There are no restrictions on data availability, In oceanic ecosystems, the nature of barriers to gene flow and the processes by which populations may become isolated are different from the terrestrial environment, and less well understood. In this study we investigate a highly mobile species (the sperm whale, Physeter macrocephalus) that is genetically differentiated between an open North Atlantic population and the populations in the Mediterranean Sea. We apply high-resolution single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis to study the nature of barriers to gene flow in this system, assessing the putative boundary into the Mediterranean (Strait of Gibraltar and Alboran Sea region), and including novel analyses on structuring among sperm whale populations within the Mediterranean basin. Our data support a recent founding of the Mediterranean population, around the time of the last glacial maximum, and show concerted historical demographic profiles in both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. In each region there is evidence for a population decline around the time of the founder event. The largest decline was seen within the Mediterranean Sea where effective population size is substantially lower (especially in the eastern basin). While differentiation is strongest at the Atlantic/Mediterranean boundary, there is also weaker but significant differentiation between the eastern and western basins of the Mediterranean Sea. We propose, however, that the mechanisms are different. While post-founding gene flow was reduced between the Mediterranean and Atlantic populations, within the Mediterranean an important factor differentiating the basins is probably a greater degree of admixture between the western basin and the North Atlantic and some level of isolation between the western and eastern Mediterranean basins. This article compares the Portuguese and the Spanish simplified tax regimes (STRs) with regard to personal income taxation. In Portugal, the regime has become more equitable and increasingly uses information technology. In Spain, the modular regime is complex and could occasion evasion. Accordingly, Spain should consider abandoning its current STR.

O presente estudo foca-se na tributação autónoma das sociedades em Portugal (doravante TA), que incide sobre determinados encargos das sociedades, nos termos do Código do Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Coletivas (abreviadamente designado CIRC). A TA tem sido alvo de constante litígio entre a Administração Tributária (abreviadamente designada AT) e as sociedades, o que revela a sua complexidade, e o que justifica a pertinência da presente investigação. Através de um estudo de perceção dos contabilistas certificados (doravante CC), aos quais se aplicou um inquérito por questionário, e recorrendo-se a uma amostra de 945 inquiridos, concluiu-se que os CC inquiridos consideram, na sua maioria, que existe uma diversidade excessiva de taxas de TA, bem como reconhecem que as regras da TA exigem uma excessiva preparação da informação contabilística e fiscal. A análise efetuada veio ainda confirmar que, à medida que aumenta a experiência dos CC inquiridos, maior é a sua perceção acerca dos conflitos judiciais entre os contribuintes e a AT. De igual modo, os resultados permitiram aferir que, à medida que aumenta o número de sociedades pelas quais os CC são responsáveis, maior é a sua perceção sobre o grau de dificuldade de interpretação das regras da TA.

O E-Learning corresponde a um modelo de ensino não presencial que se encontra sustentado nas Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação. Este trabalho teve o intuito de entender se as discrepâncias sociais que existem na sociedade têm alguma influência no tipo de aprendizagem e aquisição de conhecimentos em ambientes E-Learning. Assim sendo e inserido na unidade curricular de Sistemas de E-Learning, do Mestrado em Assessoria em Comunicação Digital, do Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP) e em total colaboração com Ana Dinis, João Bernardo Barata e Maria Fonseca, realizamos um poster científico no qual abordamos o impacto de possíveis discrepâncias sociais em ambientes de aprendizagens E-Learning, mencionando os resultados de um inquérito realizado sobre o tema. O arsénio é um elemento naturalmente presente no meio ambiente e que também pode ser libertado em resultado de atividades antropogénicas, podendo encontrar-se na forma de compostos orgânicos ou inorgânicos. O arsénio é considerado pela Organização Mundial de Saúde como um dos dez químicos de maior preocupação para a saúde pública, uma vez que o arsénio e os compostos inorgânicos de arsénio estão classificados como cancerígenos pela Agência Internacional para a Investigação do Cancro. A exposição a arsénio inorgânico ocorre principalmente por via alimentar, através do consumo de água e de alimentos contaminados. Em Portugal são escassos os dados sobre a exposição a arsénio na população geral, pelo que o objetivo do presente estudo é a caracterização da exposição da população adulta portuguesa a arsénio, utilizando amostras de urina colhidas num estudo populacional nacional ( INSEF-ExpoQuim). O presente trabalho incluiu 171 participantes no estudo INSEF-ExpoQuim que forneceram uma amostra de urina para análise da concentração de arsénio total por espectrometria de massa com plasma indutivo acoplado ( ICP-MS ). Observou-se uma média geométrica de 47,1 μg As/L [ IC95%: 41,4-53,5 ] e 8,8% dos indivíduos apresentavam valores de arsénio considerados elevados. Não se observaram diferenças nos níveis de arsénio por sexo, grupo etário, grau de urbanização da área de residência, nível de escolaridade e situação face ao trabalho. Os resultados preliminares obtidos apontam para a necessidade de monitorização dos níveis de arsénio na população portuguesa. Arsenic is an element naturally present in the environment, but it can also be released as a result of anthropogenic activities. In the environment, arsenic can be found in the form of organic compounds and in the form of inorganic compounds. Arsenic is considered by the World Health Organization as one of the ten chemicals of greatest concern for public health, since arsenic and inorganic arsenic compounds are classified as carcinogenic by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Exposure to inorganic arsenic occurs mainly through food, through consumption of contaminated water and food. In Portugal, data on arsenic exposure in the general population are scarce, so the aim of the present study was to characterize the exposure of the Portuguese adult population to arsenic, using urine samples collected in a national population study ( INSEF-ExpoQuim). The present work included 171 participants in the INSEF-ExpoQuim study who provided a urine sample for analysis of total arsenic concentration by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). A geometric mean of 47.1 μg As/L [ 95% CI: 41.4-53.5 ] was observed and 8.8% of the individuals had arsenic levels considered high. No differences were observed in arsenic levels by sex, age group, degree of urbanization of the area of residence, educational level and employment situation. The obtained preliminary results point to the need to monitor the levels of arsenic in the Portuguese population. Open oceanic systems are affected by the contamination from microplastics (MPs; plastic particles ¡ 5 mm). These particles can resemble plankton in size and colour, and thus be ingested, directly or indirectly, by marine organisms. Few studies exist on the presence of this contaminant in oceanic epipelagic organisms, such as small planktivorous fish, and almost none focused on squid species. The present study investigated MPs abundance and characteristics in five ecologically and commercially important epi- and mesopelagic species from the North-East Atlantic collected off Madeira Island (Scomber colias, Trachurus picturatus, Stenoteuthis pteropus, Ommastrephes caroli, Loligo vulgaris). Visual analysis performed after digestion of the organic material found MPs in 98% of the fish (n=75) with an average content of 8.7 MPs per individual (stomach+intestine). In the three squid species analysed, MPs were found in 100% of the individuals (n=20), with an average content of 8.5 MPs per individual (stomach+gills+ink sac). Fibres were the main particle found, representing over 90% of the MPs in all the species. Differences in MPs content were found between species and between different body compartments. The present results indicate that squids are vulnerable to MPs ingestion as much as planktivorous fish, which have already been suggested as bioindicators for MPs monitoring in pelagic ecosystems. For squids, however, indirect ingestion of MPs through diet might be the primary mechanism of MPs intake. We suggest that trophic transfer of MPs occurs in these marine species. This study provides new knowledge into the level of contamination by MPs in poorly studied species (squids) inhabiting open oceanic waters, an environment still relatively unexplored.
