Abstract Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED), caused by porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), has been frequently occurring in the southwestern region of China over the past few years, continuously affecting the development of the swine industry. However, the genetic diversity and prevalence of PEDV strains circulating in the swine population in southwestern China in recent years have not been well studied. To address this gap, a total of 478 clinical samples were collected from 125 pig farms experiencing piglet diarrhea in 18 cities in southwestern China. The detection results revealed that 227 out of 478 samples tested positive for PEDV nucleic acid, with a positivity rate of 47.49%. Complete S gene sequences of 28 PEDV strains were obtained and classified into four subgroups, G1-a subgroup (classical strain), G1-b subgroup (S-INDEL), and two G2 subgroups (G2-a and G2-b), accounting for 17.86% (5/28), 3.57% (1/28), 35.71% (10/28), 42.86% (12/28) of the total sequenced strains, respectively. The coexistence of multiple genotypes indicates the complex genetic background and prevalence of PEDV in southwest China. Amino acid comparisons of the S proteins showed that the 28 PEDV strains sequenced in the study showed different patterns of variation in the epitope domains compared to vaccine strains belonging to different genotypes and contained many unique amino acid mutations compared to the reference strains, which might lead to immune escape of PEDV. The complex epidemiology of PEDV with multiple subgroups co-circulating in Southwest China underscores the importance of selecting appropriate vaccine strains based on locally prevalent strains and the ongoing need for epidemiological surveillance of PEDV. The emergence of new variant strains also highlights the urgency of developing updated vaccines, and effective management practices remain crucial for controlling PED outbreaks in pig farms.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes a highly contagious disease that threatens the global swine industry. Recent studies have focused on the damage that PRRSV causes to the reproductive system of male pigs, although pathological research is lacking. Therefore, we examined the pathogenic mechanisms in male piglets infected with PRRSV. Gross and histopathological changes indicated that PRRSV affected the entire reproductive system, as confirmed via immunohistochemical analysis. PRRSV infected Sertoli cells and spermatogonia. To test the new hypothesis that PRRSV infection in piglets impairs blood – testis barrier (BTB) development, we investigated the pathology of PRRSV damage in the BTB. PRRSV infection significantly decreased the quantity and proliferative capacity of Sertoli cells constituting the BTB. Zonula occludens-1 and β-catenin were downregulated in cell – cell junctions. Transcriptome analysis revealed that several crucial genes and signalling pathways involved in the growth and development of Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, and tight junctions in the testes were downregulated. Apoptosis, necroptosis, inflammatory, and oxidative stress-related pathways were activated, whereas hormone secretion-related pathways were inhibited. Many Sertoli cells and spermatogonia underwent apoptosis during early differentiation. Infected piglets exhibited disrupted androgen secretion, leading to significantly reduced testosterone and anti-Müllerian hormone levels. A cytokine storm occurred, notably upregulating cytokines such as tumour necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6. Markers of oxidative-stress damage (i.e. H2O2, malondialdehyde, and glutathione) were upregulated, whereas antioxidant-enzyme activities (i.e. superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, and catalase) were downregulated. Our results demonstrated that PRRSV infected multiple organs in the male reproductive system, which impaired growth in the BTB.

Objective To explore the effect of hierarchical phased teaching method with nursing disease knowledge as the assessment goal in elderly patients with lung cancer in clinical nursing teaching of thoracic surgery. Methods Ninety nursing students who practiced in the Department of Thoracic Surgery Chestsurgery of the First Hospital of Jilin University from July 2021 to June 2022 were selected as the study subjects and divided into the experimental group(n=45) and the control group(n=45) by the random number table.The experimental group used hierarchical phased teaching method,and the control group used traditional teaching method.After 4 weeks of teaching,the teaching effect of the two groups of students was compared through the nursing related theoretical knowledge,operation skill examination and internship satisfaction questionnaire survey of elderly patients with lung cancer and the evaluation of nursing clinical decision-making ability. Results The scores of nursing related theoretical examination and operation skill examination of elderly patients with lung cancer in the test group were higher than those in the control group(P0.05). Conclusion In clinical nursing teaching of thoracic surgery,the application of hierarchical phased teaching method with nursing related theoretical knowledge and operation skills of elderly patients with lung cancer as the assessment goal improves the students′ theoretical knowledge level,practical operation skills and clinical nursing decision-making ability,so that students are satisfied with clinical nursing teaching.This teaching method is worth popularizing and applying in clinical nursing teaching of thoracic surgery.

Single-phase center multiple azimuth beam (SPC MAB) mode is an effective method for high-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) SAR imaging. The traditional azimuth spectrum reconstruction method for SPC MAB mode is based on the combination scheme from which fake targets along the azimuth direction arise because the inter-beam interference is not considered. When the real antenna mode is inconsistent with the ideal one, the disadvantages of the combination scheme become more serious. In this paper, based on the basic theory of the low-pass, band-limited, multiple-channel under-sampling and reconstruction, a novel digital beam-forming method is proposed for the SPC MAB imaging mode with ideal antenna mode first. The method analyzes the system functions of the sub-beams, based on which digital beam-forming filters are designed for all the sub-beams. The designed filters can reconstruct the correct wide-bandwidth azimuth spectrum and suppress the inter-beam interference simultaneously. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended to SPC MAB mode with the non-ideal antenna mode. The simulation experiments prove the validities of the proposed method both for azimuth spectral reconstruction and the inter-beams interfering suppressing, no matter that the SPC MAB’s antenna mode is ideal or non-ideal.

Porcine circovirus 4 (PCV4) was identified in 2019 as a novel circovirus species and then proved to be pathogenic to piglets. However, there is a lack of its prevalence in the Southwest of China. To investigate whether PCV4 DNA existed in the Southwest of China, 374 samples were collected from diseased pigs during 2021–2022 and detected by a real-time PCR assay. The results showed that the positive rate of PCV4 was 1.34% (5/374) at sample level, and PCV4 was detected in two of 12 cities, demonstrating that PCV4 could be detected in pig farms in the Southwest of China, but its prevalence was low. Furthermore, one PCV4 strain (SC-GA2022ABTC) was sequenced in this study and shared a high identity (98.1–99.7%) with reference strains at the genome level. Combining genetic evolution analysis with amino acid sequence analysis, three genotypes PCV4a, PCV4b, and PCV4c were temporarily identified, and the SC-GA2022ABTC strain belonged to PCV4c with a specific amino acid pattern (239V for Rep protein, 27N, 28R, and 212M for Cap protein). Phylogenetic tree and amino acid alignment showed that PCV4 had an ancient ancestor with mink circovirus. In conclusion, the present study was the first to report the discovery and the evolutionary analysis of the PCV4 genome in pig herds of the Southwest of China and provide insight into the molecular epidemiology of PCV4.

Background Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play a specific part in the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), except for lncRNA HEIH. Here, we aimed to discover the molecular mechanisms of HEIH in ESCC. Methods We detected the expression level of HEIH and miR‐4458 in ESCC tissues and cells using qRT‐PCR assay. A dual luciferase reporter assay was used to check the relationship between HEIH, miR‐4458 or PBX3. Counting Clock Kit‐8 (CCK‐8) assay and transwell assay were used to detect ESCC cell proliferation and invasion capability. Western blot analysis was used to measure the protein expression level of PBX3. Results HEIH was confirmed to be upregulated in both ESCC tissues and cell lines. Inversely, there was a downregulation of miR‐4458 in ESCC tissues and cell lines. Functionally, we noticed that depletion of HEIH restrained ESCC cell viability, and invasion capability. Moreover, PBX silencing was found to restrain ESCC cell progression, while miR‐4458 or HEIH vector both could alleviate its suppressive effect. Conclusions The present study clarified that HEIH regulated ESCC progression by suppressing miR‐4458 and upregulating PBX3. Our findings suggested that HEIH could be a possible therapeutic target for ESCC treatment.

The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of a vortex electromagnetic wave (VEW) has gained attention as a newly explored information carrier. OAM modes provide vortex azimuth resolution, which is a new degree of freedom (DOF) in radar application. Due to the special characteristics of the vortex azimuth domain, VEW shares compound Doppler information of two-dimensional (2D) speed. This paper proposes a 2D target velocity estimation method for VEW radar. The Doppler effect of VEW is first analyzed. Based on the relativity of tangential speed and OAM mode, a pulse-by-pulse OAM mode-changing strategy is designed. Then, a modified Radon–Fourier transformation (RFT) is proposed to estimate the compound Doppler frequency while range migration is compensated. In addition, decoupling and ambiguity-solving procedures are applied to the compound Doppler frequency estimation to obtain tangential and radial speed estimations separately. According to the simulation analyses, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.

Spiradenocarcinoma, or malignant eccrine spiradenoma (MES), is a rare sweat gland tumor originating from eccrine sweat glands. To the best of our knowledge, only two cases of MES of the external auditory canal have been reported to date. Here, we report a third case of MES located in the external auditory canal.

BackgroundDuring radiotherapy (RT) procedure of breast cancer, portions of the heart and lung will receive some radiation dose, which may result in acute and late toxicities. In the current study, we report the experience of our single institution with organs at risk (OARs)–sparing RT with deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) using an Optical Surface Management System (OSMS) and compare the dosimetric parameters with that of free breathing (FB).Patients and MethodsForty-eight cases diagnosed as early stage left-sided breast cancer scheduled for postoperative RT were enrolled. The OSMS was used to monitor the breathing magnitude and track the real-time respiratory status, which can control a stable lung and heart volume during RT delivery under DIBH. We did the dosimetric analysis of the heart, left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, lungs, and contralateral breast under FB and DIBH plans.ResultsCompared with FB–volumetric-modulated arc therapy (FB-VMAT), DIBH-VMAT resulted in significantly changed volumes to the heart and lungs receiving irradiation dose. The average mean heart dose and average D2%, V5, and V10 showed significant differences between the DIBH and FB techniques. For the LAD coronary artery, we found significantly reduced average mean dose, D2%, and V10 with DIBH. Similar results were also found in the lungs and contralateral breast. The use of flattening-filter–free decreased treatment time compared with the flat beam mode in our VMAT (p < 0.05). For the 48 patients, there were no significant differences in the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical directions between OSMS and cone beam CT.ConclusionsDIBH-VMAT with OSMS is very feasible in daily practice with excellent patient compliance in our single-center experience. Note that OSMS is an effective tool that may allow easier-to-achieve precise positioning and better and shorter position-verify time. Meanwhile, compared with FB, DIBH was characterized by lower doses to OARs, which may reduce the probability of cardiac and pulmonary complications in the future.

Quantitative analysis and prediction of radio attenuation is necessary in order to improve the reliability of satellite-earth communication links and for economically efficient design. For this reason, many countries have made efforts to develop their own rain attenuation prediction models that are suited to their rain environment. In this paper, we present the results of measurements of rain-induced attenuation in vertically polarized signals propagating at 12.25 GHz during certain rain events, which occurred in the rainy wet season of 2001 and 2007 at Yong-in, Korea. The rain attenuation over the link path was measured experimentally and compared with the attenuation obtained using the ITU-R model.
