Abstract

Acoustically actuated magnetoelectric (ME) antennas based on resonant magnetoelectric coupling within ferromagnetic/piezoelectric ME laminated composites have recently been considered as a promising solution for antenna miniaturization. However, its radiation performance has been theoretically overestimated, since the negative effects on performances due to the magnetization saturation and the nonlinear mechanical behavior that occur from high-field driving have not been paid enough attention. This work presents a unique equivalent-circuit-based numerical method to analyze the near-field resonance radiation performances of ME antennas driven by high electric fields. In this method, we establish an equivalent circuit of the converse magnetoelectric effect for a ME laminated composite to describe the operating principle of acoustically actuated electromagnetic radiation. The equivalent parameters related to resonance characteristics are determined by fitting the circuit model to the data from frequency response measurements of the near-field magnetic flux density. The validity of the model is verified by comparing the theoretical predictions with the experimental results, in the view of the volume fraction dependence of the mechanical resonance-related radiation characteristics of the fabricated ME composites. Based on the proposed model, the influence of driving voltage amplitude on near-field radiation performances is further analyzed by experimental fitting to the model, and the potential limiting factors of ME antennas are discussed according to the driving-amplitude dependence of parameters obtained from the fit. This work provides an effective and engineering-friendly approach to predict the evolution of ME antenna performances, leading a way to improve the performance limit for resonant magnetoelectric coupling. Abstract

Extremely low‐frequency (ELF) electromagnetic (EM) waves adeptly propagate in harsh cross‐medium environments, overcoming rapid decay that hinders high‐frequency counterparts. Traditional antennas, however, encounter challenges concerning size, efficiency, and power. Here, drawing inspiration from nature, we present a groundbreaking piezo‐actuated, bionic flapping‐wing magnetic‐dipole resonator (BFW‐MDR), operating in the electro‐mechano‐magnetic coupling mechanism, designed for efficient ELF EM wave transmission. The unique rigid‐flexible hybrid flapping‐wing structure magnifies rotation angles of anti‐phase magnetic dipoles by tenfold, leading to constructive superposition of emitted magnetic fields. Consequently, the BFW‐MDR exhibits a remarkable quality factor of 288 and an enhanced magnetic field emission of 514 fT at 100 meters with only 6.9 mW power consumption, surpassing traditional coil antennas by three orders of magnitude. The communication rate is doubled by the ASK+PSK modulation method. Its robust performance in cross‐medium communication, even amidst various interferences, underscores its potential as a highly efficient antenna for underwater and underground applications. 21. Piezo‐Turned Magnet Rotation for ELF/SLF Cross‐Medium Communication in Omni‐Direction.

Abstract

Extremely/super low frequency (ELF/SLF) electromagnetic (EM) waves offer efficient propagation in challenging cross‐medium environments. However, conventional coil antennas, when emitting ELF/SLF EM waves, face constraints related to size, radiation efficiency, and high power consumption. To overcome these limitations, a disc‐rod structured piezoelectric rotating resonator is proposed, which can turn a NdFeB permanent magnet disc into rotation with an impressive high‐speed up to 10 000 r min−1 via wobbling motion of the rod tip, effectively generating ELF/SLF magnetic field radiation via rotational oscillation other than common linear and swinging oscillation of the magnetic dipole moments. The piezo‐turned magnetic rotation (PTMR) method leads to a two to five‐fold enhancement in magnetic field emission compared to existing piezo‐actuated acoustic resonant antennas, and a 370 times higher emitting efficiency compared to the traditional coil antenna with a comparable size. In contrast to unidirectional EM wave radiation at their solely resonant frequencies, the PTMR antenna showcases omnidirectional B‐field radiation with continuous tunability in a dual frequency band spanning from 10 to 100 Hz. Moreover, an air–seawater cross‐medium magnetic field communication is successfully demonstrated. 30. Excitation of fundamental shear horizontal wave by using face-shear (d36) piezoelectric ceramics

Abstract

The fundamental shear horizontal (SH0) wave in plate-like structures is extremely useful for non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM) as it is non-dispersive. However, currently the SH0 wave is usually excited by electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT) whose energy conversion efficiency is fairly low. The face-shear (d36) mode piezoelectrics is more promising for SH0 wave excitation but this mode cannot appear in conventional piezoelectric ceramics. Recently, by modifying the symmetry of poled PbZr1-xTixO3 (PZT) ceramics via ferroelastic domain engineering, we realized the face-shear d36 mode in both soft and hard PZT ceramics. In this work, we further improved the face-shear properties of PZT-4 and PZT-5H ceramics via lateral compression under elevated temperature. It was found that when bonded on a 1 mm-thick aluminum plate, the d36 type PZT-4 exhibited better face-shear performance than PZT-5H. We then successfully excite SH0 wave in the aluminum plate using a face-shear PZT-4 square patch and receive the wave using a face-shear PMN-PT patch. The frequency response and directionality of the excited SH0 wave were also investigated. The SH0 wave can be dominate over the Lamb waves (S0 and A0 waves) from 160 kHz to 280 kHz. The wave amplitude reaches its maxima along the two main directions (0{\deg} and 90{\deg}). The amplitude can keep over 80% of the maxima when the deviate angle is less than 30{\deg}, while it vanishes quickly at the 45{\deg} direction. Abstract

Rh-catalyzed hydroaminomethylation has been developed with acid sulfoxantphos and ZSM-5. Linear amines were obtained in good yields (71–95%) with high l/b ratios (up to 132.4) and excellent TON values (up to 23 760).
