We present some lattice QCD results on first ($\chi_1^i$) and second ($\chi_2^i$) cumulants of and correlations ($\chi_{11}^{ij}$) among net baryon-number ($B$), strangeness ($S$) and electric charge ($Q$) along the pseudo-critical line ($T_{pc}(\mu_B)$) in the temperature ($T$)--baryon chemical potential ($\mu_B$) phase diagram of (2+1)-flavor QCD. We point out that violations of the isospin symmetric limit of vanishing electric charge chemical potential are small along the $T_{pc}(\mu_B)$ for the entire range of $\mu_B$ covered in the RHIC beam energy scan. For the strangeness neutral matter produced in heavy-ion collisions this leads to a close relation between $\chi_{11}^{BS}$ and $\chi_{11}^{QS}$. We compare lattice QCD results for $\chi_{11}^{BS}/\chi_2^S$ along the $T_{pc}(\mu_B)$ line with preliminary experimental measurements of $\chi_{11}^{BS}/\chi_2^S$ for collision energies $7.7~{\rm GeV}\le \sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}\le 62.4~{\rm GeV}$. While we find good agreements for $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}\ge 39$~GeV, differences are sizeable at smaller values of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$. Moreover, we compare lattice QCD results for the ratio of the strangeness ($\mu_S$) to baryon ($\mu_B$) chemical potentials, which define a strangeness neutral system with fixed electric charge to baryon number density, with experimental results obtained by the STAR collaboration for $\mu_S/\mu_B$ using strange baryon yields on the freeze-out line. Finally, we determine the baryon chemical potential at the freeze-out ($\mu_B^f$) by comparing $\chi_1^B/\chi_2^B$ along the $T_{pc}(\mu_B)$ with the experimentally measured net-proton cumulants $\chi_1^p/\chi_2^p$. We find that $\{\mu_B^f, T_{pc}(\mu_B^f) \}$ are consistent with the freeze-out parameters of the statistical-model fits to experimentally measured hadron yields for $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} \geq 11.5$ GeV., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

S-band deflectors are generally operated on pulsed mode for beam diagnosis. We plan to deploy 5 S-band (2997 MHz) deflectors to accurately measure the longitudinal time distribution of ultra-short electron beam pulses in Shenzhen Superconducting Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (S3FEL). A microwave system of one deflector consists of a low-level RF system (LLRF), a solid-state amplifier, waveguide couplers, and a klystron, operated in pulse mode with a maximum repetition frequency of 50 Hz. Its microwave amplitude and phase stability must be better than 0.06%/0.08{\deg} (RMS). This article will introduce the prototype design of the hardware, firmware, and software of the digital LLRF system. We use homemade Local Oscillators (LOs) and commercial cards based on the MicroTCA standard in hardware design. The firmware design will use a Non-IQ demodulation and a pulse feedforward algorithm to suppress noise from high voltage of klystron. The software design is based on the EPICS control system architecture, achieving slow control and interface display functions. We analyze the dependence of the chiral phase transition temperature on baryon number and strangeness chemical potentials by calculating the leading order curvature coefficients in the light and strange quark flavor basis as well as in the conserved charge ($B, S$) basis. Making use of scaling properties of the magnetic equation of state (MEoS) and including diagonal as well as off-diagonal contributions in the expansion of the energy-like scaling variable that enters the parametrization of the MEoS, allows to explore the variation of $T_c(\mu_B,\mu_S) = T_c ( 1 - (\kappa_2^B \hat{\mu}_B^2 + \kappa_2^S \hat{\mu}_S^2 + 2\kappa_{11}^{BS} \hat{\mu}_B \hat{\mu}_S))$ along different lines in the $(\mu_B,\mu_S)$ plane. On lattices with fixed cut-off in units of temperature, $aT=1/8$, we find $\kappa_2^B=0.015(1)$, $\kappa_2^S=0.0124(5)$ and $\kappa_{11}^{BS}=-0.0050(7)$. We show that the chemical potential dependence along the line of vanishing strangeness chemical potential is about 10\% larger than along the strangeness neutral line. The latter differs only by about $3\%$ from the curvature on a line of vanishing strange quark chemical potential, $\mu_s=0$. We also show that close to the chiral limit the strange quark mass contributes like an energy-like variable in scaling relations for pseudo-critical temperatures. The chiral phase transition temperature decreases with decreasing strange quark mass, $T_c(m_s)= T_c(m_s^{\rm phy}) (1 - 0.097(2) (m_s-m_s^{\rm phys})/m_s^{\rm phy}+{\cal O}((\Delta m_s)^2)$., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures, updated to published version

In this work, the spin pumping technique was employed to investigate the anomalous inverse spin Hall effect in BIG/NiO/Fe samples where BIG[(Bi,Tm)3(Fe,Ga)5O12] exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Our results reveal an intriguing phenomenon: when the magnetizations of both ferromagnetic layers align perpendicularly, a distinct spin-to-charge current conversion mechanism occurs. This conversion is intricately linked to the magnetization of the converting layer, spin polarization, and the spin current orientation., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

The primary accelerator of DCLS (Dalian Coherent Light Source) operates at a repetition rate of 20 Hz now, and the beam is divided at the end of the linear accelera-tor through Kicker to make two 10 Hz beamlines work simultaneously. For the simultaneous emission FEL of two beamlines, the beam energy of the two beamlines is required to be controlled independently, so we need to set the amplitude and phase of each beamline. This paper implements a microwave amplitude and phase setting function based on event timing. We upgraded the EVG/EVR event timing system and LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) system. Two special event codes and a repetition rate division of 10 Hz are added to the event timing system, and we can set the microwave amplitude and phase by judging the event code in LLRF. In FEL (Free-Electron Laser) accelerators, LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) systems usually deploy feedback or feedforward algorithms requiring precise microwave measurement. The slow drift of the clock allocation network of LLRF significantly impacts the measured microwave phase, thereby affecting the stability of the closed-loop operation. The reference tracking algorithm is used to eliminate the measurement drift. The conventional algorithm is to perform phase and amplitude demodulation on the synchronous reference signal from the main oscillator and subtract the reference phase in other measurement channels. The demodulation is usually based on the CORDIC, which requires approximately 16 clock cycles in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays). This paper uses the multiplication of complex numbers, which only requires four clock cycles of computational delay and achieves phase subtraction point by point. However, experiments show that it causes irrelevant amplitude noise to overlap and increase the amplitude measurement noise. DCLS (Dalian Coherent Light Source) is an FEL (Free-Electron Laser) user facility at EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet). The primary accelerator of DCLS operates at a repetition rate of 20 Hz, and the beam is divided at the end of the linear accelerator through Kicker to make two 10 Hz beamlines work simultaneously. In the past year, we have completed the upgrade of the DCLS LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) system, including setting the microwave amplitude and phase for two beamlines based on event timing, optimizing the microwave stability, and generating microwave excitation with the arbitrary shape of amplitude and phase. We added two special event codes and a repetition rate division of 10 Hz in the event timing system and set the microwave amplitude and phase by judging the event code in LLRF. The amplitude and phase stability of the microwave was improved with an intra-pulse feedforward algorithm. In addition, we have also generated microwave excitation with arbitrary amplitude and phase shapes to meet the dual beam operation in the future. In many experiments, the simultaneous emission of multiple wavelengths of FEL (Free-Electron Laser) is significant. For the pulsed-mode FEL facility, we must accelerate multiple electron beams in one microwave pulse, and they may be in different amplitudes and phases in the acceleration field. Therefore, we implement a microwave excitation, whose amplitude and phase have arbitrary shapes in the LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) system. We generate a microwave pulse with step-shaped amplitude and phase for dual beam operation in DCLS (Dalian Coherent Light Source). The microwave system of the primary accelerator has four pulsed LLRF devices, which output excitation to drive four solid-state amplifiers and then excite two 50 MW and two 80 MW klystrons, respectively. During the pulsed operation of the linear accelerator in DCLS (Dalian Coherent Light Source), we found a strong correlation between the klystron modulator's high voltage and the klystron output microwave, with noticeable jitter among adjacent microwaves. Therefore, we propose an intra-pulse feedforward algorithm and implement it in LLRF (Low-Level Radiofrequency) systems. This algorithm assumes that the transfer model of the microwave system is linear within a small range of work points and measures the transfer coefficient of the microwave between the LLRF and klystron. For each pulsed microwave of the klystron output, the LLRF system first calculates the vector deviation between the initial measurement within its pulse and the target. The deviation will be compensated in the LLRF excitation so that the jitter in the later part of the pulsed microwave is suppressed. Experiments have shown that this algorithm can effectively suppress the jitter among adjacent microwaves, e.g., improving the amplitude and phase stability (RMS) from 0.11%/0.2{\deg} to 0.1%/0.05{\deg}. The spin-to-charge conversion phenomena is investigated in a trilayer structure consisting of Co(12 nm)/Sb(t)/Py(12 nm), where the thickness t of the antimony layer is varied. Using the spin-pumping technique, a pure spin current is injected from both FM layers into the middle layer, the DC voltage is then measured. We observe a spin-to-charge mechanism in the Sb layer that exhibits striking similarities to the inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect (IREE), driven by surface states., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

With unparalleled rotational stability, millisecond pulsars (MSPs) serve as ideal laboratories for numerous astrophysical studies, many of which require precise knowledge of the distance and/or velocity of the MSP. Here, we present the astrometric results for 18 MSPs of the "MSPSR$\pi$" project focusing exclusively on astrometry of MSPs, which includes the re-analysis of 3 previously published sources. On top of a standardized data reduction protocol, more complex strategies (i.e., normal and inverse-referenced 1D interpolation) were employed where possible to further improve astrometric precision. We derived astrometric parameters using sterne, a new Bayesian astrometry inference package that allows the incorporation of prior information based on pulsar timing where applicable. We measured significant ($>3\,\sigma$) parallax-based distances for 15 MSPs, including $0.81\pm0.02\,$kpc for PSR J1518+4904 -- the most significant model-independent distance ever measured for a double neutron star system. For each MSP with a well-constrained distance, we estimated its transverse space velocity and radial acceleration. Among the estimated radial accelerations, the updated ones of PSR J1012+5307 and PSR J1738+0333 impose new constraints on dipole gravitational radiation and the time derivative of Newton's gravitational constant. Additionally, significant angular broadening was detected for PSR J1643-1224, which offers an independent check of the postulated association between the HII region Sh 2-27 and the main scattering screen of PSR J1643-1224. Finally, the upper limit of the death line of $\gamma$-ray-emitting pulsars is refined with the new radial acceleration of the hitherto least energetic $\gamma$-ray pulsar PSR J1730-2304., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, 10 tables, published in MNRAS

Weyl nodes can be classified into zero-dimensional (0D) Weyl points (WPs), 1D Weyl nodal lines (WNL) and 2D Weyl nodal surfaces (WNS), which possess finite Chern numbers. Up to date, the largest Chern number of WPs identified in Weyl semimetals is 4, which is thought to be a maximal value for linearly crossing points in solids. On the other hand, whether the Chern numbers of nonzero-dimensional linear crossing Weyl nodal objects have one upper limit is still an open question. In this work, combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with density functional theory calculations, we show that the chiral crystal AlPt hosts a cube-shaped charged Weyl nodal surface which is formed by the linear crossings of two singly-degenerate bands. Different to conventional Weyl nodes, the cube-shaped nodal surface in AlPt is enforced by nonsymmorphic chiral symmetries and time reversal symmetry rather than accidental band crossings, and it possesses a giant Chern number |C| = 26. Moreover, our results and analysis prove that there is no upper limit for the Chern numbers of such kind 2D Weyl nodal object., Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures

We point out that chiral condensates at nonzero temperature and magnetic fields are in strict connection to the space-time integral of corresponding two-point neutral meson correlation functions in the pseudoscalar channel via the Ward-Takahashi identity. Screening masses of neutral pseudoscalar mesons, which are defined as the exponential decay of the corresponding spatial correlation functions in the long distance, thus are intrinsically connected to (inverse) magnetic catalysis of chiral condensates. To study this we performed lattice simulations of $(2+1)$-flavor QCD on $32^3\times N_t$ lattices with pion mass $M_\pi\simeq 220$ MeV in a fixed scale approach having temperature $T\in[17, 281]$ MeV and magnetic field strength $eB\in[0, 2.5]$ GeV$^2$. We find that screening lengths, i.e. inverses of screening masses of $\pi^0$, $K^0$ and $\eta^0_{s\bar{s}}$, turn out to have the similar complex $eB$ and $T$ dependences of the corresponding chiral condensates. Although the transition temperature is found to always decrease as $eB$ grows, we show that the suppression due to magnetic fields becomes less significant for hadron screening length and chiral condensates with heavier quarks involved, and ceases to occur for $\eta^0_{s\bar{s}}$ and strange quark chiral condensate. The complex $eB$ and $T$ dependences of both screening masses and chiral condensates, reflecting the crossover nature of the QCD transition, are attributed to the competition between sea and valence quark effects. We study the inverse problem of reconstructing spectral functions from Euclidean correlation functions via machine learning. We propose a novel neural network, SVAE, which is based on the variational autoencoder (VAE) and can be naturally applied to the inverse problem. The prominent feature of the SVAE is that a Shannon-Jaynes entropy term having the ground truth values of spectral functions as prior information is included in the loss function to be minimized. We train the network with general spectral functions produced from a Gaussian mixture model. As a test, we use correlators generated from four different types of physically motivated spectral functions made of one resonance peak, a continuum term and perturbative spectral function obtained using non-relativistic QCD. From the mock data test we find that the SVAE in most cases is comparable to the maximum entropy method (MEM) in the quality of reconstructing spectral functions and even outperforms the MEM in the case where the spectral function has sharp peaks with insufficient number of data points in the correlator. By applying to temporal correlation functions of charmonium in the pseudoscalar channel obtained in the quenched lattice QCD at 0.75 $T_c$ on $128^3\times96$ lattices and $1.5$ $T_c$ on $128^3\times48$ lattices, we find that the resonance peak of $\eta_c$ extracted from both the SVAE and MEM has a substantial dependence on the number of points in the temporal direction ($N_\tau$) adopted in the lattice simulation and $N_\tau$ larger than 48 is needed to resolve the fate of $\eta_c$ at 1.5 $T_c$., Comment: 25 pages, 14 figures. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements have established the phenomenon of kink in band dispersion of high-$T_{\rm c}$ cuprate superconductors. However, systematic studies of the kink in electron-doped cuprates are still lacking experimentally. We performed $in$-$situ$ ARPES measurements on ${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_{4\pm\delta}$ (LCCO) thin films over a wide electron doping ($n$) range from 0.05 to 0.23. While the nodal kink is nearly invisible, an antinodal kink around 45 meV, surviving above 200 K, is observed for $n\sim0.05-0.19$, whose position is roughly independent of doping. The fact that the antinodal kink observed at high temperatures and in the highly overdoped region favors the phonon mechanism with contributions from the Cu-O bond-stretching mode and the out-of-plane oxygen buckling mode. Our results also suggest that the antinodal kink of LCCO is only weakly coupled to its superconductivity.

Upon femtosecond-laser stimulation, generally materials are expected to recover back to their thermal-equilibrium conditions, with only a few exceptions reported. Here we demonstrate that deviation from the thermal-equilibrium pathway can be induced in canonical 3D antiferromagnetically (AFM) ordered Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ by a single 100-fs-laser pulse, appearing as losing long-range magnetic correlation along one direction into a glassy condition. We further discover a `critical-threshold ordering' behavior for fluence above approximately 12 mJ/cm$^2$ which we show corresponds to the smallest thermodynamically stable $c$-axis correlation length needed to maintain long-range quasi-two-dimensional AFM order. We suggest that this behavior arises from the crystalline anisotropy of the magnetic-exchange parameters in Sr$_2$IrO$_4$, whose strengths are associated with distinctly different timescales. As a result, they play out very differently in the ultrafast recovery processes, compared with the thermal equilibrium evolution. Thus, our observations are expected to be relevant to a wide range of problems in the nonequilibrium behavior of low-dimensional magnets and other related ordering phenomena.

The PSR J2222-0137 binary system is a unique laboratory for testing gravity theories. To fully exploit its potential for the tests, we aim to improve the measurements of its physical parameters: spin, orbital orientation, and post-Keplerian parameters which quantify the observed relativistic effects. We present improved analysis of archival VLBI data, using a coordinate convention in full agreement with that used in timing. We also obtain much improved polarimetry with FAST. We provide an analysis of significantly extended timing data taken with Effelsberg, Nancay, Lovell and Green Bank telescopes. From VLBI analysis we obtain a new estimate of the position angle of ascending node, Omega=189(19) deg, and a new position of the pulsar with more conservative uncertainty. The FAST polarimetry and in particular the detection of an interpulse, yield much improved estimate for the spin geometry of the pulsar, in particular an inclination of the spin axis of 84 deg. From the timing we obtain a new 1% test of general relativity (GR) from the agreement of the Shapiro delay and the advance rate of periastron. Assuming GR in a self-consistent analysis of all effects, we obtain much improved mass: 1.831(10) M_sun for the pulsar and 1.319(4) M_sun for the companion; the total mass, 3.150(14) M_sun confirms it as the most massive double degenerate binary known in the Galaxy. This analysis also yields the orbital orientation: the orbital inclination is 85.27(4) deg, indicating a close alignment between the spin of the pulsar and the orbital angular momentum; Omega = 188(6) deg, matching our VLBI result. We also obtain precise value of the orbital period derivative, 0.251(8)e-12 s s^-1, consistent with the expected variation of Doppler factor plus the orbital decay caused by emission of gravitational wave (GW) predicted by GR. Constrained by the Nielsen-Ninomiya no-go theorem, in all so-far experimentally determined Weyl semimetals (WSMs) the Weyl points (WPs) always appear in pairs in the momentum space with no exception. As a consequence, Fermi arcs occur on surfaces which connect the projections of the WPs with opposite chiral charges. However, this situation can be circumvented in the case of unpaired WP, without relevant surface Fermi arc connecting its surface projection, appearing singularly, while its Berry curvature field is absorbed by nontrivial charged nodal walls. Here, combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with density functional theory calculations, we show experimentally that a singular Weyl point emerges in PtGa at the center of the Brillouin zone (BZ), which is surrounded by closed Weyl nodal walls located at the BZ boundaries and there is no Fermi arc connecting its surface projection. Our results reveal that nontrivial band crossings of different dimensionalities can emerge concomitantly in condensed matter, while their coexistence ensures the net topological charge of different dimensional topological objects to be zero. Our observation extends the applicable range of the original Nielsen-Ninomiya no-go theorem which was derived from zero dimensional paired WPs with opposite chirality., Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures

We performed systematic angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements $in$-$situ$ on $T'$-${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x\rm {CuO}_{4\pm\delta}$ (LCCO) thin films over the extended doping range prepared by the refined ozone/vacuum annealing method. Electron doping level ($n$), estimated from the measured Fermi surface volume, varies from 0.05 to 0.23, which covers the whole superconducting dome. We observed an absence of the insulating behavior around $n \sim$ 0.05 and the Fermi surface reconstruction shifted to $n \sim$ 0.11 in LCCO compared to that of other electron-doped cuprates at around 0.15, suggesting that antiferromagnetism is strongly suppressed in this material. The possible explanation may lie in the enhanced -$t'$ /$t$ in LCCO for the largest $\rm{La^{3+}}$ ionic radius among all the Lanthanide elements.

We present results on the second-order fluctuations of and correlations among net baryon number, electric charge and strangeness in (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD in the presence of a background magnetic field. Simulations are performed using the tree-level improved gauge action and the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action with a fixed scale approach ($a\simeq$ 0.117 fm). The light quark mass is set to be 1/10 of the physical strange quark mass and the corresponding pion mass is about 220 MeV at vanishing magnetic field. Simulations are performed on $32^3\times N_\tau$ lattices with 9 values of $N_\tau$ varying from 96 to 6 corresponding to temperatures ranging from zero up to 281 MeV. The magnetic field strength $eB$ is simulated with 15 different values up to $\sim$2.5 GeV$^2$ at each nonzero temperature. We find that quadratic fluctuations and correlations do not show any singular behavior at zero temperature in the current window of $eB$ while they develop peaked structures at nonzero temperatures as $eB$ grows. By comparing the electric charge-related fluctuations and correlations with hadron resonance gas model calculations and ideal gas limits we find that the changes in degrees of freedom start at lower temperatures in stronger magnetic fields. As a foundation of condensed matter physics, the normal states of most metals are successfully described by Landau Fermi liquid theory with quasi-particles and their Fermi surfaces (FSs). The FSs sometimes become deformed or gapped at low temperatures owing to quasi-particle interactions, known as FS instabilities. A notable example of a FS deformation that breaks only the rotation symmetry, namely Pomeranchuk instability, is the d-wave FS distortion, which is also proposed as one possible origin of electron nematicity in iron-based superconductors. However, no clear evidence has been made for its existence, mostly owing to the mixture of multiple orders. Here we report an unequivocally observation of the Pomeranchuk nematic order in floating monolayer (ML) FeSe on 1 ML-FeSe/SrTiO3 substrate. By using angle-resolve photoemission spectroscopy, we find remarkably that the dxz and dyz bands are degenerate at the Brillouin zone center (Gamma point), while their splitting is even larger at zone corner (M point), in stark contrast to that in bulk FeSe. Our detailed analysis show that the momentum-dependent nematic order in floating monolayer FeSe is coming from the d-wave Pomeranchuk instability at M point, shedding light on the origin of the ubiquitous nematicity in iron-based superconductors. Our results establish the single-layer high-Tc superconductors as an excellent material platform for investigating emergent quantum physics under complex intertwinement., Comment: 18 pages

We combine transport, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy to investigate several low energy manifestations of the Hund coupling in a canonical FeSC family Li(Fe,Co)As. We determine the doping dependence of the coherent-incoherent crossover temperature and the quasi-particle effective mass enhancement in the normal state. Our tunneling spectroscopy result in the superconducting state supports the idea that superconductivity emerging from Hund's metal state displays a universal maximal superconducting gap vs transition temperature (2$\Delta_{max}/k_{B}T_{c}$) value, which is independent of doping level and $T_{c}$.

High-temperature iron-based superconductivity develops in a structure with unusual lattice-orbital geometry, based on a planar layer of Fe atoms with 3d orbitals and tetrahedrally coordinated by anions. Here we elucidate the electronic role of anions in the iron-based superconductors utilizing state-of-the-art scanning tunneling microscopy. By measuring the local electronic structure, we find that As anion in Ba0.4K0.6Fe2As2 has a striking impact on the electron pairing. The superconducting electronic feature can be switched off/on by removing/restoring As atoms on Fe layer at the atomic scale. Our analysis shows that this remarkable atomic switch effect is related to the geometrical cooperation between anion mediated hopping and unconventional pairing interaction. Our results uncover that the local Fe-anion coupling is fundamental for the pairing interaction of iron-based superconductivity, and promise the potential of bottom-up engineering of electron pairing.

In this proceedings we discuss the natural connection between the reduction of neutral pion mass in the vacuum, and the magnetic catalysis as well as the reduction of transition temperature in the external magnetic field. We introduce novel relations between the derivatives [$\partial^{n}\rho(\lambda, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$] of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum [$\rho(\lambda, m_{l})$] with respect to the light sea quark mass ($m_{l}$) and the $(n+1)$-point correlations among the eigenvalues ($\lambda$) of the massless Dirac operator. Using these relations we present lattice QCD results for $\partial^{n}\rho(\lambda, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$ ($n=1, 2, 3$) for $m_{l}$ corresponding to pion masses $m_\pi=160-55$ MeV, and at a temperature of about 1.6 times the chiral phase transition temperature. Calculations were carried out using (2+1) flavors of highly improved staggered quarks with the physical value of strange quark mass, three lattice spacings $a=0.12, 0.08, 0.06$ fm, and lattices having aspect ratios $4-9$. We find that $\rho(\lambda\to0, m_{l})$ develops a peaked structure. This peaked structure arises due to non-Poisson correlations within the infrared part of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum, becomes sharper as $a\to0$, and its amplitude is proportional to $m_{l}^2$. We demonstrate that this $\rho(\lambda\to0,m_l)$ is responsible for the manifestations of axial anomaly in two-point correlation functions of light scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. After continuum and chiral extrapolations we find that axial anomaly remains manifested in two-point correlation functions of scalar and pseudoscalar mesons in the chiral limit., Comment: 17 pages, 18 figures, minor updates to match the published version in PRL

XTE J1810-197 (J1810) was the first magnetar identified to emit radio pulses, and has been extensively studied during a radio-bright phase in 2003$-$2008. It is estimated to be relatively nearby compared to other Galactic magnetars, and provides a useful prototype for the physics of high magnetic fields, magnetar velocities, and the plausible connection to extragalactic fast radio bursts. Upon the re-brightening of the magnetar at radio wavelengths in late 2018, we resumed an astrometric campaign on J1810 with the Very Long Baseline Array, and sampled 14 new positions of J1810 over 1.3 years. The phase calibration for the new observations was performed with two phase calibrators that are quasi-colinear on the sky with J1810, enabling substantial improvement of the resultant astrometric precision. Combining our new observations with two archival observations from 2006, we have refined the proper motion and reference position of the magnetar and have measured its annual geometric parallax, the first such measurement for a magnetar. The parallax of $0.40\pm0.05\,$mas corresponds to a most probable distance $2.5^{+0.4}_{-0.3}\,$kpc for J1810. Our new astrometric results confirm an unremarkable transverse peculiar velocity of $\approx200\,\mathrm{km~s^{-1}}$ for J1810, which is only at the average level among the pulsar population. The magnetar proper motion vector points back to the central region of a supernova remnant (SNR) at a compatible distance at $\approx70\,$kyr ago, but a direct association is disfavored by the estimated SNR age of ~3 kyr., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present lattice QCD results for masses and magnetic polarizabilities of light and strange pseudoscalar mesons, chiral condensates, decay constants of neutral pion, and neutral kaon in the presence of background magnetic fields with $eB$ ranging up to around 3.35 GeV$^2$ ($\sim70~M_\pi^2$) in the vacuum. The computations were carried out in (2+1)-flavor QCD mostly on $32^3 \times 96$ lattices using the highly improved staggered quark action with $M_{\pi} \approx $ 220 MeV at zero temperature. We find that the masses of neutral pseudoscalar mesons monotonously decrease as the magnetic field strength grows and then saturate at a nonzero value, while there exists a nonmonotonous behavior of charged pion and kaon masses in the magnetic field. We observe a $qB$ scaling of the up and down quark flavor components of neutral pion mass, neutral pion decay constant as well as the quark chiral condensates at 0.05 $\lesssim eB\lesssim$ 3.35 GeV$^2$. We show that the correction to the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation involving the neutral pion is less than 6% and the correction for the relation involving neutral kaon is less than 30% at $eB\lesssim$ 3.35 GeV$^2$. We also derive the Ward-Takahashi identities for QCD in the magnetic field in the continuum formulation including the relation between integrated neutral pseudoscalar meson correlators and chiral condensates., Comment: 30 pages, 18 figures, updated to the published version in PRD

Laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and its particle-driven counterpart, plasma wakefield acceleration (PWFA), are commonly treated as separate, though related branches of high-gradient plasma-based acceleration. However, novel proposed schemes are increasingly residing at the interface of both concepts where the understanding of their interplay becomes crucial. Here, we report on experiments covering a wide range of parameters by using nanocoulomb-class quasi-monoenergetic electron beams from LWFA with a 100-TW-class laser. Based on a controlled electron injection, these beams reach record-level performance in terms of laser-to-beam energy transfer efficiency (up to 10%), spectral charge density (regularly exceeding 10 pC/MeV) and divergence (1 mrad full width at half maximum divergence). The impact of charge fluctuations on the energy spectra of electron bunches is assessed for different laser parameters, including a few-cycle laser, followed by a presentation of results on beam loading in LWFA with two electron bunches. This scenario is particularly promising to provide high-quality electron beams by using one of the bunches to either tailor the laser wakefield via beam loading or to drive its own, beam-dominated wakefield. We present experimental evidence for the latter, showing a varying acceleration of a low-energy witness beam with respect to the charge of a high-energy drive beam in a spatially separate gas target. With the increasing availability of petawatt-class lasers the access to this new regime of laser-plasma wakefield acceleration will be further facilitated, thus providing new paths towards low-emittance beam generation for future plasma-based colliders or light sources.

We report angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first-principles numerical calculations for the band structure evolution of the 3d heavy-fermion compound CaCu3Ru4O12. Below 200 K, we observed an emergent hybridization gap between the Cu 3d electron-like band and the Ru 4d hole-like band and the resulting flat band features near the Fermi energy centered around the Brillouin zone corner. Our results confirm the non-Kondo nature of CaCu3Ru4O12, in which the Cu 3dxy electrons are less correlated and not in the Kondo limit. Comparison between theory and experiment also suggests that other mechanism such as nonlocal interactions or spin fluctuations beyond the local dynamical mean-field theory may be needed in order to give a quantitative explanation of the peculiar properties in this material.
