TRP channels are important pharmacological targets in physiopathology. TRPV2 plays distinct roles in cardiac and neuromuscular function, immunity, and metabolism, and is associated with pathologies like muscular dystrophy and cancer. However, TRPV2 pharmacology is unspecific and scarce at best. Using in silico similarity-based chemoinformatics we obtained a set of 270 potential hits for TRPV2 categorized into families based on chemical nature and similarity. Docking the compounds on available rat TRPV2 structures allowed the clustering of drug families in specific ligand binding sites. Starting from a probenecid docking pose in the piperlongumine binding site and using a Gaussian accelerated molecular dynamics approach we have assigned a putative probenecid binding site. In parallel, we measured the EC50 of 7 probenecid derivatives on TRPV2 expressed in Pichia pastoris using a novel medium-throughput Ca2+ influx assay in yeast membranes together with an unbiased and unsupervised data analysis method. We found that 4-(piperidine-1-sulfonyl)-benzoic acid had a better EC50 than probenecid, which is one of the most specific TRPV2 agonists to date. Exploring the TRPV2-dependent anti-hypertensive potential in vivo, we found that 4-(piperidine-1-sulfonyl)-benzoic acid shows a sex-biased vasodilator effect producing larger vascular relaxations in female mice. Overall, this study expands the pharmacological toolbox for TRPV2, a widely expressed membrane protein and orphan drug target.

A challenge with universal school-based mental health supports is the limited understanding of potential unintended or unanticipated outcomes. In this review, we examined 47 academic and gray literature sources to address the question, "What are the side effects of universal school-based mental health supports?" We discuss how universal supports can positively impact student mental health, enhance school staff's knowledge and attitudes in addressing mental health topics, and contribute to an improved school climate. However, universal supports can also lead to school staff feeling the strain of resource and time pressures from integrating mental health programming into demanding schedules, voicing frustrations about or exhibiting resistance to mental health supports, and encountering varied, unpredictable outcomes for different student populations across system contexts.

The irruption of Information and Communication Technologies in society in general, and immersive technology, in particular, are playing an important role in the educational field, among other reasons, due to the way they favour the inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs. The main objective was to carry out a systematic review of the scientific production of the last decade (2012-2022) in relation to the use of Augmented and Virtual Reality in students with Special Education Needs. For this, a search was carried out in the Web of Science and Scopus databases following the PRISMA statement. The main results place these technologies as an appropriate intervention resource by expanding educational possibilities and opening learning opportunities in new contexts that significantly support the development of the teaching-learning process of these students. However, this study has demonstrated, at the same time, a significant lack of studies that can cover all Special Education Needs groups in the different educational stages.

The way in which students can identify, regulate and manage their emotions can impact not only on their present positive attitude and increased self-esteem, but also on their subsequent professional performance. In this study, 798 pre-service teachers participated, with a mean age of 24.52 years (±5.48). The instruments used were: "Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale" (WLEIS-S), "Life Orientation Test Revised" (LOT-R) and the "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale" (RSES). The aim was to determine the potential value of optimism and pessimism among the emotional intelligence and self-esteem of pre-service teachers. The results showed that emotional intelligence is related to optimism (R[superscript 2] = 0.352) and moderately to pessimism (R[superscript 2] = 0.148) and self-esteem (R[superscript 2] = 0.135), with a root mean square error of 0.067. The practical consequences showed that emotional intelligence has a strong impact on socioemotional competencies, with optimism versus pessimism acting as mediating variables, which in turn contributes to the self-esteem of future teachers.

The environmental impact of air travel, largely driven by fossil-fuel consumption, remains a critical subject of debate. Addressing this challenge requires immediately adopting sustainable practices to mitigate its environmental footprint. While hydrogen and hybrid-electric propulsion technologies show promise for the future, current efforts focus on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) as a viable near-term solution to reduce aviation emissions while ensuring compatibility with existing aviation infrastructure. This paper examines the environmental impact of air travel, focusing on the emissions associated with conventional fuel and SAF. Using two methodologies, namely the subsonic fuel flow method (SF2) and an improved version of it, the emissions corrected subsonic fuel flow method (EC-SF2), non-CO2 emissions trends are analyzed along a flight trajectory from Stockholm to Bordeaux. The comparison between the two methods underscores the importance of accurate emission modeling, particularly for SAF correction on emission index. The SF2 method reveals that SAF fuels with higher calorific value than conventional fuel increased total HC and CO emissions while decreasing NOx emissions. Conversely, the EC-SF2 method resulted in a more homogeneous emissions reduction trend. Our proposed methodology, which corrects both fuel flow and emission index based on SAF-specific data, could, therefore, offer a more reliable estimation of emissions behavior for SAF. These findings highlight the sensitivity of emissions modeling on environmental assessment.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate meat consumption among adults residing in a city in the countryside of São Paulo, Campinas, according to ethnicity/skin color in two periods: 2008/2009 and 2014/2015, given the scarce literature on the subject. Thus, we sought to evaluate the association between race/color and consumption of meat, a food of great cultural value, based on the hypothesis that this demographic marker is relevant to explain food choices. A cross-sectional population-based study evaluating participants from the Health Survey of the City of Campinas (ISACAMP) was conducted in 2008/2009 and 2014/2015, with 2,354 and 1,606 individuals respectively, aged 20y or older. Food consumption data were collected using the 24-hour food recall method and meats were classified according to animal origin and type of processing. Linear regression models were run to assess the association between meat consumption and sociodemographic variables with a significance level of 5%. Lower total consumption of meat, red meat, beef and fish was found among individuals with self-declared black skin color compared to those with self-declared white skin color. Red meat consumption varied from 109.4g to 157.9g in 2008/2009 and from 102.1g to 125.1g in 2014/2015 between the groups, remaining above the recommendation in both periods. The World Cancer Research Fund recommends consuming between 50 and 71.4 g/day of red meat; thus, these findings reinforce the importance of studies that investigate the impact of ethnicity on food consumption, since racial disparities may be in the origin of the insufficient or excessive consumption of certain types of meat, and understanding the factors associated with the consumption of types of meat is relevant for the adoption of health actions aimed at adequate food intake.

The tropical dry forest (TDF) biome has undergone a diversity of severe disturbances, with resulting transformations and continued pressures making this biome type one of the Earth’s most threatened. Supporting large numbers of native, often endemic species, fragments of TDF serve as important but precarious refugia. There are global efforts to restore this once extensive forest type, but the impact of TDF restoration on biodiversity and ecosystem function is poorly understood. Here, we present results from an analysis of 187 unique studies, published between January 1990 and February 2020, that examined a range of TDF restoration practices. We used a meta-analytical approach to compare survival, growth, and measures of ecosystem function in restored systems and either intact reference baselines or impacted controls. Understanding that social factors can represent over-riding constraints on restoration implementation or success, we also examined human dimensions variables, which were the least evaluated metrics in our review. We found that the survival of native species plantings showed high variability within and across regions and treatments – indicating a broad need for refined restoration prescriptions to better match practice to species and site. Synthesizing a global dataset provides insights needed to increase the success of TDF restoration.

The most relevant intersections in society include the relationship between universities and companies for a projection toward the sustainable employability of future graduates. Among the possible intersections, Service-learning (SL) is an educational proposition that may help university students to develop their personal skills, offering them opportunities to learn and practice civic commitment, improving their sense of social and citizen responsibility, and combining academic and community-service learning in a constructed programme where participants train by working on real needs of the environment to optimize and transform the latter. The development of SL programmes in university departments related to technical areas is posing a challenge to faculty members and students, thus it is important to explore this lack of programmes. The main aim of the present study was to identify SL projects and their topics through a systematic review, following the guidelines of the «Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses» (PRISMA) declaration in the knowledge areas of Architecture, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Languages and Systems, from the year 2008 to the year 2023. This review includes 128 articles, which were analyzed with ATLAS. Ti 22. The categorical system employed in this work emerged from the topics of the programmes identified in the selected articles, which were verified by experts in the mentioned fields of knowledge. The agreed categories were: accessibility, learning, social groups, courses, devices, infrastructure, games, environment, landscaping, heritage, software and web. The most relevant conclusions highlight that most of the articles refer to theoretical aspects of SL, showing a lack of data on the practical development of SL programmes and their impact on employability. The largest number of SL programmes are developed in the areas of Architecture, Computer Science and Software Engineering. Regarding the topics that are addressed in research, most of the articles refer to social groups, software, learning and accessibility.

This paper explores the value of Arts Based Engagement Ethnography (ABEE) when working with people from vulnerable or minoritized communities. ABEE is situated at the juncture of social justice theory, arts-based methods, and critical ethnography. Through a worked example of a study with newcomer youth, we demonstrate how artistic probes, interviews, and group discussions can be combined in a rich multimodal analysis. In addition, we bring attention to aspects of rigour and ethics throughout the analysis. We conclude by reflecting on our process of maintaining rigour, and invite readers into contending with questions of rigour that we encountered.

This study aims to investigate the differences in intra-urban catchments with different characteristics through real-time wastewater monitoring. Monitoring stations were installed in three neighbourhoods of Barcelona to measure flow, total chemical oxygen demand (COD), pH, conductivity, temperature, and bisulfide (HS-) for 1 year. Typical wastewater profiles were obtained for weekdays, weekends, and holidays in the summer and winter seasons. The results reveal differences in waking up times and evening routines, commuting behaviour during weekends and holidays, and water consumption. The pollutant profiles contribute to a better understanding of pollution generation in households and catchment activities. Flows and COD correlate well at all stations, but there are differences in conductivity and HS- at the station level. The article concludes by discussing the operational experience of the monitoring stations. Este artículo se enmarca en el proyecto de innovación docente "Literacy, Gender and Diversity" que promueve la integración de la perspectiva de género en la formación docente en inglés. La investigación previa da cuenta de la escasa presencia de literatura en la enseñanza del inglés y busca promover la construcción de bibliotecas escolares o de aula con una perspectiva de género dentro del concepto de justicia social. Se analiza la relevancia de estas bibliotecas en la educación secundaria y se enfatiza la necesidad de incluir autoras, protagonistas e ilustradoras para promover un modelo educativo sensible a la justicia social y la interseccionalidad. Siguiendo una metodología de investigación cualtitativa, el estudio realizado con estudiantado del Máster de Profesorado de Educación Secundaria de la Universitat de València, incluye entrevistas semi-estructuradas y un cuestionario para mostrar las creencias del futuro profesorado sobre la idoneidad de estos temas en las bibliotecas escolares.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Smoking and unhealthy diet are important risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, contributing to public health crises. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the consumption of natural/minimally processed and ultra-processed foods by Brazilian adults (18–59 years old) according to smoking status. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study of a representative population sample from 26 state capitals and the Federal District (Brazil-2018). METHODS: Data were obtained from Vigitel—Surveillance System for Risk and Protection Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey. Participants were categorized as smokers, ex-smokers, and never smokers. Multinomial logistic regression was used for analyses. RESULTS: Of the 30,800 adults evaluated, 9.4% (95%CI: 8.7-10.2) were smokers and 16.5% (95%CI: 15.8-17.3) were ex-smokers. Smokers were less likely to consume fruit and natural juice, and more likely to consume soda or artificial juice (≥ 5 days/week) than ex-smokers and never smokers. Regarding the daily frequency of consumption, smokers were observed to be less likely to eat fruit more than 1 time/day and more likely to drink ≥ 3 cups/cans of soda/day. Compared to never smokers, smokers had a 42% higher chance of consuming ≥ 3 glasses of natural juice/day. On the day before the interview, fruit, milk, tubers, squash, and okra consumption were lower among smokers than non-smokers. Smokers were more likely to report consuming soft drinks, fruit juice, sauces, ready-made dishes, margarine, and sausages. CONCLUSION: Smokers had lower fruit consumption, and higher consumption of natural juices and ultra-processed foods. We highlight the need for strategies that encourage healthy eating and smoking cessation.

La actitud de los futuros docentes hacia la diversidad y la educación inclusiva se configura como un aspecto clave para la promoción de una escuela inclusiva garante de oportunidades de aprendizaje para todo el alumnado. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron describir las actitudes, sentimientos y preocupaciones hacia la educación inclusiva de los futuros docentes en función del género y el tipo de institución y examinar si existen diferencias significativas en función de las variables sociodemográficas (género y tipo de institución) y el instrumento considerado. Para ello, participaron 632 estudiantes universitarios de 2º curso del Grado de Educación Primaria. Se utilizó un cuestionario ad-hoc para establecer las variables sociodemográficas y la Escala Revisada de Sentimientos, Actitudes y Preocupaciones sobre la Educación Inclusiva. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que, en función del tipo de institución, existen diferencias significativas en torno a las tres variables de análisis. Sin embargo, respecto al sexo, solo se han encontrado diferencias respecto a la variable de sentimientos. Estos resultados, pese a no ser concluyentes, pueden tomarse como referente para diseñar actuaciones formativas que permitan sensibilizar a los futuros docentes y ofrecerle las herramientas necesarias para promover y desarrollar prácticas inclusivas de calidad.

A strong link currently exists between entrepreneurship and use of technology and the Internet, primarily because young people increasingly use digital and online strategies to start and develop entrepreneurial initiatives. The goal of this document analysis is to propose a reference framework for digital rights in youth entrepreneurship based on selection and analysis of 20 documents with legislation, regulations, and reports that focus on guaranteeing safe, responsible digital environments. The study resulted in a framework for connecting digital rights and responsibilities with young entrepreneurs, based on three main points: rights to equality and participation; rights to freedom; and rights to development, creation, and sustainability. In addition to including concepts, practices, and applications in young people's initiatives, the framework is useful for educating young entrepreneurs, guiding future research, and helping public administrations to promote the guarantee of digital rights and responsibilities for all.

(1) Background: The stress experienced by parents with children with developmental disorders who present temporary or permanent needs, makes them experience a series of daily situations that may be linked to coping strategies. Resilient attributes are considered one of the factors that have a decisive influence on the behavior of parents related to raising their children and that affect greater well-being and life satisfaction. The objective of this research is to study the mediating effect of resilient attributes between parental stress and life satisfaction; (2) Methods: In this study, mothers and fathers of boys and girls from 0 to 6 years old with developmental disorders from different Early Childhood Care Centers (CAIT) in the Province of Jaén (Andalusia) [Spain]. Of them, 96 are mothers (78.0%) and 27 are fathers (22.0%), with a mean age of 37.85 years (±5.043). The Parenting Stress Index-Short Form (PSI-SF), Resilience Scale (RS-14), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used. The structural equations model (PLS-SEM) was applied to estimate the proposed theoretical model, from an explanatory-predictive perspective; (3) Results: The results showed the coefficients of determination Parental distress [(Q2 = 0.144); (R2 = 0.329)]; Personal competence [(Q2 = 0.106); (R2 = 0.246)]; Acceptance of self and life [(Q2 = 0.094); (R2 = 0.172)] and Life satisfaction [(Q2 = 0.182); (R2 = 0.563)], in the estimation of the reflective model, indicating a moderate fit; (4) Conclusions: The present investigation is not conclusive; however, the implications of these findings are discussed and suggestions for future research are considered.

RESUMO Produto dos debates realizados por ocasião do XI Seminário Serviço, Pesquisa e Política Pública, sobre o tema “Agricultura Urbana e Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional: o alimento orgânico na alimentação escolar”, este artigo sintetiza a fala de pesquisadores, produtores agrícolas, representantes de instituições da sociedade civil e de órgãos governamentais sobre a produção urbana de alimentos. Tendo como perspectiva a contribuição da agricultura urbana para a qualidade da alimentação, são tratados temas relativos aos alcances e limites para a distribuição destes alimentos por equipamentos públicos e destinação a políticas públicas como a alimentação escolar, à luz de experiências nas cidades de São Paulo e Castro, no Paraná. Considerações sobre o abastecimento de centros urbanos e a importância de ambientes organizacionais e ambientes alimentares tomaram como referencial diretrizes nacionais e internacionais sobre os determinantes sociais da situação de saúde e nutrição na contemporaneidade. São apontadas as dificuldades que marcam a produção da agricultura urbana, e as ações de iniciativas locais que possibilitaram avançar na direção de uma atividade econômica viável e promotora de alimentação saudável e de equidade. O papel das políticas públicas de alimentação, ainda limitado no que se refere à agricultura urbana, é patente para promover o fortalecimento do trabalho de agricultores e gestores públicos engajados nas iniciativas que já apontam o potencial de crescimento desta forma de produzir alimentos.

RESUMO O combate à má alimentação em todas as suas formas, que também se expressa na epidemia da obesidade, é uma das prioridades da Agenda 2030 e dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Este artigo traz elementos sobre insegurança alimentar no Brasil, a partir de temas relativos ao crescimento populacional, mudanças climáticas, biodiversidade e sistemas alimentares tradicionais e regenerativos; trata também do papel dos movimentos sociais para a garantia do Direito Humano à Alimentação Adequada. O Grupo de Pesquisa em Nutrição e Pobreza, o Saúde Planetária Brasil, e o Centro de Inteligência Artificial (C4AI) - Eixo AgriBio, entendem que a retomada organizada e sistêmica das frentes apontadas neste artigo de posicionamento, pode constituir um caminho para a articulação entre pesquisa, serviço e políticas públicas na direção do combate à fome e às demais manifestações da má alimentação, enquanto problema complexo prioritário para a garantia do bem-estar social.
