Microencapsulation is a protective process for materials that are sensitive to harsh conditions encounted during food manufacture and storage. The objectives of this research were to manufacture a milk protein-based delivery system (MPDS) containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) using skim milk powder and to investigate the effects of manufacturing variables, such as reaction temerpature and holding time, on the physiccohemical properties of MPDS and viability of LGG under dairy food processing and storage conditions. MPDS was prepared using chymosin at varing reaction temperatures from 25°C to 40°C for 10 min and holding times from 5 to 30 min at 25°C. The morphological and physicochemical properties of MPDS were evaluated using a confocal laser scanning microscope and a particle size analyzer, respectively. The number of viable cells were determined using the standard plate method. Spherical-shaped MPDS particles were successfully manufactured. The particle size of MPDS was increased with a decrease in reaction temperature and an increase in holding time. As reaction temperature and holding time were increased, the encapsulation efficiency of LGG in MPDS was increased. During pasteurization, the use of MPDS resulted in an increase in the LGG viability. The encapsulation of LGG in MPDS led to an increase in the viability of LGG in simulated gastric fluid. In addition, the LGG viability was enhanced with an increase in reaction temperature and holding time. In conclusions, the encapsulation of LGG in MPDS could be an effective way of improving the viability of LGG during pasturization process in various foods.

With the global trend toward an aging population, the increasing number of dementia patients and elderly living alone has emerged as a serious social issue in South Korea. The assessment of activities of daily living (ADL) is essential for diagnosing dementia. However, since the assessment is based on the ADL questionnaire, it relies on subjective judgment and lacks objectivity. Seven healthy seniors and six with early-stage dementia participated in the study to obtain ADL data. The derived ADL features were generated by smart home sensors. Statistical methods and machine learning techniques were employed to develop a model for auto-classifying the normal controls and early-stage dementia patients. The proposed approach verified the developed model as an objective ADL evaluation tool for the diagnosis of dementia. A random forest algorithm was used to compare a personalized model and a non-personalized model. The comparison result verified that the accuracy (91.20%) of the personalized model was higher than that (84.54%) of the non-personalized model. This indicates that the cognitive ability-based personalization showed encouraging performance in the classification of normal control and early-stage dementia and it is expected that the findings of this study will serve as important basic data for the objective diagnosis of dementia.

As COVID-19 has created an unprecedented world, social workers in Korea are also dealing with the enormous changes. This reflective essay presents an update on current social work in the country in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The essay also addresses challenges and concerns in the social welfare scenes in Korea, provides critical commentary and calls for action in international contexts.

Recently, the importance of spatial data has been increasing due to the diversification of spatial data collection and utilization. Among them, aerial photography is used as a base data, not only for simulation and open platforms, but also for research purposes. However, aerial photographs can have problems in its quality due to the collection process, and there are many limitations to analyzing and re-collecting them due to large amounts of data, time and cost issues. To solve this problem, we present a system that detects and classifies missing parts in the aerial photographs using CNN models and performs inpainting using AutoEncoder. The systems presented were detected and classified error using the most accurate ResNet18 (75.69%) of the various CNN models and compared the results of the inpainting through VAE and U-Net.

The effects of impurities on the generation of voids in composites fabricated by vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding was investigated to help reduce mechanical weakening in large structures. Impurities were intentionally inserted into laminates, which were then observed optically. Internal voids were generated in specimens with impurities of 2 – 3mm thickness. The voids grew as the impurities' thicknesses increased to 4 – 5 mm. The voids' diameters were proportional to the thickness of the impurity. Void generation was shown to depend on the thickness of impurities. Environmental control during vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding was shown to be important for ensuring the quality of the resulting composites.

This study investigated a flow rate control system for the vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process. Using Darcy’s equation, the permeability of multiaxial glass fiber composites is predicted and experimentally confirmed. The resin velocity vector is inversely proportional to the fiber mat length and resin viscosity, but proportional to the fiber mat permeability. In this study, the permeability of the preform and viscosity of the epoxy resin were measured using multiaxial glass fiber by VARTM. The permeability and time for impregnation differed according to the fiber direction in the VARTM process. The results indicated the need for further study of reinforcement fiber permeability in VARTM processing design.

This study intends to study about the blade performance loss occurred due to the variation in the shape of airfoil from the attachment/non-attachment of blade erosion shield for hovercraft. This study model has used NACA 4412, has designed NACA 4412 by using Auto CAD and designed the shape that has attached an erosion shield to this model according to the thickness and length. By using these models, we have generated a grid by using GAMBIT and calculated the lift coefficient (Cl) and drag coefficient (Cd) by using the FLUENT code for flow analysis. Through this, we have calculated and compared the lift-to-drag ratio that is an indicator of airfoil performance according to the shape and attachment/non-attachment of erosion shield.

Fabrication of complete denture by Jiro Abe's method was introduced that enhance the retention and stability of denture by sealing around the denture border with mucous membrane to make negative pressure at the inner surface of denture base when swallowing or occlusion. In this case, taking impression and fabricating complete denture by the Jiro Abe's method for an edentulous patient with severe mandibular alveolar bone resorption allowed us to obtain clinically enhance stability of denture and improve satisfaction of patient. It is important to produce a provisional restoration reflecting the patient's jaw relation, occlusal plane, lip support, shape of teeth, and occlusion type for fully edentulous patients before making a definite prosthesis. The patient introduced in this study showed bad prognosis of remained tooth after severe periodontal diseases. Therefore, remaining teeth were extracted and replaced with dental implants. Provisional restorations were fabricated and the the patient's vertical and horizontal jaw relationship, occlusal plane, amount of overjet and overbite, size of teeth, and length of anterior tooth were recorded. Provisional restorations were scanned and CAD/CAM techniques were used to fabricate a monolithic zirconia bridge, which contour is identical with the provisional restorations. The patient was satisfied with the treatment results on functional, esthetic aspects and the prosthesis retained stable during the four-month clinical observation period. Background and Objectives:Many studies have established risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. The Duke treadmill score has gained widespread acceptance for prognosis and diagnosis in cardiac diseases. Recently, changes in heart rate during and after exercise have also been studied to predict the prognosis of cardiac diseases. We examined the relationship between the incidence of cardiovascular events and exercise capacity, achievement of 85% maximal predicted heart rate (MPHR) or heart rate recovery (HRR) after a routine exercise treadmill test. Subjects and Methods:We studied 88 patients with chest pain who were over the age of 30. They were referred for exercise treadmill test for assessment of chest pain and underwent symptom-limited, exercise test with a cool down period of 30 seconds. HRR was defined as the difference in heart rate between peak exercise and 1 minute after exercise. Delta heart rate (DHR) was defined as the difference in heart rate between resting and peak exercise. Other parameters in the exercise test were also measured. Results:Cardiovascular events were found in 13 of the 88 patients. In the events group, age, peak heart rate in exercise, ST depression, maximal exercise capacity, HRR, DHR and achievement of 85% MPHR were all significant variables. There was a favorable prognosis in the patients with a value of HRR >22 beats/minute and a value of DHR >83 beats/minute. Even after adjusting for age, sex, ST depression and left ventricular hypertrophy, the parameters of maximal exercise capacity, HRR, DHR, and achievement of 85% MPHR remained predictive prognostic factors in cardiovascular events. Conclusion:Parameters in exercise treadmill test, such as maximal exercise capacity, HRR, DHR and achievement of 85% MPHR, appear to provide additional information and are important variables associated with the prediction of risk in cardiac events. Background and Objectives:The Duke treadmill exercise score (DTS has been used to stratify patients with coronary artery disease into low-, moderate-, and high-risk groups. To determine the coronary angiographic and myocardial scintigraphic correlates of these scores, we have compared the degree of risk assessed by the DTS and with those obtained by angiography and SPECT. Subjects and Methods:The subjects were classified into low risk (DTS≥5, moderate risk ( 4> DTS≥-11 and high risk (DTS 10 abnormal segments, group 3 (n=41 had one vessel disease and less than 5 abnormal segments, and group 2 (n=41 included the remaining subjects. Based on the DTS, 37 (36% were in the low-risk, 44 (43% in the moderate risk, and 21 (21% in the high risk groups. In the low-risk DTS patients, 32.4% were in group 1, 35.2% in group 2 and 32.4% in group 3. In relation to the subjects with moderate risk DTS, there were 9, 16 and 55% in groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Whereas, there were 19, 24 and 57% in groups 1, 2 and 3 with high risk DTS subjects, respectively. Conclusion:Although considerable overlap exists, the degree of risk assessed from the angiography and SPECT findings were different from those by DTS. We suggest that patients classified into the low-risk DTS group may have extensive coronary artery disease, or myocardial perfusion SPECT abnormalities, whereas patients in the high-risk DTS group may be normal, or have mild coronary artery disease or mild SPECT abnormalities. Background:It has been well recognized that exercise tolerance and angina threshold in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) are reduced after a meal. But precise mechanism leading to the postprandial worsening of angina has yet to be adequately defined. This study was undertaken to determine the effect of a mixed meal on cardiac performance and heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with CAD. Methods:24 patients with angina or myocardial infarction were studied. We report acase of hypervascular metastatic thyroid carcinoma of the jugular fora-men simulating a glomus jugulare tumor. Computed tomography(CT) revealed areas of irregular lytic bony destruction of the left jugular foramen, as well as characteristic in vasion routes of a glomus jugulare tumor. Magnetic resonance(MR) imaging and angiography demonstrated a hypervascular mass similar to a glomus tumor.
