The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of water-soluble humic extract (EHSA), Hortbio® biofertilizer (HORT) and both compounds combination (EHSA+HORT) on vegetative growth, nutrient absorption and chlorophyll levels in guanandi (Callophyllum brasiliense) seedlings. Isolated and combined additions of EHSA and HORT did not affect seedlings height, number of leaves, leaf and root dry matter and leaf area during early stages of seedling growth. However, HORT and EHSA+HORT treatments increased chlorophyll levels and total N content. Addition of HORT resulted in S, Zn, Mg, Mn and Cu increases in the seedlings leaves, while ESHA application increased K, Mg, S and B. P and Ca levels were not altered by the treatments, however, addition of EHSA and EHSA+HORT reduced significantly the absorption of Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar os efeitos da aplicação de extrato húmico solúvel em água (EHSA), biofertilizante Hortbio® (HORT) e a combinação dos dois produtos sobre o crescimento vegetativo, indicador fisiológico (medida do teor de clorofila) e a capacidade de absorção de nutrientes em mudas de guanandi (Callophyllum brasiliense). A adição isolada ou em conjunto de EHSA e HORT não alterou a altura das mudas, o número de folhas, a matéria seca foliar e radicular e a área radicular e foliar durante a fase inicial de crescimento em viveiro. Entretanto, os teores de clorofila e N total aumentaram significativamente nas mudas que receberam os tratamentos HORT e EHSA+HORT. Além disso, a adição de HORT resultou em maiores teores de S, Zn, B, Mg, Mn e Cu nas plantas, enquanto a aplicação do ESHA aumentou os teores de K, Mg, S e B. Os teores de P e Ca não tiveram seus teores alterados pela aplicação dos tratamentos, mas a adição do EHSA e ESHA+HORT reduziram significativamente a absorção de Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn.

The mangrove sediments are rich in organic matter and humic substances, responsible for important functions such as reducing the toxicity of heavy metals, nutrient stabilization, serving as drain to atmospheric carbon and increasing the plant growth. In this study, we observed the effect of humic substances, humic acids and fulvic acids isolated from sediments of a mangrove forest, sampled from the Municipal Ecological Station Ilha do Lameirão (EEMIL, located in Vitória, Espírito Santo State, Brazil), on the growth and root acidification of Rizophora mangle and Laguncularia racemosa seedlings. For this, R. mangle and L. racemosa propagules were transferred to pots and then treated with different humic materials. The evaluation in root architecture change was performed by analyzing the main root axis length, lateral root length, density of lateral roots, fresh and dry mass weight of roots and estimated H+-ATPase activity by specific root acidification measurement. The results indicate that all humic materials extracted from mangrove organic matter were able to modify the root architecture systems of the studied plants. In addition to inducing an increase in the number of lateral roots and root branching, it also stimulated specific root acidification when compared to control groups. There is a good potential in developing technologies for the production of seedlings of mangrove plant species treated with biostimulants based in humic materials isolated from the mangrove ecosystem itself.Keywords: Humic substances, humic acids, fulvic acids, mangrove

The crops conilon coffee in Espírito Santo concentrate on soils with high redox potential, in these soils predominates the Fe in reduced form and more soluble (Fe2+) which can cause interferences in development and productivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of iron concentration in plant tissues and the productivity of crops conilon coffee (Coffea canephora) grown in soils of coastal tablelands in the State of Espírito Santo. The study was conducted in three producing properties conilon coffee located in the South of the Espírito Santo, three areas in lowland environment and three areas in the hillside environment, to compare the influence of local. We evaluated the physical and chemical composition of the soil, the concentration of nutrients in roots, stems, leaves, grains and fruit peel and productivity in two seasons. The results evidenced that the concentration of iron in all evaluated organs was higher in lowland crops and that productivity has been significantly higher in the hillside fields. We conclude that the high concentration of iron in the soil and plant organs evaluated the lowland crops may be negatively influence the productivity of crops. Os plantios de café conilon no estado do Espírito Santo concentram-se em solos com elevado potencial de oxirredução, nestes solos predomina o Fe na forma reduzida e mais solúvel (Fe2+), o que pode causar interferências no desenvolvimento e na produtividade. Objetivou-se, neste estudo, avaliar os impactos da concentração de ferro nos tecidos vegetais e a produtividade de lavouras de café conilon (Coffea canephora), cultivadas nos solos dos tabuleiros costeiros do Estado. O estudo foi realizado em três propriedades produtoras de café conilon, localizadas no Sul do Espírito Santo, sendo três áreas em ambiente de baixada e outras três em ambiente de encosta, para comparar a influência dos locais. Foram avaliadas a composição físico-química dos solos, a concentração dos nutrientes em raízes, caules, folhas, grãos e casca das plantas e a produtividade em duas safras. Os resultados sugerem que a concentração de ferro, em todos os órgãos avaliados, foi maior nas lavouras de baixada e que a produtividade foi significativamente maior nas lavouras de encosta. Conclui-se que a alta concentração de ferro no solo e nos órgãos vegetais avaliados das lavouras de baixada pode influenciar negativamente na produtividade das lavouras.

ResumoA Cattleya warneri var. concolor(Orchidaceae) é uma planta epífita ameaçada de extinção com potencial econômico ornamental. Este trabalho objetivou estudar o crescimentoin vitro de plântulas da espécie supracitada em diferentes doses de ácidos húmicos (AH) isolados de vermicomposto. A avaliação do crescimento promovido pelos AH foi realizada por meio das variáveis número de folhas e raízes, massas frescas e secas das folhas e de raízes e de estimativas da atividade da enzima H+-ATPase. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que o material húmico obtido foi capaz de incrementar o crescimento da planta estudada e promover estímulos associados à atividade da referida enzima. Estabelece-se assim, um bioestimulante eficiente visando a produção de mudas deCattleya warneri var. concolor. AbstractCattleya warneri var. concolor(Orchidaceae) is an endangered epiphyte plant with ornamental economic potential. In this research, we have studied in vitro growth of C. warneri's seedlings at different doses of humic acids isolated from vermicompost. The evaluation on growth promoted by AH was performed using variables number of leaves and roots, fresh and dry weight of leaves and roots and estimates of the H+-ATPase enzyme activity. The results indicated that the humic material obtained was able to increase the growth of the studied plant and promoting stimuli associated with the said enzyme activity. It is thus established, an efficient biostimulant aimed at producing Cattleya warneri var. concolor seedlings.

Peats are an important reserve of humified carbon in terrestrial ecosystems. The interest in the use of humic substances as plant growth promoters is continuously increasing. The objective of this study was to evaluate the bioactivity of alkaline soluble humic substances (HS), humic (HA) and fulvic acids (FA) isolated from peats with different decomposition stages of organic matter (sapric, fibric and hemic) in the Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, state of Minas Gerais. Dose-response curves were established for the number of lateral roots growing from the main plant axis of tomato seedlings. The bioactivity of HA was greatest (highest response in lateral roots at lowest concentration) while FA did not intensify root growth. Both HS and HA stimulated root hair formation. At low concentrations, HS and HA induced root hair formation near the root cap, a typical hormonal imbalance effect in plants. Transgenic tomato with reporter gene DR5::GUS allowed the observation that the auxin-related signalling pathway was involved in root growth promotion by HA. As turfeiras constituem uma reserva importante de C humificado nos ecossistemas terrestres. O interesse pelo uso de substâncias húmicas como agentes promotores do crescimento vegetal vem crescendo continuamente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a bioatividade das substâncias húmicas alcalino solúveis (SH), ácidos húmicos (AH) e fúlvicos (AF) isolados de turfeiras com matéria orgânica em diferentes estádios de decomposição da matéria orgânica (sáprica, hêmica ou fíbrica) localizadas na Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, MG. Foram obtidas curvas de dose-resposta para o número de raízes emergidas do eixo principal em plântulas de tomateiro. Os resultados mostraram que os AH foram mais bioativos (maior indução de raízes laterais com menor dose) enquanto a maioria dos AF não promoveu o crescimento radicular. Tanto SH como AH estimularam o aparecimento de pelos radiculares. Em baixas concentrações, SH e AH induziram o aparecimento de pelos próximos à coifa, típico de plantas com desbalanço hormonal. O uso do tomateiro transgênico com gene repórter DR5::GUS permitiu a observação da indução de rotas de sinalização ligadas à ação das auxinas na promoção do crescimento radicular pelos AH.

A promoção do crescimento vegetal pelos ácidos húmicos tem sido atribuída a ações similares a hormônios, devido à promoção do desenvolvimento e proliferação das raízes, resultando numa absorção mais eficiente de água e nutrientes. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as mudanças na arquitetura radicular em plântulas de milho e no perfil de proteínas da membrana plasmática (MP) promovidas pelo tratamento com ácidos húmicos (AH) isolados de vermicomposto (20mg C L-1). O efeito da adição de ácido cítrico (AC), importante ácido orgânico presente nos exudados radiculares, sobre a bioatividade destes AH também foi investigada. Foram analisados o comprimento da raiz principal, o número de sítios de mitose, o número e comprimento de raízes laterais e a área radicular total. Para a análise do perfil protéico, vesículas da MP de células de raízes foram obtidas por fracionamento celular e as proteínas analisadas por eletroforese uni (1D) e bidimensional (2D). Observou-se que a adição de AC (0,005mM) aos AH estimularam a promoção do crescimento das raízes laterais (126%), da área radicular (58%) e do número de raízes laterais (55%) em relação às plantas controle. A atividade da bomba de H+ da membrana plasmática, analisada como marcador bioquímico de indução do mecanismo do crescimento ácido, também foi significativamente estimulada (374%) pela solução húmica suplementada com AC. O perfil protéico da MP revelou uma supressão da expressão das proteínas nesta membrana, induzida pelo tratamento com AH e, na presença de AC, esse efeito foi ainda mais evidente. Os resultados obtidos corroboram o mecanismo proposto para a bioatividade de AH no qual a ação de ácidos orgânicos exudados pelas plantas, tais como o AC, promove o rompimento da associação supramolecular dessas substâncias, tornando as moléculas bioativas presentes nos agregados húmicos mais acessíveis aos receptores celulares das raízes. The plant growth stimulation by humic acids (HA) has been attributed to a hormone-like effect as promoting the root development and proliferation, resulting in a more efficient water and nutrient absorption. This research aims to investigate how the humic acids isolated from vermicompost (20mg L-1) can modify the root architecture and the plasma membrane (PM) protein patterns in maize roots. It was also analyzed the effect of the citric acid (CA), an organic acid present in root exudates. The changes induced in the corn root system were estimated by measuring the taproot length, the amount of root mitotic sites and lateral roots, and the total root area. Plasma membrane vesicles were purified by cell fractionation and the protein patterns were analyzed by uni (1D) and bidimensional (2D) electrophoresis. The results show that the HA in solution with CA (0.005mM) increases the lateral root growth promotion (126%), the root area (58%), and the number of lateral roots (55%). The activity of the plasma membrane H+ pump, analyzed as a marker of the induction of the acid growth mechanism, was also enhanced (374%) by the humic solution supplemented with CA. Expression of several plasma membrane proteins was inhibited when plants were treated with HA and this effect was more pronounced upon CA supplementation. The obtained results corroborate the proposed mechanism for the HA bioactivity, by which under the action of root-exuded organic acids, such as CA, a disruption of the HA macrostructure is promoted releasing bioactive molecules presented in the humic aggregates, which becomes more accessible to the root cell receptors.
