This paper presents an investigation of the scale effect on the flow around a propeller using the CFD method. The differences in the numerical setup and the results obtained for the characteristics of an open water propeller are described and analysed in this paper. Moreover, the paper also highlight and analyse the scale effect on differences in flow around the propeller, such as the pressure fields in the cross section, the distributions of the skin friction coefficient and limiting streamlines on the propeller blade, the vortices in the wake of the propeller, and the velocity fields. The differences in the flow around the propeller are more clearly seen when it works under heavy loading conditions, an important finding that can support designers in improving propeller performance, investigating cavitations, etc. at the full scale. The reference propeller used in this study is the benchmark propeller PPTC VP 1304.

With the rapid evolution of mobile malware, especially Android malware, machine learning (ML)-based Android malware detection systems have drawn massive attention. Although ML algorithms have recently led to many vital breakthroughs in malware detection, they are still particularly vulnerable to adversarial example (AE) attacks. By applying small random perturbations (e.g. simply modifying different kinds of features from the application’s manifest file), an AE attack can cause the misclassification of legitimate applications. This paper proposes AAGAN, an automated Android malware generation system based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) that can successfully deceive current ML detectors. Our experiment results indicate that AEs generated by our system can flip the prediction of the state-of-the-art detection algorithms in 99% of cases using a real-world dataset. To defend against AE attacks, we improve the robustness of our detection system by alternatively retraining with these newly generated AEs. Surprisingly, after retraining five times, AAGAN can achieve an 89% success rate in bypassing our malware detection system.

Abstract An advisory board meeting was held with experts in Vietnam (Hanoi, August 2022), to review the evidence on invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) epidemiology, clinical management, and meningococcal vaccines to reach a consensus on recommendations for meningococcal vaccination in Vietnam. IMD is a severe disease, with the highest burden in infants and children. IMD presents as meningitis and/or meningococcemia and can progress extremely rapidly. Almost 90% of deaths in children occur within the first 24 h, and disabling sequelae (e.g., limb amputations and neurological damage) occur in up to 20% of survivors. IMD patients are often hospitalized late, due to mild and nonspecific early symptoms and misdiagnosis. Difficulties related to diagnosis and antibiotic misuse mean that the number of reported IMD cases in Vietnam is likely to be underestimated. Serogroup B IMD is predominant in many regions of the world, including Vietnam, where 82% of IMD cases were due to serogroup B (surveillance data from 2012 to 2021). Four component meningococcal B vaccine (4CMenB) is used in many countries (and is part of the pediatric National Immunization Program in 13 countries), with infant vaccination starting from two months of age, and a 2 + 1 dosing schedule. Experts recommend 4CMenB vaccination as soon as possible in Vietnam, starting from two months of age, with a 2 + 1 dosing schedule, and at least completing one dose before 6 months of age.

Abstract Background De novo variations are a primary cause of Rett syndrome and Tubulinopathy, accounting for over 90% of cases. Some studies have identified and documented parental inheritance by mosaicism in these two disorders, albeit with limited data. Methods Clinical characteristics and diagnosis, including genetic tests of members of two families, were obtained from medical reports. Results The first family with Rett syndrome (RTT) presented with two offspring carrying FOXG1 c.460dup. Both affected RTT pregnancies did not show anomalies within the first trimester, preventing prenatal recognition at an early stage. The second family had two of three offspring confirmed with TUBA1A c.172G>A related to Tubulinopathy. Both young couples from the two families harbored none of the variants correlating to their children's conditions. Diagnosis of parental mosaics with higher rates of recurrence was reasonably determined, and genetic counseling played a major role in guiding and managing their subsequent pregnancies. Conclusion In genetic disorders with a high penetration of de novo variants, the risk of having a recurrent baby is an important topic to discuss with affected families. By examining variants that siblings share, clinical diagnosis can offer valuable information about the presence of mosaic inheritance. To effectively manage in the long term, adequate genetic counseling and strategic planning for future pregnancies should be emphasized to mitigate the risk of recurrent offspring.

In this work, cellulose was effectively produced from corn husks by a simple and eco‐friendly method. Major influencing variables for cellulose extraction were examined, and the highest yield of lignin and hemicellulose cleavage was achieved after corn husks were treated in 12.5 wt % NaOH solution at solid/liquid ratio (S/L) of 1:10 g mL−1, 70 °C for 90 min. Subsequent bleaching conducted in 10 wt % H2O2 solution at 80 °C for 90 min produced cellulose with a lightness value (L*) of ∼87, chromaticity indexes a* = −1.85, b* = 2.94 with high purity, 90.86 %, and crystallinity, 64.94 %. Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, and x‐ray diffraction analysis showed a clear transition in morphology, structure modification, and crystallinity consistent with the alteration of the chemical composition from raw material to delignified residue and the bleached one. To synthesize microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), the hydrolysis was investigated in H2SO4 solutions of different concentrations and durations via monitoring particle size distribution by laser diffraction spectroscopy. At the most efficient conditions (30 wt % H2SO4, 18 h, 45 °C, 1:10 S/L ratio), the obtained MCC reached an average particle size of 42.68 µm, crystallinity degree of 61.6 %, and cellulose purity of 92.5 %. Meanwhile, similar parameters with 4 N HCl solution produced MCC with the same purity but higher crystallinity (65.6 %), higher mean size, 67.62 µm, and higher aspect ratio. SEM images showed that 4 N HCl caused less detrimental and erosive action, and less fragmentation on cellulose microfibrils compared to 30 wt % H2SO4. We present experiments on one-way barriers that block reaction fronts in a fully three-dimensional (3D) fluid flow. Fluorescent Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction fronts are imaged with laser-scanning in a laminar, overlapping vortex flow. The barriers are analyzed with a 3D extension to burning invariant manifold (BIM) theory that was previously applied to two-dimensional advection-reaction-diffusion processes. We discover tube and sheet barriers that guide the front evolution. The experimentally determined barriers are explained by BIMs calculated from a model of the flow.
