1. Quasi-Orthogonal Space-Time Block Coding with Closed-Loop Control in MIMO Communication Systems

Abstract

In the paper, we proposed a method of space-time diversity on the transmitting side, combining a closed feedback and quasi-orthogonal space-time coding technique called closed-loop control with quasi-orthogonal space-time block coding (QO-STBC). For a configuration 4x1-4x4 with four transmit and one receive antennas and four symbols per four resource elements, our method allows the QO-STBC to be completely orthogonalized what maximizes the diversity gain. It is shown that the developed approach can also be used for the 4x2-4x2 configuration. In this case, it is not possible to orthogonalize QO-STBC completely, but the level of inter-channel correlation is considerably reduced. A statistical modeling was carried out to study the characteristics of noise immunity of the proposed transmission scheme. We show that it is sufficient to use a one-bit command to control the phase of two transmitting antennas. A gain of 1.4 dB is achieved for the 4x1-4x4 scenario and 2.5 dB - for the 4x2-4x2 case. Phase control of transmitting antennas used in this method of signal transmission does not change the interference conditions.

Abstract

In the paper we develop and evaluate a novel low complexity algorithm of iterative detection and decoding in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. It is based on a new enhanced Turbo procedure. Although the algorithm utilizes well-known components such as linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) detector and channel decoder with soft bits feedback, the new original procedure of getting extrinsic data essentially allows improving the receiver performance and reducing its complexity. Moreover, it is shown that proposed Turbo approach works even without channel decoder in the iteration loop. Thus, we ob-tain pure iterative MMSE detector with improved performance. Utilization of combined scheme with MMSE detector and channel decoder feedback demonstrates really outstanding performance. It is confirmed with simulations that the performance of proposed architecture exceeds traditional ML MIMO detector schemes that are designed with channel decoder but without iterative loop.

Abstract

One of the development directions of new-generation mobile communications is using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels with a large number of antennas. This requires the development and utilization of new approaches to signal detection in MIMO channels, since the difference in the energy efficiency and the complexity between the optimal maximum likelihood algorithm and simpler linear algorithms become very large. The goal of the presented study is the development of a method for transforming a MIMO channel into a model based on a sparse matrix with a limited number of non-zero elements in a row. It was shown that the MIMO channel can be represented in the form of a Markov process. Hence, it becomes possible to use simple iterative MIMO demodulation algorithms such as message-passing algorithms (MPAs) and Turbo.

Abstract

The article is focused on research of an attack on the quantum key distribution system and proposes a countermeasure method. Particularly noteworthy is that this is not a classic attack on a quantum protocol. We describe an attack on the process of calibration. Results of the research show that quantum key distribution systems have vulnerabilities not only in the protocols, but also in other vital system components. The described type of attack does not affect the cryptographic strength of the received keys and does not point to the vulnerability of the quantum key distribution protocol. We also propose a method for autocompensating optical communication system development, which protects synchronization from unauthorized access. The proposed method is based on the use of sync pulses attenuated to a photon level in the process of detecting a time interval with a signal. The paper presents the results of experimental studies that show the discrepancies between the theoretical and real parameters of the system. The obtained data allow the length of the quantum channel to be calculated with high accuracy.

5. Depolarization Ratios of Methane Raman Bands as a Function of Pressure

Abstract

In this work, we measured the intensities of Q-branches of the ν1, ν2 and ν3 bands in the polarized and depolarized methane Raman spectra in the pressure range of 1–60 atm. It was established that the pressure dependence of depolarization ratios of the ν2 and ν3 bands are negligible. In turn, the depolarization ratio of the ν1 band increases with increasing pressure and reaches approximately 0.0045 at 60 atm. These data are more precise than previously published ones because ν1 band intensities were determined taking into account the contribution of overlapping lines of ν3 band. The presented data will be useful in calculating the methane polarizabilities at high pressure, as well as in calculating methane Raman spectra for measuring the natural gas composition using Raman spectroscopy.

Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) currently presents one of the biggest healthcare issues in the developed countries. There is no effective treatment capable of slowing down disease progression. In recent years the main focus of research on novel pharmacotherapies was based on the amyloidogenic hypothesis of AD, which posits that the beta amyloid (Aβ) peptide is chiefly responsible for cognitive impairment and neuronal death. The goal of such treatments is (a) to reduce Aβ production through the inhibition of β and γ secretase enzymes and (b) to promote dissolution of existing cerebral Aβ plaques. However, this approach has proven to be only modestly effective. Recent studies suggest an alternative strategy centred on the inhibition of the downstream Aβ signalling, particularly at the synapse. Aβ oligomers may cause aberrant N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) activation postsynaptically by forming complexes with the cell-surface prion protein (PrPC). PrPC is enriched at the neuronal postsynaptic density, where it interacts with Fyn tyrosine kinase. Fyn activation occurs when Aβ is bound to PrPC-Fyn complex. Fyn causes tyrosine phosphorylation of the NR2B subunit of metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5). Fyn kinase blockers masitinib and saracatinib have proven to be efficacious in treating AD symptoms in experimental mouse models of the disease.

23. Main Mechanisms of Celestial Bodies Negative Polarization Formation: A Review

Abstract

The scattered light by the vast majority of celestial bodies without atmospheres has a characteristic feature: A negative branch of linear polarization degree at little phase angles. Researchers have proposed many theoretical mechanisms to explain this feature. This review describes the main mechanisms that form a negative branch of linear polarization degree. The results of ground-based observations of the negative branch of the degree of linear polarization of various objects of the solar system are described. Scattering by single particles, shadow effect, coherent backscattering enhancement, and effects of the near field are considered. The review will be useful for all researchers studying the scattering of light by celestial bodies.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), encompassing both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. METHODS: GARFIELD-VTE is a prospective, non-interventional observational study of real-world treatment practices. We aimed to capture the 36-month clinical outcomes of 10,679 patients with objectively confirmed VTE enrolled between May 2014 and January 2017 from 415 sites in 28 countries. FINDINGS: A total of 6582 (61.6 %) patients had DVT alone, 4097 (38.4 %) had PE ± DVT. At baseline, 98.1 % of patients received anticoagulation (AC) with or without other modalities of therapy. The proportion of patients on AC therapy decreased over time: 87.6 % at 3 months, 73.0 % at 6 months, 54.2 % at 12 months and 42.0 % at 36 months. At 12-months follow-up, the incidences (95 % confidence interval [CI]) of all-cause mortality, recurrent VTE and major bleeding were 6.5 (7.0-8.1), 5.4 (4.9-5.9) and 2.7 (2.4-3.0) per 100 person-years, respectively. At 36-months, these decreased to 4.4 (4.2-4.7), 3.5 (3.2-2.7) and 1.4 (1.3-1.6) per 100 person-years, respectively. Over 36-months, the rate of all-cause mortality and major bleeds were highest in patients treated with parenteral therapy (PAR) versus oral anti-coagulants (OAC) and no OAC, and the rate of recurrent VTE was highest in patients on no OAC versus those on PAR and OAC. The most frequent cause of death after 36-month follow-up was cancer (n = 565, 48.6 %), followed by cardiac (n = 94, 8.1 %), and VTE (n = 38, 3.2 %). Most recurrent VTE events were DVT alone (n = 564, 63.3 %), with the remainder PE, (n = 236, 27.3 %), or PE in combination with DVT (n = 63, 7.3 %). INTERPRETATION: GARFIELD-VTE provides a global perspective of anticoagulation patterns and highlights the accumulation of events within the first 12 months after diagnosis. Abstract

We present ANISE, a method that reconstructs a 3D~shape from partial observations (images or sparse point clouds) using a part-aware neural implicit shape representation. The shape is formulated as an assembly of neural implicit functions, each representing a different part instance. In contrast to previous approaches, the prediction of this representation proceeds in a coarse-to-fine manner. Our model first reconstructs a structural arrangement of the shape in the form of geometric transformations of its part instances. Conditioned on them, the model predicts part latent codes encoding their surface geometry. Reconstructions can be obtained in two ways: (i) by directly decoding the part latent codes to part implicit functions, then combining them into the final shape; or (ii) by using part latents to retrieve similar part instances in a part database and assembling them in a single shape. We demonstrate that, when performing reconstruction by decoding part representations into implicit functions, our method achieves state-of-the-art part-aware reconstruction results from both images and sparse point clouds.When reconstructing shapes by assembling parts retrieved from a dataset, our approach significantly outperforms traditional shape retrieval methods even when significantly restricting the database size. We present our results in well-known sparse point cloud reconstruction and single-view reconstruction benchmarks.

Abstract

Modern analytical methods (optical and electron microscopy, X-ray microanalysis) were used to study the unique samples of sulfide ores from the Norilsk ore field from the Mining Museum collections of Saint Petersburg Mining University. Samples containing rare minerals of silver and platinum-group metals (sobolevskite, urvantsevite, sperrylite, argentopentlandite, froodite, kotulskite, and others) were studied. The chemical composition, grain sizes, aggregates, and mineral associations of more than ten noble metal minerals have been refined. The efficiency of combining various methods of electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis for studying samples of this type is shown. The results of the work made it possible to obtain high-quality images of rare minerals, to detail information on museum objects, and to compile their scientific description. The conducted research showed the relevance of studying museum objects from known deposits of complex genesis and mineral composition in order to find and describe the samples with rare minerals.
