Aim: In our retrospective study, we examined patients who underwent percutaneous intervention (PCI) for ischemia involving saphenous vein grafts (SVG). Our objective was to analyze the impact of inflammation and thrombotic events on the no-reflow phenomenon (NRP) post-intervention. For this purpose, we aimed to determine whether the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) is a risk factor for the NRP. Patients were divided into two groups based on the occurrence of NRP, and we investigated whether there was a statistically significant difference in SII between the groups. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 30 patients who had previously undergone surgical revascularization and underwent PCI on SVG due to ischemia between May 4, 2023, and July 31, 2024. Post-procedural blood flow was evaluated, and patients were divided into two groups based on the development of NRP. The relationship between NRP and SII was examined. Results: The study demonstrated that patients who experienced the NRP had significantly higher SII levels. Additionally, the duration of the procedure was significantly longer in patients with no-reflow. Systemic risk factors, such as age, gender, and comorbidities, were similar between the no-reflow and normal flow groups. Conclusion: This study indicates that inflammation plays a key role in determining flow outcomes following PCI. Further clinical studies focused on reducing inflammation and improving flow are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Obesity is a global health burden with an increasing worldwide incidence. Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is frequently associated with obstructive coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Obesity and CAE are risk factors for ACS. Considering this linkage, we aimed to investigate the role of obesity in presence of CAE in patients presenting with ACS. Materials and Methods: Patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of ACS in our tertiary center between January 2015 and May 2020 were included in this retrospective, casecontrol study. The patients presenting with ACS involving a coronary artery ectasia segment formed 'CAE group'. On the other hand, patients who were undergone coronary angiography with a diagnosis of ACS without coronary ectasia formed 'control group'. Results: There were a total of 274 patients. Patients who were presented with ACS involving a CAE segment were in higher body mass index (BMI) tertials and BMI was an independent predictor for presence of CAE in patients presenting with ACS. Additionally advanced age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, current smoking, increased neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, higher fasting blood glucose, triglyceride and lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels were found as independent risk factors for presence of CAE in patients presenting with ACS. Conclusion: We detected obesity (being overweight or obese) as an independent risk factor associated with the presence of CAE in patients presenting with ACS. Higher triglyceride and fasting blood glucose and lower HDL levels detected in our study support the idea that metabolic syndrome plays a role and insulin resistance is the underlying mechanism for CAE presence in patients presenting with ACS. Aim: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the leading causes of mortality. Components of complete blood count indicate thrombotic and/or inflammatory status in various clinical conditions. In this study, we aimed to evaluate if hematological parameters could predict in-hospital mortality in patients presenting with PE. Materials and Methods: Patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute PE in our tertiary center between 2016 and 2022 were involved in this retrospective study. Hematologic parameters obtained on admission were analyzed. PESI scores were calculated and comparative statistical and regression analyses were obtained. Results: There were 254 patients (37.4% male). Thirty-eight patients (14.9%) were died in-hospital and formed 'non-survivors' group. NLr and RDW were found as independent risk factors associated with in-hospital mortality. Our results revealed a strong correlation between hematological parameters and PESI risk score and a cut off value of 5.9 for NLr was associated with 68.4% sensitivity and 68.1% specificity; besides that, cut off value of 14.1 for RDW was associated with 68.4% sensitivity and 62.6% specificity in prediction of in-hospital mortality. Conclusion: Our current study showed that hematological parameters, assessed by routine blood count analysis, may serve as a promising and useful marker to foresee in-hospital mortality in patients presenting thru acute PE especially when used additive to validated risk scores. Purpose: This study aims to assess the association between CHA2DS2-VASc score and erectile dysfunction in patients who were admitted to cardiology outpatient clinics., Materials and Methods: One hundred and two male patients who were admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinic were included to the study. Erectile dysfunction was evaluated in the urology outpatient clinic in the same hospital and scored using Turkish Version of The International Index of Erectile Function. CHA2DS2-VASc score was calculated for every patient using the current associated guidelines., Results: There was a negative correlation between The International Index of Erectile Function score and CHA2DS2-VASc score, age, hypertension, heart failure, diabetes mellitus, stroke respectively. Smoking and dislipidemia were not correlated with The International Index of Erectile Function score (p>0.05)., Conclusion: CHA2DS2-VASc score can be used to detect Erectile dysfunction in patients who are admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinics., Competing Interests: None declared., (Copyright® by the International Brazilian Journal of Urology.)
