The male reproductive immune system plays a pivotal role in safeguarding sperm from immune attacks and preventing the incursion of foreign pathogens. Nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain-like receptors (NOD-like receptors, NLRs) family protein domain containing 3 (NLRP3) is a cytoplasmic sensor binding to the inflammasome and critically involved in inducing innate immunity in the testes. It also has a substantial impact on male reproductive immunity, which is closely associated with male infertility stemming from disorders related to the male reproductive immune system. This review introduces the distinct characteristics of the NLR family, elucidates the activation pathways and factors of NLRP3 inflammasomes, and discusses how they participate in male reproductive immune diseases such as bacterial orchitis, autoimmune orchitis, varicocele, and epididymitis. In bacterial orchitis, elevated levels of NLRP3 inflammasomes exacerbate the testicular inflammatory injury and lead to decreased testosterone, thus contributing to male infertility. In autoimmune orchitis, the NLRP3 inflammasomes inhibit testosterone synthesis by decreasing the expression of cytochrome P450, thereby impacting male reproductive function. Therefore, targeting NLRP3 could offer novel immunological strategies for the clinical treatment of male infertility.

Abstract Intron retention (IR) constitutes a less explored form of alternative splicing, wherein introns are retained within mature mRNA transcripts. This investigation demonstrates that the cell division cycle (CDC)‐like kinase 2 (CLK2) undergoes liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) within nuclear speckles in response to heat shock (HS). The formation of CLK2 condensates depends on the intrinsically disordered region (IDR) located within the N‐terminal amino acids 1‐148. Phosphorylation at residue T343 sustains CLK2 kinase activity and promotes overall autophosphorylation, which inhibits the LLPS activity of the IDR. These CLK2 condensates initiate the reorganization of nuclear speckles, transforming them into larger, rounded structures. Moreover, these condensates facilitate the recruitment of splicing factors into these compartments, restricting their access to mRNA for intron splicing and promoting the IR. The retained introns lead to the sequestration of transcripts within the nucleus. These findings extend to the realm of glioma stem cells (GSCs), where a physiological state mirroring HS stress inhibits T343 autophosphorylation, thereby inducing the formation of CLK2 condensates and subsequent IR. Notably, expressing the CLK2 condensates hampers the maintenance of GSCs. In conclusion, this research unveils a mechanism by which IR is propelled by CLK2 condensates, shedding light on its role in coping with cellular stress.

Testicular sperm maturation is critical for establishing male fertility. Spermatozoa undergo remodeling of sperm proteins and changes in lipid and ribonucleic acid composition during transport in the epididymal ducts, which play an important role in sperm maturation. The anatomy, epithelial cell types, physiological functions, and epigenetic inheritance of the epididymis are explored, and recent findings in epididymal research are analyzed. Suggesting possible directions for future research on the epididymis. Using the keywords “epididymis”, “sperm”, and “sperm maturation”, a search of the epididymis was performed through databases and official websites of journals related to reproduction. This review introduces the characteristics of the epididymis, as well as the biological functions of cell types such as principal cells, clear cells, and basal cells, providing a detailed description of the overall physiological functions of the epididymis. It highlights current research hotspots in the field of epididymis, including single-cell analysis, epigenetics, and extracellular vesicles, aiming to offer a comprehensive understanding for beginners. The review emphasizes the importance of the epididymis, its impact on sperm maturation and subsequent embryo development, and how it advances research on epididymal diseases while providing new directions for the study and treatment strategies of infertility.

Abstract Background Serum CGRP has been found to increase during migraine attack. However, whether CGRP can identify MA with PFO subtypes in MA remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the differential expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) between migraine (MA) patients with and without patent foramen ovale (PFO), and to evaluate the predictive value of CGRP for MA with PFO. Methods A total of 153 patients with MA, 51 patients with PFO and 102 patients without. Venous blood was drawn and HIT-6 score was calculated during the onset of MA, and blood routine, inflammatory indexes and serum CGRP were detected. The differences in serum markers and HIT-6 scores were compared between the two groups, and the risk factors of MA with PFO were determined by univariate and multivariate logistics regression. Furthermore, the correlation between CGRP level with right-to-left shunt (RLS) grades and headache impact test-6 (HIT-6) score in MA patients with PFO were assessed. Independent risk factors were screened out by multivariate Logistic regression analysis. We used the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to analyze the diagnostic value of these risk factors in MA complicated with PFO. Introduction: The epididymis is important for sperm transport, maturation, and storage.Methods: The head and tail of the epididymis of 5-week-old and 10-week-old C57 BL/6J male mice were used for single-cell sequencing.Results: 10 cell types including main, basal, and narrow/clear cells are identified. Next, we performed cell subgroup analysis, functional enrichment analysis, and differentiation potential prediction on principal cells, clear cells, and basal cells. Our study indicates that the principal cells are significantly involved in sperm maturation, as well as in antiviral and anti-tumor immune responses. Clear cells are likely to play a crucial role in safeguarding sperm and maintaining epididymal pH levels. Basal cells are implicated in the regulation of inflammatory and stress responses. The composition and functions of the various cell types within the epididymis undergo significant changes before and after sexual maturity. Furthermore, pseudo-temporal analysis elucidates the protective and supportive roles of epididymal cells in sperm maturation during sexual maturation.Discussion: This study offers a theoretical framework and forecasts for the investigation of epididymal sperm maturation and epididymal immunity.

Objectives: The study aims at exploring common hub genes and pathways in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and rheumatoid arthritis-associated usual interstitial pneumonia (RA-UIP) through integrated bioinformatics analyses. Methods: The GSE199152 dataset containing lung tissue samples from IPF and RA-UIP patients was acquired from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The identification of overlapping differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in IPF and RA-UIP was carried out through R language. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis and module analysis were applied to filter mutual hub genes in the two diseases. Enrichment analyses were also conducted to analyze the possible biological functions and pathways of the overlapped DEGs and hub genes. The diagnostic value of key genes was assessed with R language, and the expressions of these genes in pulmonary cells of IPF and rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) patients were analyzed with single cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets. The expression levels of hub genes were validated in blood samples from patients, specimens of human lung fibroblasts, lung tissue samples from mice, as well as external GEO datasets. Results: Four common hub genes (THBS2, TIMP1, POSTN, and CD19) were screened. Enrichment analyses showed that the abnormal expressions of DEGs and hub genes may be connected with the onset of IPF and RA-UIP by regulating the progression of fibrosis. ScRNA-seq analyses illustrated that for both IPF and RA-ILD patients, THBS2, TIMP1, and POSTN were mainly expressed in lung fibroblasts, while CD19 was uniquely high-expressed in B cells. The qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry (IHC) results verified that the expression levels of hub genes were mostly in accordance with the findings obtained from the bioinformatics analyses. Conclusion: Though IPF and RA-UIP are distinct diseases, they may to some extent have mutual pathogenesis in the development of fibrosis. THBS2, TIMP1, POSTN, and CD19 may be the potential biomarkers of IPF and RA-UIP, and intervention on related pathways of these genes could offer new strategies for the precision treatment of IPF and RA-UIP.

The etiology of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is extremely complex, as there are 40–50% of patients with unexplained miscarriages, known as unexplained RSA (URSA). URSA affects approximately 1–2% of females of childbearing age and has a massive impact on the physical and mental conditions of both patients and their families. The pathogenesis of the disease remains unclear, making its treatment complicated. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in the exploration of the URSA immune balance mechanism and it has been universally acknowledged that a balanced immune response (as abnormal immunity) may be the root cause of poor pregnancy outcomes. This review discussed and summarized the effects of immune cells and blocking antibodies (BAs) on URSA based on the current state of knowledge in this area. Additionally, molecular genetics also plays an essential role in the incidence rate of URSA since the role of genetic polymorphism in the pathogenesis of URSA has been thoroughly studied. Nonetheless, the outcomes of these studies are inconsistent, particularly across populations. This paper reviewed previous studies on URSA and maternal genetic polymorphism, focusing on and synthesizing the most important findings to date, and providing diagnostic recommendation for URSA patients with clinical symptoms.

Psoriasis (PSO) is a common skin disease affecting approximately 1%–3% of the population, and the incidence rate is increasing yearly. PSO is associated with a dramatically increased risk of cardiovascular disease, the most common of which is atherosclerosis (AS). In the past, inflammation was considered to be the triggering factor of the two comorbidities, but in recent years, studies have found that lipid metabolism disorders increase the probability of atherosclerosis in patients with psoriasis. In this review, we discuss epidemiological studies, clinical treatment methods, risk factors, and lipid metabolism of psoriasis and atherosclerosis comorbidities.

C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) is highly expressed in male reproductive tissues, such as the epididymis. The aim of this study is to explore the role of CNP in the maturation of rat epididymal spermatozoa. First, the expression levels of CNP and its specific natriuretic peptide receptor-B (NPR-B) were detected in various tissues of rats and epididymis at different stages after birth. Then a castrated rat model was established to analyze the relationship between testosterone and CNP/NPR-B expression in the epididymis. Finally, CNP and different inhibitors (NPR-B inhibitors, cGMP inhibitors) were used to incubate epididymal sperm in vitro to examine sperm mobility and expression of sperm maturation-related factors. The results showed CNP/NPR-B mRNAs were expressed in all tissues of rats, but were extremely highly expressed in male genital ducts (seminal vesicle, prostate and epididymis). The expression of CNP/NPR-B in epididymis was the highest at birth and the fifth week after birth. In the epididymis, CNP/NPR-B were highly expressed in the caput and located in the epididymal epithelial cells. After castration, the expression of CNP/NPR-B decreased sharply and was restored quickly after testosterone supplementation. In vitro, CNP could significantly promote the acquisition of epididymal sperm motility through the NPR-B/cGMP pathway and induce the expression of sperm maturation-related factors (such as Bin1b, Catsper 1, Dnah17, Fertilin). This study shows that CNP plays a role in epididymal sperm maturation. The mechanism of CNP is to promote the acquisition of epididymal sperm fluidity through the NPR-B/cGMP signaling pathway and also to regulate sperm maturation-related genes. Moreover, the expression of CNP/NPR-B was regulated by testosterone.

AbstractControlled incorporation of bioactive hydroxyapatite (HA) into poly(lactic acid) (PLA) signifies a promising approach to design and development of biomedical-adaptive materials. Here we unravel a microwave-assisted biomineralization approach to synthesis of HA nanowhiskers (HANWs), which were characterized by well-controlled diameter (∼30 nm) and length (80 − 120 nm), combined with a desirable calcium − phosphorus ratio (Ca/P) of 1.67. A high-shear liquid dispersion (HSLD) method that provided a combination of high pressure (up to 50 kPa) and high shear rate approaching 10000 s−1 was established to fabricate homogeneous PLA/HANWs composites. In particular, upon incorporation of 30 wt % HANWs the tensile strength and elastic modulus of PLA-HA30 (76.7 MPa and 3.3 GPa) were elevated by 48% and 84% compared to those of pure PLA, respectively, as accompanied by a nearly 2-fold increase in the cell viability. This work paves a facile yet effective roadway to strong and osteoconductive PLA composites appealing for bone tissue repairing.

Background: This study clarified the associations between dairy consumption during pregnancy and all pregnancy complications. Methods: Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. The final search date was October 22, 2021. Tabular textual descriptions and effect direction plots were used to display the results of the included studies. The effects were synthesized for each outcome by vote counting based on the direction of effect. Results: Twenty-seven studies, including 28 reports, were included in the systematic review. There were 59,973 participants assessed for gestational weight gain, 15,696 participants assessed for gestational diabetes mellitus, and 72,938 participants assessed for pre-eclampsia. Based on vote counts in the direction of effect, the relationship between dairy consumption and the above outcomes tended to be neutral. Conclusions: Dairy consumption during pregnancy was not clearly associated with common pregnancy complications. Additional high-quality research is warranted to confirm our conclusion.

Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is both mental and physical health problem affecting about 1–5% of women of childbearing age. The etiology of RPL is complex, involving chromosomal abnormalities, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, and endometrial dysfunction. The causes of abortion are still unknown in more than 50% of these cases. With the development of science and technology, an increasing number of scholars focus on this field and find that genetic factors may play an essential role in unexplained RPL, such as embolism-related genes, immune factor-related genes, and chromosomal numeric, and structural variation. This review summarizes the genetic factors associated with RPL, including genetic mutations and genetic polymorphisms, chromosomal variants, and chromosomal polymorphisms. Many related genetic factors have been found to be demographically and geographically relevant, some of which can be used for risk prediction or screening for the etiology of RPL. However, it is difficult to predict and prevent RPL due to uncertain pathogenesis and highly variable clinical presentation. Therefore, the genetic factors of RPL still need plentiful research to obtain a more accurate understanding of its pathogenesis and to provide more detection means for the screening and prevention of RPL.

The discovery of kisspeptin as a critical central regulatory factor of GnRH release has given people a novel understanding of the neuroendocrine regulation in human reproduction. Kisspeptin activates the signaling pathway by binding to its receptor kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R) to promote GnRH secretion, thereby regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPG) axis. Recent studies have shown that kisspeptin neurons located in arcuate nucleus (ARC) co-express neurokinin B (NKB) and dynorphin (Dyn). Such neurons are called KNDy neurons. KNDy neurons participate in the positive and negative feedback of estrogen to GnRH secretion. In addition, kisspeptin is a key factor in the initiation of puberty, and also regulates the processes of female follicle development, oocyte maturation, and ovulation through the HPG axis. In male reproduction, kisspeptin also plays an important role, getting involved in the regulation of Leydig cells, spermatogenesis, sperm functions and reproductive behaviors. Mutations in the KISS1 gene or disorders of the kisspeptin/KISS1R system may lead to clinical symptoms such as idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (iHH), central precocious puberty (CPP) and female infertility. Understanding the influence of kisspeptin on the reproductive axis and related mechanisms will help the future application of kisspeptin in disease diagnosis and treatment. In this review, we critically appraise the role of kisspeptin in the HPG axis, including its signaling pathways, negative and positive feedback mechanisms, and its control on female and male reproduction.

PurposeThis study aimed to systematically review current evidence and quantitatively evaluate the associations between milk or dairy consumption during pregnancy and birth outcomes.MethodsThis systematic review had been reported in accordance with the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. A supplementary literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase was conducted on 30 March 2021. Studies that assessed the association of maternal consumption of milk or dairy with birth-related outcomes were identified. The dose-response meta-analyses of continuous data and categorical data were applied. One-stage approach and two-stage approach were used where appropriate.ResultsIn total, 42 studies were eligible for the present systematic review, and 18 of them were included in the outcome-specific meta-analyses. The dose-response meta-analysis [Number of studies (N) = 9] predicted a maximum mean change in birthweight of 63.38 g [95% Confidence Interval (CI) = 0.08, 126.67] at 5.00 servings per day. Intake of dairy products had the greatest protective effect on small for gestational age at a maximum of 7.2 servings per day [Relative risk (RR) = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.56, 0.85] (N = 7). The risk of large for gestational age was predicted to be maximum at 7.20 servings per day of dairy consumption, with the RR and 95% CI of 1.30 (1.15, 1.46; N = 4). In addition, the relationship between dairy consumption and low birth weight (RR = 0.70, 95% CI = 0.33, 1.50; N = 5) and pre-mature birth (RR = 1.13, 95% CI = 0.87, 1.47; N = 5) was not significant, respectively.ConclusionsMaternal consumption of dairy during pregnancy has a potential effect on fetal growth. Human epididymitis is mainly caused by retrograde urinary tract infection with uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). This disease is an important factor (accounting for 20–30%) causing male infertility. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), a protein composed of 22 amino acids, is proved to play an immunoregulatory role in respiratory and cardiovascular systems. CNP is expressed extremely high in the epididymis, but whether CNP plays the same role in acute epididymitis is unclear. At first, we established an acute caput epididymitis model in rats with UPEC and treated them with CNP to measure inflammatory damage. Then RNA-seq transcriptome technology was used to reveal potential signal pathways. Secondly, the turbidity and activity of UPEC were assessed using a microplate reader and the amount of UPEC by agar plates after incubation with CNP. Thirdly, macrophages in caput epididymis were tested by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Meanwhile, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with or without CNP was used to stimulate the macrophage (RAW264.7) in vitro and to detect the expression level of pro-inflammatory factors. Finally, the macrophage (RAW264.7) was treated with CNP, 8-Br-cGMP [cyclic guanosinc monophosphate (cGMP) analog] and KT5823 [protein kinase G (PKG) inhibitor], and the expression level of nuclear factor-k-gene binding (NF-kB) signal pathway was examined. The results showed that the damage of epididymis induced by UPEC as well as the pro-inflammatory factors could be alleviated significantly with CNP treatment. CNP could inhibit the activity and numbers of bacteria in both in vivo and in vitro experiments. Moreover, CNP repressed the invasion, and the expression of pro-inflammatory factors (such as NF-kB, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) in macrophages and its effect could be inhibited by KT5823. Therefore, we drew a conclusion from the above experiments that CNP alleviates the acute epididymitis injury induced by UPEC. On one hand, CNP could inhibit the growth of UPEC. On the other hand, CNP could decrease invasion and inflammatory reaction of macrophages; the mechanism was involved in inhibiting NF-kB signal pathway through the cGMP/PKG in macrophages. This research would open up the possibility of using CNP as a potential treatment for epididymitis.

Zinc finger E-box-binding homebox 1 (ZEB1) is a zinc-finger transcription factor best known for its role in promoting the epithelial-mesenchymal transition, which is also related to osteogenesis. Here, ZEB1 was investigated for its role in the commitment of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) to osteoblasts. In vitro, ZEB1 expression decreased following osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, silencing of ZEB1 in BMSCs promoted osteogenic activity and mineralization. The increase in osteogenic differentiation induced by si-ZEB1 could be partly rescued by the inhibition of Wnt/β-catenin (si-β-catenin). In vivo, knockdown of ZEB1 in BMSCs inhibited the rapid bone loss of ovariectomized (OVX) mice. ZEB1 expression has also been negatively associated with bone mass and bone formation in postmenopausal women. In conclusion, ZEB1 is an essential transcription factor in BMSC differentiation and may serve as a potential anabolic strategy for treating and preventing postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP).

The epididymis is an important male accessory sex organ where sperm motility and fertilization ability develop. When spermatozoa carrying foreign antigens enter the epididymis, the epididymis shows “immune privilege” to tolerate them. It is well-known that a tolerogenic environment exists in the caput epididymis, while pro-inflammatory circumstances prefer the cauda epididymis. This meticulously regulated immune environment not only protects spermatozoa from autoimmunity but also defends spermatozoa against pathogenic damage. Epididymitis is one of the common causes of male infertility. Up to 40% of patients suffer from permanent oligospermia or azoospermia. This is related to the immune characteristics of the epididymis itself. Moreover, epididymitis induced by different pathogenic microbial infections has different characteristics. This article elaborates on the distribution and immune response characteristics of epididymis immune cells, the role of epididymis epithelial cells (EECs), and the epididymis defense against different pathogenic infections (such as uropathogenic Escherichia coli, Chlamydia trachomatis, and viruses to provide therapeutic approaches for epididymitis and its subsequent fertility problems.

Mammalian ovaries consist of follicles as basic functional units. Each follicle comprised an innermost oocyte and several surrounding flattened granulosa cells. Unlike males, according to the initial size of the primordial follicle pool and the rate of its activation and depletion, a female’s reproductive life has been determined early in life. Primordial follicles, once activated, will get into an irreversible process of development. Most follicles undergo atretic degeneration, and only a few of them could mature and ovulate. Although there are a lot of researches contributing to exploring the activation of primordial follicles, little is known about its underlying mechanisms. Thus, in this review, we collected the latest papers and summarized the signaling pathways as well as some factors involved in the activation of primordial follicles, hoping to lead to a more profound understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of primordial follicle activation.

The effects of nano-SiO2 and superabsorbent polymer on the hydration process of early-age cement paste are investigated through the physically bound water evolution test by means of the low-field nuclear magnetic resonance technology. The test results show that the hydration process can be characterized by four-stage patterns based on the zero points of the second-order differential hydration curve, i.e., the initial, accelerated, decelerated, and steady periods. The beginning time of each stage is postponed and the hydration duration is prolonged with an increasing water to cement ratio. The beginning time of each stage and the hydration duration are shortened with an increasing content of nano-SiO2. And the beginning time of each stage and the hydration duration are prolonged with an increasing content of superabsorbent polymer. Based on the test data and the Avrami–Erofeev model, a modified hydration model taking the influence of nano-SiO2 and SAP into account is proposed, and the predicted results are consistent with the test results.

Abstract Background Ultra-deep next-generation sequencing of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) holds great promise as a tool for the early detection of cancer and for monitoring disease progression and therapeutic responses. However, the low abundance of ctDNA in the bloodstream coupled with technical errors introduced during library construction and sequencing complicates mutation detection. Results To achieve high accuracy of variant calling via better distinguishing low-frequency ctDNA mutations from background errors, we introduce TNER (Tri-Nucleotide Error Reducer), a novel background error suppression method that provides a robust estimation of background noise to reduce sequencing errors. The results on both simulated data and real data from healthy subjects demonstrate that the proposed algorithm consistently outperforms a current, state-of-the-art, position-specific error polishing model, particularly when the sample size of healthy subjects is small. Conclusions TNER significantly enhances the specificity of downstream ctDNA mutation detection without sacrificing sensitivity. The tool is publicly available at https://github.com/ctDNA/TNER.

A successful pregnancy depends on not only the tolerance of the fetal immune system by the mother but also resistance against the threat of hazardous microorganisms. Infection with pathogenic microorganisms during pregnancy may lead to premature delivery, miscarriage, growth restriction, neonatal morbidity, and other adverse outcomes. Moreover, the host also has an intact immune system to avoid these adverse outcomes. It is important to note the presence of normal bacteria in the maternal reproductive tract and the principal role of the maternal-placental-fetal interaction in antimicrobial immunity. Previous studies mainly focused on maternal infection during pregnancy. However, this review summarizes the new views on the study of the maternal microbiome and expounds the innate immune defense mechanism of the maternal vagina and decidua as well as how cytotrophoblasts and syncytiotrophoblasts recognize and kill bacteria in the placenta. Fetal immune systems, thought to be weak, also exhibit an immune defense function that is indispensable for maintaining the safety of the fetus. The skin, lungs, and intestines of the fetus during pregnancy constitute the main immune barriers. These findings will provide a new understanding of the effects of normal microbial flora and how the host resists harmful microbes during pregnancy. We believe that it may also contribute to the reference on the clinical prevention and treatment of gestational infection to avoid adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the most severe complications of diabetes without a clear pathogenesis. Th is study investigated the adiponectin (APN) and leptin levels in type II DCM, as well as their correlation with advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). From 2011–2013, 78 type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) cases (40–65 years old) in the Taian region were randomly selected. Based on the results of colour Doppler ultrasonography and coronary angiography, the cases were divided into a simple T2DM group (40 cases) and a DCM group (38 cases). Forty healthy subjects were used as normal control (NC). An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to determine the levels of fa tty infl ammatory factors such as APN, leptin and AGEs, and a correlation analysis was conducted. This paper describes an experimental investigation into the pore structure of cement mortar using mercury porosimeter. Ordinary Portland cement, manufactured sand, and natural sand were used. The porosity of the manufactured sand mortar is higher than that of natural sand at the same mix proportion; on the contrary, the probable pore size and threshold radius of manufactured sand mortar are finer. Besides, the probable pore size and threshold radius increased with increasing water to cement ratio and sand to cement ratio. In addition, the existing models of pore size distribution of cement-based materials have been reviewed and compared with test results in this paper. Finally, the extended Bhattacharjee model was built to examine the relationship between compressive strength and pore structure.
