Many people from various communities still do not understand the value of tempeh as a healthy food item. Therefore, to improve the public knowledge about the nutritional values of tempeh, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia chose the community of Bhayangkari women from Ranting, Kelapa Dua, Depok, as the target partners in the community service program. This community, which consisted of housewives of police officers, was considered the right target because they had the role of providing healthy food for their families. In addition to providing knowledge about the importance of consuming tempeh as healthy food, the team also trained the community to produce hygienic tempeh. The activities included three stages, i.e., preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The program preparation involved the registration of the participants, the preparation of the seminar materials, and the procurement of materials and tools for the tempeh production. Next, the implementation stage consisted of education and training activities conducted via WhatsApp (WA) and Zoom meetings. Finally, the monitoring and evaluation stage was conducted via WA to assess the tempeh production process. Through this community service program, it is evident that all the participants could be trained on how to make hygienic tempeh easily. The guidelines to produce tempeh were also easy to understand and readily available for public use. Overall, the participants became more aware of the health benefits of tempeh.

Budi daya jamur kuping sangat berpotensi untuk dilakukan di Indonesia. Kondisi lingkungan yang mendukung, ditambah tingginya minat beli masyarakat akan jamur kuping membuat bisnis jual beli jamur kuping menjadi cukup menjanjikan. Namun, kurangnya pemahaman masyarakat tentang manfaat serta cara melakukan budi daya jamur kuping, membuat petani jamur kuping di Indonesia sangat sedikit, khususnya di wilayah Indonesia Timur. Kegiatan pelatihan budi daya jamur kuping ini diharapkan dapat menjadi salah satu solusi untuk meningkatkan minat masyarakat Indonesia, khususnya di Manokwari, Papua, dalam berbudidaya jamur kuping. Kegiatan pengabdian budi daya jamur kuping terdiri atas 4 tahap, yaitu tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan pelatihan online, pelaksanaan pelatihan offline, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Tahap persiapan terdiri atas pembuatan poster dan materi presentasi, serta persiapan bahan dan alat yang digunakan dalam penyuluhan online dan offline. Pada tahap pelaksanaan pelatihan online via zoom, peserta dijelaskan metode budi daya jamur kuping dalam bentuk slide presentasi dan video. Satu bulan kemudian, tahap pelaksanaan pelatihan offline dilakukan selama 8 hari di Manokwari, Papua. Peserta diajarkan secara langsung teknik dasar dalam budi daya jamur kuping. Monitoring dan evaluasi kegiatan ini dipantau selama beberapa bulan hingga proses panen berhasil. Melalui kegiatan ini, peserta binaan yang mengikuti secara online maupun offline dapat memahami metode budi daya jamur. Peserta offline dari Manokwari dapat melangsungkan proses budi daya jamur kuping hingga berhasil panen 100 % setelah melalui pelatihan. Teknik pendampingan dan metode budi daya jamur kuping pada kegiatan dinilai berhasil dan dapat dilakukan pada berbagai lapisan masyarakat di Indonesia.

This study evaluated the effects of an aqueous extract of Caulerpa racemosa (AEC) on cardiometabolic syndrome markers, and the modulation of the gut microbiome in mice administered a cholesterol- and fat-enriched diet (CFED). Four groups of mice received different treatments: normal diet, CFED, and CFED added with AEC extract at 65 and 130 mg/kg body weight (BW). The effective concentration (EC50) values of AEC for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and lipase inhibition were lower than those of the controls in vitro. In the mice model, the administration of high-dose AEC showed improved lipid and blood glucose profiles and a reduction in endothelial dysfunction markers (PRMT-1 and ADMA). Furthermore, a correlation between specific gut microbiomes and biomarkers associated with cardiometabolic diseases was also observed. In vitro studies highlighted the antioxidant properties of AEC, while in vivo data demonstrated that AEC plays a role in the management of cardiometabolic syndrome via regulation of oxidative stress, inflammation, endothelial function (PRMT-1/DDAH/ADMA pathway), and gut microbiota.

Tempe is a fermented food from Indonesia. However, certain people still have a limited understanding of tempeh as a healthy food. In addition, how to produce hygienic tempe and how the potential of tempe as a family business is still limited. Cibogo Village is a location in the District of Cisauk-Tangerang. In Cibogo there is no tempe production business, and the people's understanding of tempe food is still very limited. Therefore, this activity aims to increase public knowledge about tempe as healthy food and how to make it hygienic. This community service activity is carried out using counseling, demonstration, and mentoring methods. Monitoring was carried out to measure the success rate of participants in producing healthy tempeh. Participants' perceptions of tempeh were evaluated through a survey method, and the increase in knowledge was measured through tests (pretest and posttest). The counseling, demonstration, and mentoring results improved the participants' skills, as seen in their success in making tempeh. The survey results showed increased participants' knowledge about tempeh as a healthy food. The participants have also been able to produce healthy tempeh independently. The survey results also show that the activities carried out benefit them. The facilitator's ability to deliver the training materials was considered reasonable by the participants. Several participants are interested in increasing this activity to produce tempe for a business scale further ABSTRAK Tempe merupakan makanan fermentasi asal Indonesia. Namun, masyarakat tertentu masih terbatas pemahamannya tentang tempe sebagai makan yang sehat. Selain itu, bagaimana cara memproduksi tempe yang higienis dan bagaimana potensi tempe sebagai bisnis keluarga masih terbatas. Desa Cibogo merupakan satu lokasi yang berada di Kecamatan Cisauk-Tangerang. Di Cibogo belum ada usaha produksi tempe dan pemahaman tentang makanan tempe masih sangat terbatas. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang tempe sebagai makanan sehat dan cara pembuatannya higienis. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan dalam menggunakan metode penyuluhan, demonstrasi, dan pendampingan. Monitoring dilakukan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan peserta dalam memproduksi tempe sehat. Persepsi peserta tentang tempe diukur melalui metode survei dan peningkatan pengetahuan melalui tes (pretest dan posttest). Hasil penyuluhan, demonstrasi, dan pendampingan berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan para peserta terlihat dari keberhasilan mereka dalam membuat tempe. Hasil survei menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta tentang tempe sebagai makanan sehat. Para peserta juga telah dapat memproduksi tempe sehat secara mandiri. Dari hasil survey juga menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan sangat bermanfaat bagi mereka. kemampuan fasilitator dalam menyampaikan materi pelatihan yang dinilai baik oleh para peserta. Ada beberapa peserta yang berminat untuk meningkatkan kegiatan ini untuk lebih lanjut memproduksi tempe untuk skala bisnis

Tofu is a traditional Indonesian food that has many advantages and is made with a very simple manufacturing process. However, knowledge about tofu and the process of making hygienic and healthy tofu is still low in Indonesia. Therefore, the present community service aims to improve public knowledge about tofu as a healthy food and how tofu is made. The community service activities were implemented to residents of the WKRI at Paroki St. Ignatius Loyola, Semplak, Bogor 16310, which consisted of counseling, demonstration, and mentoring methods. Monitoring was conducted to measure the level of success achieved by participants in producing healthy tofu. Participants' perceptions about tofu were evaluated through a survey method and improving knowledge was measured through tests (pretest and posttest). The results of counseling, demonstration, and mentoring succeeded in improving the participants' skills as evidenced by their success in making hygienic and healthy tofu. The survey results showed participants' improving knowledge about hygienic and healthy tofu and participants’ higher motivation to produce hygienic and healthy tofu independently. All participants appreciated the community service activities. They also appreciated the exceptional ability of the facilitator in delivering the materials.

Post-transplantation nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is common in liver transplant recipients. Changes in the expression levels and activities of drug-metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters have been reported in patients with NAFLD and relevant rodent models. Here, we evaluated whether the pharmacokinetics of mycophenolic acid (MPA), an immunosuppressant, would be altered in rats with NAFLD. NAFLD was induced by feeding a diet containing 1% (w/w) orotic acid for 20 days. The extent of hepatic glucuronidation of MPA to a major metabolite, mycophenolic acid-7-O-glucuronide (MPAG), did not differ between rats with NAFLD and controls. The expression levels of hepatic multidrug resistance-associated protein 2, responsible for biliary excretion of MPAG, were comparable in rats with NAFLD and controls; the biliary excretion of MPAG was also similar in the two groups. Compared with control rats, rats with NAFLD did not exhibit significant changes in the areas under the plasma concentration – time curves of MPA or MPAG after intravenous (5 mg/kg) or oral (10 mg/kg) administration of MPA. However, delayed oral absorption of MPA was observed in rats with NAFLD compared with controls; the MPA and MPAG peak plasma concentrations fell significantly and the times to achieve them were prolonged following oral administration of MPA.

Jamur tiram merupakan salah satu komoditas pangan yang diminati oleh masyarakat Indonesia. Permintaan jamur tiram terus meningkat setiap tahunnya, sehingga kebutuhannya belum terpenuhi secara maksimal. Masalah yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat ialah kurangnya pemahaman tentang budi daya jamur tiram. Selain itu masih ada masyarakat yang ingin menambah penghasilan dalam rumah tangga. Solusi yang dapat ditawarkan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut ialah memberikan pengetahuan tentang budi daya jamur tiram, dan mengarahkan masyarakat untuk menambah penghasilan keluarga dengan budi daya jamur tiram skala rumah tangga. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan melalui tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, monitoring dan evaluasi. Persiapan pengabdian diawali dengan pembelian alat dan bahan untuk praktik budi daya jamur tiram, serta persiapan materi untuk workshop daring. Peserta melakukan pendaftaran sebelum kegiatan workshop berlangsung. Tahapan pelaksanaan pengabdian menggunakan media zoom meeting. Sementara itu, tahapan monitoring dan evaluasi dilakukan dari proses budi daya jamur tiram sampai dengan peserta berhasil melakukan budi daya jamur secara mandiri. Monitoring dan evaluasi dilakukan dengan sarana komunikasi WhatsApp Group. Workshop budi daya jamur dihadiri oleh 53 orang peserta. Kegiatan workshop memberikan manfaat dan pemahaman baru bagi peserta mulai dari karakteristik jamur, manfaat jamur bagi kesehatan, habitat, media tanam, cara budi daya dan penanganan pasca panennya. Sebanyak 17 orang peserta berhasil dengan sukses melakukan budi daya jamur tiram secara mandiri. Kegiatan budi daya jamur tiram berpotensi sebagai usaha untuk meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat dan dapat dijadikan kegiatan untuk mengisi waktu luang selama masa Covid-19.

Climate change is a hot topic and attracts great attention because it causes a series of side effects for the environment and living organisms in the world. Microorganisms are involved in many processes in nature that can affect climate change, including the complex cycle of phosphorus, sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon. Microorganisms also play a role in producing and reducing greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. In addition, microorganisms can respond positively or negatively to temperature. Understanding the activity of microorganisms is very important to know their functions and uses in the development of technologies that can combat climate change itself. Currently, the general public does not yet know the functions and uses of microorganisms to combat climate change. In collaboration with the American Society for Microbiology and Nutrienvisus Technologies, the Faculty of Biology, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, conducts community service activities through online seminars on the role of microorganisms in climate change. Seminars are held online using the Zoom conference app. The participants in this activity were 210 people, including twenty-three high school students, seventy-six students, one housewife, seventy-two lecturers, four private employees, fourteen civil servants, and ten researchers. The forms of activities carried out were the presentation of the material, question and answer sessions, and the provision of questionnaires to the participants before and after the presentation of the material. The materials given are Soil Microbiomes and Climate Changes and Bacterial Ice Nucleation, and Air Microbiology. Speakers provide material based on the literature and the results of research that has been done. Questionnaires were administered online using the Mentimeter and Kahoot apps. The questionnaire results showed an increase in participants' understanding of the role of microorganisms in climate changeABSTRAK:Perubahan iklim menjadi topik yang menarik perhatian yang besar karena menyebabkan serangkaian efek samping bagi lingkungan maupun organisme hidup di dunia. Mikroorganisme terlibat pada banyak proses di alam yang dapat mempengaruhi perubahan iklim antara lain siklus kompleks fosfor, sulfur, nitrogen, oksigen dan karbon. Mikrooganisme juga berperan dalam menghasilkan dan mengurangi gas rumah kaca seperti karbon dioksida dan metana. Selain itu, mikroorganisme dapat memberikan respon positif maupun negatif terhadap suhu. Memahami aktivitas mikrooganisme sangat penting untuk mengetahui fungsi dan kegunaan dalam pengembangan teknologi yang dapat memerangi perubahan iklim itu sendiri. Saat ini, masyarakat umum belum mengetahui fungsi dan kegunaan mikroorganisme sebagai teknologi dalam memerangi perubahan iklim. Bekerja sama dengan American Society for Microbiology dan Nutrienvisus Technologies, Fakultas Teknobiologi Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya melakukan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat (PKM) melalui seminar secara daring mengenai peran mikroorganisme dengan perubahan iklim. Seminar diadakan secara daring menggunakan aplikasi konferensi Zoom. Peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan ini sejumlah 210 orang meliputi 23 orang siswa SMA, 76 orang mahasiswa, 1 orang ibu rumah tangga, 72 orang dosen, 4 orang karyawan swasta, 14 orang PNS, dan 10 orang peneliti. Bentuk kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah pemaparan materi, sesi tanya jawab, dan pemberian kuesioner kepada para peserta sebelum dan sesudah pemaparan materi. Materi yang diberikan adalah Soil Microbiomes and Climate Changes dan Bacterial Ice Nucleation and Air Microbiology. Pembicara memberikan materi berdasarkan literatur dan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukannya. Kuesioner diberikan secara daring menggunakan aplikasi Mentimeter dan Kahoot. Hasil kuesioner menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap peran mikroorganisme terhadap perubahan iklim
