difficulties. Stakeholder participation inthe management along with the use of multiple criteria decision-making tools otters a route to integrated forest management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
