The purpose of this study is to make a quantitative analysis and to compare scientific productivity between the countries of India and South Korea: both countries offer scholarships and fellowships for various programs and disciplines. The data are collected from SCOPUS through the open access portal www.scimagojr.com and mainly focus on rank and number of publications, global publication share and growth of publications, international collaboration pattern, quality of publications, and open access pattern. Various bibliometric indicators have been used along with simple percentage. Further, a new relative indicator Relative Open Access Index (ROAI) is proposed to compare the number of documents in an open access platform with its overall scientific production. Among the most productive countries, India is ranked at fifth and South Korea at thirteenth in the year 2018. India improved by eight positions while South Korea did by three from 1998 to 2018 at the global level. South Korea has a higher proportion of publications with international collaboration as compared to India. Both countries maintain better positions in a few disciplines such as chemical engineering and materials science.

The Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) is a national standard classification system of the Korean library community published and maintained by the Classification Committee of the Korean Library Association. This article examines its general history from its advent to the latest edition (KDC 6), its usage, external characteristics including format and layout, internal principles and characteristics including outline and classificatory principles applied, general aspects of the schedule and the major tables, development and maintenance, and general evaluation. It concludes with some ideas and recommendations for future research and development.

This study investigates the customers’ perceptions on three traditional dimensions of the perceived library service quality (library personnel; library resources and user services; and facilities and equipment), customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty of the public library users. Survey data using simplified questionnaires were analyzed which were collected from 1015 users of public libraries in 2015 and 2019 respectively in South Korea. The results show that they were generally satisfied with public library services and want to visit them again and/or recommend them to others based on the good perceptions on the public library service quality, because the means of each variable on a Likert 5-point scale was fairly high: customer satisfaction 3.85, customer loyalty 4.12, and perceived service quality 3.80 (library personnel 3.80, library resources and user services 3.81, and facilities and equipment 3.79). Each of three dimensions of perceived service quality had statistically significant positive impacts both on customer satisfaction and on the loyalty of the users, and that customer satisfaction had statistically significant positive impacts on customer loyalty. Different groups by gender, age, education, and occupation show the mean differences in customer loyalty. This article suggests research and managerial implications and limitations of the study.

This study develops a simplified Library Customer Satisfaction Index (LCSI Lite) for public libraries. Using data collected from questionnaires administered at four public libraries in South Korea, structural equation modeling was used to measure the scores. The suggested model was confirmed to have good acceptable fit, and that three dimensions of service quality (library personnel, library resources and user services, and facilities and equipment) influenced loyalty via customer satisfaction. After successful factor analysis and reliability testing, three items for library personnel, four for library resources and user services, two for facilities and equipment, two for customer satisfaction, and two for loyalty were analyzed. Means of each item in service quality were over 3.77, and those in satisfaction and loyalty were over 4.00. Direct and indirect effects of the dimensions of service quality were analyzed, with the effect of satisfaction on loyalty. LCSI Lite scores for the libraries as a whole (73.90 out of 100) and for each library were calculated using suggested formula. Finally, research and managerial implications, some recommendations and suggestions for further research, limitations, and conclusions were presented.

This study aims to develop an integrated model to analyze the behaviors of public library volunteers in order to help the libraries utilize them as helpful and important human resources. An integrated structural equation model which consists of factors affecting volunteering, volunteer satisfaction, continuation will of volunteering, and loyalty/contributing intention to the library has been developed and tested using survey data from 401 public library volunteers in Daegu Metropolitan City, Korea. Understanding/enhancement and value functions, as well as those significantly directly influencing volunteer satisfaction, are higher motivating factors than other functions of the Voluntary Function Inventory. Direct effects of factors affecting volunteering, and indirect effects mediated by volunteer satisfaction, both on the continuation will of volunteering and loyalty/contributing intention to the library of the volunteers, are investigated: volunteer satisfaction has strong direct positive effects on both factors. Considering the total effects, support and recognition, perceptions of experience, and understanding/enhancement function have positive effects on the continuation will of volunteering, whereas the career function has negative effects; and support and recognition, perceptions of volunteer experience, values function, protective function, understanding/enhancement function, and social function have positive effects on the loyalty/contributing intention to the library, whereas the career function has a negative weak effect on it. Mean differences among groups are also analyzed. Because this study is a kind of extensive exploratory research for library volunteers with some limitations, recommendations for further research are offered, as well as research and managerial implications based on the discussion.

This study analyzes in various aspects the success factors in the development of the ETRI Journal which has been published by the Electronic and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea, as an example case international journal by the institution. The results show that it ould be enlisted in SCI within 3 years after preparing the works for enlisting in it based on the supports from ETRI as well as the cooperation from members of the institution. From the first year 1996 when preparing the enlisting in SCI, the numbers of the articles published in each issue have been increased, and the members in ETRI have cooperated to publish their articles in the journal and cite the articles from the journal in their own articles and proceedings. The case of ETRI Journal shows that the journal published by institution can, in the first stage of its publication, take full advantage of its characteristics as an institution, if it can gain the cooperations both from the institution and its members.

This study analyzes the general operations of the current servi ces and usages, and the perceptions on the service quality and satisfaction of the 480 users of the electronic information centers (EIC) in the 5 selected university libraries in Daegu a nd Kyoungpook area. Each libraries provide various levels of their services. Service quality is su pposed to be comprised of 3 dimensions of facilities and equipments, contents, and staff. Each of thre e dimensions influences statistically significantly the user satisfaction of the EIC. Users are satis fied with the facilities and equipments highly. Users in each libraries show statistically different sa tisfactions in the dimensions of facilities and equipments, and contents, except staff dimension s. Users of each universities show different overall satisfactions on the EICs also. KEYWORDS Service Quality, Customer Satisfaction, Electronic Information Centers, EIC, Facilities and Equipments, Contents, Staff 1. 서 론 정보통신기술의 급격한 발달 등으로 인해 매일같이 빠르게 변화하는 정보사회 속에서 컴퓨터와 인터넷, 각종 통신매체 등의 사용에 익숙한 이용자세대가 등장하게 되었다. 이러한 이용자특성이 변화함에 따라 정보전달과 정보형태에도 새로운 변화가 요구되고 있다. 또한 이러한 이용자세대의 변화와 이용자들의 행동양식변화는 도서관의 공간구성을 포함한 이용자에 대한 서비스 등에도 영향을 주고 있다.특히 교육과 연구를 위한 기관으로서의 성격이 강한 대학도서관은 다양한 형태의 전자정보를 효율적으로 관리하고 이를 이용할 수 있는 물리적인 환경이 필요하게 되었다(안수희 2010, 1). 이용자의 경우에도 컴퓨터와 인터넷, 각종 디지털매체 등을 이용한 정보검색 및 활용이 증가하고 있으며, 도서관도 다양한 형태의 전자정보의 제공뿐만 아니라, 이를 활용할 수 있는 지원시설의 필요성이 점차 높아지고 있다(정재영 2007a, 68). 국내 대학도서관에서는 이러한 요구에 부응하기 위해, 전자정보실, 멀티미디어실, 디지털자료실 등 다양한 명칭으로 불리는 공간(이하 전자정보실로 통일함)을 설치하여 이용자들에게 디지털정보서비스를 제공하고 있다. 이런 점에서 전자정보실은 “대학구성원들의 교육과 연구, 학습에 필요한 각종 전자정보원을 한 장소에서 검색하고 열람하게 하는 정보검색공간, 새로운 정보기술과 효과적인 정보활용기능을 교육하기 위한 이용자교육공간, 교수학습지원을 위한 교육매체 제작공간”(오동근, 김숙찬 2004, 91)의

This study is to investigate and analyze the service quality and satisfaction perceived by users and librarians of the Foreign Research Information Center (FRIC). The survey results reveal that three groups of in-campus (internal) user group, external user group and interlibrary loan librarian group has highly perceived the service quality and satisfaction of the FRIC. Two user groups have statistically significant different perceptions on the service quality, loyalty, and satisfaction. Internal user group perceived more highly than external user group, in 6 items of satisfaction, 1 item of loyalty, and 7 items of service quality. Structural equation models of satisfaction and loyalty on two user groups were proved to be appropriate. Material factor including success rate of copied text and general physical status of the copy influences significantly on the user satisfaction in both groups.

This article investigated the lives and careers of three great librarians in India, USA, and Korea: S. R. Ranganathan, Melvil Dewey, and Bong-Suk Park, respectively. It also explored their influences and contributions. Their births and early years, and marriage; college years; commitment toward librarianship and careers; achievements in other areas; personalities; and commemorative activities, among others, were analyzed. Their contributions to librarianship and library community in the general theory of library science, professional education, classification and cataloging, library administration and management, and library associations and library movement were also investigated. Special focus was on Bong-Suk Park, with a special regard to his unrealized dream for the Korean library community as well as insufficient estimation related to him and his achievements.

Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) is described. KDC is a standard classification system officially published and maintained by the Korean Library Association. After tracing a brief history of modern classification in South Korea, we examine various characteristics and problems of KDC in detail, including the social context of developing it, its usage in the Korean libraries, the influences of other classifications on the system, characteristics of the schedule and major tables, and its newest edition (5 th ed.). We make eight suggestions and recommendations for future development of KDC, in particular, and for the development and maintenance of unique national classification, in general, based on experience in South Korea.

This study tries to survey general behaviors of the users and their`s perceptions on the service quality, with the staff members` expectations, of the Information Commons in the National Digital Library of Korea. `Computer Cluster,` `User guide service` and `Internet information` are most used and general facilities, services, and contents are most satisfied. The comparative analysis shows that the customers` perceptions of overall satisfaction, customer loyalty, and service quality and overall satisfaction of each three primary dimensions(library staff, resources and services, facility and physical environment) are higher than those of staff members` expectations.

This study analysed the user behaviors and satisfaction for the government information service of Nation Assembly Library of Korea, based on the questionnaires from users including the legislative employees and other library users. The results showed that legislative employees used the services more often and have more needs for the services than other users. Most legislative employees and other library users evaluated that the services should be improved and that it would be desirable to develop a portal system and services providing the integrated search and offering government information as one stop service.

This study is to investigate the user behavior of defense development and test researchers working for A research institute to provide advanced library services. Based on the prior studies about the subject, survey through questionnaires were conducted, and the data analyzed using SPSS 12.0. Results of the analyses are as follows: The researchers generally gathered information 2 to 3 times per month. The major reason for information gathering was to solve problems and do their tasks. They considered accuracy of information as the most important factor when they gather information. Finding and selecting information sources were the most difficult task for them in retrieving, acquiring and using information. They have most frequently used digital materials (67%), printed materials next (26%), and non-book materials (6%). Internet was both the most frequently used and most satisfied information source for the researchers.

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the influences of the selected antecedents on each type of complaining intentions and its relationship to complaining behavior of 582 university library users in South Korea.Design/methodology/approachData were collected through a survey, using a convenience sample of 582 dissatisfied university library users from five major universities located in Taegu Metropolitan City and Kyoung‐pook Province in South Korea. The sample was proportionate to general users in the university libraries in these areas.FindingsPerceived severity of dissatisfaction and personal norms had significant influences on the choice of negative word‐of‐mouth intention, direct and indirect voice intentions, and third‐party complaint intention. Societal benefits had significant influences on the choice of exit, negative word‐of‐mouth intention, and direct and indirect voice intentions. Difficulty of complaining and service importance had significant influences on negative word‐of‐mouth intention, and likelihood of success had significant influences on the direct and indirect voice intentions. There were significant relationships between experiences of doing the same types of complaining behavior before and the same types of complaining intentions.Research limitations/implicationsThis study was exploratory inorder to separate complaining intentions from the complaining behavior itself. Some variables, including external attribution and loyalty, which were not proved to be critical variables for complaining intentions, need to be investigated further to investigate whether or not they can be a useful variable for complaining behavior and intentions of academic library users. Some results from this study did not confirm the results of the study on the public library users that measured the complaint behavior and intentions together. Compared with the results of the study on the public library users, the values of adjusted R square in the regression of each dependent variables were much higher in this study except for the case of exit intention.Practical implicationsThis study proved that the complaining intention model, separated from complaining behavior, could successfully be applied to academic library services.Originality/valueOpines that feedback information through complaints can solve many problems and/or improve performance and service quality – and eventually help libraries satisfy their customers.

This study first examines the theoretical aspects in general of the philanthropy including donations, gifts, fundraising, and volunteers which can be applied to the public library situations in Korea. It analyzes the general situations of the philanthropy in the public libraries in Daegu Metropolitan City, and suggests the recommendations for the future. The libraries and librarians should develop systematic manuals for the programs and specifies them in a written form and try to apply various methods to motivate donors and volunteers tn continue tn participate in the programs.

This study investigates the influences of the antecedent factors on the complaints and resulting behaviors of 582 university library users in South Korea. There were statistically significant relationships between personal norms and negative word of mouth and indirect voice behaviors, between service importance and negative word-of-mouth behavior, and between perceived severity of dissatisfaction and most of the specific complaint responses.

This study Is to investigate extensively the complaint responses of the academic library users, with a special regard to those in Daegu Metropolitan City and in Kyungpook Province. It selects and analyzes empirically some of the antecedents of the complaining behaviors including perceived severity of dissatisfaction, perception of free un, attitude toward complaining, cost of the complaining, likelihood of success, product/service importance, external attributions and loyalty : and complaint responses including exit, voice(redress seeking), negative word-of-mouth and third party complaints, of the academic library users, based on the theoretical backgrounds. Final data through questionaries are obtained from 582 unsatisfied academic library users in 5 universities in those areas, 542 of them analysed with SPSS 11.0 for Windows.

This study analyzes the concepts and background of introducing preference order in general classification schemes and investigates and analyzes the major tables of preference of DDC 21 specifically in the Tables and in the Schedules. It also suggests specific examples for application in almost all cases of the tables of preference.

The aim of this study was to determine the unit load of NPS (non-point source) pollutants including organic variables such as BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), COD (chemical oxygen demand) and DOC (dissolved organic carbon), nitrogen and phosphorus constituents, and suspended solids (SS) and their event mean concentration (EMC) of runoff flows from a water-shed of mixed forest land use by intensive field experiments. Field monitoring for continuous measurements of rainfall, flow, and water quality was conducted over 12 storm events during 2008-2009 using automated and manual sampling methods. The EMCs of individual runoff event were estimated for each water quality constituent based on the flow rate and concentration data of runoff discharge. The average EMCs of BOD, COD, DOC, SS, TN (total nitrogen), NH4(+)-N, NO3(-)-N, TP (total phosphorus), PO4(3-)-P from the mixed forest land were 1.794, 3.498, 1.462, 10.269, 0.862, 0.044, 0.634, 0.034, and 0.005 mg/L, respectively. The annual unit loads of BOD, COD, DOC, SS, TN, NH4(+)-N, NO3(-)-N, TP and PO4(3-)-P were estimated as 66.9, 133.2, 55.5, 429.8, 36.5, 1.6, 26.9, 1.3 and 0.1 kg/(ha x yr), respectively. In addition, affecting parameters on the EMCs were investigated by statistic analysis of the field data. As a result, significant correlations with precipitation, rainfall intensity, and total runoff flows were found in most constituents.
