Bilimsel sorgulama, bilimsel okuryazar birey yetiştirmek için etkili bir stratejidir. Eğitimin her aşamasında kaynak olarak başvurulan ders kitaplarında bilimsel sorgulamanın nasıl sunulduğu bu amaca ulaşmada önemli rol oynar. Bu yüzden çalışmanın amacı, 9. sınıf fizik, kimya ve biyoloji ders kitaplarında yer alan etkinlikleri bilimsel sorgulama açısından değerlendirmektir. Çalışmamızda nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma materyali olarak incelemesi yapılacak olan kaynaklar Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı Talim Terbiye Kurulu Başkanlığı tarafından onaylanan ve 2017-2018 yılı eğitim-öğretim yılında okutulmak üzere genel liseler ve fen liselerindeki 9. sınıflara dağıtılan kitaplardan oluşmaktadır. Çalışmamıza konu olan 6 adet ders kitabındaki etkinlik ve deneyler Yang ve Liu (2016) tarafından geliştirilen sorgulama tabanlı görevler analiz envanterindeki boyutlara ve o boyutların içerdiği 22 alt boyuta göre incelenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yapılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Tüm kitaplar incelendiğinde etkinliklerde en çok yer alan alt boyutlar; “Dersin amacına uygunluk’’ ve “Ana düşünce’’ boyutlarıdır. En az yer alan alt boyutlar; “Tahmin’’ ve “Hipotez kurma’’ boyutlarıdır. Ayrıca genel liseler için hazırlanan fizik ders kitabındaki etkinliklerin diğer branşlara göre daha çok alt boyut içerdiği görülmüştür. Bilimsel okuryazarlık hedefine ulaşmadaki önemi düşünüldüğünde, ders kitaplarındaki etkinliklerin daha planlı hazırlanması gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır., Scientific inquiry is an important instrument for increasing scientific literacy in society. How scientific inquiry is presented in textbooks plays an important role in achieving this goal. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to evaluate the nature and the quality of activities in Turkey’s 9th-grade biology, physics, and chemistry textbooks using a qualitative approach. Six textbooks the Republic of Turkey’s Ministry of National Education approved for ninth graders makes up the sample of this study. The Inquiry-based Tasks Analysis Inventory and its 22 sub-scales were developed by Yang and Liu (2016) and used for this study’s analysis. Content analysis was chosen as an appropriate methodological framework for this study. The findings indicate that the activities contain a limited number of sub-dimensions. When examining all the textbooks together, lesson objectives and core ideas are the most common sub-dimensions in the activities, and the least present sub-dimensions are predicting and formulating a hypothesis. The activities in the physics textbook for general high schools were additionally found to contain more sub-dimensions compared to the other textbooks. As one of the fundamental elements of scientific literacy, the representation of scientific inquiry in science textbooks was found to not be at the desired level.

Bu çalışmada öğrencilerin yapılandırmacı öğrenme ortamları ve öğretmenlerinin kişilerarası davranış modelleri ile ilgili algıları belirlenmiş ve bu değişkenlerin birbirleri ve öğrencilerin akademik başarısı ve fene yönelik tutumları üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklemini İstanbul ilinde bir ortaokulda öğrenim gören 48 yedinci sınıf ve 48 sekizinci sınıf olmak üzere toplam 96 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada nicel araştırma desenlerinden ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçları olarak ‘Öğretmenle Etkileşim Ölçeği’, ‘Yapılandırmacı Öğrenme Ortamı Ölçeği’, ‘Fen ve Teknoloji Tutum Ölçeği’ ve öğrencilerin Fen ve Teknoloji dersi dönem sonu başarı puanları kullanılmıştır. Bulgular öğretmenlerin kişilerarası davranış modellerinin öğrenci tutumları üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisinin olduğunu göstermektedir. Diğer taraftan öğrencilerin yapılandırmacı öğrenme ortamı algılarının bir bütün olarak akademik başarılarını ve tutumlarını olumlu yönde etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Son olarak, katılımcılara göre fen bilgisi öğretmenleri, yardımsever/arkadaş canlısı, anlayışlı ve iyi bir lider olma özelliği taşıyan baskın işbirliğine dayalı kişilerarası davranışlar sergilemektedir.

Aim: This study aimed to provide the effects of 8-weeks core training program applied to 12-14 years old male basketball players on general strength, balance and psychomotor development level. Methods: Thirty voluntary subjects (experimental group n=16; control group n=14) with an understanding toward the aims of this study were selected and Basketball Psychomotor Development Level, Sport Specific Core Muscle and Stabilization, Stabilometer (static balance) and Y Balance (dynamic balance) abilities, before and after Core Training Program, were measured. In the study, groups were assessed by using paired samples T-Test analysis at the levels of Basketball Psychomotor Development Level, Sport Specific Core Muscle Strength and Stabilization, Stabilometer and Y-Balance parameters. Intergroup Tests were assessed by Independent Samples T-test analysis at pre-test and post-test evaluations. Results: As a result, statistically significant difference was found in favor of the experiment group in the core strength training program applied for 8 weeks, in the Sports Specific Core Strength and Stabilization, in the Basketball Psychomotor Development level, in the Stabilometer and in the Y-Balance between the groups. Conclusion: As a result of the measurements, it is suggested that the applied training program has an effect on the development of core strength and core stabilization, static and dynamic balance and basketball psychomotor development level. In order for the development to be sustainable, the core training program should be included in the training routines. As it is applied in the program, it is considered that it would be appropriate to perform it three days a week every other day, and to upgrade the program regularly.

Bu çalışmanın amacı Quantitative Assessment of Socio-Scientific Reasoning (QuASSR) ölçeğinin Türkçeye adaptasyonun sağlanmasıdır. Çalışma bir ortaöğretim kurumunda öğrenim gören 9, 10, 11 ve 12. sınıf öğrencileri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu ölçek dört alt boyut içermektedir. Bunlar karmaşıklık, bakış açısı, sorgulama ve şüpheciliktir. Ölçeğinin adı Türkçeye uyarlanarak Sosyobilimsel Muhakeme Yeteneği Ölçeği olarak düzenlenmiştir. Ölçekte yer alan soruların zorluk düzeyleri ve çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin yetenek düzeylerinin analizinde Rasch Ölçme Modeli kullanılmıştır. Rasch Ölçme Modeli analizi bulgularından elde edilen sonuçlarda ölçeğin tek boyutlu olduğu ve yapı geçerliliğini sağladığı belirlenmiştir. Güvenirliğinin ise yeterli düzeyde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yapılan analiz doğrultusunda, öğrencilerin sosyobilimsel muhakeme yeteneklerinin düşük olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrenciler en düşük beceriyi sorgulama alt boyutunda gösterirken en yüksek beceriyi ise bakış açısı alt boyutunda göstermiştir.

WOS: 000326873900004, PubMed ID: 23756923, Objectives: To investigate if there is a correlation between pre- and post-treatment mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet size deviation width (PDW), and platecrit (PCT) values and to investigate whether we can use them as laboratory parameters to estimate the relapses of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients. Methods: Patients with ITP diagnosed at the Hematology Clinic, School of Medicine, Cumhuriyet University, Sivas, Turkey between January 2005 and December 2011 were evaluated by a retrospective review of our patients' records. Eighty-one patients with ITP were collected. The first relapse was termed as the hospitalization day before second-line therapy, and the second relapse was termed as the hospitalization day before alternate second-line therapy. We provided the following data of ITP patients at diagnosis, before and after first relapses, and before and after second relapses: presenting symptoms, platelet count, MPV, PDW, and PCT values. Results: We obtained significant statistical differences between MPV values after initial treatment and before second-line therapy (first relapse) (p=0.005), between MPV values after splenectomy and before immunosuppressive or immune modulator therapy (second relapse) (p=0.028), and also, between PCT values after splenectomy and before second relapse (p=0.043). Conclusion: Mean platelet volume is gradually increasing before first and second relapses, and again normal values are being obtained after appropriate therapies. We conclude that MPV is a useful parameter as a predictor of relapses.

Objectives: We evaluated the results of short-segment posterior instrumentation of thoracolumbar burst fractures and investigated correlations between radiographic and functional results as well as factors that affected correction losses.Methods: We reviewed 48 patients (30 males, 18 females; mean age 40±14 years; range 18 to 67 years) who underwent short-segment posterior instrumentation with pedicle screws and fusion. The most common involvement was at L1 in 18 patients (37.5%), followed by T12 in 11 patients (22.9%). According to the Frankel grading system, six patients had complete, 14 patients had incomplete neurologic deficits. The Cobb angles were measured, and canal remodeling was assessed by computed tomography. Modified functional results were derived using the Denis pain and work scales. The mean follow-up was 21.7±9.1 months (range 12 to 48 months).Results: The mean correction in the Cobb angle was 18.2±8.6° (p0.05). Objectives: We assessed the results of intramedullary nailing in children who developed redisplacement during cast treatment of both-bone forearm fractures.Methods: Twenty-eight children (19 boys, 9 girls; mean age 10.6 years; range 8 to 15 years) were treated with intramedullary fixation upon failure of initial reduction of both-bone forearm fractures after a mean of four weeks (range 3 to 6 weeks) of cast treatment. Intramedullary fixation was performed following closed (n=20) or open (n=8) reduction using K-wires in the first 10 cases, and titanium elastic nails in 18 cases. Single bone fixation was possible in four (14.3%) cases. For malunion assessment, the amount and location of the maximum radial bow were measured and compared with the normal side and with corresponding extremities of age-matched controls. Functional results were assessed using the Grace-Eversmann criteria. The mean follow-up was 14 months (range 12 to 18 months). Results: Except for a nonunion of the ulna in one patient who underwent single bone fixation, all correction losses could be restored to normal alignment and united within a mean of seven weeks (range 6 to 8 weeks). The amount and location of the maximum radial bow did not differ significantly from those of the normal side and control extremities (p>0.05). Functional results were excellent in 25 patients (89.3%), good in two patients (7.1%), and unacceptable in one patient (3.6%). None of the patients developed infection, neurapraxia, or after removal of the nail, angulation, refracture, or extremity length discrepancy.Conclusion: Intramedullary fixation for correction losses during cast treatment of both-bone forearm fractures is a safe and inexpensive treatment, allowing early mobilization and providing excellent anatomic and functional results., Amaç: Bu çalışmada önkol çift kırığı sonrası uygulanan alçı tedavisi sırasında redüksiyon kaybı görülen çocuk hastalarda intramedüller çivileme sonuçları değerlendirildi.Çalışma planı: Önkol çift kırığı nedeniyle redüksiyonun başarısız olması üzerine 28 çocuk hastaya (19 erkek, 9 kız; ort. yaş 10.6; dağılım 8-15) konservatif tedavinin ortalama dördüncü haftasında (dağılım 3-6 hafta) açık (n=8) veya kapalı (n=20) redüksiyon sonrasında intramedüller çivileme uygulandı. Tespitte ilk 10 hastada K-teli, 18 hastada titanyum elastik çivi kullanıldı. Tek kemik tespiti dört hastada (%14.3) yapılabildi. Kötü kaynama maksimum radial eğimin miktarı ve yerleşimine bakılarak değerlendirildi ve sağlam tarafla ve benzer yaştaki çocuklardan oluşan kontrol grubuyla karşılaştırıldı. İşlevsel sonuçlar Grace ve Eversmann’ın ölçütlerine göre değerlendirildi. Hastalar ortalama 14 ay (dağılım 12-18 ay) izlendi. Sonuçlar: Tek kemik tespiti yapılan bir hastadaki kaynamayan ulna kırığı dışında bütün olgularda normal dizilim sağlanabildi ve ortalama yedi haftada (dağılım 6-8 hafta) kaynama elde edildi. Objectives: We evaluated the efficacy of non-operative treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures.Methods : The study included 26 patients (19 males, 7 females; mean age 36 years; range 18 to 67 years) who underwent conservative treatment for single-level thoracolumbar fractures without posterior column involvement. None of the patients had neurologic deficits and canal encroachment was 50% or less in all fractures. Functional results were evaluated with the use of Denis’ pain and work scales. Relationships were sought between functional results and follow-up time, progression in kyphosis angle, residual kyphosis, and residual canal stenosis, and between radiologic parameters.Results : Functional results were excellent or good in 65.3%, and poor in 7.7%. Three patients required surgery because of pain. Final follow-up evaluations showed a significant progression in the mean Cobb angle (p0.05). Objectives: The effectiveness of open reduction and plate fixation combined with autogenous bone grafting was assessed in the treatment of humeral diaphysis pseudarthrosis.Methods: Twenty-four patients (16 men, 8 women; mean age 44 years; range 28 to 64 years) were operated on for humeral pseudarthrosis. Of these, 16 patients and eight patients had had previous surgical and conservative treatments, respectively. Surgery was performed after a mean of 10.8 months (range 7 to 21 months) following the initial treatments. Preoperatively,none of the patients had infected nonunion, a bone defect greater than 4 cm, and radial nerve injury. Treatment included open reduction and plate fixation combined with autogenous bone grafting. The plate was secured with at least four screws (8 cortices) both proximally and distally, The mean follow-up was 40 months (range 28 to 60 months). The range of motion of the shoulder and elbow was evaluated according to the criteria by Rommens et al. Functional evaluations were made according to the criteria by Stewart and Hundley.Results: Union was achieved in all the patients after a mean of 19 weeks (range 14 to 26 weeks). Shoulder range of motion was excellent in all the patients. Elbow range of motion was excellent in 22 patients and moderate in two patients. Functional results were excellent in 20 patients and good in four patients. Deep infection, nonunion, malunion, implant failure, or permanent nerve injury did not occur in any of the patients. Two patients had transient radial nerve palsy.Conclusion: Treatment with open reduction and plate fixation combined with autogenous bone grafting is a safe and effective option in humeral pseudarthroses, particularly in cases without infection, bony defect, and deformity requiring correction, Amaç: Humerus psödoartrozlarının tedavisinde otojen greftleme ile birlikte uygulanan açık redüksiyon ve plak ile internal tespitin etkinliği değerlendirildi.Çalışma planı: Yirmi dört hasta (16 erkek, 8 kadın; ort. yaş 44; dağılım 28-64) humerus psödoartrozu nedeniyle ameliyat edildi. Ameliyat öncesinde, 16 hasta cerrahi, sekizi de konservatif tedavi görmüştü. Hastalar başlangıç tedavilerini takiben ortalama 10.8 ay (dağılım 7-21 ay) içinde ameliyat edildi. Ameliyat öncesinde hiçbir olguda enfekte kaynamama, 4 cm üzerinde kemik defekti ve radial sinir yaralanması yoktu. Tüm hastalara açık redüksiyon ve psödoartroz hattının proksimalinde ve distalinde en az dörder vida (8’er korteks) ile tutturulan plak tespiti ve otojen greftleme uygulandı. Hastalar ortalama 40 ay (dağılım 28-60 ay) süreyle izlendi. Son kontrollerde hastalar eklem hareket açıklığı açısından Rommens ve ark.nın, fonksiyonel olarak da Stewart ve Hundley’in ölçütlerine göre değerlendirildi.Sonuçlar: Ortalama 19 hafta (dağılım 14-26 hafta) sonunda tüm hastalarda kaynama elde edildi. Omuz hareketleri tüm hastalarda mükemmel; dirsek hareketleri 22 hastada mükemmel, iki hastada orta olarak değerlendirildi. Fonksiyonel olarak 20 hastada mükemmel, dört hastada iyi sonuç elde edildi. Hiçbir hastada derin enfeksiyon, kaynamama, kötü kaynama, implant yetersizliği ve kalıcı sinir hasarı gibi komplikasyonlar görülmedi. İki hastada gelişen radial sinir felci kendiliğinden iyileşti.Çıkarımlar: Özellikle enfekte olmayan, defektsiz ve deformite düzeltmesi gerektirmeyen humerus psödoartrozlarının tedavisinde otojen greftleme ile birlikte uygulanan açık redüksiyon ve plak vida tespiti güvenilir ve etkin bir yöntemdir.

Geothermal fluids are potentially significant sources of technology critical minerals and metals. These fluids can be processed to recover valuable metals such as gold, silver, zinc, and lithium. Interest and demand in lithium (Li) sources have increased in recent years. This is, in part, due to the wide applications of Li and its compounds in high-energy storage Li batteries, and in other technological fields, e.g., nuclear energy systems. Moreover, the costs associated with resource extraction from geothermal fluids are believed to be relatively low, and therefore many possible recovery techniques have been suggested. Lithium is one of the metals that dominate Na-Cl type of geothermal fluids in Turkey with its potential value. This article presents lithium concentrations of selected geothermal waters in Turkey and compares different methods that can be used to recover Li from them. Specifically, three methods will be discussed including direct precipitation as Li salts, separation by membrane filter and captured form through ion exchange resins.
