High-entropy alloys are promising materials for novel thin-film resistors since they have high resistivity and a low-temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). In this work, a new high-entropy thin-film CoCrFeNiTix was deposited on a Si/SiO2 substrate by means of magnetron sputtering of the multi-component target produced by hot pressing of the powder mixture. The samples possessed a thickness of 130–230 nm and an amorphous atomic structure with nanocrystallite traces. This structure persisted after being annealed up to 400 °C, which was confirmed using X-ray and electron diffraction. The film had a single-phase structure with a smooth surface and a uniform distribution of all elements. The obtained film served for microresistor elaboration, which was produced using the lithography technique and tested in a temperature range from −60 °C up to 200 °C. Resistivity at room temperature was estimated as 2.37 μOhm·m. The results have demonstrated that TCR depends on temperature according to the simple linear law in a range from −60 °C up to 130 °C, changing its value from −78 ppm/°C at low temperatures to −6.6 ppm/°C at 130 °C. Such characteristics show the possibility of using these high-entropy alloy films for resistive elements in contemporary and future micro-electronic devices.

The ordered Ca3TaGa3Si2O14 and disordered La3Ga5SiO14 crystals of the lantangallium silicate family were grown via the Czochralski method. The independent coefficients of thermal expansion of crystals αc and αa were determined using X-ray powder diffraction based on the analysis of X-ray diffraction spectra measured in the temperature range of 25~1000 °C. It is shown that, in the temperature range of 25~800 °C, the thermal expansion coefficients are linear. At temperatures above 800 °C, there is a nonlinear character of the thermal expansion coefficients, associated with a decrease in the Ga content in the crystal lattice.

We consider composite minimax optimization problems where the goal is to find a saddle-point of a large sum of non-bilinear objective functions augmented by simple composite regularizers for the primal and dual variables. For such problems, under the average-smoothness assumption, we propose accelerated stochastic variance-reduced algorithms with optimal up to logarithmic factors complexity bounds. In particular, we consider strongly-convex-strongly-concave, convex-strongly-concave, and convex-concave objectives. To the best of our knowledge, these are the first nearly-optimal algorithms for this setting.

The first results of the physical modeling of positive multistrike lightning formation processes using positively charged artificial thunderstorm cells are presented. Experimental studies have shown a significant influence of the number of thunderstorm cells and groups of model hydrometeors introduced into them on the probability of the initiation of repeated strikes. It was found that with an increased number of cells and groups of model hydrometeors, the probability of the formation of repeated positive discharges increases several times. When the second group of model hydrometeors has been introduced into the artificial thunderstorm cell, or when the number of cells has been increased, the probability of the repeated discharge initiation has increased almost in three and in four times respectively. It has been revealed that, depending on the arrangement of model hydrometeor groups in artificial thundercloud cells, the formation of repeated positive discharges from them may proceed both with the “connection” of the uncharged areas of the lower cell and with the “connection” of the upper cell. The parameters of the first and repeated impulse current pulses between the positively charged cells and the ground were determined. It was found that with an increasing number of model hydrometeor groups, the value of the charge neutralized during the stages of first and repeated discharge formation increases. When forming multistrike positive discharges with the “connection” of the upper artificial thunderstorm cell, 20–30% more cloud charge has been neutralized during the repeated discharge than during the formation of a single positive discharge. It was found that the formation of positive repeated discharges was observed in about half of the cases, and that the radiation power and impulse current amplitude at repeated discharges are higher than at the first discharge. This article discusses some possible reasons for such a ratio between the parameters of the first and repeated discharges. It is assumed that the discovered significant influence of large model hydrometeor groups on the probability of the formation and the characteristics of repeated positive discharges from artificial thunderstorm cells indicate a possible key influence of hail arrays in the thundercloud on the formation of repeated strikes of positive lightning and bipolar lightning. The obtained results show that artificial thunderstorm cells of positive polarity, together with groups of large model hydrometeors, have prospects for physical modeling and the investigation of processes of the formation of positive and bipolar repeated lightning strikes.

The results of the physical modelling of the formation processes of upward discharges from grounded objects in the artificial thunderstorm cell’s electric field are presented. We established the considerable influence of the electrode tip’s radius on the pulse streamer corona stem’s parameters and, subsequently, on the probability of the transformation of the impulse streamer corona first flash’s stem into a first stage of upward leader. We determined the diapason of the optimal tip radii for a lightning rod or lightning conductor, which allows for the most probable formation of the first impulse streamer corona, with the parameters providing the best conditions for the upward leader’s start, the purpose of which is the lowering of the probability of lightning striking the object under protection. A considerable difference between the electrical characteristics of the first impulse corona flash with and without the streamer–leader transition was established. It was shown that the amplitude of the streamer corona flash current impulse is considerable, but not the main defining factor of the streamer–leader transition. It is established that the charge value of the streamer corona first flash is not a threshold requirement for the formation of the upward leader from a ground object, but only defines the probability of the successful upward leader formation. Based on the analysis of the experimental data received, we suggest that there is a dependency between the probability of upward positive leader formation from the grounded objects and the charge value of the first pulse streamer corona flash for the rod (centered) and rope (elongated) lightning conductors and objects in the electric field of the thundercloud and downward lightning leader. The obtained results can be used for mathematical modelling of the formation processes of upward discharges from grounded objects in the artificial thunderstorm’s electric field, as in a natural thunderstorm situation.

The results of experimental laboratory investigations of possible mechanisms of the impact of lightning and thunderclouds on aircraft radomes and equipment inside them are presented. An artificial thunderstorm cell of negative polarity and model aircraft radomes with lightning diverter strips have been used. Experiments have shown that the discharge processes in a radome model significantly depend on the magnitude of the charge that accumulates on the inner and outer surfaces of the radome shell. It is established that the accumulation of large-magnitude charges of different signs on the outer and/or inner surface of the radome (up to hundreds of µC/m2) shell leads to a multivariance of the mechanisms of development of discharge processes inside the radome model, along its surface, and in the space near it. Significant influence of the “reverse” discharge from the antenna model under the radome on the types of current impulses recorded on the antennas under impact of the artificial thunderstorm cell is established. Peculiarities of the discharge formation in the radome model when using solid and segmented diverter strips for its protection are revealed. Parameters of the current impulses registered on the diverter strips and the antennas have been determined. Based on the conducted research, the possible mechanisms of the impact of thunderclouds and lightning discharges on radio-transparent aircraft radomes and the equipment inside them are considered.

The article represents results of a physical simulation of incomplete upward leader discharges induced on air transmission lines’ elements, using charged artificial thunderstorm cells of negative polarity. The influence of such discharges on closely located model sensors (both of rod and elongated types) of digital monitoring systems, as well as on the models of receiver-transmission systems of local data collection (antennas), was determined. Effect of heterogeneity of electromagnetic field caused by incomplete upward discharges on frequency specter of signals generated on sensors and antennas was estimated. Wavelet analysis was carried out to determine the basic frequency diapasons of such signals. Based on experimental data obtained, suppositions about the extent of influence of nearby incomplete leader discharges on the functioning of currently used systems of transmission lines’ monitoring were made.

Zinc plant residue (ZPR) is a secondary material generated during hydrometallurgical zinc production that contains considerable contents of valuable elements such as Zn, Cu, Fe, Pb, Cd, Ag, In, Ga, Tl. Zinc, copper and accompanying elements in ZPR are in different minerals, mainly in the ferrites. A promising approach for recycling ZPR is the sulfating roasting using iron sulfates followed by water leaching. In this study, the composition of ZPR and the obtained products were thoroughly investigated by various methods including X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), chemical phase analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The effect of temperature, amount of iron sulfates and roasting time on the conversion of valuable metals into a water-soluble form was thermodynamically and experimentally studied both using pure ferrites and ZPR. Based on the results of time-resolved XRD analysis and synchronous thermal analysis (STA), a mechanism of the sulfation roasting was elucidated. The rate-controlling step of zinc and copper sulfation process during the ZPR roasting was estimated. The sulfating roasting at 600 °C during 180 min with the optimal Fe2(SO4)3∙9H2O addition followed by water leaching enables to recover 99% Zn and 80.3% Cu, while Fe, Pb, Ag, In, Ga retained almost fully in the residue.

The results of a physical simulation using negatively charged artificial thunderstorm cells to test the spectrum of possible electromagnetic effects of upward streamer discharges on the model elements of transmission line monitoring systems (sensor or antennas) are presented. Rod and elongated model elements with different electric field amplification coefficients are investigated. A generalization is made about the parameters of upward streamer current impulse and its electromagnetic effect on both kinds of model elements. A wavelet analysis of the upward streamer corona current impulse and of the signal simultaneously induced in the neighboring model element is conducted. A generalization of the spectral characteristics of the upward streamer current and of the signals induced by the electromagnetic radiation of the nearby impulse streamer corona on model elements is made. The reasons for super-high and ultra-high frequency ranges in the wavelet spectrum of the induced electromagnetic effect are discussed. The characteristic spectral ranges of the possible electromagnetic effect of upward streamer flash on the elements of transmission line monitoring systems are considered.

One of the most important negative regulator of muscle grow in mammalians is myostatin. Some mutations in myostatin gene (MSTN) can decrease the effect of protein and play role in meat quality of sheep. Therefore, in genome selection, knowledge of MSTN gene structure is very important. We investigated the polymorphism of the MSTN gene and its influence on body parameters in Russian sheep breed Dzhalginsky Merino. To detect alleles, we use NimbleGen sequencing technolog). In this breed, we found 20 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). That is SNP in promoter: с.-1866, с.-1404, с.-1401, с.-1213, с.-1128, с.-958, с.-783; 5'UTR: с.-40; exon I: с.101; intron 1-2: c.373+18, c.373+241, c.373+243, c.373+259, c.373+563; intron 2-3: с.747+164, с.747+309, с.748-810, с.748-229G>A, с.748-475; 3'UTR: с.*1232. Three of detected SNP (c.-1128, c.-958, c.-40) have a negative effect on the body parameters – decrease weight, height and other. Other three SNP (c.101, c.373+18, с.*1232) have not significant influence on this parameters. Our investigation is a base of next research of affection of different MSTN gene alleles on meat quality and can be used to prepare a PCR test-system for genomic selection.

Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) plays an important role in the growth and development of muscle tissue in animals. Research into the structure of IGF1 in sheep may provide important information for genomic marker assisted selection used to increase meat production. We investigated the structure of the IGF1 gene and the effect of polymorphisms on lifetime meat productivity performance in the Russian Soviet Merino sheep breed. Alleles were detected in 15 rams using NimbleGen sequencing technology by Roche (USA). 18 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found in this breed. Only one SNP – c.-81T>C – was found in the coding region. All other SNPs were located in introns 5’UTR and 3’UTR. The c.-5363C>T, c.-5188G>C, c.-5186G>A and c.-4088G>A polymorphisms, presented together in two alleles of the gene, correlate with a high live weight in a heterozygous state. The synonymous substitution of c.81T>C in the exon was not found to have any influence on the analyzed meat production parameters. One of the detected SNPs – c.-91A>C – had a positive correlation with weight, height, croup parameters and other attributes in rams.

Summary Background: marker assisted selection methods of sheep require the identification of genes that positively and negatively affect meat quality. Genes with high expression levels could have the greatest impact on growth and structure of muscle fibers. Objective: this study evaluated the expression of genes in the loin muscle of Dzhalginsky Merino sheep. Methods: reverse transcription-quantitative real-time PCR (RT-qPCR) was used to investigate the expression of 48 genes in the loin muscle of Dzhalginsky Merino sheep bred in Russia. Results: genes GAPDH, PYGM, CAST, ATP5G1, CAPN3, SOD1, VEGFA, CALM2, YWHAZ, ASIP,MYOD1, CAPN1, GHR, OXTR, BEGAIN, SLC2A3, and SS18L2 showed the highest expression. The group of genes with a medium level of expression included ATOX1, BAMBI, TLR6, IGF2, FOS, FST, GGTA2P, C-MET, FGF5, ACVR2A, CAPN2, GH, DGAT1, and IGF1. Low levels of expression were identified for genes ABCG2, SPP2, PYGL, PPARG2, TGFB1, CXCR4, MSTN, CYP2J, LEPR, CDKN1A, IGFBP4, and SERT. Trace expression was detected in genes SST, TSHR, GDF9, FGF7 and BMP15. Significant correlation between expression level and live weight was observed for most of the investigated genes. Conclusion: our results demonstrate the feasibility of using these newly identified candidate genes as genetic markers in sheep.
