A cor da madeira é uma característica decisiva na escolha de pisos pelos consumidores. O objetivo deste estudo foi fazer a caracterização colorimétrica de pisos de cinco espécies tropicais amazônicas: Dipteryx odorata (cumaru), Handroanthus spp. (ipê), Hymenaea courbaril (jatobá), Astronium lecointei (muiracatiara) e Bowdichia virgilioides (sucupira-preta), bem como correlacionar os parâmetros colorimétricos com a densidade básica da madeira. A caracterização colorimétrica foi determinada na face superior tangencial dos pisos, obtendo-se os parâmetros colorimétricos L* (luminosidade), a* (coordenada cromática verde-vermelho) e b* (coordenada cromática azul-amarelo), com base no sistema CIEL*a*b*, e os parâmetros C (saturação) e h* (ângulo de tinta) foram calculados. Os resultados foram submetidos à análises de variância e ao teste de Tukey (p≤0,05) para verificar diferenças entre as espécies e avaliou-se a correlação de Pearson entre os parâmetros colorimétricos e a densidade básica da madeira. Os parâmetros colorimétricos variaram entre as espécies, com L* de 47,43 a 63,08; a* de 6,50 a 13,52; b* de 17,74 a 26,16; C de 18,89 a 29,31; e, h* de 61,56 a 69,86 e esses apresentaram baixa variação dentro da mesma espécie. Conclui-se que os pisos de madeira das espécies cumaru, ipê e sucupira-preta são escuros e os de jatobá e muiracatiara, claros. Há uma correlação inversa entre a densidade básica e a luminosidade (L*) das madeiras avaliadas. A colorimetria pode ser utilizada como critério auxiliar de classificação de madeiras destinadas à produção de pisos.

Soil fertility management and N-fixing species can support the ecosystem-level restoration of disrupted biogeochemical cycles in tropical degraded environments. However, the effectiveness of N-fixers during tropical forest restoration remains unclear. We hypothesized that tree legumes adjust growth, nonstructural carbohydrate allocation and foliar nutrients under different fertilization regimes. We compared the following six tree legume species: three native nonfixers (Cenostigma, Senna and Dipteryx), two native N-fixers (Clitoria and Inga) and an introduced N-fixer (Acacia). Twenty-four months after the experiment was established, fertilized plants increased growth rates and starch allocation to leaves, whereas unfertilized plants primarily increased their biomass and starch allocation to roots. The greater tolerance to nutrient deficiency of the Acacia than other native tree legumes was due to Acacia’s ability to adjust carbohydrate pools. N-fixers adjusted the shoot-to-root ratio and soluble sugar allocation to leaves, increasing biomass growth. The three N-fixing species were especially suitable for restoration because Acacia had tolerance of nutrient deficiencies, Clitoria and Inga had fast growth and biomass production. Hence, fertilization management and N-fixing species may have a considerable impact on C stocks in different plant compartments. Overall non-structural carbohydrate adjustments influence growth responses of species, especially the ratio between leaf and root tissues. Our findings suggest that this aspect should be considered as a tree species selection criterion for forest restoration programs in the Amazon region.

O cumaru (Dipteryx odorata (Aubl.) é uma leguminosa da família Fabaceae, suas sementes são muito utilizadas na extração do óleo, o qual é bastante utilizado pela medicina popular como antiespasmódico, tônico, anti-inflamatório, reumatismos e antimicrobiano. A cumarina está presente na semente e também em toda a extensão da planta. O objetivo deste trabalho foi obter o óleo da semente e o extrato de folhas, realizar ensaios biológicos com o extrato e elaboração de um produto biotecnológico. O estudo foi realizado no laboratório de Química Orgânica da Universidade Federal do Amazonas, no qual as sementes foram coletadas, maceradas, para extração do óleo, em seguida, se realizou análise por cromatografia de camada delgada (CCD) do óleo da semente. As folhas foram maceradas, e preparadas as exsicatas, utilizou-se o óleo na produção do produto e para os ensaios biológicos frente às bactérias: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae. Os resultados obtidos da extração das sementes foram o óleo e os cristais brancos em forma de agulha. Após análises cromatográficas (CCD) do extrato das folhas foi possível observar a presença de cumarina. O ensaio biológico com os cristais frente às bactérias S. aureus, E. coli, K. Pneumoniae apresentou halo de inibição. Assim, o óleo e a cumarina presentes na semente podem atuar como antibacteriano natural para o tratamento de várias doenças infecciosas causadas pela bactéria S. aureus. Abstract Coumaru (Dipteryx odorata (Aubl.) is a legume of the Fabaceae family, its seeds are widely used in oil extraction, which is widely used by folk medicine as an antispasmodic, tonic, anti-inflammatory, rheumatism and antimicrobial. Coumarin is present in the seed and also in the entire length of the plant. The objective of this work was to obtain the seed oil or the leaf extract, to perform biological tests with the extract and to elaborate a biotechnological product. The study was carried out in the Organic Chemistry laboratory, where the seeds were collected, macerated, for oil extraction, then a CCD analysis of the seed oil was carried out, the leaves were macerated, and the exsiccates were prepared, the oil was used in the product production and for biological tests against bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results obtained from the seeds extraction were oil and white crystals. After a chromatographic analysis (CCD) of the leaf extract, it was possible to observe the presence of coumarin. The biological assay with the crystals against the bacteria S. aureus, E. coli, K. Pneumoniae showed an inhibition halo. Thus, the oil and coumarin present in the seed can act as a natural antibacterial for the treatment of various infectious diseases caused by the bacteria S. aureus. Water deficit to causes serious problems in the growth and development of plants, impairing their metabolism. Thus, it is necessary to use agents that can mitigate plant damage. This study assesses the potential of silicon to mitigate water deficit stress in Dipteryx alata Vogel seedlings and to help in their recovery after the resumption of irrigation. The study analyzed four water regimes: (I) Continuous irrigation; (II) Water deficit without Si; (III) Water deficit + 0.75 mL Si; and (IV) Water deficit + 1.50 mL Si. Seedlings were evaluated in four periods: (1) (T0 – time zero) at the beginning of the experiment, before irrigation suspension; (2) (P0) when the photosynthetic rates (A) of seedlings under irrigation suspension reached values close to zero, period in which irrigation was resumed; (3) (REC) when A reached values close to those of seedlings under continuous irrigation, characterizing the recovery period; and (4) (END) 45 days after REC, when seedlings were kept under continuous irrigation, similar to the control. Application of 0.75 mL Si alleviates damage to the photosynthetic apparatus of D. alata seedlings that remain longer under water deficit, and contributes to faster physiological recovery after the resumption of irrigation. D. alata seedlings have recovery potential after the stress period, regardless of Si application. Resumo O déficit hídrico vem ocasionando sérios problemas no crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas, fazendo com que ocorram danos no seu metabolismo. Assim, faz necessário o uso de agentes que possam mitigar os danos ocasionados nas plantas. Objetivamos neste estudo verificar o potencial do silício de mitigar os efeitos estressantes do déficit hídrico em mudas de Dipteryx alata Vogel, e auxiliar na recuperação após a retomada da irrigação. Foram estudados quatro regimes hídricos: (I) Irrigação contínua; (II): Déficit hídrico + Si 0; (III): Déficit hídrico + 0.75 mL de Si e (IV): Déficit hídrico + 1.50 mL de Si. As mudas foram avaliadas em quatro períodos: (1) (T0 – tempo zero) início do experimento, período antes de iniciar a suspensão da irrigação, (2) (F0) quando os valores da taxa fotossintética nas mudas sob suspensão da irrigação chegaram próximos à zero, quando ocorreu a retomada da irrigação; (3) (REC) quando os valores de A alcançaram valores próximos ao das mudas sob irrigação contínua, caracterizando o período de recuperação e (4) (FINAL) 45 dias após a REC quando as mudas foram mantidas sob irrigação contínua, semelhante ao controle. A aplicação de 0.75 mL de Si alivia os danos ao aparato fotossintético das mudas de D. alata por maior período sob déficit hídrico, e contribui na recuperação fisiológica de maneira mais rápida após a retomada da irrigação. As mudas de D. alata apresentam potencial de recuperação após o período de estresse, independente da aplicação de Si.

Objectives Tree legume species play an important role in forest restoration in the tropics. Understanding how different species adjust carbohydrate allocation and growth under distinct nutrient availability will enhance the success of restoring degraded areas. Data description A 2-year tropical forest plantation of the Forest Restoration Program of the Balbina Hydropower Dam was evaluated. Three non-N-fixing (Cenostigma tocantinum, Dipteryx odorata and Senna reticulata) and three N-fixing (Clitoria fairchildiana, Inga edulis and Acacia spp.) tree legume species were either fertilized or not fertilized. Growth rates and biomass allocation were calculated, and carbon (C) fractions and nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) concentrations were determined. Multiple nutrient additions increased the growth rates and aboveground biomass production of fertilized plants. According to the results presented, different species and N- fixers respond differently to fertilization regimes. The authors encourage the use of the presented data in meta-analysis studies that consider the fertilization or nutrient deficiency effects on growth, carbohydrate and nutrient responses. N-fixing species with high biomass growth and foliar N are important for restoring N and C cycles in nutrient-limited soils. Fertilization treatments are fundamental during the early stages of forest plantation development.

Experimental mixture design was drawn to evaluated the effects of the interactions between water, methanol and ethyl acetate mixtures on the extraction efficiency of coumarin (1,2-benzopyrone) from Dipteryx odorata seeds. Solvents were defined considering those preferred as green solvents for natural products extraction. Ultrasonic-assisted extraction method developed was simple, fast, low cost and highly selective. Analyses were performed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography using acetonitrile/water (40:60 v/v) as mobile phase, a C18 column, and a diode-array detector at 274 nm. Results were evaluated in linear, quadratic, special cubic, and full cubic models. The Full cubic model showed the best extraction results with a total error of 3.67%. The optimal extraction point was obtained using 15% water, 20% methanol, and 65% ethyl acetate (v/v). Based on the Guide for the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurements and Monte Carlo simulations, the uncertainty expression presented deviations of 1.18 and 1.64, respectively, showing the reliability of the analytical method. D. odorata seeds are popularly used in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic applications due to high content of coumarins. However, the yield of coumarins extraction depends on the proper choice of the extraction method and solvents. The ternary mixture was optimized and resulted in 3.82% coumarin (weight/seed), which, compared to literature, showed a good increase over that obtained using common solvents, without considering the mathematical modeling.

Dipteryx alata Vogel is a tree species widely found in Cerrado, settling preferentially in well drained soils. Studies related to ecophysiology of D. alata may contribute to the decision making about using seedlings of this species in projects aimed at the recovery of degraded areas where seasonal flooding happens. This study aimed to assess the effects of flooding on photosynthetic and antioxidant metabolism and quality of D. alata seedlings cultivated or not under flooding during four assessment periods (0, 20, 40, and 60 days), followed by 100 days after the end of each assessment period (0+100, 20+100, 40+100, and 60+100 days), allowing verifying the potential for post-flooding recovery. Flooded plants showed lower photosynthetic efficiency than non-flooded plants, regardless of the periods of exposure. However, this efficiency was recovered in the post-flooding, with values similar to that of the non-flooded seedlings. Moreover, the damage to FV/FM was evidenced by an increase in the period of exposure to flooding, but recovery was also observed at this stage of the photosynthetic metabolism. Seedling quality decreased under flooding, not varying between periods of exposure, but remained lower although the increase observed in the post-flooding period, with no recovery after flooding. The occurrence of hypertrophied lenticels associated with physiological changes and an efficient antioxidant enzyme system might have contributed to the survival and recovery of these seedlings. Thus, this species is sensitive to flooding stress but capable of adjusting and recovering metabolic characteristics at 100 days after the suspension of the water stress, but with no recovery in seedling quality. Thus, we suggested plasticity under the cultivation condition and determined that the time of 100 days is not enough for the complete resumption of growth. Resumo Dipteryx alata Vogel é uma arbórea de ampla ocorrência no Cerrado, se estabelecendo preferencialmente em solos bem drenados. Estudos referentes à ecofisiologia de D. alata em podem contribuir para a tomada de decisão sobre o uso de mudas dessa espécie em programas de recuperação de áreas degradadas sujeitas a alagamento temporário. Objetivamos com essa pesquisa avaliar os efeitos do alagamento no metabolismo fotossintético e antioxidante, além da qualidade de mudas dessa espécie, cultivadas ou não sob alagamento durante quatro períodos de avaliação (0, 20, 40 e 60 dias) seguidos de 100 dias após o término de cada período (0+100, 20+100, 40+100, 60+100 dias), possibilitando verificar o potencial de recuperação pós-alagamento. Observamos que as plantas alagadas apresentaram menor eficiência fotossintética e danos em FV/FM entretanto houve recuperação dessas características no pós alagamento. A qualidade das mudas reduziu sob alagamento não variando entre os períodos de exposição e embora tenha aumentado no pós-alagamento manteve-se menor não se recuperando. A ocorrência de lenticelas hipertrofiadas associadas a alterações fisiológicas e um eficiente sistema enzimático antioxidante devem ter contribuído para a sobrevivência e recuperação metabólica dessas mudas. Diante disso, sugerimos que a espécie é sensível ao estresse por alagamento, mas capaz de se ajustar e recuperar as características metabólicas 100 dias após a suspensão deste estresse hídrico, no entanto a qualidade da mudas não apresentou recuperação, assim, sugerimos plasticidade diante da condição de cultivo e ressaltamos que o tempo de 100 dias não é suficiente para a completa retomada do crescimento.

Baru, a Brazilian Cerrado native fruit, stands out for its high nutritional value. Considering that reports about its technological potential are scant, this study aimed to add value to the processing chain. For that, ethanol and isopropanol were evaluated in terms of their suitability to solubilize baru nut oil (BNO), extract baru nut cake oil (BNCO), and obtain a protein-rich defatted flour. The BNO solubility in alcohols was adequately described by nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) parameters, and the highest solubilization capacity was achieved with absolute isopropanol. Alcoholic extraction did not affect the BNCO tocopherol content (80-112 mg/kg oil) or its fatty acid composition. Both protein solubility and thermal stability were negatively affected by solvent hydration, temperature, and contact stages. However, the materials exhibited adequate water and oil absorption capacities (3.5 and 1 g/g sample), as well as improved foaming capacity and stability, confirming their potential for use in several food formulations.

This study aimed to determine the basic density of the wood and to simulate the performance of flooring produced with wood from five tropical species: Dipteryx odorata (Cumaru), Handroanthus spp. (Ipê), Hymenaea Courbaril (Jatobá), Astronium Lecointei (Muiracatiara), and Bowdichia virgilioides (Sucupira-Preta). Falling steel sphere, static and dynamic friction, indentation caused by loads applied in small areas, rolling load, and abrasiveness impact tests were simulated. The results were subjected to analysis of variance and Tukey’s test at 5% significance, and Pearson’s correlation was performed between the basic density and the indexes of each flooring. The basic density of the wood flooring made from the evaluated species ranged from 0.735 to 0.958 g.cm-3. D. odorata, Handroanthus spp. and H. courbaril woods were classified as heavy, while those of A. Lecointei and B. Virgilioides as moderately heavy. It was possible to indicate D. odorata, Handroanthus spp., H. courbaril, and B. Virgilioides flooring for environments with intense traffic where there is dragging or falling objects such as industries and companies. The A. Lecointei flooring can be used in residential environments with light traffic, where the loads exerted are low. There was a correlation between the basic wood density and the flooring use simulation tests. RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a densidade básica da madeira e simular o comportamento em uso de pisos maciços produzidos com madeiras de cinco espécies tropicais: Dipteryx odorata (cumaru), Handroanthus spp. (ipê), Hymenaea courbaril (jatobá), Astronium lecointei (muiracatiara) e Bowdichia virgilioides (sucupira-preta). Nos testes de simulação foram realizados os ensaios de impacto da esfera de aço cadente, de atrito estático e dinâmico, de endentação causada por cargas aplicadas em pequenas áreas, de carga rolante e de abrasividade. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste de Tukey, a 5% de significância, e realizou-se a correlação de Pearson entre a densidade básica e os índices de cada ensaio de simulação de pisos. A densidade básica dos pisos de madeira das espécies avaliadas variou de 0,735 a 0,958 g·cm-3, sendo as madeiras de D. odorata, Handroanthus spp. e H. courbaril classificadas como pesadas e as de A. lecointei e B. virgilioides como moderadamente pesadas. Foi possível indicar os pisos de D. odorata, Handroanthus spp., H. courbaril e B. virgilioides para ambientes com tráfego intenso, onde há o arraste ou a queda de objetos, como indústrias e empresas. Já o piso de A. lecointei pode ser utilizado em ambientes residenciais, com tráfego leve, onde as cargas exercidas sejam baixas. Houve correlação entre a densidade básica da madeira e os ensaios de simulação dos pisos em uso.

N-fixing leguminous species can reach atmospheric dinitrogen gas (N2), having an advantage under N-limited degraded environments. These N-fixers are constantly used as facilitative species. Chlorophyll a fluorescence (ChF) acknowledges how different species take up and use light energy during photosynthesis. These techniques assess stress and performance responses to photosynthesis and are used for the selection of species with potential for reforestation. Six Fabaceae species were selected for this study: three nonfixing species (Cenostigma tocantinum, Senna reticulata and Dipteryx odorata) and three N-fixing species (Clitoria fairchildiana, Inga edulis and Acacia spp.). Variations in chlorophyll fluorescence under high vs. low water and nutrient conditions were studied. Multivariate analysis was performed to detect the effects of seasonality and fertilization on dark-adapted ChF two years after the experiment was established. The correlation among ChF variables and growth, photosynthesis and foliar nutrient concentrations was evaluated. Under high water- and nutrient-availability conditions, plants exhibited an enhanced performance index on absorption basis values correlated with electron transport fluxes. Under drought and nutrient-poor conditions, most species exhibit increased energy dissipation as photoprotection. High interspecific variation was found; therefore, species-specific responses should be considered in future ChF studies. Corroborating the ability to colonize high-light environments, N-fixers showed an increased performance index correlated with electron transport and Zn and N foliar concentrations. Negative correlations were found between photosynthesis and trapped fluxes. Diameter growth was positively correlated with electron transport fluxes. Given the different responses among species, ChF is an effective technique to screen for seasonality, fertilization and species effects and should be considered for use during forest restoration. Finally, the addition of fertilization treatments may facilitate tropical forest restoration due to the importance of nutrients in physiological processes. N-fixers showed high photochemical performance and tolerance to abiotic stress in degraded areas and therefore should be included to support ecosystem biomass restoration.

The remarkable phytogeographic characteristics of the Brazilian savanna (Cerrado) resulted in a vegetation domain composed of plants with high structural and functional diversity to tolerate climate extremes. Here we used a key Cerrado species (Dipteryx alata) to evaluate if species of this domain present a mechanism of stress memory, responding more quickly and efficiently when exposed to recurrent drought episodes. The exposure of D. alata seedlings to drought resulted in several changes, mainly in physiological and biochemical traits, and these changes differed substantially when the water deficit was imposed as an isolated event or when the plants were subjected to drought cycles, suggesting the existence of a drought memory mechanism. Plants submitted to recurrent drought events were able to maintain essential processes for plant survival when compared to those submitted to drought for the first time. This differential acclimation to drought was the result of orchestrated changes in several metabolic pathways, involving differential carbon allocation for defense responses and the reprogramming and coordination of primary, secondary and antioxidant metabolism. The stress memory in D. alata is probably linked the evolutionary history of the species and reflects the environment in which it evolved.

Enrichment plantings into secondary forest are an important option in restoring species diversity and ecosystem services. However, little attention has been given to environmental requirements for species performance. This study evaluated the effects of lightgaps and topographic position on the growth and survival of four native tree species (Pouteria caimito, Garcinia macrophylla, Dipteryx odorata and Cynometra bauhiniaefolia) planted into a 26-year old secondary forest originating from abandoned pastures in the central Amazon Basin. Artificial lightgaps and control plots under closed canopy were uniformly distributed on plateaus and bottomlands near water bodies. Seedlings were planted randomly into the plots and monitored for 28 months. Seedling survival rate was high (93%) and did not differ among species. Overall, lightgaps produced a 38% increase in seedling height relative to the controls. Although the four species naturally occur in mature forest, two of the four grew significantly more in lightgaps than in closed canopy secondary forest. Overall, bottomlands facilitated greater seedling growth in height (38%) relative to plateaus, but only one species exhibited a significant increase. This study shows the importance of the environmental variability generated with canopy openings along the topographic gradient, suggesting that both the selection of species and microsite conditions of planting sites have to be considered important criteria in the recovery of degraded areas. RESUMO O plantio de enriquecimento em florestas secundárias é uma opção para restaurar a diversidade de espécies e os serviços ecossistêmicos. No entanto, pouca atenção tem sido dada aos requerimentos ambientais para o melhor desempenho das espécies. Este estudo avaliou os efeitos de clareiras e posição topográfica sobre o crescimento e sobrevivência de quatro espécies arbóreas nativas (Pouteria caimito, Garcinia macrophylla, Dipteryx odorata and Cynometra bauhiniaefolia) plantadas em florestas secundárias oriundas de pastagens abandonadas há 26 anos na Amazônia central. Clareiras artificiais e parcelas de controle sob dossel fechado foram distribuídos uniformemente em platôs e baixios. Mudas foram plantadas aleatoriamente nas parcelas e monitoradas por 28 meses. A taxa de sobrevivência das plântulas foi alta (93%) e não houve diferenças entre as espécies. Entre todas as espécies, houve um incremento de 38% na altura das plântulas em comparação com os controles. Embora as quatro espécies ocorram naturalmente em florestas maduras, duas das quatro cresceram significativamente mais em clareiras do que sob dossel fechado. Entre todas as espécies, plântulas tiveram um maior crescimento em altura (38%) nos baixios que nos platôs, mas apenas uma espécie apresentou um aumento significativo. Este estudo mostra a importância da variabilidade ambiental gerada com aberturas do dossel ao longo do gradiente topográfico, sugerindo que, tanto a seleção de espécies como as condições microambientais deveriam ser considerados como critérios importantes na recuperação de áreas degradadas.

Therefore, this study aimed to identify the chemical composition of the pulp of the Brazilian Savanna fruit Dipteryx alata, evaluate its toxic effects, influence on the life expectancy of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, and its antioxidant activities in vitro and in vivo, and describe the mechanisms involved. The chemical compounds identified include phenols, terpenes, fatty acid derivatives, vitamins, and a carboxylic acid. The in vitro antioxidant activity was demonstrated by radical scavenging methods. In vivo, the D. alata fruit pulp was not toxic and promoted resistance to oxidative stress in nematodes exposed to a chemical oxidizing agent. Furthermore, it promoted an increased life expectancy in wild-type nematodes and increased the expression of superoxide dismutase and the nuclear translocation of DAF-16. These results suggest that the beneficial effects identified are related to these two genes, which are involved in the regulation of metabolic activities, the control of oxidative stress, and the lifespan of C. elegans. These beneficial effects, which may be related to its chemical constituents, demonstrate its potential use as a functional and/or nutraceutical food.

Developing tools for the genetic identification of Dipteryx species and their geographical origin can help to promote legal trading of timber. A collection of 800 individual trees, belonging to 6 different Dipteryx species, was genotyped based on 171 molecular markers. After the exclusion of markers out of Hardy Weinberg equilibrium or with no polymorphism or low amplification, 83 nuclear, 29 chloroplast, 13 mitochondrial single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and 2 chloroplast and 5 mitochondrial INDELS remained. Six genetic groups were identified using Bayesian Structure analyses of the nuclear SNPs, which corresponded to the different Dipteryx species collected in the field. Seventeen highly informative markers were identified as suitable for species identification and obtained self-assignment success rates to species level of 78-96%. An additional set of 15 molecular markers was selected to determine the different genetic clusters found in Dipteryx odorata and Dipteryx ferrea, obtaining self-assignment success rates of 91-100%. The success to assign samples to the correct country of origin using all or only the informative markers improved when using the nearest neighbor approach (69-92%) compared to the Bayesian approach (33-80%). While nuclear and chloroplast SNPs were more suitable for differentiating the different Dipteryx species, mitochondrial SNPs were ideal for determining the genetic clusters of D. odorata and D. ferrea. These 32 selected SNPs will be invaluable genetic tools for the accurate identification of species and country of origin of Dipteryx timber. Os sistemas agroflorestais (SAFs) promovem a sustentabilidade do agroecossistema através das interações energéticas e da ciclagem de nutrientes por meio da produção e decomposição de biomassa sobre o solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a decomposição foliar de espécies utilizadas na adubação verde e de interesse econômico em sistemas agroflorestais. O estudo foi realizado no SAF experimental da Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará (UFOPA). Analisou-se a decomposição foliar de seis espécies, sendo cacau (Theobroma cacao L.), cumaru (Dipteryx odorata (Aubl.) Forsyth) e pimenta-do-reino (Piper nigrum L.) consideradas de interesse econômico e feijão-de-porco (Canavalia ensiformis (L.) DC.), gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.) Walp.) e guandú (Cajanus cajan (L.) Huth) consideradas espécies de adubação verde. Para acompanhar a decomposição, utilizou-se o método de litter bags com o experimento alocado nos períodos mais chuvoso e menos chuvoso. Os dados de massa foliar remanescente foram analisados estatisticamente pelo teste Tukey e ajustados por meio de equação não-linear para obtenção da constante de decomposição (k) e tempo de meia-vida (t1/2). As espécies apontadas para adubação verde apresentaram as maiores de taxas de decomposição ao final do experimento, nas quais a gliricidia e feijão de porco obtiveram as maiores taxas. Dentre as espécies escolhidas por interesse econômico, a pimenta do reino apresentou retorno de nutrientes ao solo superiores as espécies cumaru e cacau. O período seco obteve perda de massa mais lenta que o período chuvoso.

There is a high international demand for timber from the genus Dipteryx, or “shihuahuaco” as it is known in Peru. Developing tools that allow the identification and discrimination of Dipteryx species is therefore important for supporting management of natural populations and to underpin legal trade of its timber. The objective of this study was the molecular characterization of Dipteryx species in the Peruvian Amazonia. Two plastid regions (cpDNA: trnH–psbA and matK) were sequenced and 11 microsatellite markers (nDNA) were genotyped for 32 individuals identified as Dipteryx charapilla, D. micrantha morphotype 1 and D. micrantha morphotype 2. Using the concatenated sequences of the plastid genes, we identified ten haplotypes that were not shared between the species or between the D. micrantha morphotypes. Haplotypic diversity was greater in D. micrantha morphotype 2 and D. charapilla than in D. micrantha morphotype 1, which presented only one haplotype with a wide distribution in Peru. The microsatellites allowed the discrimination of the same three clades and identified diagnostic alleles for each clade. These results allowed us to demonstrate that the two morphotypes of D. micrantha are different at both the plastid and nuclear markers, which supports the existence of three genetically distinct species in Peru. This study provides information for the genetic discrimination of Dipteryx species and emphasises the importance of conserving the genetic variability of this genus in the Peruvian Amazonia.
