Abstract Perovskite solar cells have attracted much attention as next-generation solar cells. However, a typical hole-transport material, spiro-OMeTAD, has associated difficulties including tedious synthesis and high cost. To overcome these shortcomings, an easily synthesized and low-cost hole-transport material has been developed: HND-2NOMe. Although HND-2NOMe has high local charge mobility because of the quasi-planar structure, its lower device performance is a weak point, the cause of which has not yet been clarified. Here, we analyse the source of the lower performance by clarifying the internal states from a microscopic viewpoint using electron spin resonance. We observe hole diffusion from perovskite to HND-2NOMe under dark conditions, indicating hole barrier formation at the perovskite/HND-2NOMe interface, leading to lower performance. Although such a barrier is formed, less hole accumulation for the HND-2NOMe-based cells under solar irradiation occurs, which is related to the stable performance. The sources of the lower but stable performance are crucially important for providing guidelines for improving the device performance.

A novel heterotrophic, cold-tolerant bacterium, designated Pseudomonas zhanjiangensis 25A3ET, was isolated from mangrove sediment and demonstrated excellent efficiency in cold wastewater treatment. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences positioned strain 25A3ET within the genus Pseudomonas, showing the highest similarity (98.7%) with Pseudomonas kurunegalensis LMG 32023T. Digital DNA–DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values were below the species delineation thresholds (70% for dDDH, 95% for ANI), indicating that strain 25A3ET represents a novel species. This strain demonstrated high efficiency in removing nitrogen (N) and organic pollutants under low-temperature conditions. Specifically, it achieved 72.9% removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), 70.6% removal of ammoniacal nitrogen (NH4+-N), and 69.1% removal of total nitrogen (TN) after 96 h at 10°C. Genomic analysis identified key genes associated with cold adaptation, nitrogen removal and organic matter degradation. These findings indicate that Pseudomonas zhanjiangensis 25A3ET holds significant potential for application in cold temperature wastewater treatment, offering a promising solution for environmental remediation in regions with low ambient temperatures.

Abstract The educational burden from extracurricular tutoring class has become a pressing social issue in China. This study used data from the China family panel studies (CFPS) in 2014, 2016, and 2018 to empirically analyze the impact of Internet usage on children’s participation in extracurricular tutoring class. There are many factors that influence parents’ decisions to enroll their children in extracurricular tutoring class. These factors include family income status, the level of importance parents place on their children’s education, the marginal returns on educational investment, academic pressure, etc. However, in today’s digitalized society, the widespread use of the internet will also become an important influencing factor in parents’ decisions regarding educational investment. The study finds that, parents by using the Internet significantly increase the probability of enrolling their children in extracurricular tutoring class. Through mechanism regression analysis, it is concluded that internet usage has a positive influence on parents enrolling their children in extracurricular tutoring class by increasing the frequency of social interaction and raising parents’ educational expectations for their children. Based on the empirical results, the following policy suggestions were proposed: 1. Schools should establish a more comprehensive after-school education service system to improve the engagement of students in compulsory education; 2. The government can enhance the accessibility and optimization of educational resources by increasing investment in education, improving the quality of in-school education, and optimizing the management and supervision of extracurricular tutoring class. This ensures that students can access high-quality educational services.

Abstract The genome of faba bean was first published in 2023. To promote future molecular breeding studies, we improved the quality of the faba genome based on high-density genetic maps and the Illumina and Pacbio RNA-seq datasets. Two high-density genetic maps were used to conduct the scaffold ordering and orientation of faba bean, culminating in an increased length (i.e., 14.28 Mbp) of chromosomes and a decrease in the number of scaffolds by 45. In gene model mining and optimisation, the PacBio and Illumina RNA-seq datasets from 37 samples allowed for the identification and correction 121,606 transcripts, and the data facilitated a prediction of 15,640 alternative splicing events, 2,148 lncRNAs, and 1,752 fusion transcripts, thus allowing for a clearer understanding of the gene structures underlying the faba genome. Moreover, a total of 38,850 new genes including 56,188 transcripts were identified compared with the reference genome. Finally, the genetic data of the reference genome was integrated and a comprehensive and complete faba bean transcriptome sequence of 103,267 transcripts derived from 54,753 uni-genes was formed.

Bladder cancer (BC), a highly prevalent malignancy of the urinary system, necessitates further investigation into its progression mechanisms. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation, a prevalent modification in cellular RNA, has been implicated in the tumorigenesis and metastasis of various cancers. In this study, the upregulation of FTO in human BC samples and its association with poor prognosis were demonstrated using immunohistochemistry (IHC) on tissue sections collected from BC patients. The functional role of FTO in promoting the proliferation and metastasis abilities of BC cells was determined using a combination of in vitro and in vivo assays. In vitro, we conducted cell proliferation assays, such as the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, and metastasis assays, including the wound healing assay and transwell invasion assay. In vivo, we employed xenograft models to assess tumor growth and metastasis. Furthermore, our investigation into potential FTO targets in BC cells revealed that FTO modifies PTPN6 mRNA, leading to increased stability and expression of PTPN6, thereby enhancing proliferation and metastasis abilities. In conclusion, our findings indicate that FTO serves as an oncogenic factor in BC, suggesting its potential utility as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for bladder cancer.

BackgroundTestosterone deficiency (TD) is closely associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). We intended to explore the association of Life’s Essential 8 (LE8), the recently updated measurement of cardiovascular health, with the prevalence of TD among US male adults.MethodsThe population-based cross-sectional study selected male adults aged 20 years or older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2016. According to the American Heart Association definitions, the LE8 score was measured on a scale of 0–100, and divided into health behavior and health factor scores, simultaneously. Furthermore, these scores were categorized into low (0–49), moderate (50–79), and high (80–100) classifications. TD is defined as a total testosterone level below 300ng/dL. Correlations were investigated by weighted multivariable logistic regression, and the robustness of the results were verified by subgroup analysis.ResultsA total of 4971 male adults with an average age of 47.46 ± 0.41 years were eligible for the final analyses, of whom 1372 were determined to have TD. The weighted mean LE8 score of the study population was 68.11 ± 0.41. After fully adjusting potential confounders, higher LE8 scores were significantly associated with low risk of TD (odd ratio [OR] for each 10-point increase, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.71–0.88) in a linear dose-response relationship. Similar patterns were also identified in the association of health factor scores with TD (OR for each 10-point increase, 0.74; 95% CI, 0.66–0.83). These results persisted when LE8 and health factor scores was categorized into low, moderate, and high groups. The inversed association of LE8 classifications and TD remained statistically significant among older, obese, and men without CVD.ConclusionsLE8 and its health factor subscales scores were negatively associated with the presence of TD in linear fashions. Promoting adherence to optimal cardiovascular health levels may be advantageous to alleviate the burden of TD.

Incorporating more informal workers into the employee public pension scheme (EPPS) is a crucial component of building a high-quality employment security system in China. This study, based on data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) for the years 2014, 2016, and 2018, empirically analyzes the impact of Internet usage on the participation of informal workers in the EPPS. The research finds that informal workers significantly increase the possibility of participation in the EPPS through the Internet usage. This positive effect remains significant even after a series of robustness tests. Heterogeneity analyses argue that informal workers with higher educational level are more likely to participate in employee public pension scheme through the Internet Usage than informal workers with lower educational level. Mechanism analysis suggests that informal workers significantly raise their government trust through the Internet usage, thereby promoting their participation in the EPPS. Based on the empirical results, the following policy recommendations are proposed: government should further utilize the Internet to streamline online enrollment procedures, reducing the time costs for informal workers to participate in the EPPS. Additionally, the government should actively engage with the public through the Internet to enhance its image and deepen the level of government trust of informal workers, thereby increasing their motivation to participate in the EPPS.

Abstract Background Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a progressive manifestation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that can lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Despite the growing knowledge of NASH and HCC, the association between the two conditions remains to be fully explored. Bioinformatics has emerged as a valuable approach for identifying disease-specific feature genes, enabling advancements in disease prediction, prevention, and personalized treatment strategies. Materials and methods In this study, we utilized CellChat, copy number karyotyping of aneuploid tumors (CopyKAT), consensus Non-negative Matrix factorization (cNMF), Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), Gene set variation analysis (GSVA), Monocle, spatial co-localization, single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), Slingshot, and the Scissor algorithm to analyze the cellular and immune landscape of NASH and HCC. Through the Scissor algorithm, we identified three cell types correlating with disease phenotypic features and subsequently developed a novel clinical prediction model using univariate, LASSO, and multifactor Cox regression. Results Our results revealed that macrophages are a significant pathological factor in the development of NASH and HCC and that the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) signaling pathway plays a crucial role in cellular crosstalk at the molecular level. We deduced three prognostic genes (YBX1, MED8, and KPNA2), demonstrating a strong diagnostic capability in both NASH and HCC. Conclusion These findings shed light on the pathological mechanisms shared between NASH and HCC, providing valuable insights for the development of novel clinical strategies.

Abstract N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent reversible modification in eukaryotic mRNA, and it plays a critical role in tumor progression. The purpose of this study was to investigate the function and regulatory mechanisms of the methyltransferase METTL3 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). METTL3 expression was upregulated and predicted a poor prognosis in patients with advanced RCC. METTL3 facilitated the proliferation, migration, and invasion of RCC cells, depending on its methylase activity. METTL3 positively regulated the expression of PLOD2, and both genes were triggered under prolonged hypoxia. Mechanistically, hypoxia-induced the binding of HIF-1α to the METTL3 promoter, which enhanced its transcriptional activity. METTL3-mediated m6A modifications of PLOD2 mRNA at 3’UTR region, promoting the translation of PLOD2 protein. Furthermore, silencing METTL3 impaired RCC progression in vitro. In vivo, administration of highly potent and selective METTL3 inhibitor STM2457 showed anti-tumor effects, whereas AAV9-mediated re-transduction of PLOD2 largely abolished the above phenomenon in a subcutaneous mouse model. These findings reveal that hypoxia and HIF-driven METTL3 transcription promote RCC progression by increasing PLOD2 expression in an m6A-dependent manner, suggesting that METTL3 may serve as a novel pharmaceutical intervention for RCC.

Abstract Objective Recent studies have shown that the mouth–gut–disc axis may play a key role in the process of disc structural failures (including intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) and endplate change) in the cervical spine and neck pain. However, the potential mechanisms underlying the mouth–gut–disc axis remain elusive. Therefore, we explored whether periodontal disease is associated with disc structural failures in patients with cervical degeneration disorders and clinical outcomes. Methods Adults (aged > 18 years) who met open surgery criteria for cervical spine were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. Participants were allocated into two groups based on periodontal examinations before surgery: no/mild periodontitis group and moderate/severe periodontitis group. Data were evaluated using an independent t test and Pearson’s correlation analysis. Results A total of 108 patients were enrolled, including 68 patients in the no/mild periodontitis group and 40 patients in the moderate/severe periodontitis group. The number of common causes of missing teeth (P = 0.005), plaque index (PLI) (P = 0.003), bleeding index (BI) (P = 0.000), and probing depth (PD) (P = 0.000) significantly differed between the two groups. The incidence rate of endplate change (P = 0.005) was higher in the moderate/severe periodontitis group than in the no/mild periodontitis group. A moderate negative association was found between the neck disability index (NDI) score and periodontal parameters (PLI: r = − 0.337, P = 0.013; BI: r = − 0.426, P = 0.001; PD: r = − 0.346, r = − 0.010). Conclusions This is the first study to provide evidence that severe periodontitis is associated with a higher occurrence rate of disc structural failures and poor clinical outcomes in patients with cervical degenerative disorders.

This article addresses the crucial issues of how asymptomatic individuals and population movements influence the spread of epidemics. Specifically, a discrete-time networked Susceptible-Asymptomatic-Infected-Recovered (SAIR) model that integrates population flow is introduced to investigate the dynamics of epidemic transmission among individuals. In contrast to existing data-driven system identification approaches that identify the network structure or system parameters separately, a joint estimation framework is developed in this study. The joint framework incorporates historical measurements and enables the simultaneous estimation of transmission topology and epidemic factors. The use of the joint estimation scheme reduces the estimation error. The stability of equilibria and convergence behaviors of proposed dynamics are then analyzed. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the proposed model to population movements is evaluated in terms of the basic reproduction number. This article also rigorously investigates the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions via distributively controlling population flow in curbing virus transmission. It is found that the population flow control strategy reduces the number of infections during the epidemic.

Ready-to-eat meat (RTE) products are potential to contaminate bacteria, yeasts and molds during the processing, transport, storage, and sale periods, causing food spoilage and foodborne diseases. As a new non-thermal sterilization technology, atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) is effective and green and has shown great potential in food sterilization and preservation. This paper summarizes the inactivation effects of ACP on microorganisms as well as the factors influencing the antimicrobial efficacy of ACP. The recent progress in the applications of ACP in the sterilization and preservation of RTE meat products is also reviewed in this article. Meanwhile, the effects of ACP treatments on the lipids, proteins, color parameter and sensory quality parameters of RTE meat products are also well discussed. This paper provides references for the potential application of ACP technology in the sterilization and preservation of RTE meat products.

Abstract Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) expression is associated with poor prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, whether HDGF affects gefitinib resistance in NSCLC remains unknown. This study aimed to explore the role of HDGF in gefitinib resistance in NSCLC and to discover the underlying mechanisms. Stable HDGF knockout or overexpression cell lines were generated to perform experiments in vitro and in vivo. HDGF concentrations were determined using an ELISA kit. HDGF overexpression exacerbated the malignant phenotype of NSCLC cells, while HDGF knockdown exerted the opposite effects. Furthermore, PC-9 cells, which were initially gefitinib-sensitive, became resistant to gefitinib treatment after HDGF overexpression, whereas HDGF knockdown enhanced gefitinib sensitivity in H1975 cells, which were initially gefitinib-resistant. Higher levels of HDGF in plasma or tumor tissue also indicated gefitinib resistance. The effects of HDGF on promoting the gefitinib resistance were largely attenuated by MK2206 (Akt inhibitor) or U0126 (ERK inhibitor). Mechanistically, gefitinib treatment provoked HDGF expression and activated the Akt and ERK pathways, which were independent of EGFR phosphorylation. In summary, HDGF contributes to gefitinib resistance by activating the Akt and ERK signaling pathways. The higher HDGF levels may predict poor efficacy for TKI treatment, thus it has the potential to serve as a new target for overcoming tyrosine kinase inhibitor resistance in combating NSCLC.

Abstract Background The incidence of incidental pulmonary embolism (IPE) has greatly increased, but its clinical characteristics and outcomes are still controversial. This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes between cancer patients with IPE and patients with symptomatic pulmonary embolism (SPE). Patients/Methods Clinical data of 180 consecutive patients with cancer complicated with pulmonary embolism admitted to Beijing Cancer Hospital from July 2011 to December 2019 were retrospectively collected and analysed. General characteristics, diagnosis time of pulmonary embolism (PE), location of PE, concurrent deep venous thrombosis, anticoagulant treatment, impact of PE on anti-tumor treatment, recurrent venous thromboembolism, rate of bleeding after anticoagulation therapy, survival and risk factors of IPE were compared with SPE. Results Of 180 patients, 88 (49%) had IPEs and 92 (51%) had SPEs. Patients with IPE and SPE did not differ in age, sex, tumor type, or tumor stage. Median diagnosis times of IPE and SPE after cancer were 108 (45, 432) days and 90 (7, 383) days, respectively. Compared to SPE, IPE tended to be central (44% versus 26%; P

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a significant contributor to acute kidney injury (AKI) and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality rates. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of NAT10 and its ac4C RNA modification in IRI-induced renal injury. Our findings revealed that both the expression level of NAT10 and the RNA ac4C level in the kidneys were elevated in the IRI group compared to the sham group. Functionally, we observed that inhibition of NAT10 activity with Remodelin or the specific knockout of NAT10 in the kidney led to a significant attenuation of IRI-induced renal injury. Furthermore, in vitro experiments demonstrated that NAT10 inhibition and specific knockout of NAT10 in the kidney markedly suppressed global ac4C RNA modification, providing protection against hypoxia/reoxygenation-induced tubular epithelial cell injury and ferroptosis. Mechanistically, our study uncovered that NAT10 promoted ac4C RNA modification of NCOA4 mRNA, thereby enhancing its stability and contributing to IRI-induced ferroptosis in tubular epithelial cells (TECs). These findings underscore the potential of NAT10 and ac4C RNA modification as promising therapeutic targets for the treatment of AKI. Overall, our study sheds light on the critical involvement of NAT10 and ac4C RNA modification in the pathogenesis of IRI-induced renal injury, offering valuable insights for the development of novel AKI treatment strategies.

Abstract Background Bacterial microbiome as a putative trigger of inflammation might indicate the cascade of mouth-gut-disc axis for causing intervertebral disc (IVD) structural failures (such as IVD degeneration and endplate change) processed. However, direct evidence for the mouth-gut-disc axis still unclear. Therefore, it is interesting to explore periodontal inflammation related to IVD structural failures and clinical outcomes. Methods This prospective cohort study enrolled older adults (aged ≥ 75 years) who scheduled to undergo elective open lumbar spine surgery. Demographic, radiological, clinical, and periodontal parameters were recorded. Independent samples t-test and Pearson’s correlation analysis were calculated. Results A total of 141 patients with lumbar degenerative disorders (56 males and 85 females; age 79.73 ± 3.34 years) were divided into edentulous group (19 patients), No/Mild group (84 patients), and Moderate/Severe group (38 patients). The incidence rates of IVD degeneration in each lumbar segmental level based on Pfirrmann grade and endplate change in the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) low back pain (LBP) and leg pain of patients at preoperative in dentate group was significantly higher compared with edentulous group, especially the comparisons between Moderate/Severe and edentulous groups. There were no significant differences in the range of motion, lumbar lordosis, pelvic incidence, pelvic tilt, sacral slope, and disc height between dentate and edentulous groups. There was a positive association between plaque index (PLI) and pain scores (VAS LBP: r = 0.215, P = 0.030 and VAS leg pain: r = 0.309, P = 0.005), but no significant difference in Oswestry disability index (ODI) score. Conclusion Results show that the severity of periodontitis is associated with higher incidence rates of IVD degeneration and endplate change and clinical outcomes in older adults with lumbar degenerative disorders. Furthermore, the discovery of these relationships unveils a novel mechanism through which the alterations in oral microbiome composition potentially promote IVD degeneration and pain.

The flapping-wing ornithopter is an aircraft that imitates the flight of birds in nature. It has significant potential and value in various fields such as surveying, search and rescue, military reconnaissance, and unmanned warfare, due to its biomimetic stealth and high efficiency in low Reynolds number flight. However, the cruising speed of current flapping-wing ornithopters is generally lower than that of birds of the same size, which seriously affects biomimicry, mission capability, and wind resistance. Increasing the cruising speed can make the aircraft fly more like a bird, improve the efficiency of reconnaissance missions and wind resistance per unit time, and has important research significance. However, the methods to increase the cruising speed of flapping-wing ornithopters are currently lacking. Firstly, this paper presents improvements to the propulsion system based on the team’s “Dove” aircraft to meet the speed requirements. The actual flapping frequency and rocking arm end torque of the “Dove” aircraft under different voltages are tested. To select and match the motor and gearbox in the propulsion system, a method for matching and selection among the motor, gearbox, and load is proposed. Finally, wind tunnel experiments and flight validations are conducted on the improved flight prototype. The wind tunnel experiments show that the increase in flapping frequency has a significant impact on thrust. The trimmed states at different speeds are obtained. The flight validation demonstrates the sustained high-speed flight capability of the aircraft. At a flapping frequency of approximately 15 Hz, the average flight speed of the aircraft is 13.3 m/s within a 15 min duration, which is close to the actual flight speed of pigeons. The duration of high-speed flight is tripled compared to the initial duration. The speed improvement successfully enhances the biomimicry and efficiency of reconnaissance missions per unit time for the aircraft.

The results of modern pharmacological studies have shown that Coicis semen has multiple pharmacological effects such as anti-tumor, improving immunity, lowering blood sugar, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, and regulating blood lipid metabolism. By consulting relevant literature in recent years, this paper reviewed the extraction process of Coicis semen nutritional components, including fatty acids, lipids, polysaccharides, flavonoids, Coicis semen oil. Modern pharmacological effects such as anti-tumor, improving immunity, lowering blood glucose and regulating blood lipid metabolism were also included. The development directions of Coicis semen for hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, osteoporosis and other related functional foods were summarized. This review could provide reference for further development and application of Coicis semen.

Objective To investigate the morphological characteristics of the chin in patients with congenital absence of lower incisors with different vertical facial types， and to explore their differences with the normal population. Methods 120 female adolescent patients were stratified randomly selected as the study subjects. Among them， 60 cases of congenital loss of a lower incisor were assigned into the experimental group， and 60 cases without tooth loss were allocated into the control group. There were 20 cases of high angle， average angle and low angle in each group. All patients took lateral cephalometric films. The measurement results were statistically analyzed. Results The height and curvature of the chin from large to small were high angle group， average angle group and low angle group （all P < 0.05）. The maximum chin height in the experimental group was （21.20±1.32） mm， the minimum chin height was （16.91±1.57） mm. In the control group， the maximum chin height was （23.96±1.04） mm， and the minimum chin height was （19.70±1.66） mm. The chin angle in the high angle group was smaller than that in the low angle group（both P < 0.05）. In the experimental group， the ANB， Y-axis and chin curvature were significantly larger （all P < 0.05）， while SNB， chin height， chin thickness， minimum chin thickness， posterior chin thickness and chin angle were significantly smaller compared with those in the control group （all P < 0.05）. Conclusions The chin morphology is different among patients with different vertical facial types. The chin morphology of patients with congenital loss of the lower incisors is different from that of normal population. In orthodontic treatment， extensive attention should be paid to the chin morphology of patients with congenital loss of lower incisors， thereby designing a reasonable treatment regimen.

Petrosal vein (PV) is an important drainage vein of posterior cranial fossa, needs to be properly preserved during cerebellopontine angle (CPA) surgery. Whether it is safe to sacrifice PV is a topic of intense debate and worth discussing. On one hand, some systematic studies concluded that the complications after obliteration of PV were negligible, and on the other hand, fatal complications caused by the sacrifice of PV were reported intermittently. This paper intends to review the anatomy of PV, the complications after sacrifice of PV, the evidence and opinions on the safety of PV sacrifice, and preoperative or intraoperative methods for evaluating the safety of PV sacrifice, so as to refine the surgical management of PV by neurosurgeons.

With the goal of clinical teaching of specialist nurses, the three-level teaching management structure of nursing department - head of clinical teaching base of dentistry - teaching teacher of teaching group was built in the teaching process, the three-level teaching plan of training syllabus requirements-student needs-base characteristics was formulated, the "one-to-one" mentorship system was implemented for the whole process of off-duty clinical teaching. The plan was implemented by adopting diversified teaching methods such as centralized theoretical lectures, surgical observation, situational simulation teaching and specialized operation simulation exercises, to provide clinical teaching for dental nurses and help students improve their professional skills and comprehensive quality. Clinical operation skills assessment and small lecture assessment were conducted according to the requirements of the Chinese Nursing Association, so that the trainees can better master dental-related knowledge and improve their comprehensive abilities in clinical teaching and scientific research at the same time. Bird wings have split primary feathers that extend out from the wing surface. This structure is called the wingtip slot, which is recognized as a product of bird evolution to improve flight performance. In this paper, numerical simulations based on RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes) equations are conducted to examine and understand the influence of wingtip slots on six wings at Re = 100 000. The overlapping grid method, driven by an in-house UDF (User Defined Function), is used to model the motion of the bionic slotted wings. The motion law of the winglets is improved based on the law extracted from a level-flying bald eagle. Then the aerodynamic force, pressure distribution, vorticity contours, wake stream, and other flow structures of the slotted wings with different layouts were compared and analyzed. The results show a significant increase in aerodynamic force when the slotted wingtips are employed. The maximum lift-to-drag ratio is also improved in our designed wing model with a non-planar wingtip by a maximum of 34% from the base wing. Each winglet works as a single wing due to the existence of slots, with a chordwise pressure distribution similar to that of the main wing. The vortex structures of slotted wings show expressive changes in the tip vortex as compared with the base wing. Additionally, an innovative bionic slotted wing is proposed with a dynamic wingtip that forms varying gaps between winglets. Due to the collective mechanism of aerodynamic interaction among multiple winglets for the innovative wing, it acquires the optimal time-averaged force during a flapping period. As expected, the slotted wingtip reduces the main wingtip vortex intensity and creates weaker vortices. The non-planarity and relative motion of the wingtip strengthen its weakening effect on the wingtip vortex and wake.

BackgroundAs the most common gastrointestinal malignancy worldwide, liver metastases occur in half colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Early detection can help treat them early and reduce mortality in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM). Finding useful biomarkers for CRLM is thus essential.MethodsThe TCGA and GEO databases were used to download the expression profiles and clinical data of the patients. Differential analysis screened for genes associated with CRLM, and univariate Cox regression analysis identified genes associated with prognosis. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method further preferred genes to construct a prognostic signature. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used to show patients’ overall survival (OS). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed the accuracy of the model. Risk scores and clinical characteristics of patients were included in multivariate Cox regression analysis to identify independent risk factors, and a nomogram was constructed. The proportion of immune cells and infiltration were assessed using the ‘CIBERSORT’ package and the ‘ESTIMATE’ package.ResultsWe constructed a signature consisting of seven CRLM-associated genes, and signature-based risk scores have great potential in estimating the prognosis of CRC patients. Moreover, the poor response to immunotherapy in high-risk patients might contribute to the poor prognosis of individuals. Furthermore, we found that overexpression of Hepcidin antimicrobial peptide (HAMP), the only gene highly expressed in CRC and liver metastatic tissues, promoted CRC development and that it was associated with tumor mutation burden (TMB), DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes, and microsatellite instability (MSI) in various tumors. Finally, we found that in CRC patients, low expression of HAMP also represented a better immunotherapeutic outcome, reflecting the critical role of HAMP in guiding immunotherapy.ConclusionWe identified a prognostic signature containing 7 CRLM-associated genes, and the signature was specified as an independent predictor and a nomogram containing the risk score was built accordingly. In addition, the derived gene HAMP could help guide the exploration of profitable immunotherapeutic strategies.

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is a valuable legume crop and data on its seed-related traits is required for yield and quality improvements. However, basic research on faba bean is lagging compared to that of other major crops. In this study, an F2 faba bean population, including 121 plants derived from the cross WY7×TCX7, was genotyped using the Faba_bean_130 K targeted next-generation sequencing genotyping platform. The data were used to construct the first ultra-dense faba bean genetic map consisting of 12,023 single nucleotide polymorphisms markers covering 1,182.65 cM with an average distance of 0.098 cM. The map consisted of 6 linkage groups, which is consistent with the 6 faba bean chromosome pairs. A total of 65 quantitative trait loci (QTL) for seed-related traits were identified (3 for 100-seed weight, 28 for seed shape, 12 for seed coat color, and 22 for nutritional quality). Furthermore, 333 candidate genes that are likely to participate in the regulation of seed-related traits were also identified. Our research findings can provide a basis for future faba bean marker-assisted breeding and be helpful to further modify and improve the reference genome.

Seed priming, a valuable seed pretreatment method widely employed in agricultural production, counteracts the decline in seed vigor attributed to aging and deterioration. However, PEG priming effectively enhances the vigor of aged soybean seeds. In this study, “TONGDOU13” soybean seeds were subjected to PEG-6000 priming at varying concentrations (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) for three different durations (12 h, 24 h, 36 h). The results showed that a 24 h priming with 30% PEG-6000 significantly enhances the vigor of aged soybean seeds. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the heightened vigor resulting from PEG-6000 priming, we employed transcriptome sequencing and physiological–biochemical tests. Transcriptome sequencing analysis showed the significant down-regulation of carbon metabolism-related genes post PEG-6000 priming, which facilitated energetically efficient germination. Five peroxidase-encoding genes displayed significant up-regulation, promoting the conversion of coumaryl alcohol to hydroxy-phenyl lignin, a probable catalyst for augmented seed vigor. SOD and GST genes were significantly up-regulated, enhancing the scavenging ability of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The concurrent up-regulation of brassinolide (BR) and auxin (IAA) signals countered ABA signaling, thereby promoting aged seed germination. Further investigation included the measurements of antioxidant enzyme activity, hormone levels, and lignin content. Notably, primed aged seeds exhibited enhanced ROS scavenging ability, and increased lignin, BR, and IAA contents. Therefore, PEG priming may improve aged soybean seed vigor through the co-regulation of carbon metabolism, ROS scavenging, hormone signaling, and lignin synthesis. This study will be vital for preserving germplasm resources and reutilizing aged soybean seeds.

BackgroundGiven the key role of integrins in maintaining intestinal homeostasis, anti-integrin biologics in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are being investigated in full swing. However, the unsatisfactory efficacy and safety of current anti-integrin biologics in clinical trials limit their widespread use in clinic. Therefore, it is particularly important to find a target that is highly and specifically expressed in the intestinal epithelium of patients with IBD.MethodsThe function of integrin αvβ6 in IBD and colitis-associated carcinoma (CAC) with the underlying mechanisms has been less studied. In the present study, we detected the level of integrin β6 within inflammation including colitis tissues in human and mouse. To investigate the role of integrin β6 in IBD and CAC, integrin β6 deficient mice were hence generated based on the construction of colitis and CAC model.ResultsWe noted that integrin β6 was significantly upregulated in inflammatory epithelium of patients with IBD. Integrin β6 deletion not only reduced infiltration of pro-inflammatory cytokines, but also attenuated disruption of tight junctions between colonic epithelial cells. Meanwhile, lack of integrin β6 affected macrophage infiltration in mice with colitis. This study further revealed that lack of integrin β6 could inhibit tumorigenesis and tumor progression in CAC model by influencing macrophage polarization, which was also involved in attenuating the degree of intestinal symptoms and inflammatory responses in mice suffering from colitis.ConclusionsThe present research provides a potentially new perspective and option for the treatment of IBD and CAC.

Abstract Background To observe and explore the effect of metformin on the migration and proliferation of bladder cancer T24 and 5637 cells in vitro. Methods Bladder cancer T24 and 5637 cell lines were cultured in vitro, and were divided into group A (blank control group) and group B (metformin group: 5, 10, 15, and 20 mmol/L); both groups were plated on 6-well plates at the same time. Culture in 24-well plates was used for wound healing assays and in 96-well plates for Transwell migration and invasion, and Cell Counting Kit-8 proliferation experiments. We observed and detected the cell migration and proliferation ability of each group at 48 h, and calculated the cell migration area and survival rate. Flow cytometry was used to detect cell apoptosis in the groups. The apoptosis-related proteins, cleaved-caspase 3, cleaved-PARP, and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway member proteins PI3K, phosphorylated (p)-PI3K, AKT, p-AKT, mTOR, and p-mTOR were detected using western blotting. Results After 48 h of treatment with different concentrations of metformin, the cell migration and proliferation capabilities were significantly lower than those in the blank control group. Abstract Ternary polymer solar cells based on a thiazolothiazole-based polymer donor (PTzBT) and a fullerene acceptor (PC61BM) have attracted attention because they show high efficiency and stability by addition of a non-fullerene acceptor (ITIC). However, the performance improvement mechanism is not completely elucidated. Here, we show the stability improvement mechanism due to less charge accumulation in the PTzBT cells with ITIC using operando electron spin resonance from a microscopic viewpoint. We observed two correlations between device performance and number of spins (N spin) under solar irradiation. One correlation is the decrease in short-circuit current and the N spin increase in electrons on PC61BM and holes in PTzBT, where the ITIC addition causes the less these N spin. The other correlation is the increase in open-circuit voltage and the N spin decrease in holes in ZnO. These findings explain the stability improvement mechanism, showing the correlation between less charge accumulation and higher stability, which is valuable for the development of further efficient and stable polymer solar cells.

End-to-end deep neural network (DNN)-based motion planners have shown great potential in high-speed autonomous UAV flight. Yet, most existing methods only employ a single high-capacity DNN, which typically lacks generalization ability and suffers from high sample complexity. We propose a novel event-triggered hierarchical planner (ETHP), which exploits the bi-level optimization nature of the navigation task to achieve both efficient training and improved optimality. Specifically, we learn a depth-image-based end-to-end motion planner in a hierarchical reinforcement learning framework, where the high-level DNN is a reactive collision avoidance rerouter triggered by the clearance distance, and the low-level DNN is a goal-chaser that generates the heading and velocity references in real time. Our training considers the field-of-view constraint and explores the bi-level structural flexibility to promote the spatio–temporal optimality of planning. Moreover, we design simple yet effective rules to collect hindsight experience replay buffers, yielding more high-quality samples and faster convergence. The experiments show that, compared with a single-DNN baseline planner, ETHP significantly improves the success rate and generalizes better to the unseen environment.

An innovative morphing scheme, i.e., dynamical chordwise retracting and stretching, has been proposed for flapping wings. Its aerodynamic effects have been investigated based on a plunging two-dimensional flat wing. The conclusive results suggest that the novel morphing scheme can help to enhance the power utilization efficiency of flapping wings in forward motions. Plunging wings equipped with the novel morphing scheme can generate more thrust for a given power consumption or consume less power for a given thrust generation compared with their non-morphing counterparts. Moreover, the morphing scheme tends to function more positively as the defined morphing amplitude increases. In the currently covered parameter spaces, the largest peak propulsive efficiency improvements induced by the morphing scheme are 12.3% at Re = 15 × 104 and 10.8% at Re = 5 × 104, respectively. Examination of the flow structures around the plunging wings reveals that dynamical chordwise retracting and stretching of the wing can ameliorate the vortex distribution, which could account for the propulsive property changes caused by the morphing scheme. The current study may have yielded an inspiring and prospective scheme for enhancing the propulsive capacity of micro-flapping-wing aerial and underwater robots.

Objective. Recent studies have shown that serine/threonine-protein kinase 24 (STK24) plays an important role in cancer development. However, the significance of STK24 in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remains to be determined. This study is aimed at investigating the significance of STK24 in LUAD. Methods. STK24 was silenced and overexpressed by siRNAs and lentivirus, respectively. Cellular function was assessed by CCK8, colony formation, transwell, apoptosis, and cell cycle. mRNA and protein abundance was checked by qRT-PCR and WB assay, respectively. Luciferase reporter activity was evaluated to examine the regulation of KLF5 on STK24. Various public databases and tools were applied to investigate the immune function and clinical significance of STK24 in LUAD. Results. We found that STK24 was overexpressed in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tissues. High expression of STK24 predicted poor survival of LUAD patients. In vitro, STK24 enhanced the proliferation and colony growth ability of A549 and H1299 cells. STK24 knockdown induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase. Furthermore, Krüppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) activated STK24 in lung cancer cells and tissues. Enhanced lung cancer cell growth and migration triggered by KLF5 could be reversed by silencing of STK24. Finally, the bioinformatics results showed that STK24 may be involved in the regulation of the immunoregulatory process of LUAD. Conclusion. KLF5 upregulation of STK24 contributes to cell proliferation and migration in LUAD. Moreover, STK24 may participate in the immunomodulatory process of LUAD. Targeting KLF5/STK24 axis may be a potential therapeutic strategy for LUAD.

Abstract Background In the present study, we aimed to explore whether common genetic targets or signaling pathways existed in chemical cystitis. Methods Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database was used to search the related gene expression profiles. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by using GEO2R. The DAVID 6.8 Beta and R software were used to perform Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis and Gene Ontology function analysis of DEGs. The protein‐protein interaction network was constructed by STRING 11.0 to reveal the potential gene interactions. The expression of cyclin‐dependent kinase 1 (Cdk1) at the messnger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels was examined by real‐time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blot analysis analysis, respectively. Results The GEO database was searched, and the gene expression profiles of GSE55986 and GSE68539 were downloaded. A total of 262 DEGs and 356 DEGs were identified from GSE55986 and GSE68539, respectively. We found that the p53 signaling pathway might play a key role in the development of chemical cystitis, and Cdk1 acted as a crucial gene in the p53 signaling pathway. Moreover, the experimental results of real‐time PCR and Western blot analysis analysis demonstrated that the expression of Cdk1 at the mRNA and protein levels in cystitis tissues was significantly increased in different animal models of chemical cystitis compared with the control group. Conclusion Cdk1 might be a potential pathogenic genetic target for chemical cystitis.

Thermal discomfort, fuel wastage, health risks, and the death threat of passengers/infants due to the hot soak of car cabin is a hot spot topic all the time. Therefore, the transient analysis method is used to study the distribution of the heat soak temperature in the passenger compartment under different orientation. Besides the research analyzed the effects of four ventilation cases on the driver and rear infant. The results show that both of the driver and infant are subjected to the lowest heat load while the vehicle parked outdoors is facing east at 14:00 and the air temperature around the driver is about 52 °C. The roof ventilation is a effective energy conservation ventilation way for both of driver and infant, as there is the most heat removal efficiency(0.471) and the best cooling effect. The head temperature of driver and infant in roof ventilation is at least 7 °C and 3 °C lower than the other three cases. In addition, the seats ventilation is a better heating way for driver than other ventilation cases, because the air temperature is more even and can be heated to 26.5–29.2 °C for the driver.

Iron catalyzed coupling of β-amino alcohols with allylic alcohols for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrrole derivatives has been developed. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction involves iron catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling and C–C bond cleavage processes.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL) is highly malignant and has a poor prognosis. This study is committed to creating a new prognostic model based on hypoxia related genes. Here, we established a novel tumor hypoxia-related prognostic model consisting of 6 hypoxia-related genes by univariate Cox regression and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm to predict CHOL prognosis and then the risk score for each patient was calculated. The results showed that the patients with high-risk scores had poor prognosis compared with those with low-risk scores, which was verified as an independent predictor by multivariate analysis. The hypoxia-related prognostic model was validated in both TCGA and GEO cohorts and exhibited excellent performance in predicting overall survival in CHOL. The PPI results suggested that hypoxia-related genes involved in the model may play a central role in regulating the hypoxic state. In addition, the presence of IDH1 mutations in the high-risk group was high, and GSEA results showed that some metabolic pathways were upregulated, but immune response processes were generally downregulated. These factors may be potential reasons for the high-risk group with worse prognosis. The analysis of different immune regulation-related processes in the high- and low-risk groups revealed that the expression of genes related to immune checkpoints would show differences between these two groups. We further verified the expression of the oncogene PPFIA4 in the model, and found that compared with normal samples, CHOL patients were generally highly expressed, and the patients with high-expression of PPFIA4 had a poor prognosis. In summary, the present study may provide a valid prognostic model for bile duct cancer to inform better clinical management of patients.

Abstract Background Considering that current peritoneal dialysis has its own shortcomings, In this study, the Seldinger technique was modified to explore the relationship between different catheter placement methods of peritoneal dialysis and short-term postoperative complications. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of 157 patients who received peritoneal dialysis in the Department of Nephrology of our hospital from January 2017 to December 2019. According to different catheter placement methods, the patients were divided into three groups: 111 cases of open surgery technique, 23 cases of Seldinger technique, and 23 cases of modified Seldinger technique (ultrasound-guided Veress needle puncture). The general data, laboratory indexes, and abdominal infection and catheter-related complications within one month postoperatively were collected. Results There were 48 (31.0 %) cases of complications in 157 patients within one month postoperatively, which were mainly catheter-related complications (45 cases, 29.0 %). The incidence of catheter tip peritoneal drift (catheter migration) in the three groups was 27.3 %, 39.1 %, and 9.1 %, respectively, with no significant difference between groups (P = 0.069). Due to the complexity of tailoring the wing flexibility and selecting favorable kinematics, the design of flapping wings is a considerably challenging problem. Therefore, there is an urgent need to investigate methods that can be used to design wings with high energy efficiency. In this study, an optimization model was developed to improve energy efficiency by optimizing wing geometric and kinematic parameters. Then, surrogate optimization was used to solve the design optimization model. Finally, the optimal design parameters and the associated sensitivity were provided. The optimized flapping wing, inspired by hummingbirds, features large geometrical parameters, a moderate amplitude of the flapping angle, and low frequency. With the spanwise twisting deformation considered in the parameterization model, the optimization solver gave an optimized wing with a pitching amplitude of approximately 39 deg at the root and 76 deg at the tip. According to the sensitivity analysis, the length of the wing, flapping frequency, and flapping amplitude are the three critical parameters that determine both force generation and power consumption. The amplitude of the pitching motion at the wing root contributes to lowering power consumption. These results provide some guidance for the optimal design of flapping wings.

Abstract Background Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a clinically common tumor in the urinary system, showing an upward trend of both incidence and mortality. Apolipoprotein C1 (APOC1) has been identified as a vital regulator in tumor progression. This study aims to uncover the biological function of APOC1 in RCC process and the underlying mechanism. Methods Differential levels of APOC1 in RCC samples and normal tissues in a downloaded TCGA profile and clinical samples collected in our center were detected by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). The prognostic value of APOC1 in RCC was assessed by depicting Kaplan–Meier survival curves. After intervening APOC1 level by transfection of sh-APOC1 or oe-APOC1, changes in phenotypes of RCC cells were examined through CCK-8, colony formation, Transwell assay and flow cytometry. Subsequently, protein levels of EMT-related genes influenced by APOC1 were determined by Western blot. The involvement of the Wnt3a signaling in APOC1-regulated malignant process of RCC was then examined through a series of rescue experiments. Finally, a RCC xenograft model was generated in nude mice, aiming to further clarify the in vivo function of APOC1 in RCC process. Results APOC1 was upregulated in RCC samples. Notably, its level was correlated to overall survival of RCC patients, displaying a certain prognostic value. APOC1 was able to stimulate proliferative, migratory and invasive abilities in RCC cells. The Wnt3a signaling was identified to be involved in APOC1-mediated RCC process. Notably, Wnt3a was able to reverse the regulatory effects of APOC1 on RCC cell phenotypes. In vivo knockdown of APOC1 in xenografted nude mice slowed down the growth of RCC. Conclusions APOC1 stimulates the malignant process of RCC via targeting the Wnt3a signaling.

Hypoxia and ischemia cause inflammatory injury and critically participate in the pathogenesis of various diseases in various organs. However, the protective strategies against hypoxic and ischemic insults are very limited in clinical settings up to date. It is of utmost importance to improve our understanding of hypoxic/ischemic (H/I) inflammation and find novel therapies for better prevention/treatment of H/I injury. Recent studies provide strong evidence that the expression of microRNAs (miRNAs), which regulate gene expression and affect H/I inflammation through post-transcriptional mechanisms, are differentially altered in response to H/I stress, while δ-opioid receptors (DOR) play a protective role against H/I insults in different organs, including both H/I-sensitive organs (e.g., brain, kidney, and heart) and H/I-insensitive organs (e.g., liver and muscle). Indeed, many studies have demonstrated the crucial role of the DOR-mediated cyto-protection against H/I injury by several molecular pathways, including NLRP3 inflammasome modulated by miRNAs. In this review, we summarize our recent studies along with those of others worldwide, and compare the effects of DOR on H/I expression of miRNAs in H/I-sensitive and -insensitive organs. The alternation in miRNA expression profiles upon DOR activation and the potential impact on inflammatory injury in different organs under normoxic and hypoxic conditions are discussed at molecular and cellular levels. More in-depth investigations into this field may provide novel clues for new protective strategies against H/I inflammation in different types of organs.

The inseparable internet requirements and the endless stream of cyber-attacks have led to strong demand for trusted IP addresses. However, the existing collaborative DNS security schemes have the defects of low credibility and imperfect incentive mechanism. Enlightened by the Consortium blockchain technology, we propose a novel DNS Cache Resources Trusted Sharing Model, which can improve the credibility of DNS resolution results by establishing a complete chain of trust. Firstly, the consortium blockchain is introduced as the carrier of the peer-to-peer network to reduce the impact of illegal access and complicity tampering on the DNS cache credibility; Secondly, the evaluation index of the node credibility in the DNS cache sharing model is proposed, and the trust-based incentive mechanism is designed to reduce the impact of free-riding behavior and on the trusted performance of the system. The two indicators of node abnormal behavior similarity and roundtrip time between nodes are used to comprehensively evaluate the degree of recommendation of the node and serve as the basis for dynamic scheduling; Finally, we use the stochastic distributed decentralized storage mechanism to solve the problem of low efficiency in the consortium blockchain. The simulation results show that the model has certain advantages in ensuring the credibility of domain name resolution results, and maintains the ideal efficiency while ensuring trust.

In recent years, with the development of hyper-velocity weapon, the research focus of penetration effect has switched gradually from high-velocity to hyper-velocity, with insufficient studies on penetration effect and its internal mechanism. Besides, the study on penetration effect of hyper-velocity weapon depends on the measurement of mechanical signal during penetration of projectile. In this paper, dynamic test of hyper-velocity impact penetration acceleration signal is studied in depth. Firstly, the penetration velocity and acceleration of projectile under the impact load are analyzed, the influence of the movement of the testing unit on the measured acceleration signal is studied, and the factors to be considered when measuring the hyper-velocity impact load are given. Further, this paper designs a measurement circuit and dynamic models of each measurement module, details the influence of dynamic characteristics of power delivery network on test accuracy, and provides a method to obtain dynamic characteristics of power delivery network by virtue of S parameter. Finally, to extract the real penetration overload signal, a superior noise reduction algorithm adopting Modified Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (MEEMD) is proposed, taking dynamic uncertainty and degree of approximation as evaluation indicators, and the measured sensor data is analyzed and processed with the proposed superior noise reduction algorithm. The experiment results show that, this method has a better noise reduction effect, and can be adopted to effectively extract real penetration overload signal. The results have theoretical research and application value to evaluate the reasonableness and effectiveness of measurement method of hyper-velocity penetration overload signal, and seek for a superior processing method for the noisy penetration overload signal.

Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data contains the height of different objects and records the elevation information of ground objects, so it plays an important role in land classification. In recent years, deep learning has been widely used in LiDAR data classification due to its strong ability to extract features. However, deep learning methods usually need sufficient training data to achieve better classification results. In order to solve this problem, a new classification method combined conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN) with residual unit and DropBlock, is proposed here for the classification of LiDAR data, called as RDB-CGAN. CGAN expands the generated samples to training data to improve the classification performance when the training samples are relatively small. Residual unit increases the network depth of the generator to improve its generation capability and utilizes shortcut connection to transfer the input information directly to the output to solve degradation caused by increased network depth. DropBlock improved the generalization of the network by dropping a whole area with spatial information correlation so that the network can learn the remaining features. The experimental results on two different LiDAR datasets show that RDB-CGAN significantly improved the classification performance of LiDAR data compared to several state-of-the-art classification methods.

In this work, through utilizing the mixed-ligand synthesis method, two coordination polymers (CPs) based on Co(II), namely, {[Co(μ-ppda)(μ-pbmeix)]·H2O}n (2) and [Co(μ-opda)(μ-pbmeix)0.5]n (1), have been triumphantly formed from 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (pbmeix), a semi-rigid ligand with Co(II) nitrate salts and distinct carboxylic acid co-ligands (o/ppda = 1,2-/1,4-phenylenediacetate). For treatment of pancreatic cancer, the as-generated compounds’ inhibitory activity against the viability of cancer cell was determined by the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The above compounds’ suppression effect against the cells invasion and migration ability was investigated by the trans-well detection. The real time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) subsequently was employed to test the VEGF signaling pathway activation. Eventually, the cancer cells apoptosis levels after treating with above compound were assessed via detecting the BCL-2 protein expression level. Furthermore, results from molecular docking simulation indicate that complex 1 not only exhibits relatively lower affinity energy, but also forms more binding interactions in comparison to complex 2 when binding to a given target protein. Complex 1 was much superior to complex 2 on treating pancreatic cancer via suppressing the cancer cell invasion, migration and viability ability.

To deepen our understanding of the aerodynamics by which hummingbirds use flexible wings to hover efficiently during flapping flight, a three-dimensional wing model with dynamic morphing was developed according to the morphological and kinematic data of a hovering hummingbird’s wing. Navier-Stokes equations were solved on a dynamically deforming grid to study wing aerodynamics. In numerical simulations, boundary-based smoothing and overset methodologies were used in combination to update the interior nodes of cells in the computational domain, allowing those nodes to accommodate the motion of the flexible wall. This study showed that the leading edge vortex (LEV) attached to the wing was stable during the downstroke but extremely unstable and shed continuously during the upstroke. In the results of the downward stroke, the different vortices separated from the surface and formed a vortex ring. The difference is that the leading edge vortex induced a vortex ring near the root and a smaller and weaker vortex ring near the wingtip during the upstroke. A significant enhancement in aerodynamic forces was found during the downstroke, along with a large number of power consumptions. We found that the asymmetry in the time-averaged vertical force between the two half strokes was 3.5, and the value was higher than that reported earlier. Aerodynamic force coefficients and efficiency matched well with those of another hummingbird wing (the ruby-throated hummingbird). It is worth noting that hummingbirds can maintain a similar wingtip speed by flapping their wings, but different strategies are adapted to hover efficiently due to the differences in size and body weight. The results of this study help to better understand the aerodynamics of the hovering hummingbird.
