O presente trabalho fornece um panorama geral sobre o conhecimento da paleoentomologia brasileira até o presente, abordando insetos do Paleozoico, Mesozoico e Cenozoico, incluindo a atualização das espécies publicadas até o momento após a última grande revisão bibliográfica, mencionando ainda as unidades geológicas em que ocorrem e os trabalhos relacionados.

Abstract An animal model was applied to develop erosive tooth wear (ETW) and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4) in preventing ETW. Forty-eight male Wistar rats were divided into three groups (n = 16): TiF4 (2.45% F−), NaF (2.45% F−) and placebo varnishes. Eight from each group were subjected to erosive challenges (Sprite Zero) and the other received tap water, both ad libitum. After twenty-eight days, the mandibles were resected for histopathological gingival analysis, clinical and microscopic tooth evaluation by 3D confocal laser microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) and micro-Raman spectroscopy (MRS). Organs were evaluated with respect to fluoride content. No significant difference was found in F content in tissues. No histopathological damage was seen in gingiva. Constitui-se do estudo geográfico e descritivo sobre a região do Rio das Antas.

Estruturas de inversores integrados vêm sendo amplamente adotados na interface de fontes de energia elétrica em CC com aplicações em CA. Desta forma, este trabalho contribui com estudos acerca do inversor Ćuk integrado (ICI) monofásico, apresentando a modelagem da estrutura, além de uma nova estratégia de comutação para os interruptores de potência. O ICI é projetado para operar no modo de condução descontinua, bem como para atuar de forma autônoma, a fim de fornecer tensão senoidal e controlada para cargas locais em CA. A partir da modelagem em espaço de estados, é obtida a função de transferência do inversor, bem como projetado o controlador de tensão. O ICI se destaca por: i) empregar menor número de componentes; ii) operar somente com um interruptor em alta frequência; iii) ser capaz de elevar a tensão de entrada e fornecer uma tensão senoidal de forma simultânea. Por meio de resultados de simulações computacionais e experimentais, a viabilidade do ICI é avaliada e validada. Os testes experimentais demonstram que o ICI possui elevado rendimento e é capaz de fornecer uma tensão senoidal com baixa distorção harmônica.

Este artigo tem por objetivo identificar as dimensões do processo cognitivo contempladas nas atividades presentes em um livro didático do 5º ano, em relação a unidade temática probabilidade e estatística, para desvelar suas potencialidades para o desenvolvimento cognitivo dos alunos. As análises foram fundamentadas na Taxionomia de Bloom e as dimensões do processo cognitivo estruturadas nessa teoria. A pesquisa é bibliográfica e segue uma abordagem qualitativa. Nesse estudo ficou evidente que dimensões menos complexas do processo cognitivo foram priorizadas e que outras dimensões precisavam de maior suporte para um melhor aproveitamento. Diante do que foi evidenciado é importante ressaltar o papel do professor que ensina Matemática em reconhecer as dimensões do processo cognitivo que cada questão pode desenvolver e de preencher lacunas que possam se tornar obstáculos para o desenvolvimento cognitivo dos estudantes.

The objective of the research was to analyze the scientific production regarding accident prevention in early child rearing institutions. An integrative literature review, referring to the years between 2011 and 2021, whose research was carried out in May 2021 in seven information resources, raised the following issue: it was found that not all educators considered their knowledge about accident prevention satisfactory. However, most of them had already witnessed cases of injuries of this nature at schools. The first aid actions of these professionals were sometimes inefficient and many of them were not able to perform it due to the lack of appropriate materials and/or training to handle them, showing a need for qualification. The findings show weaknesses related to the knowledge and training of professionals from day care centres and preschools about accident prevention and first aid in early child rearing institutions, which makes a health-education interface crucial.

Este trabalho investigou as potencialidades pedagógicas da obra “Quarto de Despejo: diário de uma favelada”, de Carolina Maria de Jesus, para o ensino de ciências da natureza. De modo geral, objetivou investigar contribuições da problematização de temas sociocientíficos emergentes da obra. De modo específico possui os seguintes objetivos: a) Identificar a presença de temas sociocientíficos na obra “Quarto de Despejo: diário de uma favelada”; b) Analisar possibilidades de uso e produção de podcast para a abordagem de temas sociocientíficos no contexto do ensino; c)Avaliar as contribuições dos temas sociocientíficos emergentes da obra “Quarto de Despejo: diário de uma favelada” para o ensino de ciências. Do ponto de vista metodológico, este estudo consiste numa investigação de natureza qualitativa do tipo exploratória, com foco na produção de uma sequência didática baseada na problematização de temas sociocientíficos. Para a realização deste trabalho, foram desenvolvidas 4 etapas: a) Leitura do livro “Quarto de Despejo: diário de uma favelada”; b) Levantamento dos excertos que retratam temáticas de ciências emergentes da obra; c) Estudo sobre produção e utilização de podcasts no ensino; d) Elaboração de uma proposta de sequência didática para trabalhar os escritos de Carolina por meio da produção de podcasts.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a hiperbilirrubinemia como indicador para a realização do protocolo de risco na triagem auditiva neonatal (TAN) e no monitoramento auditivo em neonatos a termo e prematuros. Método Trata-se de um estudo observacional, transversal e retrospectivo. Foram incluídas 554 crianças nascidas em uma maternidade pública, subdivididas em dois grupos: (G1) com 373 recém-nascidos a termo; (G2) com 181 neonatos prematuros. Os dados foram coletados nos prontuários dos participantes, a fim de se obter informações referentes ao resultado da TAN realizada por meio do registro do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Tronco Encefálico, às condições de nascimento, características clínicas, intervenções realizadas, resultados do primeiro exame de bilirrubina total (BT) e bilirrubina indireta (BI) e do pico de BT e BI. Realizou-se análise estatística descritiva e inferencial dos dados, com adoção do nível de significância de 5%. Resultados No teste da TAN, foram observadas taxas de encaminhamento para reteste inferiores no G1 em relação ao G2. Não houve diferença entre os grupos quanto à ocorrência do tipo de parto, sexo, presença de incompatibilidade sanguínea Rh e ABO, deficiência de enzima G6PD e realização de fototerapia. Em relação aos níveis de BT e BI no primeiro exame e no momento do pico, não houve diferenças entre os neonatos com resultado “passa” e “falha” na TAN-teste nos dois grupos. Conclusão Os níveis de bilirrubina no período neonatal abaixo dos valores recomendados para indicação de exsanguineotransfusão não estão diretamente relacionados ao resultado “falha” na TAN em neonatos a termo e prematuros.

In recent years, distributed generation systems based on renewable energy sources have gained increasing prominence. Thus, the DC/AC converters based on power electronics devices have become increasingly important. In this context, this article presents an integrated Zeta inverter for low-power conditions, which operates in continuous conduction mode (CCM), achieving efficiency greater than 95%. The proposed topology is composed of four power switches, two operating at high frequency and two operating at low frequency, i.e., at the output frequency. Compared with the topologies in the literature, these configurations make it a competitive solution from the point of view of efficiency, number of elements, and, consequently, implementation cost. The proposed converter operates as a sinusoidal voltage source for local loads and is supplied by a DC source, such as batteries or a photovoltaic array. A multi-resonant voltage controller was used to guarantee the sinusoidal voltage provided to the non-linear load while dealing with the complex dynamics of the Zeta converter in the CCM. Experimental results from a 324 W prototype show the converter’s implementation feasibility and the high efficiency of the DC/AC conversion.

Abstract Fluoride is added to water due to its anticariogenic activity. However, due to its natural presence in soils and reservoirs at high levels, it could be a potential environmental toxicant. This study investigated whether prolonged exposure to fluoride from adolescence to adulthood—at concentrations commonly found in artificially fluoridated water and in fluorosis endemic areas—is associated with memory and learning impairments in mice, and assessed the molecular and morphological aspects involved. For this endeavor, 21-days-old mice received 10 or 50 mg/L of fluoride in drinking water for 60 days and the results indicated that the increased plasma fluoride bioavailability was associated with the triggering of short- and long-term memory impairments after high F concentration levels. These changes were associated with modulation of the hippocampal proteomic profile, especially of proteins related to synaptic communication, and a neurodegenerative pattern in the CA3 and DG. From a translational perspective, our data provide evidence of potential molecular targets of fluoride neurotoxicity in the hippocampus at levels much higher than that in artificially fluoridated water and reinforce the safety of exposure to low concentrations of fluoride. In conclusion, prolonged exposure to the optimum fluoride level of artificially fluoridated water was not associated with cognitive impairments, while a higher concentration associated with fluorosis triggered memory and learning deficits, associated with a neuronal density reduction in the hippocampus.

O presente estudo, de abordagem quali-quantitativa, descreveu o perfil de alunos com altas habilidades/superdotação (AH/SD). Participaram dele onze alunos, dez pais e sete professores. Foram utilizados como instrumentos: Lista de itens para observação em sala de aula; Teste de Raven; WISC-III; Teste de Desempenho Escolar (TDE); Notas escolares; Escala para Avaliação das Características Comportamentais dos Alunos com Habilidades Superiores (SRBCSS) e Checklist de Características Associadas à Superdotação (CCAS). Dentre os instrumentos, a Lista de itens para observação em sala de aula, respondida pelos professores, mostrou-se a ferramenta mais importante na identificação de sinais de AH/SD. O desempenho acadêmico se mostrou alto nas notas escolares, mas não foi confirmado no TDE. Os pais conseguiram observar muitas características de AH/SD em seus filhos na CCAS e, os professores, na SRBCSS, identificaram mais características de criatividade, motivação e liderança. Dos critérios estabelecidos, 63% dos alunos alcançaram sete deles. Ressalta-se a importância da avaliação multimodal, pois ao definir o perfil desses alunos, pode-se encontrar suas maiores habilidades e dificuldades, propiciando um ensino mais adequado às suas necessidades.

Gastrointestinal signs and symptoms are the first signs of toxicity due to exposure to fluoride (F). This suggests the possibility that lower levels of subchronic F exposure may affect the gut. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the morphology, proteome and microbiome of the ileum of rats, after subchronic exposure to F. Male rats ingested water with 0, 10, or 50 mgF/L for thirty days. Treatment with F, regardless of the dose, significantly decreased the density of HuC/D-IR neurons, whereas CGRP-IR and SP-IR varicosities were significantly increased compared to the control group. Increased VIP-IR varicosities were significantly increased only in the group treated with 50 mgF/L. A significant increase in thickness of the tunica muscularis, as well as in the total thickness of the ileum wall was observed at both F doses when compared to controls. In proteomics analysis, myosin isoforms were increased, and Gastrotopin was decreased in F-exposed mice. In the microbiome metagenomics analysis, Class Clostridia was significantly reduced upon exposure to 10 mgF/L. At the higher F dose of 50 mg/L, genus Ureaplasma was significantly reduced in comparison with controls. Morphological and proteomics alterations induced by F were marked by changes associated with inflammation, and alterations in the gut microbiome. Further studies are needed to determine whether F exposure increases inflammation with secondary effects of the gut microbiome, and/or whether primary effects of F on the gut microbiome enhance changes associated with inflammation.

Abstract The objective of this study was to compare the protein profile of the acquired enamel pellicle (AEP) formed in vivo in patients with or without gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and with or without erosive tooth wear (ETW). Twenty-four volunteers were divided into 3 groups: 1) GERD and ETW; 2) GERD without ETW; and 3) control (without GERD). The AEP formed 120 min after prophylaxis was collected from the lingual/palatal surfaces. The samples were subjected to mass spectrometry (nLC-ESI-MS/MS) and label-free quantification by Protein Lynx Global Service software. A total of 213 proteins were identified, or 119, 92 and 106 from each group, respectively. Group 2 showed a high number of phosphorylated and calcium-binding proteins. Twenty-three proteins were found in all the groups, including 14-3-3 protein zeta/delta and 1-phosphatidylinositol. Several intracellular proteins that join saliva after the exfoliation of oral mucosa cells might have the potential to bind hydroxyapatite, or participate in forming supramolecular aggregates that bind to precursor proteins in the AEP. Proteins might play a central role in protecting the dental surface against acid dissolution.

O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar as dimensões da autoeficácia e determinar os impactos destas dimensões e do background familiar no desempenho em leitura dos estudantes do Brasil e de Portugal, que participaram da avaliação de leitura do PISA 2018. Para determinar tais dimensões (fatores), realizou-se uma Análise Fatorial Exploratória. Já o efeito das dimensões e do background familiar foi mensurado a partir de uma regressão linear múltipla. Os resultados indicam que a autoeficácia pode ser determinada por sete fatores, relacionados ao comportamento socioemocional do aluno. Além disso, concluiu-se que tanto a autoeficácia quanto o background familiar (escolaridade da mãe) afetaram positivamente o desempenho dos alunos. Logo, ressalta-se a importância do desenvolvimento de políticas públicas que promovam o desenvolvimento socioemocional dos alunos.

The potential of fluoride (F) as a neurotoxicant in humans is still controversial in the literature. However, recent studies have raised the debate by showing different mechanism of F-induced neurotoxicity, as oxidative stress, energy metabolism and inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS). In the present study, we investigated the mechanistic action of two F concentration (0.095 and 0.22 μg/ml) on gene and protein profile network using a human glial cell in vitro model over 10 days of exposure. A total of 823 genes and 2,084 genes were modulated after exposure to 0.095 and 0.22 μg/ml F, respectively. Among them, 168 were found to be modulated by both concentrations. The number of changes in protein expression induced by F were 20 and 10, respectively. Gene ontology annotations showed that the main terms were related to cellular metabolism, protein modification and cell death regulation pathways, such as the MAP kinase (MAPK) cascade, in a concentration independent manner. Proteomics confirmed the changes in energy metabolism and also provided evidence of F-induced changes in cytoskeleton components of glial cells. Our results not only reveal that F has the potential to modulate gene and protein profiles in human U87 glial-like cells overexposed to F, but also identify a possible role of this ion in cytoskeleton disorganization.

Abstract Fluoride (F) has been widely used to control dental caries, and studies suggest beneficial effects against diabetes when a low dose of F is added to the drinking water (10 mgF/L). Objectives This study evaluated metabolic changes in pancreatic islets of NOD mice exposed to low doses of F and the main pathways altered by the treatment. Methodology In total, 42 female NOD mice were randomly divided into two groups, considering the concentration of F administered in the drinking water for 14 weeks: 0 or 10 mgF/L. After the experimental period, the pancreas was collected for morphological and immunohistochemical analysis, and the islets for proteomic analysis. Results In the morphological and immunohistochemical analysis, no significant differences were found in the percentage of cells labelled for insulin, glucagon, and acetylated histone H3, although the treated group had higher percentages than the control group. Moreover, no significant differences were found for the mean percentages of pancreatic areas occupied by islets and for the pancreatic inflammatory infiltrate between the control and treated groups. Proteomic analysis showed large increases in histones H3 and, to a lesser extent, in histone acetyltransferases, concomitant with a decrease in enzymes involved in the formation of acetyl-CoA, besides many changes in proteins involved in several metabolic pathways, especially energy metabolism. The conjunction analysis of these data showed an attempt by the organism to maintain protein synthesis in the islets, even with the dramatic changes in energy metabolism. Conclusion Our data suggests epigenetic alterations in the islets of NOD mice exposed to F levels comparable to those found in public supply water consumed by humans.

Abstract The use of cocaine and its main derivative, crack, can cause some systemic effects that may lead to the development of some oral disorders. Objective To assess the oral health of people with a crack cocaine use disorder and identify salivary protein candidates for biomarkers of oral disorders. Methodology A total of 40 volunteers hospitalized for rehabilitation for crack cocaine addiction were enrolled; nine were randomly selected for proteomic analysis. Intraoral examination, report of DMFT, gingival and plaque index, xerostomia, and non-stimulated saliva collection were performed. A list of proteins identified was generated from the UniProt database and manually revised. Results The mean age (n=40) was 32 (±8.88; 18–51) years; the mean DMFT index was 16±7.70; the mean plaque and gingival index were 2.07±0.65 and 2.12±0.64, respectively; and 20 (50%) volunteers reported xerostomia. We identified 305 salivary proteins (n=9), of which 23 were classified as candidate for biomarkers associated with 14 oral disorders. The highest number of candidates for biomarkers was associated with carcinoma of head and neck (n=7) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (n=7), followed by periodontitis (n=6). Conclusions People with a crack cocaine use disorder had an increased risk of dental caries and gingival inflammation; less than half had oral mucosal alterations, and half experienced xerostomia. As possible biomarkers for 14 oral disorders, 23 salivary proteins were identified. Oral cancer and periodontal disease were the most often associated disorders with biomarkers.

Background: Music therapy (MT) appears to be a valuable complementary intervention for children diagnosed with neurodevelopmental conditions, namely, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), who often present cognitive, academic, communicative, and social difficulties. Music therapy has been increasingly recommended as a standard support service for communication and social interaction in this specific neuropediatric setting. Objective: The aim of this pilot study was to determine the recruitment and protocol feasibility of music therapy for autistic children and explore trends towards the clinical utility of the IMCAP-ND[i] quantitative measure on assessing the focus on sound receptions, joint attention, turn-taking, auditory perception, sensory integration, social interaction, entrainment, and empathy, as a preparation for a future study wherein we will pursue with an MT intervention assessment. Furthermore, here we use the European Portuguese translated version of the IMCAP-NDPT scales to contribute to its validation and adaptation. Methods: Five autistic children received a weekly music therapy session of approximately 45 minutes for six months, totaling a minimum of 20 and maximum of 24 completed sessions per child. The IMCAP-NDPT and the Griffiths Mental Development Scales (GMDS) scales were applied pre- and post-test. Results: We tested the research design and the session’s protocol. All participants completed MT intervention and showed increase in social-emotional capacities, cognitive and perception skills, and overall responsiveness. However, our results indicate a need to review the inclusion criteria concerning participants with a single diagnosis (ASD), previous contacts with musical instruments, and the application of standardized music therapy settings. Conclusions: The design and protocol were perceived as acceptable and feasible, though some improvements were suggested for subsequent original research, and the IMCAP-NDPT version was considered usable. Our initial findings suggest the potential of music therapy for autistic children. Further intervention with efficacy assessment through a larger-scale randomized trial is needed, considering the content based on pilot findings. [i] The Individual Music-Centered Assessment Profile for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (IMCAP-ND) is a criterion-referenced assessment of musical interaction, communication, cognition and perception, and responsiveness in musical-play for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders at various developmental levels and chronological ages from children to adults. It is comprised by a set of three scales: Musical Emotional Assessment Rating Scale (MEARS), Musical Cognitive/Perception Scale (MCPS) and Musical Responsiveness Scale (MRS) (Carpente, 2013).
