Wat kunnen we leren van de sociale, gezondheids- en economische crisis waarin we ons nu bevinden? Koen Dittrich, lector circulaire economie op de Hogeschool Rotterdam en onderzoeker innovatiemanagement aan Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), pleit voor de inrichting van een minder kwetsbaar sociaaleconomisch systeem, waarin welvaart, klimaat en welzijn hand in hand gaan. Hoe zou dat systeem er na de coronacrisis dan uit moeten zien? En is bijvoorbeeld de groei van de luchtvaart wel zo belangrijk voor de Nederlandse economie?

Een transitie naar een Circulaire Economie kan een oplossing betekenen voor bedrijfsleven en consument om de ecologische voetafdruk drastisch te verkleinen. Deze transitie staat echter nog in de kinderschoenen. Terwijl bedrijven misschien vinden dat ze duurzaam denken en doen, opereren ze vaak nog vanuit een lineair businessmodel: ze maken een product, er ontstaat afval en uitstoot en ze verzinnen een oplossing om dat afval te recyclen zodat het op een veelal laagwaardige manier deels kan worden hergebruikt. Een nieuwe denkwijze, waarin het bedrijfsleven hun afval en uitstoot tot nul terugbrengt, is noodzakelijk. Koen Dittrich wil met zijn lectoraat een bijdrage leveren aan het ontwikkelen van nieuwe waardenmodellen en waardensystemen voor het mkb in de metropoolregio Rotterdam-Den Haag. Een belangrijke uitdaging voor het bereiken van de circulaire economie is het maken van een goede vertaalslag van dit abstracte concept naar bruikbare richtlijnen voor het mkb-bedrijf. Het lectoraat wil het mkb helpen een realistische strategie te ontwikkelen, met een duidelijk stappenplan voor verduurzaming van de productie en voor herontwerp van de waardeketen van het mkb-bedrijf. De wisselwerking tussen het waardenmodel van het individuele mkb-bedrijf en het waardensysteem van de keten en de bedrijfslocatie zal hierbij centraal staan. De combinatie die het lectoraat maakt van enerzijds de keten- en gebiedsvraagstukken en anderzijds het waardenmodel van individuele bedrijven, is relatief nieuw. Omdat de transitie naar een circulaire economie complex is en technische, creatieve en economische kennis en expertise vergt uit verschillende disciplines, zal het onderzoek en het daaraan gekoppelde onderwijs multidisciplinair en daarmee hogeschoolbreed worden uitgevoerd.

How can we persuade consumers to adopt more sustainable purchasing practices (e.g. buying less, buying sustainable items, or choosing for sustainable brands) when it comes to fashion products? With the support of 2nd year International Business Management students, we collected data from 1008 respondents, mostly from Millennials and Generation Z. Based on the results, we conclude that concern about the environment motivates consumers to consume fashion products more sustainable, in particular when reminded of its positive impact. Consumers who are less concerned about the environment can be persuaded to choose the sustainable option when sustainable choices are widely available, when items are competitively priced, and when second-hand garments look like new. This research gives direction to further identification and exploration of the triggers that can persuade consumers to consume more sustainable.

The overwhelming commercial success of connected things and personal mobile devices is driving the dense and uncontrolled deployment of wireless networks using unlicensed frequency bands. This results in heavy congestion and interference, leading to considerable loss of network performance. The only sustainable solution is some form of collaboration between users. Not only does this require new technology to facilitate such collaboration, it also demands for new business models that accommodate new, collaboration facilitating roles. In this paper we propose a generic business model for sustainable spectrum sharing in unlicensed frequency band. It includes two new actors, the Spectrum Broker and the Wi-5 System Operator. The business model is tested against popular use cases, in dialogue with various European network operators. The results indicate that the model is applicable and viable. A© 2018 IEEE.

We currently know little about how transferring can be accomplished when source- and target environments only have little in common. This chapter utilizes the case of EuroCo and AsiaCo to account for how a transfer of interrelated routines across multiple boundaries unfolds. A pragmatic and flexible approach to transferring, where coordinating actors attended to replication and adaptation as means rather than ends, is illuminated. Notably, coordinators split their work into smaller chunks by focusing on artifacts, people, and actions. As pressures to progress the transfer increased, they conceived of new ideas for performances and put the ideas to use along three trajectories focused on embedding, embodying, and enacting routines. Eventually, they blended performances from each trajectory back together into a new overarching notion of what was to be transferred. In elaborating on and discussing these findings, the chapter contributes to literature on routine transfer. Boundary conditions and avenues for future research are discussed.
