Previous studies have shown that adults exhibit the strongest attentional bias toward neutral infant faces when viewing faces with different expressions at different attentional processing stages due to different stimulus presentation times. However, it is not clear how the characteristics of the temporal processing associated with the strongest effect change over time. Thus, we combined a free-viewing task with eye-tracking technology to measure adults' attentional bias toward infant and adult faces with happy, neutral, and sad expressions of the same face. The results of the analysis of the total time course indicated that the strongest effect occurred during the strategic processing stage. However, the results of the analysis of the split time course revealed that sad infant faces first elicited adults' attentional bias at 0 to 500 ms, whereas the strongest effect of attentional bias toward neutral infant faces was observed at 1000 to 3000 ms, peaking at 1500 to 2000 ms. In addition, women and men had no differences in their responses to different expressions. In summary, this study provides further evidence that adults' attentional bias toward infant faces across stages of attention processing is modulated by expressions. Specifically, during automatic processing adults' attentional bias was directed toward sad infant faces, followed by a shift to the processing of neutral infant faces during strategic processing, which ultimately resulted in the strongest effect. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease with increasing incidence and geographic extent. The extent to which global climate change affects the incidence of SFTS disease remains obscure. We use an integrated multi-model, multi-scenario framework to assess the impact of global climate change on SFTS disease in China. The spatial distribution of habitat suitability for the tick Haemaphysalis longicornis was predicted by applying a boosted regression tree model under four alternative climate change scenarios (RCP2.6, RCP4.5, RCP6.0, and RCP8.5) for the periods 2030-2039, 2050-2059, and 2080-2089. We incorporate the SFTS cases in the mainland of China from 2010 to 2019 with environmental variables and the projected distribution of H. longicornis into a generalized additive model to explore the current and future spatiotemporal dynamics of SFTS. Our results demonstrate an expanded geographic distribution of H. longicornis toward Northern and Northwestern China, showing a more pronounced change under the RCP8.5 scenario. In contrast, the environmental suitability of H. longicornis is predicted to be reduced in Central and Eastern China. The SFTS incidence in three time periods (2030-2039, 2050-2059, and 2080-2089) is predicted to be increased as compared to the 2010s in the context of various RCPs. A heterogeneous trend across provinces, however, was observed, when an increased incidence in Liaoning and Shandong provinces, while decreased incidence in Henan province is predicted. Notably, we predict possible outbreaks in Xinjiang and Yunnan in the future, where only sporadic cases have been reported previously. Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of minimally invasive cardiac surgery coronary artery bypass grafting (MICS CABG) in the treatment of patients with multivessel coronary artery disease. Methods: A total of 147 patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease and coronary heart disease who underwent surgical treatment in Henan Provincial People's Hospital from March 2016 to March 2019 were retrospectively selected. Of which, 69 patients were treated by MICS CABG (minimally invasive group) and 78 patients were treated using the traditional thoracotomy (traditional group). The perioperative indexes, serum myocardial enzyme indexes and renal function indexes of patients before and after operation were compared between the two groups; Two groups of patients were followed up for 2 years; the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) was recorded, and survival analysis was performed. Results: The age of the patients in the minimally invasive group and the traditional group were (66.9±5.8) and (68.2±7.0) years old, respectively, and the proportions of males were 60.9% (42 cases) and 51.3% (40 cases) (all P >0.05). All patients in the two groups successfully completed the operation, and no patients in the minimally invasive group were converted to thoracotomy. Before surgery, there was no significant difference in serum cTnI, CK-MB, BUN, Scr, and creatinine clearance between the minimally invasive group and the traditional group (all P >0.05). After re-examination 48 hours after operation, the serum cTnI in the minimally invasive group was (3.109±0.664) μg/L, and the CK-MB was (18.03±3.27) U/L, which were lower than those in the traditional group (3.438±0.715) μg/L, (20.63±4.28) U/L; the difference was statistically significant (all P <0.05). During the 2-year follow-up, there was no statiscally significant difference in the incidence of recurrent myocardial infarction, postoperative atrial fibrillation, postoperative stroke, arrhythmia, heart failure, thrombosis, cardiac death, and MACE events between the minimally invasive group and the traditional group. Statistical significance (all P >0.05). The survival curve analysis showed that the cumulative rates of MACE events in the minimally invasive and traditional groups were 17.39% and 26.92%, respectively ( P =0.171). Conclusions: The effect of MICS CABG in the treatment of patients with multivessel coronary artery disease and coronary heart disease is not much different from that of traditional open thoracotomy, but the former is less traumatic, quicker after surgery, and has clinical significance for the recovery of patients' myocardial function.

Objective: To discuss the clinical value of preserving subvalvular structure in mitral and aortic valve replacement surgery and its effect on left ventricular contractility. Methods: A total of 97 patients who underwent mitral valve replacement surgery in the Adult Cardiac Surgery of Heart Center of Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Central China Fuwai Hospital from June 2016 to December 2018 were selected as the research subjects, of whom 45 cases were preserved subvalvular structure and 52 cases were in the total resection group (intraoperative total resection of the mitral valve and subvalvular chordae tendineae). General cardiac function indexes and left ventricular function quantitative indexes were compared before and in 3 months and 6 months after the operation of the two groups; The changes of the overall longitudinal strain of the long axis of the apex and the overall circumferential strain of the short axis of the left ventricle determined by the two-dimensional speckle tracking technology were compared before and after the operation. Results: The ages of the patients in the preservation group and the total resection group were (41.8±11.3) and (43.3±10.6) years old, respectively, and the male proportions were 58.0% (26 cases) and 44.0% (23 cases), respectively, with no significant difference (all P >0.05). The aortic occlusion time and cardiopulmonary bypass time of the patients in the preservation group were (57.8±4.5) and (78.6±6.7) min, respectively, which were longer than those in the total resection group [(48.1±4.4) and (48.1±4.4) min, respectively] (all P <0.05). The left atrial pressure of the patients in the preservation group at shutdown was (8.4±1.8) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), which was lower than that of the total resection group (11.3±2.5) mmHg ( P <0.001). There were interaction effects between groups and time in regards to the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter ( LVEDD ), left ventricular ejection fraction ( LVEF ) and Tei index, as well as the strain rate of mitral annulus and left ventricular wall of interventricular septum of the preservation group and the total resection group (all P <0.05). LVEDD and LVEF of patients in the preservation group at 3rd month after operation were (44.7±4.0) mm and (45.5±4.2) mm, and at 6th months were (56.5±4.9)% and (58.8±5.0)%, respectively, all larger than (42.7±3.6) mm and (42.7±3.6) mm, (54.5±4.6)% and (56.3±4.8)% of the total resection group. The measured value of LVESD in the preservation group at 3rd month after surgery was (32.6±3.2) mm, which was greater than that in the total resection group (31.2±3.4) mm ( P <0.05). The Tei index of patients in the preservation group at 3rd and 6th months after surgery were 1.0±0.2 and 0.8±0.2, respectively, which were lower than those in the total resection group 1.2±0.3 and 0.9±0.2 (all P <0.05). Conclusion: Preserving the subvalvular structure during mitral valve replacement surgery can better improve the patient's left ventricular function and left ventricular systolic capacity.

Cardiovascular safety assessment is vital for drug development, yet human cardiovascular cell models are lacking. In vitro mass-generated human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived cardiovascular cells are a suitable cell model for preclinical cardiovascular safety evaluations. In this study, we established a preclinical toxicology model using same-origin hPSC-differentiated cardiomyocytes (hPSC-CMs) and endothelial cells (hPSC-ECs). For validation of this cell model, alirocumab, a human antibody against proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9), was selected as an emerging safe lipid-lowering drug; atorvastatin, a common statin (the most effective type of lipid-lowering drug), was used as a drug with reported side effects at high concentrations, while doxorubicin was chosen as a positive cardiotoxic drug. The cytotoxicity of these drugs was assessed using CCK8, ATP, and lactate dehydrogenase release assays at 24, 48, and 72 h. The influences of these drugs on cardiomyocyte electrophysiology were detected using the patch-clamp technique, while their effects on endothelial function were determined by tube formation and Dil-acetylated low-density lipoprotein (Dil-Ac-LDL) uptake assays. We showed that alirocumab did not affect the cell viability or cardiomyocyte electrophysiology in agreement with the clinical results. Atorvastatin (5-50 μM) dose-dependently decreased cardiovascular cell viability over time, and at a high concentration (50 μM, ~100 times the normal peak serum concentration in clinic), it affected the action potentials of hPSC-CMs and damaged tube formation and Dil-Ac-LDL uptake of hPSC-ECs. The results demonstrate that the established same-origin hPSC-derived cardiovascular cell model can be used to evaluate lipid-lowering drug safety in cardiovascular cells and allow highly accurate preclinical assessment of potential drugs., (© 2021. Recent studies that used adult faces as the baseline have revealed that attentional bias toward infant faces is the strongest for neutral expressions than for happy and sad expressions. However, the time course of the strongest attentional bias toward infant neutral expressions is unclear. To clarify this time course, we combined a behavioral dot-probe task with electrophysiological event-related potentials (ERPs) to measure adults' responses to infant and adult faces with happy, neutral, and sad expressions derived from the same face. The results indicated that compared with the corresponding expressions in adult faces, attentional bias toward infant faces with various expressions resulted in different patterns during rapid and prolonged attention stages. In particular, first, neutral expressions in infant faces elicited greater behavioral attentional bias and P1 responses than happy and sad ones did. Second, sad expressions in infant faces elicited greater N170 responses than neutral and happy ones did; notably, sad expressions elicited greater N170 responses in the left hemisphere in women than in men. Third, late positive potential (LPP) responses were greater for infant faces than for adult faces under each expression condition. Thus, we propose a three-stage model of attentional allocation patterns that reveals the time course of attentional bias toward infant faces with various expressions. The effect of the babyface schema includes three typical responses, namely, the preference response, viewing motivation, and attention bias towards infant faces. It has been theorised that these responses are primarily influenced by infants' facial structures. However, recent studies have revealed the moderating role of facial expression, suggesting that the strongest effect of the babyface schema may be related to the neutral facial expression; this hypothesis remains to be tested. In this study, the moderating role of facial expression was assessed in three successive experiments (total N  = 402). We used a series of images of the same face with multiple expression-standardised images of infants and adults to control for facial structure. The results indicated that the effect sizes of the babyface schema (i.e., response differences between infants and adults) were different for multiple expressions of the same face. Specifically, the effect sizes of neutral faces were significantly greater than those of happy and sad faces according to the preference response (experiment 1, N  = 90), viewing motivation (experiment 2, N  = 214), and attentional bias (experiment 3, N  = 98). These results empirically confirm that neutral infant facial expressions elicit the strongest effect of the babyface schema under the condition of using adult faces as a comparison baseline and matching multiple expressions of the same face.

The fatty acid composition of chicken's meat is largely influenced by dietary lipids, which are often used as supplements to increase dietary caloric density. The underlying key metabolites and pathways influenced by dietary oils remain poorly known in chickens. The objective of this study was to explore the underlying metabolic mechanisms of how diets supplemented with mixed or a single oil with distinct fatty acid composition influence the fatty acid profile in breast muscle of Qingyuan chickens. Birds were fed a corn-soybean meal diet supplemented with either soybean oil (control, CON) or equal amounts of mixed edible oils (MEO; soybean oil : lard : fish oil : coconut oil = 1 : 1 : 0.5 : 0.5) from 1 to 120 days of age. Growth performance and fatty acid composition of muscle lipids were analysed. LC-MS was applied to investigate the effects of CON v. MEO diets on lipid-related metabolites in the muscle of chickens at day 120. Compared with the CON diet, chickens fed the MEO diet had a lower feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05), higher proportions of lauric acid (C12:0), myristic acid (C14:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1n-7), oleic acid (C18:1n-9), EPA (C20:5n-3) and DHA (C22:6n-3), and a lower linoleic acid (C18:2n-6) content in breast muscle (P < 0.05). Muscle metabolome profiling showed that the most differentially abundant metabolites are phospholipids, including phosphatidylcholines (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamines (PE), which enriched the glycerophospholipid metabolism (P < 0.05). These key differentially abundant metabolites - PC (14:0/20:4), PC (18:1/14:1), PC (18:0/14:1), PC (18:0/18:4), PC (20:0/18:4), PE (22:0/P-16:0), PE (24:0/20:5), PE (22:2/P-18:1), PE (24:0/18:4) - were closely associated with the contents of C12:0, C14:0, DHA and C18:2n-6 in muscle lipids (P < 0.05). The content of glutathione metabolite was higher with MEO than CON diet (P < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the diet supplemented with MEO reduced the feed conversion ratio, enriched the content of n-3 fatty acids and modified the related metabolites (including PC, PE and glutathione) in breast muscle of chickens.

The objective of this trial was to test the effects of oxidative stress induced by a high dosage of dietary iron on intestinal lesion and the microbiological compositions in caecum in Chinese Yellow broilers. A total of 450 1-day-old male chicks were randomly allotted into three groups. Supplemental iron (0, 700 and 1,400 mg/kg) was added to the basal diet resulting in three treatments containing 245, 908 and 1,651 mg/kg Fe (measured value) in diet respectively. Each treatment consisted of six replicate pens with 25 birds per pen. Jejunal enterocyte ultrastructure was observed by transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that a high dosage of dietary iron induced oxidative stress in broilers. Dilated endoplasmic reticulum (ER), autophagosome formation of jejunal enterocytes and decreased villi were caused by this oxidative stress. Compared to the control, concentration of the malondialdehyde (MDA) in jejunal mucosa in the 908 and 1,651 mg/kg Fe groups increased by 180% (p < .01) and 155% respectively (p < .01); activity of copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/ZnSOD) increased in jejunum (p < .01); and the concentration of plasma reduced glutathione (GSH) decreased by 34.9% (p < .01) in birds fed 1,651 mg/kg Fe. Gene expression of nuclear factor, erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (Nrf2) and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), in the higher dietary Fe groups was enhanced (p < .05). Species of microbial flora in caecum increased caused by oxidative stress. The PCR-DGGE (denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) dendrograms revealed different microbiota (65% similarity coefficient) between the control and iron-supplemented groups (p < .05). These data suggest high dosage of iron supplement in feed diet can induce oxidative stress in Chinese Yellow broilers, and composition of microbiota in the caecum changed. Aims: The antihypertensive mechanism (s) of the epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a major effective component in green tea, might associate with microRNAs (miRNAs). Here, we aimed to investigate which microRNA in aorta of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) were modulated by administration of EGCG and its mechanism., Main Methods: The pharmacokinetic behaviors of EGCG and epigallocatechin (EGC) in Sprague-Dawley rats were analyzed by HPLC and DRUG AND STATISTICS software. Blood pressure of SHRs was monitored by the tail-cuff method, the miRNomes of aorta from SHRs was analyzed with deep sequencing, and expression of hypertension-associated miRNAs with significant change and their host genes and target genes were validated by real-time PCR and Western blot., Key Findings: The plasma deposition of EGCG and EGC best fitted a mono-compartmental model with maximum plasma concentration post-dose (C max , 6.65 vs 4.45 μg/ml) and the corresponding time (T max , 15 vs 10 min). Systolic blood pressure (SBP) of SHRs decreased to the lowest point by 34.04 mmHg and recovered by 23.39 mmHg after 15 and 30 min of administration at dose of 300 mg/kg BW EGCG, respectively, and it decreased again at 60 min and recovered at time 2 h. Total 35 upregulated and 18 downregulated miRNAs were identified compared to the control group (p < .01) after EGCG administration. Expression of hypertension-associated miRNA-126a-3p and miRNA-150-5p were further validated. In turn, their host gene and target genes were up-regulated and down-regulated, respectively., Significance: Our results indicated that miRNA-150-5p might be involved in the antihypertensive effect of EGCG through SP1/AT1R pathway., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. The study assessed the effects of different dietary levels of corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) on performance, oxidation status, intestinal immunity and meat quality in Chinese Yellow broilers aged from 1 to 63 days. Lingnan male hatchings (1440) were randomly assigned to six treatments, each consisting of six replicates of 40 birds. The basal diet (I) was a typical corn-soya bean ration while the experimental diets (II to VI) partially substituted corn DDGS for soya bean meal. The level of substitution in starter, grower and finisher diets was as follows: II, 2%, 4% then 6%; III, 4%, 8% then 12%; IV, 6%, 12% then 18%; V, 8%, 16% then 24%; VI, 10%, 20% then 30%. Average daily feed intake and feed-to-gain ratio increased as linear responses to corn DDGS substitution from 1 to 21 days (p < 0.001). The plasma content of triglycerides and liver content of malondialdehyde increased as linear responses to corn DDGS substitution (p < 0.05). There was a linear decrease (p < 0.001) in jejunal abundance of IL-6 transcripts, with a substantial reduction to approximately 25% those of broilers fed the control diet, and a quadratic effect existed for secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) (p < 0.001). In addition, increased dietary corn DDGS caused favourable changes in selected functional properties of the meat: drip loss at 24 and 96 h increased as linear response to corn DDGS substitution (p < 0.001). Further, meat colour L* values decreased and a* values increased linearly in response to increasing corn DDGS (p < 0.05). In conclusion, diet IV (6%, 12% then 18% corn DDGS) in Chinese Yellow broiler diets had no negative effects on performance, antioxidant capacity and meat quality. The biodegradation characteristics of the azo disperse dye neocron black (NB) were investigated under aerobic, anaerobic and anaerobic/aerobic conditions separately with the activated sludge system, and the biological degradation process of the dye was analyzed by spectrophotometry and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that the degradation efficiency of NB dye was the highest under fully aerobic conditions, followed by the anaerobic/aerobic conditions, and fully anaerobic condition was the lowest. With the increase of the concentration of NB dye, the dye and the intermediate metabolite greatly decreased the microbial degradation efficiency of NB dye. The addition of carbon source could not only promote the biodegradation of NB dye, but also change the kinetic characteristics of the biodegradation process. The spectrophotometry and GC-MS determination results showed that the chromophore was completely degraded after biodegradation of NB dye. The intermediates metabolites of NB dye included 2,4-Dinitroaniline, 2-cyano-4-nitro aniline, p -Nitroaniline etc.

Background: Clostridium acetobutylicum can propagate on fibrous matrices and form biofilms that have improved butanol tolerance and a high fermentation rate and can be repeatedly used. Previously, a novel macroporous resin, KA-I, was synthesized in our laboratory and was demonstrated to be a good adsorbent with high selectivity and capacity for butanol recovery from a model solution. Based on these results, we aimed to develop a process integrating a biofilm reactor with simultaneous product recovery using the KA-I resin to maximize the production efficiency of biobutanol., Results: KA-I showed great affinity for butanol and butyrate and could selectively enhance acetoin production at the expense of acetone during the fermentation. The biofilm reactor exhibited high productivity with considerably low broth turbidity during repeated batch fermentations. By maintaining the butanol level above 6.5 g/L in the biofilm reactor, butyrate adsorption by the KA-I resin was effectively reduced. Co-adsorption of acetone by the resin improved the fermentation performance. By redox modulation with methyl viologen (MV), the butanol-acetone ratio and the total product yield increased. An equivalent solvent titer of 96.5 to 130.7 g/L was achieved with a productivity of 1.0 to 1.5 g · L-1 · h-1. The solvent concentration and productivity increased by 4 to 6-fold and 3 to 5-fold, respectively, compared to traditional batch fermentation using planktonic culture., Conclusions: Compared to the conventional process, the integrated process dramatically improved the productivity and reduced the energy consumption as well as water usage in biobutanol production. While genetic engineering focuses on strain improvement to enhance butanol production, process development can fully exploit the productivity of a strain and maximize the production efficiency.

To investigate the effect of curcumine on acute lung injury induced by oleic acid in rat and the possible mechanism of action. The rats were divided into 6 groups randomly: normal group, control group, curcumine groups (5, 10, 20 mg x kg(-1)) and dexamethasone group (1 mg x kg(-1)). During the experiment, acute lung injury was induced by oleic acid in rat. The changes of dynamic lung compliance were recorded by anrise 2005 pulmonary function test apparatus, light microscope was used to examine histological changes and lung index as well as wet to dry weight ratio was calculated by weighting method. Lung vascular permeability and protein level in BALF were detected by ultraviolet spectrophotometry, and the concentrations of TNF-alpha, IL-6 and IL-10 in BALF were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The result showed that the changes of pulmonary compliance were inhibited and pulmonary function was improved by curcumine. The OA-induced elevation of lung index was restrained, as well as wet to dry weight ratio, lung vascular permeability, protein level, TNF-alpha (250.4 +/- 21.6 vs. 172.53 +/- 14.88, 122.2 +/- 10.98, 108.69 +/- 3.39) ng x L(-1), IL-6 (763.6 +/- 88.33 vs. 207.41 +/- 15.55, 172.13 +/- 21.91, 142.92 +/- 4.32) ng x L(-1) in BALF in curcumine groups, IL-10 (98.90 +/- 2.99 vs. 208.44 +/- 16.30, 218.43 +/- 6.23, 252.70 +/- 20.58) ng x L(-1) in BALF was increased, respectively significantly. Light microscope findings shown that the impairment in curcumine groups was far less severe than that in model groups. Pretreatment of curcumine showed beneficial effect on acute lung injury induced by oleic acid in rats. The mediation of both proinflammatory factor and anti-inflammatory factor by curcumine may be involved in mechanism of action of curcumine effects.

The purpose of this study is to establish COPD animal model by intra-tracheal instillation of bleomycin (BLM) once and exposure to cigarette smoke for continuous 27 d, and to observe the effects of the inhalation on the model. At the 29th day, blood samples were taken from cervical artery for blood-gas analysis and parameters of lung function were recorded. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was collected to measure intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) concentration. The results showed that atomization inhaled resveratrol could alleviate rat COPD lung injury accompanied by amelioration of pathological changes, increase the ratio of forced expiratory volume in 0.3 s (FEV0.3) and forced vital capacity (FVC), and decrease the ICAM-1 level in BALF. The ultimate reduction of inflammatory factors was involved, at least in part, in the mechanism of resveratrol effects.

The permeability of aortic endothelial monolayers to fluid and albumin increased 13.5 and 16.1 times respectively after pretreatment with phospholipase A2 (PLA2, 100 U.ml-1) for 30 min. 1-(p-Chlorobenzoyl)-5-methylindole-3-acetic acid (1.16 mmol.L-1), SRI 63-441 (30 nmol.L-1), and 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (0.1 mumol.L-1) decreased PLA2-induced high permeability. PLA2 did not damage the endothelial cells significantly. Our results indicate that the action of PLA2 to increase the permeability of endothelial monolayers is mainly due to PLA2-induced lipid mediators released from endothelial cells.
