The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great psychological distress in healthcare workers, especially among nurses. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on a large sample of Spanish nurses in the public health system in terms of anxiety, depression, perceived stress, fear of COVID-19, compassion fatigue, burnout, and demand for psychological help, as well as the possible effect of preventive confinements on these variables. A cross-sectional descriptive study design was developed in December 2020 among 439 registered nurses from the Public Health Service of the Principality of Asturias. Psychological variables were measured by using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), and the compassion fatigue and burnout subscales from the Professional Quality of Life Questionnaire (ProQoL). The study found 37.6 % of nurses with anxiety and 17.1 % with depression. Perceived stress and compassion fatigue levels were medium/high. Also, burnout level was high in 50.6 % of participants. Being a woman (medium/large effect size), working with COVID-19 patients (medium effect size) and previous quarantines (small/medium effect size) were associated with higher psychological distress. Preventive quarantines increase anxiety and fear of COVID-19 (medium effect size), depression and compassion fatigue (small effect size). The COVID-19 infection does not have a significant impact in terms of psychological distress or professional quality of life among nursing professionals. Given the high proportion of professionals at risk of developing emotional disorders, the implementation of mental health preventive programs is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the perception of nurses about working conditions in the context of PHC during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, part of a multicenter study with a national scope. The data presented in this study correspond to those obtained in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in which 45 nurses from primary health care were interviewed from December 2020 to April 2021. After the interviews, the recorded narratives were transcribed and analyzed through the Bardin's Content Analysis. Results: The collective discourse showed that the use of Personal Protective Equipment, the organization and development of new protocols and care flows brought psychic suffering to professionals, both due to inadequate working conditions and the proximity to the suffering of patients and the fear of Contagion. Conclusion: Even with so many difficulties, nurses working in primary health care had to rebuild their practices in order to guarantee, within the limits imposed by the adverse situation, the best possible assistance, showing the strength and resilience of PHC teams in the most diverse contexts. Research has stressed the importance of the family domain for the individual's well‐being, but the heterogeneity/homogeneity of satisfaction with family life between and within families have not previously assessed. This study identifies family profiles based on the level of family life satisfaction in mother–father–adolescent triads and determines whether profiles differ in terms of the three family members' perceived family support, importance assigned to the family, both parents' work–life balance and mental health, and the household's economic situation. The sample was composed of 303 families of different‐sex dual‐earner parents with one child aged between 10 and 17 years, from Temuco, Chile. A Latent Profile Analysis was used to identify three profiles: Families with low family satisfaction (17.80%), Families with medium family satisfaction (68.14%), and Families with high family satisfaction (14.06%). Profiles also differed in the three family members' perceived family support and importance assigned to the family, both parents' work–life balance and mental health, and in the household's income. Mothers, fathers, and adolescents in these profiles also differed from one another in these variables. The main variable related to the family members' satisfaction with family life was the parents' mental health problems. Family life satisfaction in dual‐earner couples with adolescent children is heterogenous, and these profiles draw attention to indicators of parent–child well‐being. Families with lower levels of family satisfaction require particular attention in research and interventions, as these families may report a lower household income, and the parents may experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, and stress, and diverging levels of work–life balance.

Objective: to estimate the frequency of perceived psychological stress (PPS) and identify associated factors in low obstetric risk pregnancies. Materials and methods: a cross-sectional study that is part of the "biopsychosocial health in low-risk pregnant women in prenatal control" research project. 683 pregnant women who attend prenatal control at Santa Cruz of Bocagrande clinic in Cartagena, Colombia were studied. Form of sociodemographic characteristics, obstetric history, and perceived psychological stress questionnaire of 10 items (PSS-10) was applied. Anonymous and voluntary participation, statistical analysis was performed with Epi-Info 7.2. Unadjusted bivariate logistic regression between PPS and qualitative variables was carried out. The correlation coefficient between PSS-10 and quantitative variables was estimated. P<0.05: Statistically significant. Results: age 28.3±6.3; years studied 12.5±2.7; nutritional status: normal 30.4% [IC95%:27.0-34.0], overweight 17.7% [IC95%:14.9-20.8], obesity 33.0% [IC95%:29.5-36.7]. More than 60% never/almost never faced their things or solved their problems. PPS in 350 participants (51.2%) was found. Energy drinks consumption OR:7.4 [IC95%:1.6-32.5], economic problems OR:2.9[IC95%:2.0-4.3, partner problems OR:1.9[IC95%:1.0-3.4], anxiety OR:2.0[IC95%:1.3-2.9] and fatigue OR:1.7[IC95%:1.2-2.4], were associated with PPS. Also work as an employee OR:0.5[IC95%:0.3-0.7] and be professional OR:0.5[IC95%:0.3-0.7]. Hypertension arterial, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and gestational diabetes, were not associated with PPS. The correlation between PSS-10 with maternal age was: rho: -0.11[IC95%:- 0.21to-0.06], with years studied rho: -0.12[IC95%:-0.19to-0.51]. No correlation was observed between PPE with gestational age, pregnancies, miscarriage, vaginal deliveries or cesarean sections (p>0.05). Conclusion: PPS was present in half of the pregnant population and many psychosocial factors unlike obstetric and biomedical ones explored were significantly associated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Describe strategies for psychological stress management, elucidating the relationship between psychological stress and the quality of life in registered nurses. Methods: This study is an integrative review, conducted in 2020 among the months of june and july, including publications from the last five years from the following databases National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online and Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde. Results: 3,796 articles were found for analysis and 19 fulfilled the criteria and were included in the study. The predominant type of strategy for psychological stress management found was meditation. The interventions founded were effective in reducing stress and it demonstrated that there is a negative association between stressors and quality of life. Amongst the greatest benefits can be highlighted improved attention, communication, better sleep quality, ability to be present in the moment, compassion and general well-being. Conclusion: There are inherent and non-inherent factors in labor that influence the nurse's quality of life. Meditation, yoga and educational programs are examples of strategies which the worker can use in order to reduce stress levels, burnout, and in exchange increase compassion satisfaction levels. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the occurrence of suicidal ideation in a sample of undergraduate students, as well as its association with mental suffering and sociodemographic characteristics. In February 2020, 223 students from Federal University of Sergipe belonging to all areas of knowledge responded to a questionnaire in person, with approximately the same gender ratio. Were applied a questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics, the Questionnaire of Impulsiveness, Self-harm and Suicidal Ideation for Adolescents (QIAIS-A), and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). It was found that 52,9% of the students reported having considerable mental suffering and 32,3% had suicidal ideation. A logistic regression indicated that mental suffering was the only significant predictor for suicidal ideation. Thus, individuals that reported considerable mental suffering had almost nine times more chances to show suicidal ideation. Considering our findings, it was concluded that mental health care is an urgency for undergraduate students and intervention measures need to be adopted by institutions as soon as possible. SOCIAL distancing , *VIRTUAL classrooms , *COMMUNITIES , *COVID-19 pandemic , *WELL-being - Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic and the social distancing measures had psychosocial implications for the entire university's community. This study aims to identify factors associated with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress in a university's community in quarantine measures due to the health emergency. A cross-sectional study with quantitative and exploratory approach was undergone between April and May 2020, using anxiety, depression, and stress scale (DASS-21). A sample of 1,796 individuals participated in the study. Results from quisi-Poisson regression showed that history of mental disorder, worsening emotional status, and financial difficulties were associated with high scores for the three outcomes. Practicing an activity that provides well-being and having a computer at home were negatively associated with high depression scores. Shifts from face-to-face to remote classes may have negative implications in mental health of university's communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: To translate the Neonatal Unit Parental Stress scale into Portuguese and culturally and linguistically adapt it for Portugal, and to evaluate the psychometric qualities of the Neonatal Unit Parental Stress Assessment Scale - Modified Version (EASPUN-MV). Method: This was a quantitative methodological study to validate the Neonatal Unit Parental Stress Assessment Scale. Parents were selected by non-probabilistic sampling (n = 406 parents). Descriptive statistics, standardized Cronbach's alpha, and confirmatory factor analysis were used to calculate the sensitivity, validity, and reliability of the Neonatology Unit Parental Stress Assessment Scale (indexes of the model's goodness of fit χ²/df, CFI, TLI, RMSEA, P(RMSEA). Results: The empirical indexes of the EASPUN-MV's factorial model showed acceptable goodness of fit (χ²/df=3.3; CFI=0.8; GFI=0.8; TLI=0.8 and P(RMSEA)=0.07). Conclusion: The Neonatology Unit Parental Stress Assessment Scale - Modified Version is a psychometrically sensitive, valid and reliable instrument that can systematically assess parental stress and facilitate the decision-making of nurses, the follow-up care of parents, and their referral to other healthcare professionals.

Internet use patterns, generalized problematic internet use, and the latter's relation to psychological distress were explored in a sample of 503 university students (Mage = 20.25; SD = 2.75). A questionnaire about internet use patterns, the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales were answered. The students spent 5 hours online on a daily basis. The total generalized problematic internet use index score corresponded to a medium-risk level, with 12.9% of men and 5.0% of women presenting a high-risk level. Higher total generalized problematic internet use risk levels corresponded to higher levels of depression, anxiety and stress. Our results seem to show that university students constitute a particularly vulnerable group in terms of problematic internet use, supporting the relation between generalized problematic internet use and psychological distress. - Abstract
Studies on stress and decision-making usually address acute and artificial stressors. However, COVID-19 outbreak set the perfect scenarioto address how decision-making, and specifically loss aversion, could be affected by a real and persistent stressor, able to promote a significantpsychological distress. In parallel, alexithymia has been identified as a potential moderator of the loss aversion expression, since it could impairthe incorporation of emotional information when making a decision, leading to “cold” decisions. Through a within-subjects design (N = 70), ouraim was to study the relationship between the psychological distress caused by the pandemic context and the loss aversion changes, consideringalexithymia as a moderating factor. Our results show a significant increment in both psychological distress and loss aversion, merely one monthafter the confinement’s onset. Moreover, both variables were positively associated only when alexithymia was low, i.e., the alexithymia bufferedthe effect of psychological distress on decision-making: a higher alexithymia implied a lower loss aversion increase., Los estudios sobre estrés y toma de decisiones suelen abordar estresores agudos y artificiales.

Objective: To theoretically describe the main factors of Minority Stress related to the manifestation of the depressive state in LGB individuals through a narrative review, based on psychiatric conceptions about depression. Methodology: A narrative review of recent literature, including free articles from the last 05 years (from 2018 to 2022) found from a search on online platforms. For the choice of method, the scope made possible for the theoretical discussion of the theme was considered. Results and discussions: MS is a component of the etiology of the depressive state. MS factors are related to family relationships, internalized homophobia, discrimination, and stigma, and predict depressive symptoms such as sadness and suicidal ideation. They are also part of a bad relationship with religiosity, a hostile political atmosphere, and intersectionality. Community connectivity, disclosure of sexual orientation, family acceptance, and redefinition of spirituality act as psychoprotectors and as sources of hope and peace, preventing the impoverishment of social relationships. Conclusion: quantitative and qualitative studies on the subject are rare, especially in Brazil. However, the debate on the subject is necessary and should be expanded. The community of health professionals should benefit from the discussions, to update knowledge, and reach a humanitarian and compassion-based form of care. The pandemic generated a state of calamity and social panic at a global level, intensifying levels of stress and anxiety, causing people to suffer psychological and social impacts to different degrees. Furthermore, it directly affected patients with orofacial pain, bruxism and Temporomandibular Disorders, since they are influenced by the emotional state of being. The present study aimed to study the impact of anxiogenic factors in patients with TMD treated at PoliUEA during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an analytical, observational cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach to be quantified. Thus, a questionnaire based on the DC/TMD was used for data collection. A sample of 83 patients was obtained, being: 74 (89.1%) women and 9 (10.9%) men and a prevalent age group between 18 and 59 years (96.4%). 54.2% of patients reported having various concerns while 63.9% reported feeling nervous and/or anxious. 88% indicated aggravation of pain during the period of social isolation, while 12% reported no significant change in terms of worsening pain symptoms. Based on the results, it was concluded that there is a relationship between the worsening of symptoms in patients with TMD treated at the PoliUEA caused by social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic and the use of methods - such as DC/TMD - is recommended, since they encompass the biopsychosocial assessment of the patient and there are indicators of such an impact on the individual's pain. Introduction: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is characterized by a temporary left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction, usually in the context of acute physical or emotional stress. Thus, the stress mechanism generated by the pandemic and the COVID-19 infection has been related to this syndrome. Objective: To analyze, through a literature review, the relationship between COVID-19 and Takotsubo Syndrome, taking into account the pathophysiological mechanisms involved. Methods: This is a literature review with searches performed in July 2022, using the PubMed database. Results and Discussion: 29 articles were selected, after full evaluation, the main findings show an increase in the incidence of TTS in the general population and in patients with COVID-19. The pathophysiological mechanisms involved include the increase in catecholamines and cortisol, cytokine storm, microvascular dysfunction and the direct action of SARS-COV-2 on cardiomyocytes and endothelium, in addition to the psychological burden resulting from the pandemic. Conclusion: The incidence of stress-induced cardiomyopathy is expected to increase in the general population, driven by the psychosocial consequences of this period. Therefore, it is imperative that clinicians are familiar with the clinical presentation, possible complications, and management of TTS. An important limitation to the effectiveness of family mediation in assisting separated parents is parents failing to engage in the mediation process. In 524 parents who presented to a telephone‐based mediation service, 113 (22%) initiating parents withdrew from mediation before the other parent was invited to participate, 241 (46%) initiating parents had respondent parents who declined to participate in mediation, and 170 cases (33%) completed mediation. We tested whether socio‐demographic variables, psychological distress, coparental acrimony, parenting problems, or children's behavioral difficulties predicted mediation engagement. High interparental acrimony predicted failure to engage in mediation, but none of the other variables predicted mediation engagement. We followed a sample of 131 families that did not mediate and found they showed elevated psychological distress, acrimony, parenting problems and child adjustment difficulties, which remained unchanged 6 months later. Further research is needed to explore strategies to enhance respondent parent engagement with mediation, and to address the negative outcomes for those separated families not proceeding with mediation.
