The current pandemic, caused by the outbreak of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in December 2019, has led to a global emergency that has significantly impacted economies, healthcare systems and personal wellbeing all around the world. Controlling the rapidly evolving disease requires highly sensitive and specific diagnostics. While real-time RT-PCR is the most commonly used, these can take up to 8 hours, and require significant effort from healthcare professionals. As such, there is a critical need for a quick and automatic diagnostic system. Diagnosis from chest CT images is a promising direction. However, current studies are limited by the lack of sufficient training samples, as acquiring annotated CT images is time-consuming. To this end, we propose a new deep learning algorithm for the automated diagnosis of COVID-19, which only requires a few samples for training. Specifically, we use contrastive learning to train an encoder which can capture expressive feature representations on large and publicly available lung datasets and adopt the prototypical network for classification. We validate the efficacy of the proposed model in comparison with other competing methods on two publicly available and annotated COVID-19 CT datasets. Our results demonstrate the superior performance of our model for the accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 based on chest CT images.

Quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) phase is a two-dimensional bulk ferromagnetic insulator with a nonzero Chern number in presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) but absence of applied magnetic fields. Associated metallic chiral edge states host dissipationless current transport in electronic devices. This intriguing QAH phase has recently been observed in magnetic impurity-doped topological insulators, {\it albeit}, at extremely low temperatures. Based on first-principles density functional calculations, here we predict that layered rhodium oxide K$_{0.5}$RhO$_2$ in noncoplanar chiral antiferromagnetic state is an unconventional three-dimensional QAH insulator with a large band gap and a Neel temperature of a few tens Kelvins. Furthermore, this unconventional QAH phase is revealed to be the exotic quantum topological Hall effect caused by nonzero scalar spin chirality due to the topological spin structure in the system and without the need of net magnetization and SOC., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Using a combination of linear response theory and constrained orbital hybridization approach, we study the mechanism of magnetic exchange interaction of iron-based superconductor. We reproduce the observed highly anisotropic exchange interaction, and our constrain-orbital calculation unambiguously identifies that the anisotropic feature of exchange interaction is not sensitive to the unequal d$_{xz}$/d$_{yz}$ orbital population.

A comprehensive investigation of the electronic and magnetic properties of NaOsO3 has been made using the first principle calculations, in order to understand the importance of Coulomb interaction, spin-orbit coupling and magnetic order in its temperature-induced and magnetic-related metal-insulator transition. It is found that its electronic structure near the Fermi energy is dominated by strongly hybridized Os 5d and O 2p states. Despite of the large strength of spin-orbit coupling, it has only small effect on the electronic and magnetic properties of NaOsO3. On the other hand, the on-site Coulomb repulsion affects the band structure significantly, but, a reasonable U alone cannot open a band gap. Its magnetism is itinerant, and the magnetic configuration plays an important role in determining the electronic structure. Its ground state is of a G-type antiferromagnet, and it is the combined effect of U and magnetic configuration that results in the insulating behavior of NaOsO3., Comment: accepted by PRB

We introduce a method to analyze the effect of hybridization by shifting corresponding atomic levels using external potentials. Based on this approach, we study perovskite ruthenates,\ and unambiguously identify that the covalency between the \textit{A}-site cation and O ion will modify the Ru-O hybridization and change the density of state at Fermi level, consequently affect the magnetic properties significantly. We also study the effect of pressure and reveal that hydrostatic pressure has a small effect on the Ru-O-Ru bond angle of SrRuO$_{3}$, while it will decrease the Ru-O length and increase the band width significantly. Therefore, the magnetic ordering temperature will decrease monotonically with pressure.

Using density functional theory and LDA+U method, we investigate magnetic and electronic structure of Y$_{2}$Ir$_{2}$O$_{7}$ and rare-earth based pyrochlore iridates. Our study reveals that the ground state is a non-collinear magnetic insulating state. Due to strong spin-orbit coupling in Ir 5\textit{d}, there is an unusual correlation between the bands near Fermi level and the magnetization direction, resulting in a possibility of insulator-to-metal transition under applied magnetic field. This makes pyrochlore iridates a good candidate for possible magnetoressitance and magnetooptical applications.

Using a combination of local spin density and Hubbard 1 approximations we study the mechansim of exchange interacion in EuX (X=O, S, Se and Te). We reproduce known experimental results about bulk modulus, critical pressure for structural phase transition, magnetic ordering temperature, spin--wave dispersions as well as momentum-- and tempearuture--dependent band shift. Our numerical results show pressure induced competition between the hybirization enhanced exchange interaction and Kondo--like coupling in EuO. Possible ways to enhance T_{c} are discussed.

The spin-orbit couplings (SOCs) of hydrogenated and fluorinated graphenes are calculated from the first principles method. It is found that the SOC-induced band splittings near their Fermi energies can be significantly enhanced to the order of 10$^{-2}$ eV from the original about 10$^{-6}$ eV of the pure raphene, which is comparable to those found in the diamond and even the archetypal semiconductors. And two different mechanisms are proposed to explain the SOC enhancements in these two systems. The huge SOC enhancements are found to come not only from the sp$^3$ hybridization of carbon atoms, but also from the larger intrinsic SOC of the fluorine atom than the carbon one. Variation of the geometrical and electronic properties of the gold materials in different dimensions has been investigated by $ab$ $initio$ method, taking into account the spin-orbit (SO) interaction. It is found that SO effects in different dimensional Au materials depend greatly on fundamental symmetry and dimensionality. For single walled gold nanotubes (SWGNTs), SO interaction decreases significantly the conducting channel number of achiral SWGNT (4, 0), and leads to spin splitting at Fermi level of chiral SWGNT, indicating that quasi-1D SWGNT can be a good candidate for the spin-electron devices. Furthermore, our results suggest that cage cluster might be synthesizable experimentally by taking gold tube structure as parent material., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Heat conduction of a real quasi-one dimensional material, the finite length carbon nanowire (CNW), inserted into the single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) has been studied by the molecular dynamical (MD) method, in which both of the longitudinal as well as transverse motions of the chain atoms in the SWNT have been permitted. It is found that the thermal conductivity $\kappa $ of the carbon nanowire is very high at room temperature, and diverges more likely with the chain length logarithmically.

With the empirical bond polarizability model, the nonresonant Raman spectra of the chiral and achiral single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under uniaxial and torsional strains have been systematically studied by \textit{ab initio} method. It is found that both the frequencies and the intensities of the low-frequency Raman active modes almost do not change in the deformed nanotubes, while their high-frequency part shifts obviously. Especially, the high-frequency part shifts linearly with the uniaxial tensile strain, and two kinds of different shift slopes are found for any kind of SWCNTs. More interestingly, new Raman peaks are found in the nonresonant Raman spectra under torsional strain, which are explained by a) the symmetry breaking and b) the effect of bond rotation and the anisotropy of the polarizability induced by bond stretching.

Using the method of adiabatic invariants and the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, we have successfully got the excited-state wave functions for a pair of coupled oscillators in the so-called \textit{semiquantum chaos}. Some interesting characteristics in the \textit{Fourier spectra} of the wave functions and its \textit{Correlation Functions} in the regular and chaos states have been found, which offers a new way to distinguish the regular and chaotic states in quantum system.

The radial-breathing-like phonon modes (RBLMs) of the double-walled carbon nanotubes are studied in a simple analytical model, in which the interaction force constants (FCs) can be obtained analytically from the continuous model. The RBLMs frequencies are obtained by solving the dynamical matrix, and their relationship with the tube radii can be obtained analytically, offering a powerful experimental tool for determining precisely the radii of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

The vibrational modes of some single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) intramolecular junctions (IMJs) have been calculated using the newest Brenner reactive empirical bond order (REBO) potential, based upon which their nonresonant Raman spectra have been further calculated using the empirical bond polarizability model. It is found that the Raman peaks induced by pentagon defects lie out of the $G$-band of the SWNTs, so the high-frequency part of the Raman spectra of the SWNT IMJs can be used to determine experimentally their detailed geometrical structures. Also, the intensity of the Raman spectra has a close relation with the number of pentagon defects in the SWNT IMJs. Following the Descartes-Euler Polyhedral Formula (DEPF), the number of heptagon defects in the SWNT IMJs can also be determined. The first-principle calculations are also performed, verifying the results obtained by the REBO potential. The $G$ band width of the SWNT IMJ can reflect the length of its transition region between the pentagon and heptagon rings.

Using the first principles calculations we have studied the vibrational modes and Raman spectra of a (10, 10) single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) bundle under hydrostatic pressure. Detailed analysis shows that the original radial breathing mode (RBM) of the SWNT bundle disappears after the structural phase transition (SPT). And significantly a RBM-like mode appears at about 509 cm^{-1}, which could be considered as a fingerprint of the SPT happened in the SWNT bundle, and further used to determine the microscopic structure of the bundle after the SPT.

The structural, electronic, optical and vibrational properties of the collapsed (10,10) single-walled carbon nanotube bundle under hydrostatic pressure have been studied by the first-principles calculations. Some features are observed in the present study: First, a collapsed structure is found, which is distinct from both of the herringbone and parallel structures obtained previously. Secondly, a pseudo-gap induced by the collapse appears along the symmetry axis \textit{$\Gamma $X}. Thirdly, the relative orientation between the collapsed tubes has an important effect on their electronic, optical and vibrational properties, which provides an efficient experimental method to distinguish unambiguously three different collapsed structures., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

The electronic and transport property of a radially deformed double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) intramolecular junction (IMJ) has been studied by the tight-binding (TB) model combined with the first-principle calculations. The geometrical structures of the DWNT IMJ have been first optimized in energy by the universal force field (UFF) method. It is found that when heavily squashed, the DWNT will become an insulator-coated metallic wire, and the conductance near the Fermi level has been significantly changed by the radial squash. Specially, several resonance conductance peaks appear at some energies in the conduction band of the squashed DWNT IMJ. Finally, we have also investigated the conductance variation due to change of the length of the central semiconductor in the squashed DWNT IMJ. The geometrical and electronic structures of the 4 {\AA} diameter perfect and deformed (5, 3) single-walled gold nanotube (SWGT) have been studied based upon the density-functional theory in the local-density approximation (LDA). The calculated relaxed geometries show clearly significant deviations from those of the ideally rolled triangular gold sheet. It is found that the different strains have different effects on the electronic structures and density of states of the SWGTs. And the small shear strain can reduce the binding energy per gold atom of the deformed SWGT, which is consistent with the experimentally observed result. Three kinds of the response mechanisms to the external pressure have been found for double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) bundle, depending strongly on their average radius and symmetry. The small-diameter DWNT bundle undergoes a small discontinuous volume change, and then deform continuously. The intermediate-diameter DWNT bundle collapses completely after a structure phase transition (SPT). Significantly, two SPTs exist for the larger-diameter DWNT bundle if the outer tube has no $C_{6}$ or $C_{3}$ symmetry. It would be interesting to search for signatures of these different structural transformations by experimentally investigating mechanical, optical and thermal response functions of DWNT bundle., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

Using the first-principles spin density functional approach, we have studied magnetism of a new type of all-carbon nanomaterials, i.e., the carbon nanowires inserted into the single-walled carbon nanotubes. It is found that if the 1D carbon nanowire density is not too higher, the ferromagnetic ground state will be more stable than the antiferromagnetic one, which is caused by weak coupling between the 1D carbon nanowire and the single-walled carbon nanotube. Also, both dimerization of the carbon nanowire and carbon vacancy on the tube-wall are found to enhance the magnetic moment of the composite., Comment: 3 figures

The structural, electronic, and optical properties of 4 A single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) contained inside the zeolite channels have been studied based upon the density-functional theory in the local-density approximation (LDA). Our calculated results indicate that the relaxed geometrical structures for the smallest SWNTs in the zeolite channels are much different from those of the ideal isolated SWNTs, producing a great effect on their physical properties. It is found that all three kinds of 4 A SWNTs can possibly exist inside the Zeolite channels. Especially, as an example, we have also studied the coupling effect between the ALPO_4-5 zeolite and the tube (5,0) inside it, and found that the zeolite has real effects on the electronic structure and optical properties of the inside (5,0) tube., Comment: 9 pages, 6figures

The linear polarizability absorption spectra of the double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) have been calculated by using the tight-binding (TB) model and sum-over-state (SOS) method, supplemented by the first principles CASTEP calculations. It is found that the chiral symmetries of both outer and inner tubes in the DWNTs can always be identified distinctly by the characteristic peaks in the absorption spectra of the DWNTs, no matter what kind of the outer tube is, offering a powerful experimental tool to measure precisely the chiral angle of the inner tube of a DWNT., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

We report that ice nanotubes with odd number of side faces inside carbon nanotubes exhibit spontaneous electric polarization along its axes direction by using molecular dynamics simulations. The mechanism of this nanoscale quasi-one-dimensional ferroelectricity is due to low dimensional confinement and the orientational order of hydrogen bonds. The Co-doped anatase TiO$_{2}$, a recently discovered room-temperature ferromagnetic insulator, has been studied by the first-principles calculations in the pseudo-potential plane-wave formalism within the local-spin-density approximation (LSDA), supplemented by the full-potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. Emphasis is placed on the dependence of its electronic structures and linear optical properties on the Co-doping concentration and oxygen vacancy in the system in order to pursue the origin of its ferromagnetism. In the case of substitutional doping of Co for Ti, our calculated results are well consistent with the experimental data, showing that Co is in its low spin state. Also, it is shown that the oxygen vacancy enhances the ferromagnetism and has larger effect on both the electronic structure and optical properties than the Co-doping concentration only., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

A number of transition-metal (TM) doped group-IV semiconductors, R$_{x}$Y$_{1-x}$ (R=Cr, Mn and Fe; Y=Si, Ge), have been studied by the first principles calculations. The obtained results show that antiferromagnetic (AFM) order is energetically more favored than ferromagnetic (FM) order in Cr-doped Ge and Si with $x$=0.03125 and 0.0625. In 6.25% Fe-doped Ge, FM interaction dominates in all range of the R-R distances while for Fe-doped Ge at 3.125% and Fe-doped Si at both concentrations of 3.125% and 6.25%, only in a short R-R range can the FM states exist. In the Mn-doped case, the RKKY-like mechanism seems to be suitable for the Ge host matrix, while for the Mn-doped Si, the short-range AFM interaction competes with the long-range FM interaction. The different origin of the magnetic orders in these diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) makes the microscopic mechanism of the ferromagnetism in the DMSs more complex and attractive., Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, 6 tables

First-principles calculations with the full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave (FP-LAPW) method have been performed to investigate detailed electronic and linear optical properties of Sr$_{2}$CuO$_{2}$Cl$_{2}$, which is a classical low-dimensional antiferromagnet (AFM) charge transfer ({\it CT}) insulator. Within the local-spin-density approximation (LSDA) plus the on-site Coulomb interaction $U$ (LADA+$U$) added on Cu 3d orbitals, our calculated band gap and spin moments are well consistent with the experimental and other theoretical values. The energy dispersion relation agrees well with the angle resolved photoemission measurements. Its linear optical properties are calculated within the electric-dipole approximation. A series of layered perovskites Sr$_2$$M$O$_4$ ($M$=Ti, V, Cr, and Mn) is studied by $ab $ $initio$ calculations within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and GGA+$U$ schemes. The total energies in different magnetic configurations, including the nonmagnetic, ferromagnetic, the layered antiferromagnetic with alternating ferromagnetic plane and the staggered in-plane antiferromagnetic (AFM-II) order, are calculated. It is found that Sr$_2$TiO$_4$ is always a nonmagnetic band insulator. For Sr$_2$MnO$_4$, both GGA and GGA+$U$ calculations show that the insulating AFM-II state has the lowest total energy among all the considered configurations. For $M$=V and Cr, the GGA is not enough to give out the insulating AFM-II states and including the on-site electron-electron correlation effect $U$ is necessary and efficient. The AFM-II state will have the lowest total energy in both cases when $U$ is larger than a critical value. Further, the optical conductivity spectra are calculated and compared with the experimental measurements to show how well the ground state is described within the GGA or GGA+$U$. The results indicate that $U$ is overestimated in Sr$_2$VO$_4$ and Sr$_2$CrO$_4$. To make up such a deficiency of GGA+$U$, the contributions from proper changes in the ligand field, acting cooperatively with $U$, are discussed and shown to be efficient in Sr$_2$CrO$_4$., Comment: Final version published on Phys. A surprising stability of the tube-like AuN (N = 26-28) has been shown using the scalar relativistic all-electron density functional theory calculations, forming another powerful candidate for the lowest-energy AuN competing with those previously suggested space-filled structures. Unlike the icosahedral "golden" fullerene Au32, these tube-like gold clusters may be closely related to the synthesized single-wall gold nanotubes (SWGNT). The ground-state Au26 has a hollow tube-like structure constructed from the (6, 0) SWGNT, yielding a high-symmetry D6d cage, based upon which the most stable Au27 and Au28 can be obtained by capped one and two atoms, respectively., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, and 1 table

The optical absorptions of different Au32 isomers in the whole frequency range from the far-infrared (FIR) to near-ultraviolet (UV) have been calculated using the relativistic density-functional method in order to identify their geometrical structures. It is found that there exists a distinctive difference between the absorption spectra of the icosahedral cage-like Au32 and its amorphous isomers. The former shows significant absorption peaks in the visible and near-UV range, and a characteristic FIR-active mode at 46 cm-1, making it possible to be distinguished unambiguously from others, which suggests that the optical spectra can thus be used as an efficient experimental tool to detect the "golden fullerene"., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures

Several intramolecular junctions (IMJs) connecting two metallic (11, 8) and (9, 6) carbon nanotubes along their common axis have been realized by using a layer-divided technique to the nanotubes and introducing the topological defects. Atomic structure of each IMJ configuration is optimized with a combination of density-functional theory (DFT) and the universal force field (UFF) method, based upon which a four-orbital tight-binding calculation is made on its electronic properties. Different topological defect structures and their distributions on the IMJ interfaces have been found, showing decisive effects on the localized density of states, while the sigma-pi coupling effect is negligible near Fermi energy (EF). Finally, a new IMJ model has been proposed, which probably reflects a real atomic structure of the M-M IMJ observed in the experiment [Science 291, 97 (2001)]., Comment: 11 pages and 3 figures

The ground-state structures and ferroelectric properties of NbN (N=2-52) have been investigated by a combination of density-functional theory (DFT) in the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and an unbiased global search with the guided simulated annealing. It is found that the electric dipole moment (EDM) exists in the most of NbN and varies considerably with their sizes. And the larger NbN (N>=25) prefer the amorphous packing. Most importantly, our numerical EDM values of NbN (N>=38) exhibit an extraordinary even-odd oscillation, which is well consistent with the experimental observation, showing a close relationship with the geometrical structures of NbN. Finally, an inverse coordination number (ICN) function is proposed to account for the structural relation of the EDM values, especially their even-odd oscillations starting from Nb38., Comment: 11 pages and 4 figures

Quantum interference (QI) in two types of deformed carbon nanotubes (CNTs), i.e., axially stretched and AFM tip-deformed CNTs, has been investigated by the pi-electron only and four-orbital tight-binding (TB) method. It is found that the rapid conductance oscillation (RCO) period is very sensitive to the applied strains, and decreases in an inverse proportion to the deformation degree, which could be used as a powerful experimental tool to detect precisely the deformation degree of the deformed CNTs. Also, the sigma-pi coupling effect is found to be negligible under axially stretched strain, while it works on the transport properties of the tip-deformed CNTs., Comment: 14 pages and 5 figures

Using the relativistic all-electron density-functional calculations on the AuN (N=2-26) in the generalized gradient approximation, combined with the guided simulated annealing, we have found that the two- to three-dimensional structural transition for AuN occurs between N=13 and 15, and the AuN (16<= N <=25) prefer also the pyramid-based bulk fragment structures in addition to the Au20. More importantly, the tubelike structures are found to be the most stable for Au24 and Au26, offering another powerful structure competitor with other isomers, e.g., amorphous, bulk fragment, and gold fullerene. The mechanism to cause these unusual AuN may be attributed to the stronger s-d hybridization and the d-d interaction enhanced by the relativistic effects., Comment: 12 pages and 3 figures

Within a rather general tight-binding framework, we studied the magnetic properties of Ni$_{n}$ clusters with $n=9$ through 60. In addition to usual hopping, exchange, and spin-orbit coupling terms, our Hamiltonian also included orbital correlation and valence orbital shift of surface atoms. We show that orbital moment not only contributes appreciably to the total moment in this range of cluster size, but also dominates the oscillation of total moment with respect to the cluster size. Surface enhancement is found to occur not only for spin but, even stronger, also for orbital moment. The magnitude of this enhancement depends mainly on the coordination deficit of surface atoms, well described by a simple interpolation. For very small clusters ($n \leq 20$), quantum confinement of 4s electrons has drastic effects on 3$d$ electron occupation, and thus greatly influences both spin and orbital magnetic moments. With physically reasonable parameters to account for orbital correlation and surface valence orbital shift, our results are in good quantitative agreement with available experiments, evidencing the construction of a unified theoretical framework for nano-cluster magnetism., Comment: 25 pages and 14 figures

Using the Resonant Valence Bond (RVB) concept and the Schwinger-boson mean field approximation, we investigate a two dimensional anisotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet. We find that increasing the coupling ratio ($\alpha=J_{y}/J_{x}$), a disordered-ordered phase transition appears beyond a critical value ($\alpha_{c}$). When $\alpha>\alpha_{c}$ there exists a finite $T_{N}$ beyond which an ordered-disordered phase transition occurs, while for $\alpha<\alpha_{c}$ there always exists a gap. Also we find that a decoupling temperature $T_{D}$ exists for 1D and 2D isotropic case, when $T$ approaches $T_{D}$ the RVB order parameter decreases rapidly to zero., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 14 references

We report a detailed study of the electronic structure of the MgB$_{2}$ with different lattice constants by using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave(FPLAPW) method. It is found that the lattice parameters have great effect on the $\sigma$ band of Boron. Our results indicate that increasing lattice constant along the {\it c} axis will increase the density of states(DOS) at the Fermi level, making the $\sigma$ band upward shift, and increasing hole number in the $\sigma$ band. So, the superconducting transition temperature T$_{c}$ will be raised correspondingly. Changing the lattice constant along {\it a} axis has an opposite effect to that of along {\it c} axis. Our result is in agreement with experiment. A possible way of searching for higher T$_{c}$ superconductor has been indicated, i.e., making MgB$_{2}$ to have longer {\it c} axis and shorter {\it a, b} axis by doping., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

We propose that a specific spatial configuration of lattice sites that energetically favor {\it 3+} or {\it 4+} Mn ions in moderately doped manganites constitutes approximately a spatially random two-energy-level system. Such an effect results in a mechanism of metal-insulator transitions that appears to be different from both the Anderson transition and the Mott-Hubbard transition.
