We present the diffusiophoresis of ellipsoidal particles induced by ionic solute gradients. Contrary to the common expectation that diffusiophoresis is shape independent, here we show experimentally that this assumption breaks down when the thin Debye layer approximation is relaxed. By tracking the translation and rotation of various ellipsoids, we find that the phoretic mobility of ellipsoids is sensitive to the eccentricity and the orientation of the ellipsoid relative to the imposed solute gradient, and can further lead to nonmonotonic behavior under strong confinement. We show that such a shape- and orientation-dependent diffusiophoresis of colloidal ellipsoids can be easily captured by modifying theories for spheres.

Linguistic and psychometric validation of a translated questionnaire.To validate the Korean version of Zurich claudication questionnaire (ZCQ) both linguistically and psychometrically.The ZCQ is considered as a disease specific and gold standard measure for evaluation of patients with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). However, there has been no validated Korean version of the ZCQ.The ZCQ was translated forward and backward, culturally adapted by 2 independent translators, and approved by an expert committee. The final version of the Korean ZCQ was added to a routine questionnaire including a visual analog pain scale (VAS) for back and leg pain, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and the European Quality of Life-5 dimensions (EQ-5D). Psychometric validation included reliability by internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha, the test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and concurrent validity by comparing the Korean ZCQ to VAS for back/leg pain, ODI, and EQ-5D using Pearson correlation.A total of 109 patients were included in this study. The test-retest intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of the ZCQ was shown to have good reliability for all three domains: the ICCs for symptom, function, and satisfaction domains were 0.79, 0.84, and 0.91, respectively. Internal consistency of the Korean ZCQ for the symptom, function, and satisfaction domains was also excellent (Cronbach α = 0.894, 0.939, and 0.961, respectively). For concurrent validity, all three domains of the Korean ZCQ were significantly correlated with external criteria including VAS for back/leg pain, ODI, and EQ-5D. In the assessment of responsiveness, 21 patients who completed the ZCQ both before and after surgery demonstrated significantly different scores for symptom and disability domains.The validated Korean version of the ZCQ is a transculturally equivalent, reliable, and valid tool for use in assessing symptoms, function, and satisfaction with treatment in patients with LSS.3.

Contact line dynamics is crucial in determining the deposition patterns of evaporating colloidal droplets. Using high-speed interferometry, we directly observe the stick-slip motion of the contact line in situ and are able to resolve the instantaneous shape of the inkjet-printed, evaporating pico-liter drops containing nanoparticles of varying wettability. Integrated with post-mortem optical profilometry of the deposition patterns, the instantaneous particle volume fraction and hence the particle deposition rate can be determined. The results show that the stick-slip motion of the contact line is a strong function of the particle wettability. While the stick-slip motion is observed for nanoparticles that are less hydrophilic (i.e., particle contact angle θ ≈ 74° at the water-air interface), which results in a multiring deposition, a continuous receding of the contact line is observed for more hydrophilic nanoparticles (i.e., θ ≈ 34°), which leaves a single-ring pattern. A model is developed to predict the number of particles required to pin the contact line based on the force balance of the hydrodynamic drag, interparticle interactions, and surface tension acting on the particles near the contact line with varying particle wettability. A three-fold increase in the number of particles required for pinning is predicted when the particle wettability increases from the wetting angle of θ ≈ 74° to θ ≈ 34°. This finding explains why particles with greater wettability form a single-ring pattern and those with lower wettability form a multi-ring pattern. In addition, the particle deposition rate is found to depend on the particle wettability and vary with time.

Lubricated surfaces have recently been introduced and studied due to their potential benefit in various configurations and applications. Combining the techniques of total internal reflection microscopy and reflection interference microscopy, we examine the dynamics of an underlying air film upon drop impact on a lubricated substrate where the thin liquid film is immiscible to the drop. In contrast to drop impact on solid surfaces where even the smallest asperities cause random breakup of the entraining air film, we report two air film failure mechanisms on lubricated surfaces. In particular, using ≈5 μm thick liquid films of high viscosity, which should make the substrate nearly atomically smooth, we show that air film rupture shifts from asperity-driven to a controlled event. At low Weber numbers (We 10), the air film failure occurs much earlier in time at the first inflection point of the air film shape away from the drop center, where the liquid–liquid van der Waals interactions become important. The predictable failure modes of the air film upon drop impact sheds light on droplet deposition in applications such as lubricant-infused self-cleaning surfaces.

Background and purpose — There are few studies on overgrowth of the affected limb after treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). We investigated the incidence of overgrowth and its risk factors in DDH patients. Patients and methods — 101 patients were included in this study. Overgrowth was defined by 2 criteria: when the height of the femoral head of the affected side was higher than that of the contralateral side by more than 10 mm, or by more than 15 mm. The potential risk factors of distinct overgrowth were retrospectively examined using multivariable analysis. Results — When overgrowth was defined as femoral head height difference (FHHD) > 10 mm, its incidence was 44%, and only femoral osteotomy was identified as a significant risk factor with a relative risk (RR) of 1.6 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.0–2.5). When overgrowth was defined as FHHD > 15 mm, its incidence was 23%, and femoral osteotomy was identified as the only significant risk factor with an RR of 2.3 (CI 1.2–4.5). Overgrowth developed more frequently in patients who underwent femoral osteotomy at the age of 2 to 4 years (87%) than in the others (46%) (p = 0.04). Interpretation — Overgrowth of the affected limb is common in DDH patients. Patients who underwent femoral osteotomy, especially at the age of 2 to 4 years, may require careful follow-up because of the substantial risk for overgrowth.

Inkjet printing of biopolymer droplets is gaining popularity because of its potential applications in regenerative medicine, particularly the fabrication of tissue-regenerative scaffolds. The quality of bioprinting, which affects cellular behaviors and the subsequent tissue formation, is determined by the solvent evaporation and deposition processes of biopolymer droplets, during which instantaneous local viscosity and surface tension changes occur because of the redistribution of the biopolymer inside the drop. Such dynamics is complex and not well understood. Most biopolymer inks also contain multiple solvents of distinct evaporation rates, further complicating the system dynamics. Using high-speed interferometry, we directly observe in real time the instantaneous drop shape of inkjet-printed picoliter gelatin drops containing glycerol and water. It is observed that, for bisolvent gelatin drops with surfactants, highly viscous gelatin and glycerol accumulated near the pinned contact line at an early stage suppress the evaporation-driven outward flow and create a stagnation zone near the contact line region. Lower surface tension at the contact line, because of its high local surfactant concentration, as compared to the drop apex induces a strong Marangoni recirculation, which in conjunction with a stagnation zone in the contact line region causes the instantaneous drop shape to transition from a spherical cap to a volcano shape during evaporation and resulting in a volcano-like deposition profile. In contrast, the suppressed evaporation outward flow together with a weak Marangoni flow leads to a domelike deposition for the case without surfactant. The role of surfactant in polymer drop deposition with water-only solvent is also investigated and compared against that of bisolvent drops. For the single-solvent case, the deposition profile is found to shift from a coffee-eye shape in the presence of surfactant to a uniform deposition without surfactant. The results reveal new insight into the complex role surfactant plays during polymer drop evaporation and deposition processes.

The preoperative status of the teres minor (Tm) can affect the outcome of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). The effect of preoperative Tm hypertrophy on the outcome of RTSA is unclear.A total of 86 shoulders that underwent RTSA were retrospectively enrolled. Of these, 48 cases with a Tm occupation ratio (OR) of0.288 in the preoperative magnetic resonance image were assigned to the hypertrophic group, and 38 cases to the control group. The two groups were compared with respect to preoperative rotator cuff tear involvement, fatty infiltration, pre- and postoperative rotator cuff ORs, pain scores, functional scores, range of motion, and muscle strength. Postoperative Tm ORs in 1-year follow-up multidetector computed tomography were compared with preoperative Tm ORs.Preoperatively, integrities of infraspinatus (ISP) and supraspinatus were significantly different between the 2 groups (P = .001, 0.009, each). Preoperative ISP ORs were significantly related to preoperative Tm ORs (r = -0.534, P.001). The mean pre- to postoperative change of Tm ORs in the hypertrophic group decreased (-0.029 ± 0.068), whereas that of the control group increased (+0.047 ± 0.092). Postoperative pain scores, functional scores, range of motion, and muscle strength were not different between groups.In cases of advanced rotator cuff tear requiring RTSA, Tm hypertrophy is found to be related to tear and atrophy of the ISP, suggesting that Tm hypertrophy is a compensatory change for ISP dysfunction. However, Tm hypertrophy was observed to diminish after RTSA. Preoperative Tm hypertrophy appears to have no beneficial effect on the outcomes of RTSA.

Ellipsoidal particles have previously been shown to suppress the coffee-ring effect in millimeter-sized colloidal droplets. Compared to their spherical counterparts, ellipsoidal particles experience stronger adsorption energy to the drop surface where the anisotropy-induced deformation of the liquid–air interface leads to much greater capillary attractions between particles. Using inkjet-printed colloidal drops of varying drop size, particle concentration, and particle aspect ratio, the present work demonstrates how the suppression of the coffee ring is not only a function of particle anisotropy but rather a competition between the propensity for particles to assemble at the drop surface via capillary interactions and the evaporation-driven particle motion to the contact line. Under conditions of in-use, insulation performance tests can be divided into measurement method using the vehicle’'s own RESS as DC voltage source and measurement method using DC voltage from off-vehicle sources.However, these tests can not be applied after a post-crash because parts of high voltage system cover should beremoved, and insulation performance can be influenced during these tests.Therefore, we proposed post-crash insulation performance test methods for preventing electric shock through problem analysis of previous post-crash insulation performance tests. Also, test equipment which can measure voltage absence and total energy was developed. We verified performance of the equipment through experiments with vehicle test. Among ground impedance measurement methods, the fall-of-potential method is the most thorough and reliable method. In the fall-of-potential method, ground electrode and auxiliary probes are placed in a straight line, and then, auxiliary potential probe is moved away from the ground electrode. The point at which plotted resistance curve flattens out is taken as right position of auxiliary potential probe. However, in some cases, it is hard to place ground electrode and auxiliary probes in a straight line. Therefore, we provided alternative placement method in this research. The method can be easily applicable to placing auxiliary probes. Also, this paper analyzed and compared ground impedance measurement standards of large grounding systems. Based on the analysis, practical measurement method using an earth tester was proposed. The proposed methods presented in this paper will be useful when determining locations of auxiliary probes in alternative positions, and the methods can be applied practically and easily.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle(HFCV) is system that uses electrical energy of fuel cell stack to main power source, which is different system with other vehicles that use high-voltage, large-current. Isolation performance of this system which is connected with electrical fire and electrical shock is important point. Isolation resistance of electric installation is divided according to working voltage, it follows criterion more than /VDC (or /VAC) about system operation voltage in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Although measurement of isolation resistance in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is two methods, it uses mainly measurement by megger. However, the present isolation resistance measurement system that is optimized to use in electrical facilities is unsuitable for isolation performance estimation of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle because of limit of maximum short current and difference of measurement resolution. Therefore, this research developed the isolation resistance measurement system so that may be suitable in isolation performance estimation of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, verified isolation performance about known resistance by performance verification of laboratory level about developed system, and executed performance verification through comparing results of developed system by performance verification of vehicle level with ones of existing megger. Developed system is judged to aid estimation and upgrade of isolation performance in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle hereafter.

In this paper, we experimented and analyzed about electric fire risk assessment methods of LED lightings for outdoor. LED lighting is composed of AC power lines, AC/DC converter, DC power lines and LED lamps. There are some risk factors of electric fire in LED lighting such as short circuit between power lines or power line and ground, dielectric breakdown, leakage current, abnormal voltage inflow, poor contacts(connections), etc. As a result of this study, insulation coverings of wire was ignited due to dielectric breakdown between power lines and molten marks were formed in copper conductor. LED lighting was blown out while short circuit, beside that, electrical disorder did not occur. When abnormal voltage was inflowed, electronic components such as varistor, condenser were damaged. Partial heating was produced and insulation was melted and carbonized by arc and heating while poor contacts were happened. We expect that the results of this study would be helpful for electrical safety of LED lightings for outdoor.

This paper deals with investigation on the spot for grounding systems of buildings based on international standards at construction sites. The investigation was carried out for grounding method, grounding type, shape of grounding electrode, grounding for a lightning protection system, continuity of steelwork in reinforced concrete structures, etc. The investigation on the spot was performed by a researcher and engineer with over fifteen years of industry experience all over the country. As a result of the investigation on the spot in 13 buildings, common grounding and structure grounding methods were dominant. The safety improvement methods include installation of equipotential bonding conductors for the connection to the main earthing terminal, equipotential bonding conductors for supplementary bonding, use of Surge Protective Devices (SPD), and safe connections between earthing conductors and the rebar.

In this parer, we design the artificial intelligent direction escape light control system to improve/complete the defects of the existing fire fighting system, and sketch an optimum escape guide algorithm for its implementation. It intends to minimize human casualties and injuries by calculating/predicting moving line of the optimum emergency escape, by means of interlocking the sensor and the reception group and analyzing the data of the combustion point and the smoke movement. The optimum escape algorithm is designed by FLOYD algorithm which calculates the shortest distance. It consists of the measuring method which calculates the shortest distance by using hazardous factors for each condition in danger which is judged by the sensor installed in each area.

In this study, methods of overheat detection at the coupling or wire in electrical facility are investigated, operating characteristic about the optic temperature sensor for continuous on-line temperature monitoring in diagnostics system of electrical facility is analyzed. Heating sources in the experiment for operating characteristics of optic temperature sensor use black body and hot plate, output voltage of optic temperature sensor in accordance with temperature variation is analyzed. Overheat generation due to poor contact at the circuit breaker in panel board detects using a thermocouple, infrared thermal camera and optic temperature sensor, and experiment results are analyzed. The effect of optic temperature sensor is the same that of other methods. These results expect to use basic research material for adjusting field of electrical diagnostics system using RFID type optic temperature sensor in the near future.

When a fire breaks out, it is frequent that large sized miserable death is happened by seriousness of poisonous gas and peculiarity of space because the building construction is recently more complex and diverse. So early countermeasure in preparation for evacuation escape linked directly with a loss of lives is pressing. Because escape light that mark fixing one-way of existing way is not efficiently extricated refugees from dangers when a fire breaks out, construction of system that can extricate refugees from dangers and suppress early a fire by grasping correctly fire point is required urgently. When a fire breaks out, all escape lights connected with fire sensor and reception group which have ill aiming in these point will lead people to safe emergency entrance of opposite direction of place that a fire is broken out after being calculated the direction and speed of flame and smoke. There is the purpose of my research in development of artificial intelligent directional escape light that can mark direction to most suitable pull-out and assist in early extinguishing a fire.

This paper deals with the assessment of potential interference between individual grounding electrodes using an Electrolytic Tank Modeling method, When a test current was passed through a grounding electrode, potential rise was treasured and analyzed using an electrolytic tank in real time. In order to analyze the potential interference between grounding electrodes, a reduced scale modeling method was studied. Potential interference between isolated grounding electrodes was evaluated as a function of the separation distance between grounding electrodes and the configuration of grounding electrode to be induced. It was found that the separation distance between grounding electrodes was a major factor in reducing the potential interference.

Recent interest in printable electronics and in particular paper- and textile-based electronics has fueled research in inkjet printing of colloidal drops on porous substrates. On nonporous substrates, the interplay of particle motion and solvent evaporation determines the final deposition morphology of the evaporating colloidal drop. For porous substrates, solvent infiltration into the pores adds a layer of complexity to the deposition patterns that have not been fully elucidated in the literature. In this study, the deposition of picoliter-sized aqueous colloidal droplets containing nanometer- and micrometer-sized particles onto nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide substrates is examined for different drop and particle sizes and relative humidities as well as pore diameters, porosities, and wettabilities of the porous substrates. For the cases considered, solvent infiltration is found to be much faster than both evaporation and particle motion near the contact line, and thus when the substrate fully imbibes the solvent, the well-known "coffee-ring" deposition is suppressed. However, when the solvent is only partially imbibed, a residual droplet volume exists upon completion of the infiltration. For such cases, two time scales are of importance: the time for particle motion to the contact line as a result of both diffusion and advection, t(P), and the evaporation time of the residual drop volume, t(EI). Their ratio, t(P)/t(EI), determines whether the coffee-ring deposition will be formed (t(P)/t(EI)1) or suppressed (t(P)/t(EI)1).

The electrical fire frequently happens through careless use such as poor contact, mechanical stress on power cord sets. In this paper, we simulated a wall-model in order to investigate the patterns of fire dispersion on power cord sets which consists of vinyl cord and rubber cord, etc. The fire progress and dispersive patterns were measured by a high speed imaging system(HG-100K, REDLAKE, USA). From the results, the fire pattern of power cord sets was progressed in order of flashover, scattering and disconnection. The short-circuit of the vinyl cords happened easier than the rubber cords by the external flame. In case vinyl cord is disconnected. the fire progress is not observed because the ignition energy decreases. Whereas, the fire progressed continuously in case of the rubber cord.

In order to study the characteristics of copper wire according to the variation of fusing current, melting process of wire has been analyzed and the analysis of structure has been performed. Melting process was taken with HSIS (High Speed Imaging System) at a rate of 500 frames per second. A flash of light was seen at the center of the wire during melting process and a lot of small beads were scattered from the center to the outside of the wire. In the analysis of metallurgical structure, small dots grew into dendrite structure by overcurrent. Dendrite structure appeared in case that the values of current increase rate are lower than 2.5[A/sec], and the structure grew more according to the larger fusing time. Therefore, the growth of dendrite structure was related to the fusing time (current increase rate per time). The shorter the fusing time was, the narrower the melted areas were. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer) analysis showed that oxygen is included in black dots of dendrite structure. An empirical equation was derived based on the experiments of fusing current, and the relationship among Preece, Onderdonk and the empirical equation was analyzed. The results will be applicable to the cause analysis of electrical fire because fusing time and fusing current can be calculated through the metallurgical analysis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quantitative accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) rendered images acquired with multi-detector row computed tomography (MDCT) by means of distance measurements of a dry human skull for various slice thicknesses and acquisition modes. A radiologist directly measured the distance of line items on the skull surface to establish reference "gold standards." The skull specimen was scanned with a MDCT with various scanning parameters (slice thicknesses and acquisition modes). An observer measured the corresponding distances of the same items on 3D rendered images. The quantitative accuracy of distance measurements was statistically evaluated. In this paper, we experimented the glowing and heating phenomenon at the contacts of copper wires, and studied the breeding process, the growing characteristics of copper oxide according to the diameter of copper wires and AC current. The surface structure, crystalline structure, compositions and calory variation of Cu2O that grew at the contacts of two copper wires were analyzed by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), metallurgical microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As these results, we could know that carbonization and oxidation reaction generated on the outside of the oxide, and only oxidation reaction generated in the inside of the oxide

There are many electrical connection parts in the electrical apparatus. Electrical connectors (for example; an outlet or a plug, etc) are devices that connect electric energy and complete electrical circuits. In these connections, the heat is generated by the poor contact according to the slack and the vibration between an outlet receptacle and a plug pins. Excessive heat generation can occur when current, acceptable for the rating of the wire, passes through a poor contact. When overheating due to poor contact occurs, current passes through the increased resistance of a poor connection that is connected in series with the desired load. The heat is generated and the temperature increases, causing degradation of the surrounding combustibles at a focused point or small area. In this paper, it is studied the heating and electrical properties according to the poor contact at PVC insulated plug, and analyzed surface state, surface structure of the grown oxide at the contact part of PVC insulated plug pins. We expect to contribute to prevention of the electrical accident occurring at PVC insulated plug contact part on the basis of this paper.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the image quality and discriminative ability of FDG-PET images reconstructed by filtered back projection (FBP) and ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) in patients with lung cancer. Thirty-six subjects including normal controls and lung cancer patients underwent whole body PET scan (emission 3 min, transmission 1 min) using a GE Advance scanner after the administration of approximately 370 MBq of FDG. The raw data were then reconstructed by conventional FBP and OSEM. The PET images were interpreted by two observers with random exposure of normal and diseased cases for transverse and coronal sections. The results were evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The optimal parameters for reconstructing by OSEM involved 2 iterations and 16 subsets. The image quality of thirty-six subjects including normal controls and lung cancer patients reconstructed by OSEM was generally superior to FBP in terms of visual analysis. Though FBP had poor image quality, it had better image contrast than OSEM. The ROC curve plotted for the identification of lung cancer in coronal sections showed better results than in transverse sections by FBP and OSEM, except for the OSEM result of observer 2. ROC analysis showed that OSEM performed better than conventional FBP in terms of its discriminative ability of lung cancer with FDG PET, although there was no significant difference in the area under the ROC curve (p-value >0.05). The results suggest that the simultaneous use of FBP and OSEM images is helpful for the FDG-PET diagnosis of lung cancer.

This study evaluated the quantitative measurements of three-dimensional (3D) volume images using multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) and one skull specimen. Twenty-one linear distances were measured five times each by vernier caliper. A dry human skull was imaged with MDCT for various acquisition parameters at slice thicknesses of 1.25, 2.50, 3.75, and 5.00 mm for the different acquisition modes of axial and spiral scan. The distance of each corresponding item displayed on 3D rendered images was measured seven times by an uninvolved observer using a 3D software tool. Data analysis was performed to determine if there were any statistically significant differences in acquisition parameters. No significant image differences were found among the scan modes for each slice thickness. For a given scan mode, acquisition slice thickness was the important factor for quantitative measurement of 3D rendered CT images.
