- Abstract
The aim of the research is to investigate the impact of person-organizational fit on job satisfaction and to identify the mediating role of managers' communication skills in this relationship. In this context, a field study was conducted on employees of three, four, and five-star hotel establishments operating in the province of Nevşehir. A total of 394 surveys were collected using the survey technique and convenient sampling method. The data were analyzed using appropriate analysis programs. The analysis results revealed strong positive relationships between person-organizational fit, job satisfaction, and managers' communication skills. As a result of structural equation modeling, it was found that employees' person-organizational fit has a positive impact on job satisfaction. Likewise, it was determined that employees' person-organizational fit positively influences managers' communication skills. Ultimately, the significance of the mediating effect was examined through bootstrap tests, and it was concluded that the mediating effect of managers' communication skills in the impact of personorganizational fit on job satisfaction is significant. The analysis results were discussed in terms of theoretical and practical contributions, and some recommendations were made for the sector and future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: We evaluated the predictive power of systemic inflammatory parameters, including the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein/albumin ratio, monocyte/eosinophil ratio, and platelet/lymphocyte ratio, for allcause in-hospital mortality in elderly. Materials and Method: This single-center and retrospective study enrolled 46,563 patients aged =65 years who presented to the emergency department due to various complaints from June 2019 to June 2022. We evaluated the demographics, clinical characteristics, laboratory data, and clinical outcomes of the patients. Results: A total of 3,385 hospitalized patients, 1,808 males and 1,577 females, were included in the study. The average age was 76.25±7.35 years. The overall mortality rate was 11.73%. Nonsurvivors had significantly elevated neutrophil/lymphocyte, C-reactive protein/albumin, monocyte/eosinophil, and platelet/lymphocyte ratios compared to survivors (p=0.0001 for all comparisons). Elevated neutrophil/lymphocyte and C-reactive protein/albumin ratios were determined as independent predictors of mortality. A neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio =9.41 had 46.97% sensitivity and 79.99% specificity for predicting mortality. While the positive predictive value was 23.7%, the negative predictive value was 91.9%. Additionally, a C-reactive protein/albumin ratio =13.18 was identified as the cut-off for mortality, with 57.07% sensitivity and 69.91% specificity. Its positive and negative predictive values were 20.1% and 92.5%, respectively. Conclusion: Mean serum neutrophil/lymphocyte and C-reactive protein/albumin ratios on hospital admission were associated with all-cause mortality in hospitalized patients aged =65 years. However, their sensitivity and positive predictive value were relatively low. Nevertheless, negative predictive value for both were significantly high. This implies that these parameters could be used to determine the elderly at a lower risk of mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SEPSIS , *INTENSIVE care patients , *MACHINE learning , *DECISION support systems , *TURKS , *MULTIPLE organ failure - Abstract
Sepsis, which is known as multiple organ failure, is the primary cause of mortality for all patients in intensive care units, regardless of their other illnesses. An intensive care unit decision support system that can predict sepsis in intensive care patients early and warns the doctor has been developed. Since the COVID-19 virus, the variant and number of intensive care patients have increased, so this study has been developed as a precaution to worsen the situation with sepsis. A user-friendly interface and system have been designed to help the physician better monitor the patient's sepsis status. It has been developed in order to meet the need for a decision support system that makes sepsis estimation in accordance with the reference intervals of Turkish patients' values. For a better result of predicting sepsis early, it has been concluded how the data obtained and used in a certain period of time should be analyzed and what methods could be used to estimate higher performance. In the study, machine learning (classification and regression), deep learning algorithms have been used for estimation and the results obtained have been compared. As an impact of research, an intensive care sepsis decision support system, which consists of 122400 hourly data of 300 intensive care patients and estimates with approximately between 88% and 94% successful results in accordance with the reference intervals of Turkish patients, has been developed. Phubbing is a multidimensional disorder in which many addictions intersect due to the nature of smartphones. Therefore, determining the variables that predict the concept of phubbing, the chronic addiction of the digital age, is expected to provide important insights into this behavior. In this regard, the main purpose of the current research is to examine the impact of smartphone addiction, social media addiction, and fear of missing out (FoMO) on phubbing. Data for the study were collected from 208 students at a state university in Turkey. Randomly selected students were reached by the convenience sampling method. The study was conducted in the spring semester of the academic year 2021–2022. The data collection instruments used were a personal information form, the smartphone addiction scale, the social media scale, the FoMO scale, and the Phubbing scale. The obtained data were analyzed using the structural equation model. The research results show that smartphone addiction and social media addiction influence phubbing. On the other hand, FoMO was found to have no influence on phubbing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While there has been an upsurge in transition to online learning taking place mostly in higher education, many countries around the world have had to leave their brick-and-mortar schools all of a sudden and necessarily turn to fully-online education since the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19). Such global emergency cases reacquaint us with the fact that education cannot be taken for granted, making the findings of the current research literature inevitable and ready for immediate use for future policy-making regarding online education. Thus, we planned to conduct the present research synthesis including more recent empirical studies of both a quantitative and qualitative character. We took a multi-complementary approach including a meta-analysis together with a meta-thematic analysis of the effectiveness of online education. In order to further complement and consolidate the results of these two reviews of previous studies, we conducted a mixed-methods research (a pre-experimental study and a qualitative study) designed specifically to understand the responses from the abrupt transition period of online education. This kind of research approach is believed to make more contributions to the relevant literature as it may provide a more in-depth perusal of the impacts of online learning on and its effectiveness in student achievement. - Abstract
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a multidisciplinary disease; therefore, when treating GERD, a large amount of data needs to be monitored and managed. The aim of our study was to develop a novel automation and decision support system for GERD, primarily to automatically determine GERD and its Chicago Classification 3.0 (CC 3.0) phenotypes. However, phenotyping is prone to errors and is not a strategy widely known by physicians, yet it is very important in patient treatment. In our study, the GERD phenotype algorithm was tested on a dataset with 2052 patients and the CC 3.0 algorithm was tested on a dataset with 133 patients. Based on these two algorithms, a system was developed with an artificial intelligence model for distinguishing four phenotypes per patient. When a physician makes a wrong phenotyping decision, the system warns them and provides the correct phenotype. An accuracy of 100% was obtained for both GERD phenotyping and CC 3.0 in these tests. Finally, since the transition to using this developed system in 2017, the annual number of cured patients, around 400 before, has increased to 800. Automatic phenotyping provides convenience in patient care, diagnosis, and treatment management. Thus, the developed system can substantially improve the performance of physicians.

Individuals who constantly travel outside of their place of residence for a certain period of time have to consume the meals offered in food and beverage businesses in the destinations they go to. In this context, the local dishes offered in the visited destinations cause an increase in tourists' interest in that region. This situation enables the local cuisine culture to become widespread as a touristic value. In the literature research, it has been determined that many studies have been carried out in the national literature on the relationship between rural tourism and local food. In order to contribute to the literature, the local dishes of Amasya province were evaluated in our study in the context of rural tourism. In this study, which was conducted to determine the potential of local Amasya dishes in rural tourism; The general scanning model was applied by making use of the documentary scanning technique, one of the qualitative research methods. In addition to a deep-rooted cultural heritage, Amasya also has a rich gastronomic culture, especially with pastries. Amasya cuisine offers a wide variety of options from soups to meat dishes, from pastries to desserts. One of these is the keskek, which forms the basis of many ceremonial dinner gatherings throughout the country, especially wedding ceremonies. Keskek, one of the staple foods of the Central Asian Turks, has gained quite a reputation for its flavor resulting from the ingredients and preparation technique used by the masters in Amasya. In addition, "Stuffed Beans", which is prepared by combining dried broad beans with meat and other ingredients, is another outstanding dish. Toyga çorbası, sakala çarpan, etli çiçek bamya, yanuç and vişneli ekmek are some of the examples that can be given to the local dishes of Amasya. Orchards, forests, natural lakes, plateaus, etc. in the rural areas of Amasya province. It is richness that will help possible rural tourism activities to be carried out in Amasya. When these riches are managed well, the unique dining experience that every tourist seeks can be experienced in a unique way in natural places.

As the world rapidly changes and develops, students are finding it increasingly difficult to achieve their goals. In this era where traditional education methods are being scrutinized for their impact on academic success, educators are exploring various teaching techniques to improve academic outcomes. The Six Thinking Hats Technique (STHT) is one of the teaching techniques. The study aims to examine the effects of STHT applications on the academic achievement of students through mixed-meta method. Meta-analysis is used for this purpose, which provides the analysis of quantitative data, and meta-thematic analysis, which provides the analysis of qualitative data, within the framework of the mixedmeta method. Quantitative data within the scope of meta-analysis were analyzed with the CMA and MetaWin programs. As a result of the analysis, the effect size was found to be g=1.071, which means a large degree of effect. This finding indicates that STHT applications have a significant positive effect on academic achievement. In the meta-thematic analysis process, the data were analyzed through the Maxqda program, and various codes were created in the context of the positive aspects of STHT. Several codes were identified, including the improvement of expressive skills, the acquisition of speaking skills while following social etiquette, the ability to articulate emotions, thoughts, dreams, impressions, and experiences, the opportunity to utilize debate and other discussion techniques, and the enhancement of communication abilities.

General Earth and Planetary Sciences ,General Environmental Science - Abstract
The ubiquitous nature of smartphones has led to the emergence of addictive behaviors and new psychosocial disorders, almost overtaking the merits they provide. Within the relevant literature, the misuse of smartphones is purported to turn into a strong addiction, thus culminating in hopelessness and a reduction in life satisfaction. Another widespread behavioral disorder related to the misuse of smartphones is cyberloafing, which is reported to cause labor loss at the workplace and undesired consequences in learning settings. While research on the effects of inappropriate use of social media and mobile devices is ever-evolving, with a plethora of studies published every year, the need for more studies on the correlations of negative consequences related to the misuse of smartphones is still warranted. To this end, the present research attempted to identify undergraduate students' levels of smartphone addiction, life satisfaction, hopelessness, cyberloafing, and academic achievement. The study further aimed to scrutinize the correlations between these variables with structural equation modeling. The sample of this casual-correlational study consists of 261 students receiving education at a state university in the southeastern part of Turkey. The results of the study suggest that higher cyberloafing leads to higher hopelessness but not to lower life satisfaction, and higher hopelessness leads to lower life satisfaction. While higher smartphone addiction leads to lower achievement and higher cyberloafing, it does not lead to higher hopelessness and lower life satisfaction. The findings of the study provide insights into understanding the behavioral impacts of smartphone addiction.

General Medicine - Abstract
The mixed-meta analysis study aims to examine the effects of the layered curriculum on students based on the studies conducted between 2006 and 2021. The statistical data gathered from a total of five studies is indexed in national databases investigating the effect of layered curriculum on achievement and attitudes, and the overall effect of the layered curriculum on achievement is found to be moderate, while its effect on attitudes is found to be very large. In the qualitative part of this mixed-meta analysis, the meta-thematic analysis method is conducted through document review and content analysis of a total of nine studies, and codes are classified under the themes of cognitive domain, attitudinal dimension, and limitations. These themes are visualized in the Maxqda program and presented in the findings section in two models. Some of the codes in the cognitive domain are increased academic achievement, permanence, repetition, peer assessment, self-evaluation, creativity, and imagination. In the dimension of attitude, codes are collaborative learning, aroused excitement, desire, and curiosity towards the lesson, increased interest, increased inclass solidarity, and student motivation towards the lesson. Limitations such as the lack of focus in the classroom because of noise, the difficulty of students with no manual dexterity, the need for detailed planning, the difficulty of creating an original product, and the lack of time are turned into a second model on their own as a theme. Suggestions regarding time management, comprehension of schedules and tasks, class size, and planning are presented to address the difficulties encountered in the studies. The current study provides insights into the effects of a layered curriculum on achievement and learning attitudes.

FLIPPED classrooms , *SCIENCE education , *SCIENCE students , *SCIENCE teachers , *ACADEMIC achievement , *CLASSROOMS - Abstract
Background: Flipped classroom, which is inversion of conventional classroom procedures in simple terms, currently stands out as a popular teaching strategy for many Science courses. Purpose: In this article, we tried to make a reinterpretation of the findings of recent empirical studies conducted on the effectiveness of the flipped classroom approach in science education. Design and Methods: To determine the overall effect size of the flipped classroom implementations in Science courses, a meta-analysis of 30 studies with such moderator variables as education levels, durations of implementations, various subjects areas of science and class sizes was carried out. To consolidate the academic achievement theme dwelled on in the meta-analysis part, a meta-thematic analysis based on document analysis of qualitative studies was conducted to expound in detail general characteristics of the approach, its effect on academic dimension, its contribution to the affective domain and classroom environment. Results: The findings reveal that the flipped classroom implementations have a positive medium effect (g = 0.727) on academic achievement in Science classes. Physics and Chemistry classes have the highest effect size values while Biology has the lowest effect size; the flipped classroom practices proved best in small size classes and at Primary School level with the highest effect sizes. Conclusions: The findings of both analyses provide insights into applicability of the approach in teaching of Science and its sub-branches. The drawbacks of the approach are also discussed with some suggestions for implication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of Covid-19 fear on travel intention and to test the mediating effect of reliance on vaccine in the relationship between fear of Covid-19 and travel intention. In this context, a structural model was created to examine these three variables: the relationship among fear of Covid-19, travel intention and trust in the vaccine. The quantitative study was carried out through a structural model in order to verify the behavior of the three variables together using Ibm Amos 24 package. A case study based on data collected from 467 public employees across Turkey supported empirically the study. At the end of the analysis, it was found that the fear of Covid-19 significantly and negatively affected the travel intention, while the fear of covid-19 significantly and negatively affected the trust in the vaccine, and no significant relationship was found between the trust in the vaccine and the travel intention. In the model in which the mediation effect was tested, it was found that trust in vaccine did not have a mediating effect on the relationship between fear of Covid-19 and travel intention. Considering these results, suggestions were made for the decision makers of travel, tourism and hospitality industry to be able to recover after the pandemic to create plan for policy and strategies.KEYWORDSTourism; Covid-19; Fear; Vaccine; Intention to Travel; Turkey. - Abstract
An increase in research on teaching of creativity in learning environments is being witnessed as more studies continue to reveal its effects on learning outcomes and academic achievement. Thus, any investigative attempt to examine the relevant approaches to teaching of creative thinking skills is appreciated within the creativity literature. However, it is evident that the research on brainstorming as a creativity-promoting technique within educational context has been overlooked for a while. Therefore, this research sythesis tried to recombine and reinterpret the results of some qualitative studies on the impacts of brainstorming technique on learners’ achievement. To this end, 34 studies were reached and 7 of them were found to be conducive to the meta-thematic analysis. The results of the meta-thematic analysis suggest that the brainstorming technique has positive effects on learners’ cognitive skills and affect. It is believed that designing instruction with brainstorming could foster students’ creativity, by directing them to solving problems via critical thinking. The study further dwells on the reported drawbacks that are encountered during the implementation of this technique within classroom, and discusses some possible solutions as implications.
